That's a good one for sure,
That's a real good one for sure, and very unique, but that's your FAVORITE Fire on the Mountain? Ever??
OK.

Thanks for posting. Will
Thanks for posting. Will check that out after my morning presentation.
Dead set is great but really just love the sequence out of space. So fluid and melty.
Lance - step up and put yours down. Don't just be talking.
I struggle with this one. 5.8.77 is not my favorite despite how good it is.
Heady version lists the following stand alone versions:
10.31.80
9.16.78 Giza
7.13.85 Ventura - I need to check this one out
7.27.73 Watkins Glen "Embryonic "Fire" in the "soundcheck jam" into Wharf Rat. Not a full FTM, but of amazing..."
7.4.86 Ventura
9.20.91 Boston - Help slip fire - another great transition
5.27.93 cal expo Picasso -> fire. Not a huge picasso fan but they typically played hot shows when they played that song.
And then with Scarlet: - but it's the whole package getting the votes.
5.8.77
2.5.78 Iowa
3.22.90 Copps
4.24.77 Illinois state
7.7.89 Philly
11.30.80 ATL
5.25.77 Richmond
5.17.77 Memorial
10.14.83 Hartford
11.1.79 Nassau
5.21.77 Lakeland
10.14.94 MSG - orgasmic but Jerry flubs the lyrics as typical in this era.

Didn't mean to downplay
Didn't mean to downplay anyone's experience. A favorite is a personal thing, no one else can quantify another's favorite, and that is a fun one, I was just surprised because of the seemingly endless Grateful Dead versions that are so great.
IMO Fire on the Mountain is one of those GD songs that pretty much always worked.
>>>Lance - step up and put yours down<<<
OK. I suppose this is a perfect setup for a "favorites" thread, so from the too many to count file here are three of my personal FOTM favorites that immediately come to mind...
02/17/82 Warfield Theater
09/12/81 Greek Theatre
And of course...
12/31/78 Winterland
Oh, that 12/31/78 show.

Yep - this is a good one.....
Yep - this is a good one...... post-coma Jerry seemed happy to be playing. And he was looking relatively healthy.
I had been to a bunch of Bay area shows by then, but without a car, California north of Mt Tam was still mostly an unexplored mystery. When someone said we were going to a "Jerry" show in Petaluma, I had no idea where Petaluma was. Then to find out the show was in an elementary school auditorium... with Santana no less. And maybe with some other Dead members. And on a Sunday. Cool. (Pre -Internet, one had to rely on vague info passed down by the better-connected, brief snippets published ihe Pink section, and parking lot rumors.)
I remember it was crowded, there were lots of families and kids, and we had to sit thru a lot of drumming before Jerry really joined in.
To put the show in context, here's my concert list for the surrounding months:

I was fortunate to have been
I was fortunate to have been at this Petaluma show and it was as unique of a show that I've attended. Olatunji and his group entered from the back of the auditorium and marched their way through the crowd to the stage. I stood next to Steve Kimock for most of the night and part way into Olatunji's set, Jerry walked by and hung out to watch. No one approached him while he was there and he got to groove a bit before he heading out for his turn on the stage.

Don't have a favorite but I
Don't have a favorite but I'll always remember Friday the 13th 4/13/84 in Hampton, but that was all Healy. I don't think they ever did it again so my guess is Jerry didn't approve, but sure was fun in the moment as everyone looked around trying to determine if everyone was hearing that, or was it just me.
