My Fathers Place...

Roslyn, NY.....kingfish....

Yes, I was there too.

I think you know that I know that you know then

Yup!

Well... in that case....we know that you know what I know.....Thanks for making me smile

grew up in Roslyn.  moved off the island 9 years ago

My favorite show from MFP was Robert Hunter in May of '82.

Missed Kingfish

Franklin  Square here......moved a lifetime ago but seem to live everywhere

Oh... was that Comfort....boy they were great shows....I agree

I was 16 when I snuck into Kingfish.....he he

Another MFP alum ! If you were a kid on LI in the 70s you were a MFP alum.

Hey why's my name appearing ?   Lolol. Reminiscent of the Peggy Lacy virus.

Hi old friends!

Born 1960

Peggy ...strange things happen

Hello old friends its good to see you once again

Hey Peg!

Also saw Hunter there. Born 1960.

You can probably edit that in your profile, Peg

Born in 61.

Got carded buying smokes yesterday.  The register girl looked all of 13. If she needed to know my birth yr, I sure as hell needed to know hers.  19 fucking97.  Lolol no way did I feel old.

And howdy Hall, and all my LI homies. :)

Hey Peggy....LI....right back to you

Only went there once took my brother to a Bromberg quartet show on Xmas.

I guess David didn't feel like Chinese and a movie.

Kingfish was amazing as a young lad .... with Donna and Billy.....was waiting for Jerry to walk out all night....but no

There was also a "My Father's Place" in downtown Manhattan near enough to Washington Square Park. Saw R. Hunter there early '80's. Place was not very large; we were maybe 8-10 feet away.

Hi Stu, Peg and Mr Trips

Forgot about the many Jorma solo shows he played at MFP.

The parties under the rail road trestle which was the parking lot were epic.

Across the street on Roslyn road was another club called US Blues.

Local acts like Volunteers and the Stanton Anderson Band would play there often.

Roslyn rocked back in the day.

LI was definitely a great place to grow up/come of age (lol that sounds so corny), between the beach and it's super easy LIRR close proximity to the city, tons of music every where you turn, really super lucky to be a kid in the 70s.  Drinking age 18 (which meant 15 with those super easy to erase  non-picture NYS driver's licenses) and not to mention the abundance of GD shows within a 3 hr drive (or hitch hike relatively safely.). School was a total joke with our own smoking lounges and come and go as you please policies.  Ah the good old days.  :). Don't think it would be nearly as fun today.

Wow forgot about Hot Tuna playing and Commander Cody......

If it was 1982 it wasn't Comfort, just saying cheeky

Maybe it was a different band and maybe he didn't have a band. I wasn't there in May of 82, but I know the Hunter&Comfort association was over by then.

keyword: relatively wink

bromberg, tuna, levon and rick with cindy cashdollar, brandx , so many  but heres a good one for the long island crew of the 70's...The midnite shows at the mini cinema in uniondale..a crazy free for all watching the best concert films, monty python, plus!!

Ahhh.....the Mini Cinema, Grateful Dead movie, over and over and over.....Jack in the Box right down the block...."I'll take 3 super tacos with extra lettuce, cheese and hot sauce"....they did it every time

1982 Hunter was solo. Only about 50 folks there.

Hunter and Eppy (MFP owner) were eating and hanging at the bar way before the show.

There was no backstage, just a small room in front of the bathrooms, and Hunter was there with his Martin Guitar

I have the stub I should be able to post it soon. He played The Other End in the Village the next night.

Robert Hunter, My Father’s Place, Roslyn NY 5/20/1982

PS-Waiting on line at the Mini at midnight was so LI

Was that the The Bitter End....brick wall behind a tiny stage....encored with Terrapin Station which was for whatever reason unsual ....

One of my favorite gigs there was Link Wray with John Cipollina....a true clash of guitar titans. Blew me away. I also saw John Cipollina there sitting in with the Healy-Treece Band, which consisted of Dead soundman Dan Healy on guitar, Keith Godchaux on bass, a guy named Treece, Kathi McDonald on vocals. Keith was really buzzed so for the second set they put John's brother Mario Cipollina in on bass and Keith switched over to keys where he didn't do much. John, however was super high energy that night and they played crazy covers like Jumpin'Jack Flash, Runaway, and other rock standards. It was a wild night. The various Hunter gigs there were the stuff of legends. Also, I almost forgot the Gravenites-Ciopollina band played there too.

The Bitter End/The Other End, yeah Mr. Trips.

Still open.

All good.... just didnt know if we were talking about the same place.....Bottom Line down the street on the corner, now that was a crazy place ....a whole 'nother story

Here is the Robert Hunter ticket stub from The Bitter End:

Favorite MFP memory....

Jorma Acoustic show, down in the pit...

He finishes song, reaches over and adjusts his amp.

Guy standing in aisle behind me SCREAMS "LOUDER, TURN IT UP. JORMA MAKE ME DEAF!"

Good times.....

That was it....my mistake

I remember being at My Father's Place in Roslyn for that Robert Hunter show in 1982. Place was empty.  Told a friend a while back we were at a Robert Hunter show in the early 80's at MFP and he didn't remember it and when I did a search for that show on line I couldn't find one so I thought maybe my memory had failed me.  Any chance anyone has the songlist?

Hi Scarlet,

No the show does not circulate, but The Bitter End does (link below)

I hung with Robert before the MFP 1982 show and between sets. He had the first set list on his guitar and played a Dead set with Ripple & Easy Wind in his second set.

The 5/82 MFP show was the absolute first time he played "Touch Of Grey" for the first time, and he was not pleased at all.

I was there with 3 friends as witness and I told him it sounded great.

Richie Havens played a free little show at My Fathers Place in October of 1982 on a Monday night.

The only caveat was you had to be psychedelic and wear your best sixties garb.

Richie was filming crowd scenes for a (unreleased) documentary of Jimi Hendrix.

Randy Hansen came out and did his Jimi Hendrix act/impersonation, while we went wild for the film cameras.

Then Richie Havens came out and played the most wonderful set for us.

What ever happened to the footage of Phil sitting at the Nassau Coliseum, when he wanted thoughts ...post Jerry, seemed like a pro shot set up.....❤️ For Jerry
