Looks like this one may get added to the archives soon, and maybe an official release.  They've got audio and video.  A club show tour warmup just after finishing Ragged Glory.

That would have been something.....

Saw him there (with a fake ID) in '84... blew my young mind!

If only they'd release the footage Jim Jarmusch took at Old Princeton Landing during that epic run in '96.

Jarmusch and his crew were just practicing leading up to the movie they were going to make about the European tour the Horse did in the summer of '96, but they were set up and filming a few of the last OPL shows that happened in June.

In retrospect they made a huge mistake making a rather dull tour movie instead of a movie documenting that great run of 14 shows at OPL & the two at the Catalyst. Of course at the time they had no idea that the OPL deal would go as long as it did. It was all just at Neil's whim, with the shows happening in random groups starting in March and ending in June, but man that would have made a great movie.

It was as unique a thing that has happened in rock, and those shows and the scene that grew around them developed a life of their own, with an array of characters and situations, and then of course there were the raging 3-set shows in a bar packed with 100 people inside.

That footage has to be somewhere. RELEASE IT!!!

Thanks Knot. I have audio recordings of all the shows and they're great to listen to, but I was talking specifically about the video footage that must be sitting around somewhere.

Still, a fine addition to this thread.

I want to know more about this scene and the characters.

If Felina is going to come out of retirement, I figure this thread ought to do it...

Well Knot, it was 23 years ago and there is no way I'm eloquent enough to put it into words; ultimately it's one of those you-had-to-be-there deals.

Old Princeton Landing is just a little dive bar in the corner of nowhere up against the Pacific Ocean north of Half Moon Bay, and one of the greatest rock 'n roll bands that's ever existed was playing unannounced 3-set shows there on & off for months,  performing as "The Echoes", and almost no one knew it was happening, except those who did.

The funky setting, how those dedicated folks worked to get into that little dive night after night, the closeness & intimacy that developed throughout the whole thing, the very odd personalities involved and the fucking AMAZING music I heard made it the most amazing thing in music I've ever personally experienced/been involved with in my life, and I've experienced and been involved in a few pretty cool deals in music over the years.

Now all we can do is listen to the recordings, which are just great.

mind = blown

>>>If Felina is going to come out of retirement, I figure this thread ought to do it<<<

One can hope.

BTW, I didn't mean to hijack this thread. It's great that a cool recording of Neil & Crazy Horse could be coming out, I just can't help myself when these type of discussions come up.

And DAMN this mashup recording Knot posted of OPL recordings is rocking me OUT!

Ya'll owe it to yourselves to listen to it, LOUD if possible.

just the best

I saw some of the 1996 club shows. Crazy Horse was loose on the town. There were two shows at the Catalyst that were actually canceled when Neil cut his finger making a sandwich. The crowd was in line out front when Tim Foster came out and let us know that tonight is off. It was a bummer. I think that was the following year after the big 96 run that included OPL.

Boots and Saddles Lodge.. Neil would often stop in and play. La Honda. Burned to the ground.

Lance... I still have my Echoes tee shirt from that run of shows!  Only clue on shirt is his cigar store Indian.

A baloney samwhich if memory serves. I have my unused stub for the 2nd night Catalyst somewhere

Neil was driving himself to the shows in his vintage caddy

Didn't miss the next time he spontaneously played the Santa Cruz Civic with Booker T. and The Mgee's
