Watching the freezing rain melt the overnight Snow into Slush here in Central NJ, from a cozy heated room.
Then I hear some sounds other than the wind gusts: sounds like some overweight limbs fell out of a tree.
Moments later, BBRRRZZZZAAPP from the big transformer on the utility pole.
Hopefully, a one-time anomaly.

Shortly after I typed above,
Shortly after I typed above, I heard Electric Co. truck radio and took Hüsky out to investigate. They'd already left. Now there's two trucks in my driveway, one JCP&L and the boom truck with bucket for the tree cutter.
Apparently the Locust that fell on the main lines 50 yards away knocked out power to the whole "neighborhood" for a mile or so on the rural road. It's right near the brand new utility pole from 'Sandy'
But I must say these guys are right on the situation. And I never lost juice, except after they shut off the main fuse 10 minutes ago. So I gotta wait an hour to make my lattê. Coulda been worse.

I was mistaken. It was a
I was mistaken. It was a Maple, not Locust. Base was all rotten. They came and chopped it up, and I was saying "if you want to cut down these, that's fine." Other problem trees near the lines. However, they declined.
Juice might be back on now, so I can run the espresso machine.

Yes, Mr. JazFish.
Yes, Mr. JazFish.
Tom the JCP&L dude was quite professional. So were the tree-removal fellows. Brand-new $200 K bucket-truck rig they drove, all Stihl chainsaws because they work. Also a Neat-O hydraulic extension chainsaw on a 12-foot pole.
Juice is all running again and I've got some Maple to cut up, conveniently off the muddy driveway.
But the furry Fiend wants to go nuts in the Snow, so I'll take H.I.M. in the Woods for a romp. Crazy Hound
