The town is the location of a historic Yule Marble quarry along the mountains that began operations in the late 19th century, and from which the town draws its name. It has been used for the Tomb of the Unknowns, as well as for parts of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., and civic buildings in San Francisco. It was also used for the construction of the Equitable Building, a historically important early skyscraper in New York City
these pics are from near Delta Colorado
A new company bought the marble mine and have hauled a huge amount out of the mountains to their depot along the rail line
The marble of the quarry is considered to be of exceptional quality, praised as one of the purest marbles ever quarried and a rival to classical Italian and Greek marble.
This picture barely shows how many volkswagon bug sized blocks they have on the lot. Notice the travel lift to load the blocks on the train or trucks
They have a free pile too
I plan to cut some coasters and put some felt on the bottom

That's so weird, I just saw
That's so weird, I just saw that plant passing through Delta on the way back from Moab on Saturday and noticed all of those packages, but couldn't quite figure it out! Hopefully, the actual "town" of Marble isn't adversely affected. It's a very sleepy tiny town of under 200 people ... similar to where I live. I couldn't imagine a giant commercial operation moving in and taking over. Still, there's always been talk of renewed mining in the region and is always a card in the deck. I have some friends who played "Marble Fest" at least a couple times over the years. Thanks for posting.

Last time I was at our marble
Last time I was at our marble mine I was with little Lisa the Lesbian (must be under 5'), I noticed a mineralized dike going thru the material, and said look at the little dike... she pork chopped me with her elbow!
Some mineralized parts in limestone, fulfilling the rock porn neediness of this thread (from Josephine County Oregon)

I was at a show of the same
I was at a show of the same band I posted above (Joint Point) at Big B's Orchard near Paonia this past Friday and was thinking of this thread at the time. Since the orchard is right off the highway and would likely see trucks coming over from Marble (if they take the route via McClure Pass and not via I70):
