Electric has been out all day, continual downpours since yesterday evening, add in some nice blasts of 45 MPH wind from the East.
Fortunately I've got a gas range, so Hüsky's warm evening repast was served. He likes a nice hot meal.
Inconvenient as I just picked up a "new used" fridge yesterday, but not much point in plugging it in.
Laptop has some battery left, phone down to 20 % charge.
Waiting to hear from my buddy the Electric co. lineman as to what went down. Lots of trees fallen, wind + saturated ground. He figures it is some major shit, and the co. is waiting for parts to arrive.
I feel for that guy working the Night Shift in this Krap weather. It is a tough job.

Back on at 9:30 EST, charging fone & laptop battery. I don't mind being AC-less for a bit, but if temps drop down in the 20's it's a concern for frozen pipes.
Getting into the low 20's this weekend for 5-6 days. So hopefully no more outages for a while.
I really need a couple small generators here for these occasions.

Glad you're safe Lyn. Weather must be nutso there with you close to BOTH coasts. Still super windy tonight, but hey the batteries are charged up again.
Face, the new well has its tanks in the barn, which has no woodstove. Where the water line comes in my cellar and feeds house pipes, I've got heat tape on that, powered by AC current. So AC power is part of the equation to keep pump running and pipes from well to tanks warm. Just wired up a 30-amp circuit to feed softener and space heater to warm it + pressure tank. Not me, the licensed electrician :)

Windy as heck last night & this morning up here in the NE.
Snow, ice pellets, sleet, probably switching over to rain soon here on the coast.
No schools today, but power is still good! Think we are through the bulk of it, I can handle some messy rain & wind today.
Glad you got power back Stu, few hours are ok, but days are a challenge!

You still getting hit Tom? It had mostly stopped by me. The wind & rain lightened up. Fortunately, I'm inland enough that I don't get flooded too often. Gotta be tough being right on the water.

Just a light rain, Chuck, but the tide is the issue. No chance I flood though, first floor sits ten feet above sea level. Living on the water is not bad, but the nor'easters can get interesting.

Just added a bag of salt
Just added a bag of salt crystals to the brine tank (for the softener)...
There is no one absolute perfect scenario for the new Well setup, but I was trying to adapt to the existing infrastructure when creating the plan.
Barn has a nice new, modern electrical panel right where the tanks are. In comparison to the ancient breaker-box in my shack. So there is a new breaker for Well-pump, and another new one for softener and outlet for a small space heater. I could always add another pressure-tank in the shack's cellar, but that would be for emergencies, and probably overkill.
The two vulnerable points during the combination of electrical outage + sub-freezing temps are the big concern; my answer to that is to drain the freezable areas of pipe if need be.
Rest of the pipes are deep below frostline. Well is drilled 225 feet deep, and pump is 125' or so below surface.

>>> Gfish, what caused the
>>> Gfish, what caused the power outage? 2 days, man that's rough.
frequent, and sometimes prolonged, power outages are a fact of life here in the boonies of northwestern California, esp. in a big winter like we've been having this season
I've lived here in rural coastal Humboldt for 36 years... it's one of the most seismically active areas in North America (3 continental plates join just offshore), and is situated in steep, rugged terrain that is highly prone to erosion during wet winters... our power lines are almost exclusively above-ground, so gale-force winds and saturated soils on unstable hillsides often result in widespread toppling of large trees which can take out long stretches of power lines and snap power poles like toothpicks
when power outages are extensive, like they've been this winter, my rural, sparsely populated community is usually one the last places where power is restored
power outages of one to 2 days here are not uncommon, and local folks are kinda used to that reality... in early January, the power was out for 4 straight days, which really sucked
back in the extreme winter of 1990 or maybe 1991, we were without power here for 10 consecutive days... THAT was a real hardship here, esp. for folks without generators, lol

Monday night in southern RI
Monday night in southern RI we NASTY weather. Torrential downpouring and sustained winds of what I guess had to be 50 mph the entire night. Tuesday morning was not much better.
James Woods is my daughter's neighbor and a large tree fell from his yard and blocked the road in/out of the neighborhood.
Missing the snow :(

Yes Monday brought some heinous Weather; Sunday night started it. Some really serious Wind accompanied by PNW-like Rain. The Dawg really wanted to not be outdoors, preferring the comfort of a dry blanket. Give H.I.M. some Snow and he's happy -- can't drag that animal indoors.
But no Rain, NO RAIN !!
