A gross injustice, partially mitigated, but not corrected.
From the story -
Former U.S. Attorney James Reynolds, who prosecuted Peltier decades ago, has since said it was a mistake, that there was never evidence to convict Peltier and has been personally urging Biden to grant him clemency.
“I write today from a position rare for a former prosecutor: to beseech you to commute the sentence of a man who I helped put behind bars,” Reynolds wrote to Biden in 2021.
“With time, and the benefit of hindsight, I have realized that the prosecution and continued incarceration of Mr. Peltier was and is unjust,” he said. “We were not able to prove that Mr. Peltier personally committed any offense on the Pine Ridge Reservation.”
im pretty shocked and exited to hear that trump pardoned ross ulbricht yesterday. i hadnt heard that he'd promised to pardon him in order to gain libertarian votes, i dont really follow the trump campaign that closely so i had no idea. sounds like the pardon was almost just a stright up quid pro quo, fulfilling a promise he made to get votes from the libertarian party. i would have never thought that trump or any other republican would pardon someone with such heavily publicized large scale drug crimes.

I'm really pissed some in the media are comparing Leonard's clemency from Biden to Felon 47's actions with regard to the J6 terrorists.
Not even close. The trial was a sham. The j6 people are on video. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/joe-biden-leonard-peltier-clemency_n_6760...

officially; he'll enroll in IHS and get care through this. Maybe one step above what he got in prison
really; he'll get whatever care he needs because he is a hero of his nation
this is someone whose name is spoken (by Lakota) in the same breath as men like Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull
