Mickey Hart

Forums:

I was interested in discussing the recent work of Mickey Hart. I want to hear opinions on Mickey's contribution to Dead & Company, both during the songs and during drums.

Other endeavors, like Mickey Hart Band are also worthy as part of the discussion. I will reserve my comments for a bit.

On a related note, yesterday's episode of "The World" included a short segment, noting the 25th anniversary of Mickey Hart's "Planet Drum."  This had part of an interview from Mickey dated 2001, during which he remembers listening to old Latin rhythms with Bill Graham: Bill would land his helicopter at Mickey's house and they'd fly up and down the California Coast, with headphones on, listening to bootleg tapes.

It's at the last 5-10 minutes of this show:

Cool Drummer, Saw him and his Great Band in  pesqui little theatre in Norwalk Ct a few years back, he's a trippy dude.had fun and the music was good

Love Mickey plus nobody else is playing drums with marshmallow sticks or the egg beaters to create those unique sounds. Dead & Company video camera people need to capture both drummers at the same time not separately. They should use some of theses cool camera angles for the drummers...

Two drummer is where it's at for the full spectrum of sound!

I had a great time seeing Mickey Hart Band on the tour with the brain probe instrument. It was modern, driven, energetic and awesome. Wish he would tour again.

Saw him once at the Community theater( now the Mayo performing arts center) in Morristown NJ in the late 90's and Babatunde Olatunji showed up for a few songs. That was cool.

I agree totally about the Mickey Hart Band. But with Dead and Company, it really seems like during the songs that Billy is really driving the bus. It's hard to even hear Mickey. Drums is a different story. Mickey is amazing during drums.

Looking for the secret

Searching for the one . . .

I can't really comment on his contribution to Dead Co but I can say I never miss a local Mickey Hart show where it is his band.  He surrounds himself with top musicians and brings it.  Everyone I've seen is memorable.
