Life - huh ?

Forums:

OK, 5/5 i took our 17 year old beagle i inherited from my mother when she died  in '22 and had to put her down..sad AF and a huge full circle moment for me.

In '76 or '77 when i was 10 or 11 years old, my mother took me to put down her girl, the first dog she had after graduation before she married my dad. I was there for her first dog and her last dog.

Then we get the call that Grandma is in the hospital the Hospice word is bandied about. So off we go to see grandma. We treated her to hours of company Friday and Saturday and my wife and daughter did her nails and her hair and made her feel better about Mothers Day and she rallied and is home as of yesterday!

So, we get home and the two remaining dogs are as excited as ever to see us once again and we feed them after they calm down, the spinning and the toys and the jumping from room to room following us...that was around 9:15 PM...an hour later my 6.5 year old comes down the hallway dragging herself on 3 legs with her paw knuckling under.

She has acute onset hip dysplasia and its killing me to see her suddenly incapacitated. Prior to this, we walked a minimum of an hour a day, usually 90n mins 5 days a week...we average 4 miles a day..

We have seen 2 vets , our main one in person, and a tele vet visit and they both recommend an FOH surgery, which both claimed was 90% effective these days. Its gonna be a slog this summer rehabbing her but i there was no way in hell i was putting down another dog this close to Dolly....OH YEAH, all this went down in the exact same room 1 week to the day.

it seems my hypocrisy knows no bounds as i previously wasn't understanding why people would try and save a pet for thousands ( thanks tax refund this year i guess ) but this isnt a cancer situation or something like that though none the less, its a change in my thinking...

life hits you sometimes.  very sorry to hear about grandma and the pups.  the sun will rise tomorrow

Good man Mike

big big love to you, friend

I don't think it's hypocrisy when you change your thinking. It sounds to me like you listened to your heart, and the world needs more of that.
