New Years Shows

Forums:

Going to the Motet tonight at the Crystal, Spafford tomorrow at the Get Down, and Karl Denson at Revolution Hall on NYE.  Watched the first night of Phish at MSG last night and will probably squeeze in a replay of more Phish and/or a Billy Strings show or two.

What shows are you going to or seeing?

Nice...

Seeing Govt Mule @ The Met in Philly tonight.

I'll catch Bmfs on the nugs but I haven't attended a NYE show in person since 1990, I've had a long standing stay at home policy for new years

Jerry's Middle Finger the night before in Felton and probably the inside of my eyelids on NYE. Wife will probably want to watch some Bob Weir.

That's gonna be a fun show, alan

and with a very special guest

^ I can't imagine who but I like the idea of that

I'll likely stay local and support some of my musician friends here in Corvallis, OR (nothing like walking to a show from home)

The Motet is always fun, use to party w/ Joey Porter back when he lived in Corvallis.

Gonna hit Leftover Salmon on Sat.  Prolly stay home NYE. Would like to do SCI  but if anything would probably be Achilles Wheel in Nevada City.

I'm hitting up tomorrow (day before NYE - They play Napa, CA on 12/31):

Don't miss X. They were great a couple weeks back in Portland

Hopefully X doesn't mean no set by Coolx3 on their own, just as good as the main act

Haven't gone out on NYE since the GD stopped playing it.

Safer at home and the weather usually sucks.

The kids and I will be working our way through some Pertwee era Dr Who in memory of Richard Franklin who died on Christmas... I know that probably sounds ultra exciting to you guys lol. Got in one episode (The Daemons) before Billy tonight.

Crippled But Free tomorrow night.  Any Zoners seen them?

Bobby & Wolf Bros on NYE. "You know to me that seems to be about right."

12/30 Remain In Light/X

12/31 Jerry's Middle Finger

^^^ yes!

Until I got sick, I was invited to help with the liquid light show at that JMF show. I had taken a workshop with that artist last spring.

Bummed I'll miss it!

#covidholidays

Anyone need 2 ADA seats for SCI NYE at the Fox in Oakland?

So far, watched Lespecial opening for Umprhey's,   Never heard them before, but people rave about them.  Power trio that sounds Primus.  Really trippy.

Then watched the first half of Billy Strings.  The boys were dressed like they just stepped off a river boat and played an old timey set.

Then went to the Crystal for the Motet, which was good as usual, but the opening band Too Many Zooz was interesting.  Just a rumpet, sax, and one man marching band drum kit.  High energy and lots of noise from a very stripped down ensemble.  Guess they got their start busking in the New York subway. Can't imagine how that would sound in a subway platform.

Spafford tonight but will probably watch the Phish sometime today.

los lobos playing locally at a small place. $100 show. gonna pass, don't really go out on nye. bummed I just missed the reamin in the light shows here but had too much going on.

^ Too Many Zooz was interesting

I've been watching videos of the Bari sax player for years, usually in the NY subway, fun music, and some of his dance steps are pretty amazing considering the uniqueness in both playing and prancing!  Didn't know they made it out west, would have been fun to see!

I'm spending the holidays with family in central New York State, near Syracuse, and was seriously considering seeing the Sam Grisman Project in nearby Geneseo, NY...

but I waited too long and now the shows are sold out. sad

Exene is MAGA.

And that may be the tip of the iceberg.

damn u and your cold hard truths, AIQ :(

Jerry's Middle Finger is an decent ambassador of Jerry music. I like the fact that they play extended renditions of the catalog so it creates a realistic JGB "environment." Very immersive, at least in the barn-like Felton Music Hall.

The lead guitar guy impersonates (In a good way) Jerry's playing well. He's got the tone and accents down. I think the best part of the band is the way he is intuitively locked into the bass player. He also sings lead and though he doesn't really have that nasal Jerry voice (maybe because he doesn't constantly coat his throat with tobacco and coke) -- the guy is giving it his all on every tune. In fact my only "complaint" is that he's a little too fresh and clean cut -- I like my Jerrys looking and sounding like they just rolled outta bed.

The bass player is impressive and glues the whole mix together. And the two women back-up singers sound especially good together (Melvin might want to steal them because they do a really good job). I didn't pay attention to the drumming too much but people were throwing down, so that's a good sign. The organ was the weakest link of the ensemble -- it sounded a little light -- the guy played Melvin well but what came out of the PA didn't have the authority and the depth as the original, maybe because of the the lack of a real B3 and Leslie.

If the price is right, they are worth checking out. Good way for oldsters to reminisce and younguns to get a taste of what it was like.

I like my Jerrys looking and sounding like they just rolled outta bed.

Garret just recently shaved off hi mutton chops and beard!

they are a fantastic band, we;re going tonight to see them in Berkeley.

X and Remain in Light were super fun last night at the Warfield!

^ Enjoy and be safe driving! That goes for everyone.

Have fun at JMF!

Free video stream of last night's Garcia Birthday Band show at Portland's Mission Theater -- with a Pigpen guest vocalist.  Same channel, Grateful Web, will live stream for free again tonight.   So many good streams tonight!

[1] Unfinished.
[2] Jo Lampert on additional vocals.
[3] Annie Golden on additional vocals.

Tube contained teases of the theme to The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Harpua was unfinished. During the Harpua narration, a bed appeared from beneath the front of the stage, with an actor playing Jimmy and a puppet version of Poster Nutbag. Trey talked about some of the Harpuas of the past 40 years, then interrupted the song before the “I want a dog” lyric. Trey said Jimmy had lacked a strong female influence over the years, and introduced actress Annie Golden as Jimmy’s grandmother. While consoling Jimmy, she told him it was time to tell the truth about the owner of Harpua. After telling Jimmy that the old man had given the puppet to Esther and helped Reba make liquid meat, a book was brought forth, and a glowing rhombus rose to frame the entire stage. The band then began the first performance of the Gamehendge saga since July 8, 1994, with Golden and Trey providing the narration and performers acting out the parts of Colonel Forbin, Rutherford, the AC/DC Bag, Tela, Errand Wolfe, and the Sloth. The Multibeast and McGrupp were also performed by puppets. Tela performed acrobatics on wires during her song, with Jo Lampert (as Errand Wolfe) providing additional vocals during Wilson. Colonel Forbin ascended the rhombus during Colonel Forbin’s Ascent, and a large Famous Mockingbird puppet flew over the crowd during Fly Famous Mockingbird, which also featured Annie Golden on additional vocals. Before Melt, Trey asked Jimmy’s grandmother if she knew that the mountain was a volcano, and the Lizards reappeared to dance to the ensuing Melt jam, eventually leaving the stage one by one as the rhombus was lowered again.

^^^^^^^!!!!

Phish just proved that they are greatest live band on the planet again last night at YEMSG.

Last nights' show will probably secure a spot in the top 5 all time ever Phish concerts list.

If you know about GameHenge than you know what a big deal last night was.

I watched/listened to cmiller today. I was thinking how epic the fan base must think this is

Last night's MSG show is playing on JEMP radio now.

I enjoyed watching the fan videos of the MSG show this morning.  They absolutely lose their shit on harpua with no idea of what's to come.   And then it all unfolds in perfect madness.   My 16yo son noted  "I think you have to be on hallucinogenics to fully understand what's going on here"

John Kahn also played this same model bass in JGB

JMF were fantastic on NYE We were so happy that we chose to go at the last minute! What a great time!
