Live Dead and Brothers

Forums:

If these guys come your way, check them out. That is one great band. Last night Karan and Kimock unleashed fury during New Speedway and didn't let up from there. Karan shreds on lead, but it's amazing how he picked up all those Bobby rhythm licks in the Ratdog years. He nails the unique style. And Kimock...that guy...Pretty nice to see them in a 300 person club 2 miles from home.

Last night's setlist:

Thanks for the review.

We will be seeing them in Harrisburg in a couple days.

They have a fairly extensive tour across the US (eventually headed West) with this version of the band.

Sounds like a fun show

& Nice to see MK getting some love on the zone lately

Karan sounded great, vocals and guitar. He's looking more and more like Marky Ramone.

Yes Karan really impressed me the last couple times I saw him with this band

I'm not finding any recordings from last night, but this one from the show on Saturday is pretty sweet.

they are playing the local supper club. i went last night for jorma and was reminded how much the supper club and it's policies drive me crazy. kimmock never comes around here though....

I didn't realize berry oakley jr is also in this lineup

cool

Dead & Bros. > Dead & Co. ?

Bandmember told me tonight's show (Friday) is gonna be a barn-burner.

Also that the streams now have a soundboard feed for improved audio for the couch potatoes.

"Live Dead and Brothers   42:17   We’ve pulled the board feed & going old style so you can hear a major breakout coming shortly."

Oh well, I bailed and don't know what that ^ was, and tried again 2nd set and still technical difficulties....

I've been home with the flu so I've had time to check out more of this tour.

This band is pretty amazing.

I asked a player why they don't do the festival circuit and he said they prefer people to really give them a listen and the festival scheduling around the multi-artist staging is a real hassle.

Wishing you a swift recovery, Alan.

i love this. its always a bummer for me when a bands show in my area ends up being a festival appearance - its just more $ and time for a shorter set, bookended by bands i usually dont care about. sucks to hear rippin' shows like this touring around other parts of the country, but when they get to me ive got to go to some festival. there have been some times where thats happened and i enjoyed the festival overall, but still, i appreciate the dedication to playing longer, standalone shows.

I was thinking a "late night" festival show with dance space, a headful of one thing or another, and a coed-crowd of tired but happy people. (Ahhhhh, to be young again.)  But I can see how a dinner theater "back to the hotel by midnight" event would be appealing to these guys.

These later-in-the-tour shows sound magnificent with decent earbuds, by the way,

Thanks Judit -- there's some kind of upper respiratory non-covid thing going around. (That's what I get for being in airports and at crappy Sam Grisman Band shows.)

Benway - they wil be in Arcata and Mill Valley, I think in June, after a NW tour.

Look how big this Mr Carlie guest singer is....this is not an optical illusion... I think it was a St Charles, Ill show...he did a pretty good job actually...

i went last night. honestly i was pretty underwhelmed.

my local band does a better truckin' and the freestone peaches are better on the allman side.

kept waiting for kimmock...did a good other one...but meh.

he was playing jerry's travis bean. there is some dude that lives down here that now is at, basically EVERY dead type show and brings the travis bean...i mean it's cool but do we have to have it at every show??

Caught the show last night at a new venue, the Hidden Hut in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood last night.  It's the same building as the old Brower's tap room, and has been reconfigured with a bigger stage at one end and soundboard at the other.

it's Solstice weekend in Fremont, which is a big deal for the neighborhood.  I walked past a couple of large house parties with bands playing as I walked to the venue.  The festive atmosphere must have put the band at ease, as they played loose and energetic, with lots of big grins.  They're all talented players.  Kimock and Karan were expertly weaving, and the bass, keys, and drums were all right there too.  Big boy reprising the Pigpen vocals was also solid.

I'm still bummed they canceled the shows in Texas and Arkansas late last summer.  I think it was ticket sales.

This is a long tour.

>>>asked a player why they don't do the festival circuit and he said they prefer people to really give them a listen and the festival scheduling around the multi-artist staging is a real hassle<<<

It's all about the art.

Or maybe they're just not getting booked at the festivals, which often pay more and reach a bigger audience.

Nah, it's all about the art.

>>>the travis bean...i mean it's cool but do we have to have it at every show<<<

Instruments are made to be played, and the better the instrument the more it should be played.

Definitely better than sitting in it's case or behind glass in some museum.

Terrific show last night at Humbrews, my favorite venue in Humboldt mainly because of their Meyer Sound setup, the welcoming vibe, great selection of beers on tap, and the kind ownership.

The show started out kinda low-energy but by mid-set the boys were cruisin' and the jams were coalescing. Initially Kimock sat down much of the time while playing (one of my pet peeves), but in the second set he was usually a stand-up guy and the band played with renewed energy and creativity. Mark Karan was surprisingly good on both guitar and vocals. Berry Oakley Jr. impressed me with his bass playing but his vocals on the Allmans tunes were just OK. Pete Lavezzoli and Goobs were solid as usual. The "big guy" belted out a couple Pigpen tunes in fine fashion. Kimock played at least 4 different guitars during the course of the evening, including the Wolf Replica ("Wolf 2.0 #4") that was gifted to him by Grateful Guitars last October. Overall it was a great night of music with a mostly non-chatty crowd that included quite a number of folks who had been following the band during much of their June west-coast tour. They close out their tour with a pair of shows tonight and tomorrow at the Sweetwater... both of those are live-streaming on Nugs.
