Wagner Group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin is absolutely loosing his shit over Putin's failing war.   If anyone is going to mount a coup attempt, it will be him.

Worse.  Putin is a dove compared to this guy.  But if there was a coup, it would probably distract the Russians from Ukraine as they will be too busy fighting with each other for control over the vacuum left by Putin's overthrow.  Sort of how the 1917 revolution ended Russia's participation in WWI.

Prigozhin just posted a video of himself making the following statement:

"PMC Wagner Commanders’ Council made a decision: the evil brought by the military leadership of the country must be stopped. They neglect the lives of soldiers. They forgot the word “justice”, and we will bring it back. Those, who destroyed today our guys, who destroyed tens, tens of thousands of lives of Russian soldiers will be punished. I’m asking: no one resist. Everyone who will try to resist, we will consider them a danger and destroy them immediately, including any checkpoints on our way. And any aviation that we see above our heads. I’m asking everyone to remain calm, do not succumb to provocations, and remain in their houses. Ideally, those along our way, do not go outside. After we finished what we started, we will return to the frontline to protect our motherland. Presidential authority, Government, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Rosgvardia, and other departments will continue operating as before. We will deal with those who destroy Russian soldiers. And we will return to the frontline. Justice in the Army will be restored. And after this, justice for the whole of Russia."

This follows reports of a Russian missle strike on a Wagner Group headquaters.

An emergency security plan is reported to have been activated in Moscow in response to Yevgeny Prigozhin's 'rebellion', according to a Telegram channel with apparent links to the Russian security forces. An imminent attack on Moscow appears to be anticipated.

Yep.  Armored vehicles around the Duma and Kremlin.  There are reports of a large Wagner convoy on its way to Rostov in the south of the country near the Ukranian border.   Road blocks are going up there too and lots of military vehicles on the streets.   Border guards apparently didn't try to stop them as they were crossing over from Ukraine.

It's morning in Russia and twitters showing the Wagner column has entered Rostov without much of a fight.  MoD apparently ordered helicopter attacks but the pilots refused orders.

Just waiting for Putin to accidentally fall out a six floor window.   

It's pretty clear Russia can't continue to wage its ground war in Ukraine without Wagner 

conversely the only logical reply to this coup is for the Russian army to fully and completely demolish Wagner in battle, inside Russia 

at this point (militarily,) does Russia even have this capability? Or the will? 

someone is going to lose here, bigly. Either way this is quite good for Ukraine.

And there probably won't be a better strategic opportunity for Ukraine to retake crimea and the donbas region than exists right now

At least during his tirade yesterday, Prigozhin (crazy mother fucker) was going off about how the whole invasion of Ukraine was stupid and that the country didn't pose any risk to Russia.   We will see how it turns out but history is happening.

And some MoD helicopters attempting to follow orders just got shot down.

Actually,upon reflection I think this a ploy. Prigozhin Is going to Belarus to attack Ukraine from the northwhile theRussian army holds the Southern border in a classic Pincer move.

Could be.. because it doesn't make sense that Putin's Oligarch/Mercenary/General can get away with anything even close to an attempted coup and not be eliminated. Unless Putin is really that weak and beholden to his Oligarchs. Unlikely but a possibility.

Another popular theory is that this was a Russian psyop.  But any tactical advantage would be grossly outweighed by the embarrassment and damage done to Russia's reputation by this total shit show.   Dude overplayed his hand and probably thought other units of the regular army would join him.

And Prigozhin isn't going to just waltz away into exile and live happily ever after.  Dead man walking and I am sure there is a six story window with his name on it.

Wonder what happens to Prigozhin's Wagner Group mercenaries with no one to pay them.  Hard to see 25,000 mercenary soldiers just merging to regular Russian Army pay and discipline.  Apparently, many were convicts, given freedom from prison in exchange for fighting.  Maybe some of them join the regular army to keep out of prison, but how will they fit in with regular units?  They were on the road to Moscow 24 hours ago.

Putin's legacy will be shaped by whether he purges this insurrection or shows he has lost the will of the other oligarchs and gets pushed aside.

If Putin was funding The Wagner Group, who's going to pay these guys?  How many will just rejoin the regular army?  Lukashenko said Prigozhin's stay in Belarus is Wagner's expense.  Doesn't sound like a large Wagner camp will develop in Belarus.  Time for Kiev to push the offensive.

Now the Wagner fighters on the other hand can't support themselves. They are supposed to give up their weapons and what walk to Belarus? And do you think Belarus wants a bunch of unemployed mercenaries known mostly for committing war crimes hanging out. If you were a Wagner fighter would you give up your weapons. Sounds like a one way ticket to Siberia would be the best possible out come for Wagner fighters after they give up their weapons.  They are still the big wild card in this whole thing. Prigozhin got his deal and fucked his fighters in the process. 

Apparently, Belarus is going to give Wagner an abandoned military base to use. Lukashenko seems to be the only one coming out ahead in this cluster fuck.   Poland isn't happy about the idea.
