To just lose another championship? Guy is done. I like Lebron as a player and have enjoyed watching his career but his championship aspirations are going to sizzle out quickly. I think next year is prob the only real chance for him to get another ring, but how do the lakers plan on getting past the warriors? It's silly and full of holes of course, but this is sports so rational, real world thinking isn't required.

And LeBron would never have even considered going to the Warriors, because he would never have been willing to make the sacrifices and take on the personal challenges that Durant was willing to make.

Personally I think this is a great if obvious move (didn't pretty much everybody know for the past two years that this is what was going to happen?) and it makes the NBA more interesting, and kudos to the Warriors for making the NBA work overtime to try to overcome the Dubs greatness.

Dynastic teams always make a league/players better in any sport, as it pushes them farther than they thought they needed to or could go.

Fuck mediocrity. Fuck parity. Greatness should always be the ultimate goal, and the Warriors are pushing every (or some) teams to try to figure out how to be greater than they thought they'd ever have to or could be.

The Warriors and Durant have made the NBA better, and virtually everyone who isn't personally butt-hurt or a brickhead sports radio caller type agrees with that.

This will certainly make the west even more interesting and competitive now, but most people are saying that it will take two years for the Lakers to aqumulate the talent needed to get on top of the western conference; will LeBron hold up/keep passing those tests for two more years?

It seems obvious that in the NBA passing those tests is easy, so he will also probably hold up.

It will be fun to watch it unfold.

I think the Rockets have this year only to win unless they make some trades.   CP is already broken.   Ariza is more of a loss than most people think.   That home court advantage is going to be crucial for them again.

And it's no six-pack for the Warriors to sign Cousins.

They'll pay him under $6 million, but that will put them around $15 million into the luxury tax, so it will cost the Dubs over $20 million for maybe half a season (he won't be recovered until way into the season) and even then there is no way to know if he'll be any good at that point or will fit into what they do.

Either way it's a super expensive half-season rental, because if he's good he'll get a huge contract from somebody after next year that the Warriors won't be able to match, and if he sucks they won't want him anyway. But if he does recover and can play the way he can play late next season/playoff time, he will help them a LOT.

Just another sign of the Warriors ownership being willing to do whatever it takes, including very expensive question marks, to win. Sure they have the dough, but not all those super rich guys are willing to spend it (which is why they're so rich in the first place).

The Warriors also just re-signed Loony to another one year contract today, so before Cousins is ready to play they'll have Loony and the other two quality young guys to play center, which is what their plan was before Cousins came calling, so they're well-set whether Cousins ends up helping or not. Now they just need to get somebody who can come off the bench and score and they'll be ready to go.

Ultimately it's Anthony Davis they have their sights on long-term for center, but the Warriors are always planning for both short-term and long-term. That's how they got Durant, and that's why they'll likely keep winning.

Winning championships? Who can ever say for sure about that, but they're going to keep winning lots of games for a while, probably a long while.

The players LOVE playing for that organization, which takes great care of them generally and includes them on decisions like the Cousins deal. Unless somehow we can trade for Leonard which doesn’t seem likely, I just don’t think we can beat them in a seven games series with them having homecourt. Lakers/ Warriors would be a fun to watch but it just seem a like they need more than what they have to win a 7 game series against them on their homefloor. Long season obviously, will be exciting to watch some pan out. Next year should be fun. Hopefully, Brown learned a little from his coaching mistakes in playoffs last year. Sixers will be fun to watch.

The lakers seem to be acting logical, not paying boogie with the achilles risk and not over paying for Kawhi when he's a free agent next year. Word on Lonzo is his dad planted the ankle story so he wouldn't get traded, totally believable coming from the ball camp..

lakers are the HUGE winners in free agency.  It's not every year the best player in the world opts out to join your team.  All other noise aside, huge win. Lakers back in the playoffs and back to some level of relevancy. 

Now they won't beat the W's or Rockets but no reason they can't compete with any other team in the West with Lebron. 

As far as Rondo, KCP, McGee and Stevenson go... makes sense to me.  Veteran players to help out one of the youngest squads in the NBA.  Most importantly (and obviously), all one year deals.  They all fall off in advance of next year's FA class (noted above).  Good call not to mortgage the team for Kawhi.  If it's meant to be, it'll happen in 2019.  

Now if we could flip Ball and picks for Lillard....

I mean, Lebron will be turning 34 during the start of the season. Do people really think he is going to build a long lasting contender in LA?. Seems more like this is his retirement package. Lakers just paid 150 mil for a geezer in Basketball terms. I guess Shaq won the title with the heat when he was 33 or 34 but it was behind d wade. If they can’t get Lillard or Kawhi then they are a four/five seed at best going into playoffs next year in the west. With Lillard maybe a three seed. With Kawhi, prob one or two seed. In my opinion they need both Lillard and Kawhi to win a title. Lebron is too old. Everyone saw his ass saying he was tired playing the Celtics. All that mileage from going to the finals every year just to get his monkey ass whooped by the warriors and spurs is gonna catch up with him a lot sooner or later. Next year is his last shot. He needs much better players than what they currently have to have any sort of chance whatsoever. It just seems like Kevin Durant will win the MVP next year and take over the league as the best player in the world. If you whoop the best players ass in the finals two years in a row and clock two finals mvps, don’t you get that right?

Indeed.   Kawhi ordeal is such an odd mess.   If he and Pop can't get along, what makes anyone think he'll be easy to work with on another team.   

At some point, the Spurs are fucked if Kawhi only will go to the lakers.  They will have to cash in for whatever they can get.   Spurs should trade him now, come February I'd have to think the return goes down unless some team thinks a four month rental is worth selling off their future.   Seems fruitless against that Dubs team especially with Cousins.  Even if OCusins is 50% he's that much better that Zaza or McGee.

Disagree.   On paper, it's a better team, but this one is more interesting.    Rando nailed it, good mix of young talent, with some respectable older talent to guide them plus the xfactor of Lebron.  This whole thing is a science experiment and I imagine will change minimally twice before the first seasons end.

Nope, but do I think he'll have a contender in 2-3 years.   Yep.   Lebron is arguably in the top two of best players ever.....arguably I said.    

I don't think Kawhi gets them to a one seed.   They still can't match the dubs chemistry and fire power.   But in a year when the Dubs have to make some decisions and the Lakers are finding more pieces then there will be some interesting shifting come next summer.

I still don’t get the argument that lebron is top two player ever. I mean you have to be judged upon winning championships to some degree. He will prob have all the stats but he will also have played four or five more seasons than those those players. Jordon won 6 in 12 seasons. Kobe won 5, and two without Shaq. Magic and Hakeem also just better track record. 3-6 in the finals can’t get you a number one spot as greatest of all time. Just doesn’t make any sense

Gotta think Melo to Houston kills their hope at winning a Championship.   If the guy was unhappy coming off the bench and playing reduced minutes, is he going to be happy playing for D'Antonio again and doing the same as he was in OKC?     Yet, somehow I feel like there is no other choice for him and his career.  He surely wants a championship and that's the best bet besides jumping on the dubs bandwagon is Houston.   He is claiming to be the most willing, flexible, selfless player.   Not sure the basketball world agrees.
