Headed to NYC nex week, staying in Brooklyn near Park Slope/Prospect Park

Looking for fun things to see, places to eat

Want to try a restaurant called Olmsted...its booked for the month, but heard you can try for bar eats...Anyone been?

Friends also recommend Ghenet Ethiopian and Bogota Colombian places~ both nearby. Any other awesome spots?

What is the flea market like?

Will be seeing TAB at the Cap on Friday/Saturday nights, staying at the Doral Arrowood both nights...Can anyone recommend good places to eat and places to visit of interest during the days? Will have a small dog with me!

Any Zoner's going to the Cap shows?

Any tips helpful~

Thanks,

Ro.

JKlowan or LLollo~ what is name of the breakfast place you went to from Philton?

Any good shows in the city the night of the 13th?

Jorma is playing a solo show to benefit autism at The Space in Westbury, NY on April, 13.

It's 45 minutes from NYC out in Nassau County (Long Island).

Really poor planing on my part, seems like I will be missing this show.

Check out a show at Carnegie Hall -

Have fun at stay in NY & at your shows.

Thank you!

looking for a show in Brooklyn or Manhattan... or may just chill and hop around:)

I really like PS 1 in Long Island City.

The James Turrell sky viewing oculus fantastic, especially around sunset.

Sounds nice right were you are staying.

Don't smoke weed on the streets of NYC

Have tea at Tea and Sympathy in the village.

108 Greenwich Street.

Taking notes to google these places later today, thanks!

will bring a vape pen to be stealth!!

No one going to the Cap shows?!

Roshambo!

Here are some links that might be helpful:

Port Chester dining
Kneaded Bread > http://www.kneadedbread.com/ (the place that JKLowan took me to)

Mario Batali's places
Tarry Lodge> http://portchester.tarrylodge.com/ (for excellent brunch  or  dinner)

Tarry Market> http://tarrymarket.com/ (more casual cafe + expensive market w/ great mixers!)

These are the touristy places I've been to nearby, but I checked and most of them do not allow dogs! All of them are great for an outdoor walk and history lesson.

Kykuit > http://www.hudsonvalley.org/historic-sites/kykuit  (Rockefeller estate -- amazing art, buy tour tickets online in advance. Worth the trouble.)

NY Botanical Garden > http://www.nybg.org/home/ (In Queens (I think) ....very easy to take train there, walk across the Fordham Univ. campus to the garden entrance)

Stone Barns Center > http://www.stonebarnscenter.org/visit/index.html LOVE this place. The barns are amazing, excellent coffee shop on the patio...you can go there and walk around w/o a tour. If you call, they might let a dog in, looks like... they just don't allow dogs in the growing and pasture areas.

Thanks, babe!

I remember Zoner's saying Tarry Market was great! Hoping that Willy T shows up with some good brews for us!

Heady Topper is really tasty!

you know I would go to RRocks with you in a heartbeat if not for this trip - JRAD with you under the starssmiley

don't think I can take that much time off- maybe...

Uptown mentioned there is a sculpture garden near SUNY College near the Doral Arrowood Hotel, too

that sounds cool and dog friendly, if weather permits.

One of the reasons I'm trying to weasel my way into Olmstead is the chef worked at Blue Hill Stone Barns, Per Se and Alinea...sounds awesome and AFFORDABLE!!!

will look into a tour there.

Hey Ro,

Yes will have the Heady Topper as well as their new one Focal Banger! to try.... and some other tasties!

Doral is great, I think PepsiCo closed the sculpture gardens to the public recently eergh!

SUNY Purchase is next door check out the Nueberger Museum on campus.

Great expressionist works and African Art.. Good contemporary shows too.

Awesome!!! Never heard of Focal Banger?! Weird name. Can't wait!

PS 1 sounds good, didn't realize SF had 2 permanent pieces, must check out

I still need to head to SF City Hall for the Summer of Love exhibit...

will check on the sculpture garden, why close to the public?

Ha, just called PepsiCo. They reopened the sculpture gardens after years, just last weekend to the public

open weekends only 10-3:30. Great timing!

Hi again,

Here's a list of sculpture gardens along the Hudson River.... look at the one called Storm King -- it's not far from Port Chester.  This garden features the work of Andy Goldsworthy, one of my faves because he uses elements from nature to create his work.   https://theculturetrip.com/north-america/usa/new-york/articles/new-york-s-10-best-sculpture-parks-art-amid-nature/

The best part is that dogs are likely allowed!

Did I really read a glimmer of hope about RR? I haven't bought anything yet, but will be prepared to as soon as you know for certain! :)

Morning!

i like Andy Goldworthy!

I really doubt I can go, just think it will be one of the best upcoming shows at RR...I should have planned ahead:(

<<<PS 1 sounds good, didn't realize SF had 2 permanent pieces, must check out

The de Young has a great piece outside in the sculpture garden.

Had it all to myself for about an hour when I came out for the '73/'74 TXR shows.

I haven't seen his other one in SF.

We are planning a trip out to the southwest next summer to visit Roden Crater....the Holy Grail.

That said, I hope you make it!!! Aren't you going out for another show there?

Honestly, we have been wondering how David Nelson is doing- have heard nothing...Need DNB to back on its feet!!!

Anyone hear any updates on his health?

Cool, 73!

you motivated me to watch a bunch of youtubes on his various works last night- he seems like such a cool, mellow guy!!

I am a fan!

ps- got my Dicks Phish fields in lottery last night!

game on!!

<<<ps- got my Dicks Phish fields in lottery last night!

well done.

everyone I know got shut out.

not to worry. it usually works out.

Def looking forward to a healthy Nelson.

Hope he is on the mend.

Okay... still looking for someone to meet up with at RR- JRAD then..

Good on Pepsi for opening the gardens!  Doral is right there!

Hey you can see a nice Andy Goldsworthy Cairn across the street at Suny Purchase too.

Oh and there are three great beer bars in Tarrytown about 15 minutes away...

Ro - i wish i could make that TAB show and extend the east/west groove we shared in November but im having a little medical procedure next week that might keep me slowed down for a few days.....i have your #, if im able to get around, i'll text you and hopefully we'll see ya' on this side of the world...

Peace

Darn, wish you could make it! Sending good vibes on the medical thing... hope it's a breeze:)

I will be back in August!!

TGIF

cant wait for next Friday!!!

This sounds pretty intense.

In such a deadened room, a body bursts with life, spilling it out through every sense. I felt enraptured and paralyzed, as if I were a disembodied mind seared in the void, listening to a recording of silence played at top volume.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/07/arts/design/guggenheim-museum-doug-wh...

I Saw a Michael Ray/ Medeski/ Ribot et al Superjam in New Orleans once called "Crescendo" that did exactly that to me.

Hey Ro - Scottoccs and I will be at the TAB shows both nights. We have a suite at the Hyatt House so will be in good form for a good times Easter weekend - We would certainly enjoy getting together for a few beverages or whatever!

Hey spac! How the hell are ya?

Its a long shot, but i may end up trying to get one of those nights off from work, if i do, ill get in touch....lemme know if you hear of any extra tix, but, im sure i can find a cpl...and, if i dont go, hpfly ill catch ya at MSG in summer, i seem to recall you saying you d be in for a bunch of nights

Hey Jambone - Hope you can make it to TAB - I ended up doing stubhub for one of the nights and had the other one through scott.  I'm good to go for the full Baker's Dozen Run too so will have to plan to get together in the city.

Ha, thats what i thought i remembered reading, just wasnt sure...dude, you should "journal" that experience...13 phishies in 13 nights? Wow...id start megadosing on my vitamins now...ya gotta be in shape for that workout..lol...ill def catch ya there for some of the early August shows (my son , who was at that Q show) turns 23 on 8/5, and thats his favorite band...should be a blast...

Ro...ill shoot ya another text in a day or two...my cousin is looking at local live music sched for that thursday date

The exhibit at Guggenheim makes me want to try it, if even for 10 minutes

it would be quite a special experience!

Rob & Scott- very much looking forward to visiting and happy you are going to both shows- tough tickets!

will try to leave early on Friday, check in @ 4

so maybe meet up for White Russians priorblush

go to the show, J!

There is a debate going on here about

what is best route to take Air train to subway from Terminal 4 JFK to 700 block on 8th ave Brooklyn

mapping showing

Jamaica station bound train

from Sutphin ave: Archer Ave

take WTC bound E train 7th Ave station

transfer to Brighton Beach bound B train

get off at 7 th Ave station, walk to destination

Is that direct enough or is there a better way?

Just seeing this thread. Been out on the boat the last few days in Florida.

From JFK to Brooklyn your better off taking the LIRR at Jamaica Terminal to Atlantic Ave terminal in Brooklyn,

then take whichever subway line is close to your destination. Almost every subway line on the MTA system runs thru Atlantic Terminal.

Good luck, safe travels!

^^

If you make it to the Guggenheim Museum, give yourself at least half a day.  It is a Super-Cool place.

TY!

Thinking of seeing Spafford at Music Hall of Williamsburg 4/13.

New to me and the clip sounds funky-

Anyone seen them before?

No, but please let us know how they are & have fun.

Spafford was just added to open for Gov't Mule at the Great South Bay Music Festival (just a few miles from here)

http://www.greatsouthbaymusicfestival.com/artists/

If you like B&W prints and fine German cameras, I highly suggest the Leica gallery in Manhattan.  It's free and small. So it's not a major time commitment if you are in that part of town.

If I don't make it to Leica this trip, will in August

that's right up my alley, TH.

Spafford is all new to me, will report back :)

Hey Ro.

We're leaving around 1 tomorrow and should be at the hotel by 4.

IMG_2691.JPGGreat shows!

IMG_2694_0.JPGSo damn funky

Great seeing you Kate. I started the shows riding the rail  near the keys. in searching for the sound made my way to  the sound board. Then upstairs and hung out in the loge and then the balcony before running in to you at Garcia's.  I found the Sound was really good in every spot. Just before seeing you I hung out with the Caps photographer.  He was very cool.  I commented on the sound being so dialed in and he mentioned it was due to the fact that Trey allows the Caps techs to  work/tweak the sound board unlike other bands. The Capitol Theatre  is an awesome venue.

Great photos Ro!  A fun Friday post show ride and hangout indeed!

Great to see you Ro!

Trey and Band certainly bring high energy to the Cap, agreed!

Super fun shows!

love that Portugal the Man tune Trey covered this weekend.

Great shows! First night 2nd set was a mindbender.

Good seeing you Ro! Thank you to you and your friends for the fun ride to the hotel.

IMG_2699.JPGFun ride to hotel on the spaceship!

Testing Port Chester Po with CA fatties

Friend just hooked me up with both shows

Voodoo better be going in Philly!

Nice photo in the Art Gardens.  Glad they opened just in time for for you Ro!
