Looking at some used electric guitars

Forums:

So, looking at maybe getting a used guitar at local music shop.   Will likely go there over the next few days with my pedalboard & amp and simply run them all through a test drive, but curious if anyone has ever play any of the guitars below?  Any thoughts on quality / value?

1993 G&L Legacy ($699 with gig bag)

1997 Parker Nitefly NFV4 ($899 with flight case)

2010 Fender Blacktop Jaguar HH ($599 with gig bag)

I have a Telecaster & what I think is a great sounding Ibanez (Artcore AS103) knock off of the Gibson ES 335, so was considering a Strat for a different tone ... was thinking that G&L could work well.  However, the Parker has a piezo pickup in addition to magnetics that sounded kind of cool with quick demo at store ... which could work out to be really handy with the looping I do.

The jag would be a different sound from what you already have. I would go there

I played a Parker once - was very impressed with it. Normally they are very expensive.

Go with the Strat, it's an older G&L and those are sweet, and you have a galaxy of choices for different pickups, and 3 slots to put them in

Jags are nice but a limited range of sounds, and it's a 2010. Yuck

Don't buy the Parker unless you are better than Robert Fripp

I have a George Fullerton signature Legacy. 3 bolt neck from around 93. It's my favorite electric guitar. I had to block the trem because I couldn't get used to the dual fulcrum system so now it is dive only. It's not as quacky as a Strat but that's one of the things I like. $700 is a great price.

Definitely the G&L

Thank you all for your thoughts.

Hoping to lug my rig over to the store tomorrow in order to run them all through the paces ... hoping one will stand out re: tone, but have to say the idea of having the "acoustic / piezo" tone on the nitehawk for  mixing things up with loops is very appealing, but it would also require the tone on the magnetic pickups to be up to speed for my tastes in order to be worth it.

My opinion of Parker guitars is that they lack a "voice". Well made, light weight, innovative, but you rarely see one on stage.

Thanks.  Will soon find out if there's enough of a voice, forgot the music shop was closed yesterday.

You were right about the Parker lacking a "voice".

Turns out I bought the G&L ... definitely had the tone that noticeably caught my ear out of any of the models.   I've never owned or really played a strat, so it's a very novel tone / range ... especially coming through the Vox AC15 on a clean setting (and ABY'd out to both the Vox & Fender Twin Reverb on clean!).

The Jaguar was OK, but close enough to my Ibanez to not really enough to make it stand out.  There was actually a fourth guitar that was a smaller botique sort of manufacturer (forgot the name) that had an interesting configuration whereby each of a dual set of humbuckers could revert to single coil via a switch.   This had a really nice tone, but was $1,200.   Wound up getting the G&L for $700 out the door.

Can’t wait for you to take it on an airplane and tell us the story.

Nice guitar. I think G&L USA is on par with Fender Custom Shop in terms of quality and playability. If you email g&l with the serial number they will reply with details. Or check out this link

Thanks, couldn't find the serial number as having been registered, but it appears to be in the same number grouping as other '93's ... so might email G&L just out of curiousity.

I was thinking of Ernie Ball. They reply to emails. I don't think G&L will. That's why there's a guitars by Leo website. I've heard that the numbers are not chronological.

No worries, thanks anyhow.   The guitar is what it is ... and very cool to play!
