Mott the Hoople 2019

Forums:

I bet this happens this spring > summer 2019.

& Tickets go on sale in about 2-3 weeks.

Ian Hunter is up for it..

I'm not familiar with these guys.

we almost got into a fist fight with them at Fillmore West in 1970

Not a fan.

Saw the 74 run on Broadway.  A year later saw the Hunter / Ronson band at the Felt Forum.  I might be up for it depending upon price.......

The theater I go to, has a batch of concerts about to be announced and they are in cahoots with Ian's manager.

Slacker I have been getting schooled in these guys on XM latley and saw Ian Hunter 18 months ago and it was a great show.

google is your friend

7 UK shows announced for April 2019 on sale in Feb, no mention of US dates

Klondike - how about a few more details this seems like it could be interesting.

we were at a world series of rock back in the 70’s with a bunch of hard rock bands, and one of the main headliners (Aerosmith) cancels. Well South Side Johnny and the Assberry Dukes take the spot, not the greatest replacement at 80 thousand seat stadium expecting thunder from the gods. We are on the field and the guys next to us are a bunch of dicks and are throwing shit at SSJ and Dukes. After their set who comes wading thru the masses to the blanket next to us? Miami Steve, SSJ, and a couple more from the band. They are telling the guys next to us that they have backstage passes and want them to come on back with them. Everyone is yelling no they are going to kick your ass. Well they stayed and the dukes eventually left with no fireworks, well our crew did have some smoke bombs, but no artillary.

^^^

I believe you mean SSJ and the Jukes who are great but not in front of 80,000

I am hearing both smaller and larger theaters, like the robin thrower tour in March.

With a festival run in the US this summer.

I will give you NYC folks a tip, the city winery may be the launch pad...

^^

Since Ian plays there a lot, I can see it but not the place I want to see them, I saw X there a few years ago , rock bands need more space and crank it

Jukes, yea that’s it, The Michael Stanley Band of the East Coast

I've no idea who the Michael Stanley Band is, I always have a great time at a SSJ & AJ's show, wonderful rock and soul band. Your results may vary

Slacker, I made an Ian Hunter Mini Movie to close out the year yesterday, and used Mott the Hoople's "Half Moon Bay' at the end.

Which was obviously very controversial at the time; the track closes out Mott's debut album in 1969 and is almost 11 minutes long.

Enjoy ~

Always liked Mott the hoople, never saw them. Got to see robin trower first time in 40 years this past spring. He still has his guitar skills, miss James reward voice. Robin sings some of his new songs, not bad, but not great

Michael Stanley Band - Rosewood Bitters...

Yeah I saw Ian Hunter and his RANT Band in 2017 and became a big fan overnight

Denny Dewars voice is missed.I agree.

Hey Joe, Micheal Stanley has never gotten air play in NY until XM.  He does covers real well & Rosewood Bitters is a very good song for him.

Mott The Hoople was one of the greatest ROCK AND ROLL bands ever!  Saw them in the very early 70's in Fresno. Was a big fan.

I saw Ian Hunter last yr and he still kicks ass.  I am looking forward to this tour.

I was a big fan before seeing them. My friends all made fun of me until they came to town(Fresno).  The show was Golden Earing opening, Mott The Hoople and Ronnie Montrose, who was huge at the time, was the headliner.  Golden Earing had only one song that was a hit and there set showed why.  Then the Hoople came on and blew everyone away. Including all of my friends. For the rest of the night, and during Montroses set, everyone was yelling for Mott The Hoople to come back out. They never made fun of my musical tastes after that.

Nice Video, Bluelight!

Oh wow. Amazing.

So glad you wrote that Mark.

The bass player for both Mott & Ian's band Peter "Over-End" Watts sadly passed away last January.

He was integral part of the band's sound & if they do not tour, it would be because of that.

Mick Ralph's guitar playing is hidden in most of Mott's body of work.  Not sure he is in on this or not...

I think that's why he left and started Bad Company.

The Hoople as played a few shows already. All were outdoor festivals in Europe.

Thank you sir!!

Have any of you read the book Mott The Hoople?

Hunter w/Ronson opened for the Kinks in the summer of '79

6th concert I ever attended, was blown away by their set

Almost forgot we were there to see the Kinks - $8 ticket

Pre-fame, the band had various names, one being The Shakedown Sound....

Bowie was a huge fan, and upon hearing they were talking about breaking up, offered them "Suffragette City" for an album they were working on. They turned it down, so he wrote "All The Young Dudes" for them.

And, as "they" say....the rest is History....

Great Band....

No Joe. I will pock it up Tuesday at the library, or have it ordered. Thanks !

Rick the Viva Zoner here is the was first posting about  Ian & his Rant band.

Well put Jambone ^

My aunt used to refer to someone who "was a piece of work" as a hoople.

She's a hoople, that one.

Happy New Years !!

I only got to see Mott once, but what a night it was. On Broadway with a new group in the supporting slot that was on it's first US tour...Queen.

Mott must be so good live ski.  Those two groups well. Right?

I feel deprived and upset with NY Radio for not schooling me up on Mott the Hoople...

XM just said although Mott the Hoople are definitely playing more shows in Europe...

In Hunter was recently swayed to bring the Mott the Hoople back to the USA for an official full fledged US Mott the Hoople tour in 2019

"Ian said "the Mott the Hoople 2019 will be a core trio with Airel Bender focusing on Motts work in 1974"

Enjoy music fans ~

I feel deprived and upset with NY Radio for not schooling me up on Mott the Hoople...

Not sure what NY radio station you listened to but WNEW-FM played a bunch of Mott during the 70's. That's where I was exposed to them.

Great band! Saw them in NYC in 1980 and 81.  One of the shows was at The Pier and had Utopia on the bill was an excellent night of music. If they come west I will attend for sure.
