Damn. Little Feat was smokin' last night. A shame turnout was so-so (for a Saturday in NYC).
Southside Johnny blew some badass harp and sang a couple verses of Dixie Chicken and then was gone.
Scott Metzger also tore up Dixie Chicken, first with Billy Payne and the drummers while everyone else stood back and watched, and then with everyone else while Payne disappeared for a long stretch (rumbly tummy?). Metzger returned later during the "Hits" bits.
There was also an excellent sax/flute player who got a fair amount of stage time, and peppy little guy (I saw him shuttling guitars stage left afterward, so I assume he was part of the crew) who added more badass harp to the stew.
Sam appears to be having as hard a time getting around as many of the oldsters in the house were (it was scary watching some folks laboring to pull themselves up out of the loge to the balcony landing). But he played and sounded great. Took lead on Got my Mojo Workin'.
Tony Leone is a beast (and sings great back-up). Kenny Gradney is still rock-solid. Scott Sharrard impressed me much more than than he did the one other time I saw him. The slide element is solid.
We saw Fred Tackett on the street on our way in. He looked as if he may have just woke up on the bus. But he kicked ass, too.
Like Hot Tuna two weeks ago, this may have been the last time I see this band, and they did not disappoint.
At both shows, you could point in any direction and say, "Hey. That guy looks like Larry David!"

Saw Leone on PLF tour 10 years ago when they were doing a few Eat a Peach songs. Solid lineup w/Anders Osborne singing Melissa.

Thanks for the review. I'm
Thanks for the review. I'm kinda surprised this band is still touring and charging a good price. I'm a long time fan and was shocked how awful they were the last time I saw them with Barrere. But great songs and there are many worse ways to spend an evening. Go see the Rock n Roll doctor tonight.
