Gigity gigity !

No word if hologram will be there. Lol

Interesting

All Hail King Zappa...

Superb idea. Who is the Zappa band ?

Very Interesting....

^ I was unable to fit the complete post. WTF?

Who is the Zappa band ?

Whoever chipped in to cover the check to Gail.

Well, Gail's dead, so, no.

Sh*t.  Forgot.

Force of habitsmiley

Dweezil just played the theatre in my building last Thursday.  Even though I get in for free, I skipped it.   We needed a new broom and some light bulbs for the store, so I went to Home Depot and went cruising for burgers instead.  I'm a little burned out on repertory acts.  I think Frank would understand.

Yes!!! They're #1 on my must see list for 2020... Now we need the Nick Mason dates who I unfortunately missed last year, they're #2 as far as willingness to travel and spend the money for better seats.

This will be pretty sick, love to go, but wtf. Announce a tour with no dates, no locations. Bold strategy.

Dave, I think you made a mistake.  I saw the Hot Rats tour last September and it was fantastic. It was so good that i believe I will be going again.

Very unusual for Crimson to have an opening act, especially because of the 3 drum kits at the front of the stage. I don't think they've had an opening act in the states for decades. Hopefully no hollow-gram, that would sink it for me.

Quite possibly the single greatest night of music in my life was KC with a warm-up band, early 2000's - John Paul Jones right after releasing Thunderthief. JPJ played like 15 different stringed instruments. Everything from a ukulele to a chapman stick. Crimson was Crimson, brilliant.  Pretty fucking awe inspiring incredible nite of notes.

This tour sounds like no slouch either.

The Zappa band is probably what the Zappa estate is trying to replace Dweezil with. The whole thing was over revenue Dweezil pulled out I’m sure they went to plan B

I’m with Dave. Blew off free dweezil a mile down the road last week because I just don’t know why. It felt stale I guess.

But this black napkins kills:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bvczPfJ3VIQ

Very much looking forward to this!  I saw the "Frank Zappa Band' at the Whiskey last year and they tore it up... all of these fuckers can still rip, and unlike Stu, JK, or the other fake Jerrys in JGB (as an example), Frank actually hired these guys to play in his band with the one exception being Joe Travers (and I prefer younger, more energetic drummer generally anyway).

"the band is comprised of former ZAPPA bandmates for this monumental series of shows.  The touring unit boasts guitarists Ray White and Mike Keneally, bassist Scott Thunes, multi-instrumentalist Robert Martin, percussionist Ed Mann, and drummer and ZAPPA archivist Joe “Vaultmeister” Travers."

Also stoked to see the Dweezils Thursday.  They always brings it, and unlike Herbaldave's beloved Stones (is there a more repertory act in the history of rock and roll?), Dweezil actually plays mostly different songs every tour.  I never imagined I would get to see so much of the Zappa catalog played live, and until the setlists become stale, I'll be there if I can.

GTTS!

> I never imagined I would get to see so much of the Zappa catalog played live<

Little Umbrellas

It must be a Camel

Rollo

Cletus Alretus Alrightus

I never imagined that I would see these performed live, but I have.

>>>is there a more repertory act in the history of rock and roll?

Cough, cough, Dark Star Orchestra.

At least the Stones wrote most of their songs, especially the warhorses they keep playing over and over again.  Does Dweezil even try to write his own music anymore?

Dweezil puts on a great show and has some super talented musicians that Frank would like, I really do not see how he makes any money though touring with it .

I have enjoyed all 8 Dweezil shows I have seen!

Hot Rats front row next month may escalate experience.

^ guaranteed my friend. Top notch band playing unparalleled compositions.

Just Added: KC playing the Ottawa Blues Festival on July 11th. No Zappa Band for this appearance.

Belew and harrison on the same bill... but don’t get yer hopes up

IWT Thursday. Tough decision to skip DNB, but already had the Dweezil ticket. Saw Hall and Angela there. What a fantastic show. Hot Rats and lotsa other great songs I'm the Slime, Zomby Woof, broken hearts are for assholes etc.

the band was a bunch of insane multi-instrumentalists!

We snuck into Wolf Trap many times years ago. Was just a 2 post fence for keeping people out 40 years ago. They would sell Dom Perignon champagne at the concession..Saw B.B King, Bobby Blue Bland and Big Momma Thornton from the empty 2nd row seats we took over. She looked at me and smiled in her wheelchair. GD tickets went on sale the next morning for the Capitol Centre 81. My only Ray Charles show was probably the same year. It burned down years later and I guess was a totally new enviroment.

KING CRIMSON'S 2020 SUMMER TOUR OF USA & CANADA

King Crimson have now announced their tour schedule for this year (with one possible festival still outstanding).  All the dates, except festivals, will be double bills with the Zappa Band.

“The Summer tour will be a throwback one for us in a few ways; great to be going back to outdoor venues, some of them the ‘sheds’ we played in the 1980’s. And we’ll be travelling by tour bus, old school! As for what pieces we’ll play, that hasn’t been decided yet, but will likely be a wide selection from the 50 years of Crimson repertoire. With 7 players on stage we can cover it all.” - Tony Levin

The Royal Package costs $365 and is strictly limited to 72 seats. These have sold out very quickly in the past, so we advise those who are interested not to hesitate! The majority will go live at 6pm ET tonight. A few venues, such as Ravinia, have yet to finalise seats and will follow once confirmed.

God damn they are really making it hard to do the Florida leg of this tour. It's like a circle around the state. Maybe I can do St auggy and Orlando

A+ work noodler

Any pre-sales?   New Brunswick, NJ available "to the general public" Friday at 10am.  I'm signed up for DGM mails, but never get a pre-sale invite.

No home town show for me... ROAD TRIP! Looking at probably the Ohio show, possibly the Lewiston, NY show.

As far as the "one possible festival still outstanding" I would assume it would be July 3rd as the only opening on the schedule. I did a quick search online and saw that Summerfest in Milwaukee and the Peach Fest in Scranton are probably the 2 options they could fit in logistically. Maybe if that falls thru they will add a date in the Pittsburgh/Erie/Cleveland area?? One can only hope...

Ras I'll take you up on that beer.
Hope to get good seats. Good luck to all

Lets see how it looks Sig,  tix go onsale in an hour.  The Governor just limited all public gatherings in Ct to 250. Fuck it, if they're still onsale I'm buying em. By concert time the virus may have passed. This tour is worth any damm virus. I wana go like Col Bruce anyway, worshipping at the alter of live music.

I went royal package for Buffalo as I didn’t like seating options at onsale time. Plus they were pretty clear about refund in case of cancellation due to our new living conditions

I got Row D Section 102 (Center) for the Ohio show. Holding off on other shows for the time being until things settle down.

^ real good deal-o, real good deal-o

I opted for the cheap seats in New Haven,  $50 bleachers.

With the present day situation I see little trouble ending up in much better seats.

The prices were reasonable... $73.00 was the most expensive seat for the OH show, other than the Royal Package of course.

DEDHED, I bought tickets in the center pit row J for the Ohio show.

Row E in New Brunswick NJ

Glad you people got in!

Hey Deadly, maybe we can meetup this time since we didn't get a chance to at the Cleveland show last year! The pit was sold out when I went in for tix so I think I'm behind you even though I'm Row D.

I was in a freakin conference call when tix went on sale But was able to pull front row in Frippville hahaaa! Hope it's not too close , should work out. Ras lets smoke a fatty Corona-bone before the shoe.

DEDHED, let's plan on it!

Wow! Devastated.

KING CRIMSON 2020 TOUR POSTPONED FOR A YEAR

King Crimson have taken the difficult, but inevitable decision to postpone this summer’s tour of North America for a year. Although it is possible that some venues in the US and Canada may open again in time for shows this June and July, there seems little possibility that the threat from Coronavirus will have completely faded – and we have no desire to risk the health of the band, the crew or the audience. No-one should have to decide between a concert and a threat to their health.

We have been in discussion with the various concert promoters, all of whom remain very keen to host King Crimson shows, and it is our intention wherever possible to play exactly the same dates with the Zappa Band on very similar dates in 2021. The rescheduled dates will be confirmed over the coming weeks.

This should leave fans with the option of either ticket refunds, or attending the rescheduled concerts next year.

In the coming week, we will also be contacting all those who have bought Royal Packages directly from DGMLive so that they can make the same decision.

In the meantime, we wish everyone the very best of health, and hope to see you next year.

To return the tickets or not...

^ why bother, too much hassle, it'll be 2021 fore ya know it. I'm holding on

I’m hanging on to mine, they are paid for and I can’t really see them being cheaper next year

I'm hanging on to my 2nd rows in Fripptown too than. Maybe they'll let Belew in by 2021.

Holding on, too

2021 Tour update
https://www.dgmlive.com/news/2021-tour-update

Can Toyah and Robert open the show?
thnx for the update

email update for royal package holders last month:

"We know that many who have bought tickets, or hope to buy tickets, for King Crimson shows this year eagerly await positive news. It would be wonderful to announce definite plans to give us all something to which to look forward. Sadly that is not yet possible. We continue to work around the significant issues created by the pandemic, not least the considerable uncertainty about when large scale concerts will be safe to resume.

King Crimson are currently keeping options for two touring schedules in the USA this summer, followed by Japan in the winter.

The first period in the USA, with concerts in the Southern States, probably starting in Florida and ending in California, would be mid-July to early August. The second period, largely on the East Coast and Canada, would be late August to mid-September.

Those are the only touring periods available to the band in the USA, so we wait to see exactly which shows it will be possible to play.

Much will depend on the success of the vaccine programmes on both sides of the Atlantic. We will announce dates as soon as we have them.

For those with Royal Package or other tickets, we do still hope to play the vast majority of the cities from the original tour schedule.

All being well, we expect to close the year by playing Japan and possibly Australia in November and December.

In the meantime, we hope that everyone keeps safe."

Got my refund in my spam fuckin folder, Fuck!

Can Toyah and Robert open the show?<<<

I'm with Jazfish on the opening act. Maybe Toyah and Robert with a drop in solo by the Zappa hologram?  I'm in for the NJ show if it happens

       Her Royal Highness

Toyah_2_CREDIT_Dean_Stockings_1613421849_crop_550x824.png

We know that many of you are eagerly awaiting confirmation of the dates for the US tour this year. So are we! The final dates are still subject to travel arrangements which still remain annoyingly fluid.

We now expect to announce the tour on the 7th June - with performances in late July, August and September. For those who have retained their place in the Royal Package, it now looks most likely that we will be able to play the following cities :

Clearwater FL,
Boca Raton FL,
Orlando FL,
St Augustine FL,
Atlanta GA,
Fort Worth TX,
Austin TX,
Denver CO,
San Diego CA,
San Francisco CA,
Los Angeles,
Phoenix AZ,
Northampton MA,
Lewiston NY,
Rochester Hills MI,
Highland Park IL,
Milwaukee WI,
Cleveland OH,
Huber Heights OH,
New Haven CT,
Holmdel/Red Bank NJ,
Philadelphia PA,
New York City,
Boston MA,
Baltimore MD

This does mean that we are now unlikely to visit some States and cities which we had previously planned. In particular, it sadly seems that we are now unlikely to play :

Memphis,
New Orleans,
Cary,
Portsmouth,
Glen Falls,
Louisville,
Vienna

Anyone with Royal Package tickets for those shows should please get in touch with [email protected] for a refund. Alternatively, if you do wish to travel further afield to one of the other shows, we have made arrangements for those needing to switch.

For those with tickets to New Brunswick, the proposed shows in Holmdel/Red Bank will hopefully not be too far away. But similarly, please get in touch if you need a refund.

The current list contains no Canadian dates as the border restrictions remain unclear. We do have Canadian options, but do not know if we will be able to play them. Those with tickets for the shows in Canada are welcome to retain their tickets, in the hope that matters improve, or may also wish to apply for refunds:

Orillia,
Ottawa,
Quebec,
Montreal.

We appreciate the support of all those who have retained their tickets throughout the pandemic. We look forward to meeting you all and finally playing some music!

No mention of the Zappa Band, I wonder if that is still happening... I still have my tix for Huber Heights, might as well do Cleveland and make it a real road trip!

The Ravinia website lists them and The Zappa Band on August 29.

America! Fuck Yeah!
Thank you for the good news

Keep us posted if ya hear anything else

Huber Heights gets all the shows.

No mention of any dates on Dweezil's website

Zappa Band is Not Deeezles

Still nothing on the New Haven Westville site on either KC or Zappa band. Anxiously awaiting

>Zappa Band is Not Deeezles<

Oh, yeah, the hologram band, i forgot about them.

>>>> The Ravinia website lists them and The Zappa Band on August 29.

This is good news for me, because that means the OH dates should be happening the first week of September. I already have a vacation planned for July, plus dog sitting for my brother while he is on vacation, and a wedding and other things going in July> early August. I was getting worried I might get screwed on the new dates.

I wonder where the venue will be for the Cleveland show, as it wasn't on the original tour. The MGM Northfield Casino in 2019 was Ok but a little sterile for a concert venue IMO. It would be cool if it was Jacobs Pavilion, I've never caught a show there, although 5K capacity may be a bit too large for KC.

I have Royal package already for Lewiston artpark and now a canandaigua show the night before.  That works better for me then glens falls anyway! Perfect. Although admittedly the double bill likely means shorter sets...but hey, it's a tour!

Same night as DNC Hartford

l

Said Fripp of the impending shows, “The Crimson Beast Of Terror has woken from its enforced slumbering and is venturing out to stomp flat the psyches of innocents not yet experienced in the hammering onslaught of King Crimson’s uncompromising pounding – bish! bish! bish! – before turning on a beat to jellify hearts with gut-wrenching passion and soul-squeezing epic unfoldings to remind us that we are all mere subjects in the unfolding drama of the universe’s unfathomable mysteries while simultaneously rocking out and having a great time bopping about with Tony and Bobby and Gavin and Jakko and Mel and Pat and Jezza too.”

DEDHED, we will be at the Cleveland and Huber Heights shows as well.

Hope to see you there and there!

For sure Deadly!
FWIW there is a hotel right next to the Rose Music Center, the price wasn't bad and I thought it would be nice to not have to drive after the show and just walk across the lot to the room. Super stoked!

Hey DEDHED,

We live in Columbus, so plans are to drive to Cleveland and back home after the show.

Doing the same after Huber Heights. Looking forward to more shows with friends!

>>>>spend the money for better seats.

KC & Saucerful were some of the best meat in the seat shows for me back in the last decade, so yes.

It's a good plan these guys don't come around that often

It's a good plan these guys don't come around that often

Fripp > Mayer

Plus this:

A number of issues arising from the launch of the tour :

Firstly, I understand that the Fox Theater in Atlanta has described this as King Crimson’s “Farewell Tour”. We have never described this as a “farewell tour” and will be telling them to change their wording. Indeed, given the way that so many bands have played multiple farewell tours, I very much doubt King Crimson will ever announce a “farewell tour”. That said, the band currently have absolutely no plans for more touring beyond the end of this year. Covid permitting, we hope to be in Japan in the winter, but after that there are no more future plans. It is advisable never to say “never” – but it is unlikely that this band will ever return to North America. Certainly, I cannot imagine these brave souls ever getting on a sleeper bus again and caravanning from city to city. The Fox Theater in Atlanta may well therefore be correct that we will never play there again – but that does not make this a “Farewell Tour”. In fact, this is a “Hello Again!” tour – “Glad Times are Here!”

Secondly, many fans who have bought general tickets from Ticketmaster or AXS have been approaching us for a refund or exchange. We can only process Royal Package tickets purchased directly from us. For all other tickets, you please need to contact the seller, not us, as we will be unable to help you – and we will be swamped!

Royal Package tickets are still available for most shows. Those keen to get Royal Package tickets for those currently “sold out” (currently NYC and LA), do not despair, please watch your email, or keep checking the site, as more places will gradually be released once we have re-homed those who bought packages from cancelled shows. Even as I type, I have just been informed that six more places at LA are now available…

General tickets for most shows will go on sale on Friday 11thJune.

not on the isle anymore but I'm in Fripptown

8th row for Cleveland!

In the Fripp zone.

I contemplated Royal Package for Cleveland, but bailed out. I ended up pulling Row G so I'm happy!

Tonight's Northampton show moved inside to Springfield Symphony Hall

Guess I'm not getting a $20 ticket

lots of prime seats now available for Philly.  day after labor day a tough sell and the amount of available tickets shows it

still picked up an aisle seat 5 rows or so back. looking forward to it

also note - if you haven't noticed, it is pretty easy to exchange tickets for better tickets with Ticketmaster.  go into your order details and do the "contact us" from within the order details and click on subject to exchange tickets. you get an automated email with instructions on how to exchange - basically buy a new ticket same or higher price and email them the new order#.   doesnt apply to platinum/resale/vip, etc

And with the Artpark show in Buffalo, my nearly weeklong journey with the band comes to an end…. Albany>Spac>cmac>Buffalo. One family/friends show, one Royal Package and a couple other great seats...it was a great run

If you are at all on the fence, don’t let the shorter sets scare you off the shows are as remarkable as always. And the Zappa band is a very worthy addition to the bill

I hope this isn’t the end of the road for this lineup but if it is, I look forward to what’s around the bend

Smallest crowd I've ever seen at that venue.  The lawn was pretty much empty.  The spendy seats were pretty full (Easy upgrades, according to the copious signage).  More young-ish folks than I expected.  Some familiar-looking faces from GD-world.  And nerds a-plentycheeky

All done exquisitely, rippin, perfect. So glad I got to hear these songs live again,, God is good. Boogied my ass off,, good thing cuz now it's transcendental music. Can't dance to that shit.

i grabbed a set list at one of last week's shows

Very little to say about Crimson's set except OMG + HOLY WTF.  Just WOW from start to finish. Musical precision, what a band. The 3 drummer approach works magic. Fripp is a genius sitting in the rear like a church mouse conducting the tempo changes with just a touch of his guitar strings. Pure perfection. Them Zappa boys also brought their A game. Whoever made it to these shows was rewarded with some of heavens best offerings ever. At times KC sounded like FZ's best, Mahavishnu's best, and Miles's best bands all jumbled together. Just incredible.

Devil Dogs of Tessellation Row.

Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Part One.

Pictures of a City.

Epitaph.

One More Red Nightmare.

Tony's Cadenza.

The Court of the Crimson King.

Radical Action II.

Level 5.

Islands.

Red.

Indiscipline.

Starless.

Encore - 21st Century Schizoid Man

Was gonna purchase at the venue, but the $20 tix were all gone by the time I got there, so walking to the gate I asked the 1st bunch of folks I saw if they had an extra, and sure enough 1 guy said yep.  So the show only cost me the $10 beer I bought the guy. Never went to a seat, too wet from the rain, so I cought the groove standing under the overhang all nite. The only thing I don't like about Westville is its all concrete, somewhat hard on the ol back.

Happy Labor Day

This tour also included the Seahag

Sigmund you started this thread, sounded psyched in your posts, but no review or comments on it,, WTF. Did you even make it or were you at dead n co ?

Three more Crimson dates between now and Saturday. If you haven’t seen them, now is the time.

Hell Yeah Raz I was there. Missed a couple of the Zappa songs but was front row the rest of the night. Way better than the Dead n Slo woulda been in Hartford. KC tore it up, Mel was loving it. So good to finally see em again. Wish I coulda turned some of my friends on but they all flocked to DnC

Was trying to see em more than once this year, that fell through. I'd love to go to the Beacon but between my Bday and Camp Creek this wknd it would put  too much wear n tear on me.

Raz Next Westville show you go to lmk, I'll bring an extra fatty!

Peace Sign from Pat looking right at you, so fuckin awesome.

It was quite the hot nite,, starting right off with that Devil Dogs 3 headed hydra drum monster. As it approached 2 minutes still perfectly in time, my jaw was on the floor. At 3 minutes I was just laughing hysterically. Max Roach, Louie Bellson, Buddy Rich + Billy Cobham would have all been proud. Best / Tightest I've ever heard the band. More rockin than I expected too, had a nice stompin bop groove going in few tunes.  Yeah, next time.

I did drag my wife's and my best friends. As we were walking in my buddy says "I have NO idea what I'm in for". He loved it from zero previous knowledge. Hope this wasn't their last hu-rah  in the old USA

Beacon on 9/9 is going to be top shelf.

Any pregame spots near The Anthem tomoro?

Gonna be a beautiful day for day drinking.

Hope everyone who wanted to see the Crim did so somewhere, because they gone.

I need em back soon !

Well, you’ve got six dates in Japan between Nov 27 and Dec 5.

Maybe next year something in Europe, or South America, but not certain. We’ve seen the last of them in the US.

Any zoners in attendance ?  Sounds like a lot of fun was had.

^Great set list

A friend of mine is in that band but I couldn't make the show.

I watched a couple of video clips and they sounded good.

The Ed Palermo Big Band is back , playing at The Falcon in Marlboro NY on Sat. Oct. 2nd.

This show wil be the music of Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart.

He's been playing with a smaller band called Ed's Chemistry Set, but this is his first full band show in a about a year and a half.

First saw his band years ago at The Bottom Line in NYC, this band is over the top. Nappy Brock has played with him a number of times.

Nice Jerry I will keep my eye out for this it sounds interesting

Thanks

^ dammm so sweet I totally forgot what I was about to do. Can you remind me ?

Oh wait never mind,  here comes my dog with the leash in his mouth.

I saw a commercial for a KC documentary.

Robert comes off a bit pissy.

I'll spin my McDonald and Giles LP in memory

Here's the first track with Steve Winwood on piano & organ

That's a great album

<< a bit pissy

Dammm Brit Royalty

Them Sunday things he does seem so out of character for the intensity and precision of his music. Will the real Robert Fripp please stand up.

The rehersals to produce KC music must be the equivalent of navy seals training. 2nd only to how hard Zappa worked his musicians.  No wonder that last tour worked so well. Looking forward to seeing this --

For those who missed Saturday Night's WFDU ~ Morning Dew, including Interviews with Bassist extraordinaire Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel/ King Crimson / John Lennon), as well as Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth , Here’s the 24/7 Archival Podcast player:

Thanks, Tony is one of the greatest people in rock history. Just to give my daughter the time of day after a show and be moved by her enough to post her drawing on his social media pages is something I'll never forget. John Wettons wife, Lisa even sent her a message afterward

New Zappa Music Release In October

I love how this thread periodically bubbles back up to the top... they are also releasing this in theaters, only one theater in the USA listed but more are supposed to be added.

I missed Ade's recent stop here on his Elevator Tour, and he has an upcoming "Celebrating David Bowie" tour coming up which sounds interesting.

https://adrianbelew.net/tour/

I decided to pass on the upcoming local Robert Fripp appearance on his speaking tour, I couldn't justify $100 tickets without the man playing his guitar.

And T. Lev is wrapping up his Levin Brothers tour, and launching a short Stick Men tour. They never seem to come close enough for me to catch them, I think the last time I caught Stick Men was 2011.
