NFL 2026

I like how the Browns are building but we still have a logjam of shitty QBs. I am hoping the 6'6" QB who runs a 4.3 from Arkansas gives us some excitement. Gets kinda tiring watch us waste some very good defenses year after year. Maybe Watson can massage some wins out of the schedule if he plays again. 

New coach, new staff, and a decent draft after we lost some key players to free agency. Anyone got a Center?

The 2025 veteran cheerleaders compete amongst the hopefuls for the 2026 season team during day two of tryouts.

I work with a former 49ers cheerleader and yeah no money at all as a cheerleader she was trying to be a pro dancer and did it for the contacts. I also had a friend who was close friends with the personal assistant for Al Davis. He used to occasionally get to watch games from the Raiders owners box. The thing is he didn't know a thing about football and had no interest in any of it. When I asked him how it was watching the game he told me that he had figured out the signal the cheerleaders used when they needed a bathroom break so an understudy could come in and take their place for a while. That was his entire takeaway on the game.

As a NE fan wondering the same, and wondering how much the TMZ - Vrabel thing will impact the season. Flying under the radar last year was so much fun then that bizarre playoff run. Schedule isn't as bad as the 49ers but we do have a Germany game, followed by a bye followed by a west coast game then back to NE. That travel schedule would kick my ass even if I was just going to watch, but everyone wants that sweet international money so we will only see more of this, and yeah the 49ers got the most screwed on that this year.

It's a long road ahead and only practice, but the Ravens showed some real promise last night in their preseason win over Philly 24-7.

This year we have a whole new coaching staff and some interesting rookies that need to hit the ground running if the team is going to transition from "almost" to "champion."  Onward..... the sky is the limit!

Looks like it's Watson, so the curse will likely continue in Cleveland.

I agree about the starters, the risks are too high to offset the rust removal, but preseason games themselves are vital to exposing the rookies to the speed and ferocity of the NFL and to see which rookies & backups are "gamers". Plus, they help with the rhythm and flow of actual games between the coaches & players.

With so many players once again getting hurt in camp and with the wave of injuries the 49ers have endured the past few seasons that has lead to wild speculation and bizarre theories, I'm reminded of something about Bill Walsh that was considered revolutionary (and insane) at the time but caught on for a while, but seems to have disappeared again; his teams never hit with pads or went 100% full speed in practice.

The traditional argument against that was the NFL is violent by nature and players need to practice angles and tackling, Walsh's argument was that he wanted his team healthy and fresh in December when the games are most important, and his record in December and January was really strong.

Kyle Shanahan is known for pushing the limits of the much more regulated modern NFL practice rules and running full intensity practices in camp and throughout the season. He wants his teams to play with violence and have a bully mentality and reputation, which his teams generally do, but I can't help but wonder if that philosophy has more to do with the injuries than practicing next to an electrical station.

As for Jed, it's good to have good lawyers and I imagine having the charges changed from 'engaging in prostitution' to 'disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools' makes the whole thing go easier on his punishment and reputation.

As for the "what the hell is he doing slumming with cheap whores in a trailer park?!?" question, I'll put on my amateur psychologist hat and and opine that since the only thing billionaires focus on in their lives is accumulating more of something that they already have vast amounts of, there is an empty space that rutting around in the gutter might help to fill.

Fortunately, he's just the owner, so as long as he can still sign the checks this won't affect the team, except as a reminder to stay out of the fucking gutter (literally).

Now, speaking about actual football I'll just post the same thing I did last year at this time... If the 49ers can stay relatively healthy and can generate decent to solid pressure on the QB they will be a hard team to beat. If healthy their biggest issue will be the division they play in, which if all four teams stay healthy will be standing on the head of the rest of the league.

Aaron Donald coming back to the LAmbs to pair with Myles Garrett and all the other talent on that team? Sheesh.

That's the traditional mentality and I think there is some logic to it, but in the past number of years, especially since they went to three preseason games, most starters around the league barely play more than one or two series in preseason overall, and to my untrained eye I don't really see that have much effect on the quality of play when the bullets are real.

The way these guys now train and prepare 365 days a year it doesn't seem most need more than a quarter or the first half of the first game to be ready.

Anyway, the league is so horny to go to an eighteen game season they're going to cut preseason down to two (or one) games soon enough.

Given the speed and violent nature of the modern game it's becoming more & more important for teams to be three or four deep with quality at every position, but naturally there is no consideration given to expanding rosters, practice squads or creating full development squads, so as fans it's more & more important to know the names of every scrub, including the 4th string QB who was working at Costco a week before he faces the Packers at Lambeau Field in December.

But I believe the league when they say it's all about the quality of the game.

Sheduar - makes the same mistakes again and again. He leaves the pocket too early and retreats backwards, He also throws into coverage instead of running or throwing the ball away. He is not an NFL QB and will not be one for long.

Gabriel - He would be awesome in a 6 ft. and under league. He cannot see over the line and he can only dink short passes. 
 

Watson - it's time the owner eats the remaining 86 million dollar shit sandwich that he made and that is still on the plate. Cut the sexual predator. Teams are selling in record amounts, sell the team, recoup the 86 million and a bunch more and take your ass back to Tennessee.

i would cut all three, and let the Rookie from Arkansas who runs like the wind start. Sign a running QB to back him up and wait until next year to get a QB, unless a miracle occurs and the rookie can play. Where the F is Jimmy Garapalo, or Gardner Minshew, I would take any of these bums that sit the benches over the three we have. For Christ sake I would even welcome Carson Wench

A shame about the QB situation in Cleveland fabes. It seems they otherwise have lots of young talent on both sides of the ball, but without a good QB none of that matters, and it's tough to find good ones.

Here's one possibility... the 49ers actually have three good QBs in Purdy, Mac Jones and the second year guy Kurtis Rourke looking good.

Mac Jones, who had early success in New England but then struggled his second year, improved in Jacksonville and then played really well in eight games last year with the 49ers. He now looks very much like another QB who struggled at the beginning of his career and was immediately written off as a bust, guys like Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones (and dare I say Baker Mayfield?) but who has now figured it out.

He'll be a free agent after this season so the 49ers were mildly shopping him before the draft and once the season starts, if Purdy stays healthy and Rourke continues to look good they will definitely listen to offers for Jones before the trade deadline. He is smart, tough and accurate, and while he's not very mobile he looks like a winning QB who wouldn't cost a fortune in a trade and could hit the ground running with a talented team.

Given the nature of injuries I don't want the 49ers to trade him, but if I was a Browns fan I'd definitely take him over those others guys you mentioned and also five or six current starting QBs now.

Anyway, it sucks to root for a team that doesn't have a good QB, so good luck with that.

I know -  it's only the pre-season -- when hope springs eternal. Still it's heartening to see Snoop Jr and Lil Too Short are already onboard with the Ravens this year, celebrating their 13-3 win over the Vikings. More importantly, despite the Straight of Hormez situation, tankerloads of Botox are apparently still sailing into the port of Baltimore. Which is good, as we have a long season to go.

At this stage, it looks like we might have a noteworthy defense. Unfortunately the offense may sputter due to a combo of aging vets and untested newbies. As always, lack of injuries is key. Unfortunately, we already lost a prospective Center. If we can still stitch together a decent Offensive line, we have potential.

Well (with one exception) this team is ready for primetime. Bring it on!

Ravens go undefeated in their preseason as they steamroller the Washington Commanders 41-3. Their biggest concern now is having too many good players for the final 53 man roster. Our Defense is stacked. Hell, even our third string quarterback seems capable of pro-caliber play.  Sure we have some other weaknesses (our wide receiver depth and O line), but the new (first time) head coach and his staff have definitely instilled a promising, positive attitude in their players. However, our kicker, who choked in the final game last year, has never recovered his mojo -- which is very worrisome.

Still, I will be overly optimistic and predict a 12 and 5 season into the playoffs. As always, if Lamar shines, the sky is the limit.

Looking forward to the rematch tonight. We'll see what the addition of AJ Brown will do for Drake May. Also glad to see they made Christian Gonzales the richest CB in the league. We'll see if last year was a fluke. That is certainly what the pundit class thinks but the Patriots hate runs deep in America.

Oooof that was a horrible start for the Pats. Drake Maybe all the way and AJ Brown going down. Also you can really tell these first weeks games with the new pre season is basically pre season that counts.

Who can tell me:  The PI that set up the Pat's TD was on a flea-flicker that was WAY underthrown.  I was thinking a good throw gets a TD, but it was SO short, and then PI takes it to the one.  Did Maye underthrow on purpose?  I hate it when an offense has no production, then advances half the field on some cheap PI.  Ugly start to the game.

Usually you can blame the team but this one is on him. Hope he can bounce back. A lot of times these young guys where everything goes right at first never get it back after the first adversity. They have a three games over the next five weeks that they should absolutely win so we will see. 

You're a Seahawks fan and you say the ending was "fairly exciting"? You must have been on quaaludes.

And it's a fair point to say that Maye was up against the best D in the NFL, which the 'hawks most definitely are (with a potential nod to the LAmbs, but we haven't seen that group play yet) but that final play was a pure brainfreeze wanker. No excuse except he's still young is acceptable; they had the tie in the bag and he just threw it up for grabs.

It's just one play and it's crazy out there, but that type of play in those situations can be a tell. Maye IS still young and he's a fine player, but even though I don't like to make these type of fan/blanket comparisons, would Brady have thrown that pass? Would Manning? Would Montana? Would Stafford or Rogers?

Then again, in his early years as a starter Steve Young would definitely have thrown that pass, and did, but he grew past the tendency to overamp/brainfreeze in those situations, so of course there's still hope for Maye, but that was a gut punch, and he didn't play well in the Super Bowl either.  Fair or not, QBs are graded on a very tough curve.

As for the underthrown pass, I think QBs often do that on purpose, but it didn't look like Maye did it on that play. In every way the rules set up cornerbacks to fail, and that situation is one of the most unfair; I'm really surprised teams don't try that at least once on every possession.

Overall it was a good game, and considering that these days no starters play much or at all in the preseason it's not surprising it was a defensive slog with lots of penalties. I expect tonight's game to have similar issues, with the Australian travel nonsense adding to it.

Ultimately, win or lose I'm just hoping the 49ers come home healthy.

But then I hope I'll win the lottery too.

I heard that was Maye's 5th. sub-par game in a row, 2 vs Seahawks. 
 

The Patriots did him no favor in signing Romeo Doubts. I didn't think their receiving room could go nowhere except up from last year,  but it looks like they took a big step backwards. Dink City. Its only one game but I'm picking up Hollis in fantasy, he looks like the new number one to me.

There are a shit ton of things wrong with the current NFL, but the players, coaching and quality of play are better than they've ever been.

Is officiating bad and too involved in today's game? No question, but us 49ers fans are still complaining about a bogus defensive holding call at the end of the 1983 Championship Game that cost them a trip to the Super Bowl, and we still yowl about a phantom PI call at the end of a game in 1984 that cost them a perfect season. If you were sitting near me at Candlestick 40 years ago you would have heard a bellowing "REFEREES SUCK!!!" multiple times a game.

It's nothing new.

The variety of bullshit and bottomless greed that comes from the owners and out of the NFL offices is annoying on multiple levels and most of the modern stadiums they play in are generic shopping malls, but when those players run onto the field they are fucking elite, better than football players have ever been, and they are amazing to watch.

I think the way games are presented on TV and in person, along with the endless 24/7 media driven analysis and debating have changed the perception of the NFL, but the games and the players who play them are still brilliant.

After that infamous ref robbery in 1983 my friend and I designed and had this shirt made and we sold them in the Candlestick lot the next season. The only time I ever shilled merch "on lot". We made a couple of bucks on it too.

I have a hard time watching football it averages only 11 minutes of actual play 4 seconds per play 17 minutes of replay 75 minutes  watching players, coaches, and referees essentially loiter on the field. 20 add breaks with over 100 adds. 3 hrs 12 min later and only 11 Minn of actual football

DVR is your friend.  I can watch a full game REALLY fast.  I can hit the 30 second advance with each stoppage of play, and the vast majority of the time (no hurry up offense) the seconds will be ticking down for the next snap.  Fast forward timeouts, commercials, halftime.

Spoilers can be an issue with any recorded sporting event.  But in general, as with other live TV, we're always at least somewhat "behind" so we can forward commercials.  Inabilitiy to do that is the biggest drawback to streaming, and how they get you to "pay up deadbeat" for premium, commercial-free subscriptions.

I did watch tonight's game at close to real time, because I was invested.  But the "down time" can contain content of value.  I definitely want to see slo-mo and different angle replays of important plays.

What a game tonight!  Sure exceeded my expectations.

Watching games from behind on "tape" is definitely a way to go, but while it's old school, try to actually go to a game and watch it live. It'll blow your mind.

I'm not sure the Rams took all this Game One/heavy travel nonsense that seriously. We'll see how they are going forward..... are they overconfident? Or are they a December, January juggernaut?

We will see. It's a long season.

i don't need to fast forward I can read the box score and tell just about everything that happened in a game. I like using it in fantasy to see the upticks in targets players are getting. Highlights don't tell the whole story

Great win for SF but just a bone headed mistake to fly out the day before for the Rams. It would be one thing to punt a game but not against a division rival in a stacked division. They started believing all the super team talk.
