NFL Football 2020

Forums:

I don't know about you, but I could use a diversion.

Sports seems so inconsequential compared to pandemic and politics, and it's going to be weird without fans in the stands, but there's nothing like watching some controlled violence in the guise of athletic competition between different geographic areas --- it brings people together (mostly drunk people, but hey).

Of course, my money is on the Ravens (entering this season with a hungry team, a decent draft and no serious injuries).

The Ravens will be good for sure.

There are lots of interesting story lines around the league this year, and with no/few fans in the stands it will be interesting to see how that affects the games.

I think the play will be sloppy at first, with no pre-season games and shortened/limited preparation overall, but I am expecting the play to get sharper once the players acclimate, and without the ROARING home fans making life hell for road teams I expect things will be much more equal and the quality of play to get really good around the league by the third or fourth week.

As for my 49ers, I'm seriously bummed not to be able to go to the games this year. They were damn good & damn fun to watch last year, and that should continue this season. I was really looking forward to getting back to it this year, it sucks to not get to go when they've finally built up such a fun team.

Will they go 13 - 3 again? Probably not, especially in their division, but they're still really good, with solid depth at almost every position, so just like this time last season I'm figuring they go somewhere between 10 - 6/12 - 4. That should make for another fun season and a chance for another run at the Big Game, and that's all any fan can realistically hope for.

Now, can these teams keep the plague away?

That's the real question, but the NFL has unlimited resources, and so far the teams have had very few issues with The Crud, and they'll all be in a more consistent, controlled environment now that cuts have been made and the season is on. We will see.

So, FUCK COVID, and...

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Parking lot at Levi's?

Brett Favre won't allow his own child to play football.

Brett Favre is afraid of a few steroids, growth hormones and newly concocted performance enhancers in his kid's bloodstream?  Pansy....

[They didn't ask questions. If something hurt, NFL players simply stepped in line behind dozens of others waiting for the same drug. One by one, for years, players have taken a shot of Toradol to the rear or swallowed the drug in pill form to play football on Sunday. The game-day ritual was commonplace, but not without consequence.

"I've hurt myself," one veteran AFC offensive lineman tells B/R Mag, "and they'd be shoving pills in my mouth while they're taping my ankle—that was the culture. The culture was, 'We're going to play no matter what. You might as well make yourself comfortable.'"]

https://thelab.bleacherreport.com/nfl-toradol-use-players-survey/

(didja ever read those stories about football in the 60 and 70s when they used to shoot an injured football player full of speed and painkillers and send him right back in the game?)

I suppose you could call me Captain Obvious that TB Buc's fans are excited to see what Brady/Gronk have left, after being added to an already solid offense. And, yes, the Super Bowl is in Tampa this year to add to the intrigue.

PS The Rays and Lightning are kickin' ass currently, I might add. Thank God for live sports!

Not a snap has been taken and my fantasy team already sucks. I just know it.

I'll root for any damm distraction from the insanity.

Rays rolling, over a depleted division.  Break a leg brady, or a neck.

Go underdogs !!

20200908_100254.jpg

Can Brees bring a hall of fame caliber performance one more year?

Now or never, except that one time...

Who Dat?

I haven't thought about Underdog in years... and his gal Sweet Poly Purebred? thanks for the memory jolt

>>> Not a snap has been taken and my fantasy team already sucks. I just know it.

Who'd you pick? We had our draft Sunday night. I'm fairly happy. But I regretted picking Amari Cooper in the mid-4th round as soon as I said his name. Wish I could redo that.

QB-K. Murray/Brees
RB-Derrick Henry, Kenyan Drake, Phillip Lindsay, Antonio Gibson, Boston Scott, Bryce Love
WR-Chris Godwin, Amari Cooper, Stefon Diggs, Jarvis Landry
TE-Darren Waller
D-Ravens and Eagles

My receivers worry me a little. Cooper no-shows a lot, has a fucked-up foot and the Cowboys drafted a good WR. And not sure how Brady affects Godwin's value.

Looking forward to cranking up my DraftKings app for the first time in months. I put more effort into daily lineups than my season-long team.

It's going to be a strange season

Cam.png

Cam looks like he's burning some 29% medical.

>>>Cam looks like he's burning some 29% medical.

That is probably the only way he gets his body to work these days.

Vegas Baby! VEGAS!
Just Win Baby!

But I regretted picking Amari Cooper in the mid-4th round as soon as I said his name. <<<

I've had Cooper 2x and he will drive you batty. A huge game here and there, and other weekends almost completely silent. Similar in nature to DeSean Jackson but with less anti-semitism.

Tua time! Well by The Jacksonville game hopefully.

I had a draft Sunday am very happy w my team somehow I got Kamara, Julio & Tyreek(all top 15 adp talent) along w Godwin, Ingram II,  Akers, Singletary, Brown, Hurst handcuffed Alvin w Murray and Matt Ryan w Koo as my K and Philly D (I stream my D week to week though) . It's a Falconcentric team but I am good w that.

Tonight is the Auction draft league draft those are a hoot! Scrubs and studs.

>>>Vegas Baby! VEGAS!<<<

Their offense has a lot of talent, their defense will tell their tale.

And the Raiders are really getting screwed by the COVID mess. That new place of theirs looks pretty cool and would have been rocking pretty good their first year there. They announced that the entire venue had sold out, which I found suspect until I figured that the casinos likely bought up big chucks of the place to use as perks.

I've been really interested in what the atmosphere at the Vegas Raiders games would be like. I was thinking that with locals who bought in along with Oakland fans traveling and probably lots of ex-pat LA Raiders fans getting back to the games (and that crowd was "lively"!) there would also be lots of away fans at every game, as traveling to Vegas for a weekend is always fun, which would have made the games really "lively", but I also thought there might be lots of lookie-lou's coming with casino tickets, not really fans of either team, much like a Super Bowl.

I've always gone to one or two Oakland Raiders games a year, and as a newly retired gentleman of leisure I was looking forward to doing one or two games this year and seeing the atmosphere first hand. That will just have to be one more thing to keep looking forward to.

So, will anyone have an answer for Mahomes?

Will Mike McCarthy be the one to take the talented Cowboys back to the Big Game, or will Jerry Jones & his ego get in his own way again?

The Saints are loaded, can Brees get to the finish line one more time?

Brady is the GOAT and finally has a full group of great receivers, and the Bucs are talented overall, can HE make it to the finish line one more time?

The Packers are talented, can Aaron Rodgers make it to the finish line again?

The Patriots are the Patriots. Can Cam Newton make it to the finish line? Not as much talent around him and he's not Brady, but he knows how to compete & win and the Pats are never easy to beat.

Are the Bills really for real?

Can the Bungals finally become the Bengals again?

And on & on.

There are so many things to dislike about the NFL and football in general, but god damn it's a great game.

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brady vs. Brees will be 2 deservedly hyped-up games by The NFL, with the 1st meeting this Sunday. National TV audiences will get their fair share of Brady/Gronk this year, too, that's fer' sher'.

TV ratings, baby!

Answer for Maholmes = Meat Wagon

The dude is pretty amazeballs but he takes a lot of chances, it's gunna catch up to him.

Definitely going to head out next year probably for Chefs or Buncos

Curious how long the season lasts.....

Brady who? I get to wallow in the past for a couple more days...let's just remember:

The 2019 Ravens finished the regular season with 3,296 rushing yards, the most by any team in NFL history during a season.

The 14 -2 Ravens became the first team in NFL history to average at least 200 passing yards and 200 rushing yards per game in the same season.

The Ravens outscored their opponents by 249 points, the highest point differential in the NFL in 2019.

Jackson amassed 1,206 rushing yards in 2019, the most yards for a quarterback in a single season in NFL history.

Jackson led the NFL with 36 touchdown passes in 2019, three more than Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston. Jackson threw for a touchdown on 9% of his pass attempts in 2019, the highest rate in the NFL

Jackson is the only quarterback in NFL history with 3,000-plus passing yards and 1,000-plus rushing yards in the same season. He is also the only player in NFL history with 1,000-plus rushing yards and 30-plus touchdowns in a single season.

All that is true Alan, and that fine regular season put them in very good position for a rematch with the 49ers.

But then Jackson & the team laid that massive egg in the playoff game.

Oof!

A team's last game is their lasting image, so matter what the Ravens do this season they'll have to overcome that hooorrible performance.

The final six minutes of the 49ers last game is what they'll have to overcome.

Cream tends to rise and I think both teams will be right in the mix, but damn it can go bad fast.

GN!

^ Agree totally. I'm a realist, but an optimist. The only good thing to come out of it is that the Ravens will play with a chip on their shoulder right out of the gate.

But those ARE some impressive stats. And this year, the team looks to have more depth -- which could be essential if injuries increase due to the whacky pre-season.

Personally, I'm rooting for a SF / Balto Superbowl.

3a6645aedcec811b0deb108bbc7351c4_3.png

Some cool stat's, Alan, but as a former Buffalonian, I can tell you that the Kelly-era Bills put up some amazing number's back then, too. You know where I'm going...

oh, and one added benefit this year -- in a town like Balto (and probably many other NFL cities) a halfway good football team is one thing that can bring the populace together for a few days a week. Black, white, young,old....we're all purple til at least December.

2695c8c5dafb9a5cccd69608454eca61.jpg

It's good that people love their team, but is there still any undercover love for the Colts in Baltimore?

(The Colts have a much cooler name & uniforms)

Da Bears!

^ Lance, I don't remember many details about the early 80s, but I do remember this:

"On March 28, 1984, Bob Irsay, owner of the once-mighty Baltimore Colts, moves the team to Indianapolis. Without any sort of public announcement, Irsay hired movers to pack up the team's offices in Owings Mills, Maryland, in the middle of the night, while the city of Baltimore slept."

Guys like my dad, who had season tickets at Memorial Stadium since forever (the Johnny Unitas era), were devastated. The whole City was livid -- anyone named Irsay still better stay away from Baltimore. I hope his son chokes on that guitar.

Luckily, I moved to San Francisco later that year in time to catch Joe Montana and Candlestick. And stayed around the Bay area for 25 years. So I have two "home" teams to root for. But I still would take the Ravens in a Coast-vs-Coast matchup. Bring it on.

This opening the season by playing a rivals in your division is terrible for the nfl. Division games should not start until 3 games into the season, and the final games of the season also need to be divisional.

that being said

Alan, I think my Brown take one from the Ravens this year, and both Steeler games, see you again in the playoffs.

Fuck Art Modell - Kadaffi style

And lance there is no love in this Browns fan for the Ravens, no celebrating their super bowl win.

i do love and respect Ozzie Newsome though. He and Harbaugh have down some great things in Baltimore, shows you too what sticking with a good coach can do for a team.

This opening the season by playing a rivals in your division is terrible for the nfl. Division games should not start until 3 games into the season, and the final games of the season also need to be divisional.<<<

That is true. Opening in-division is a little too much too soon. Ease into it.

Chiefs?    Nice racist showing.  Jfc. Embarrassing

Be choosy how you dress today... you may have to wear the same lucky outfit every week until December

(Hey this is a politics \ current events \ disaster free thread yo -- unless the disaster is a injury to your QB)

Chiefs?    Nice racist showing.  Jfc. Embarrassing <<<

I think many people are just tired of mass politicization. It's seeped into almost everything at this point and tough to avoid. They want to escape for a few hours without social commentary. Not sure how many Chiefs fans fall into this category but pretty sure it was at least part of the boo-equation.

>>I think many people are just tired of mass politicization.

that's people who consider calls for social justice "politicization" but are good with giant flags and military flyovers and worship our heroic troops.

With the Chief's having already played, today is all about Brady vs. Brees IN a division match-up.  And Gronk back in The NFL for more splash (and ratings). So plan on seeing more TB in prime-time than you ever dreamed possible.

I'll be feverishly bouncing back and forth with the Lightning playing at 3. (Yes, I'm sure I have picture-in-picture, but no-clue how to pull it up).

>>>>Be choosy how you dress today...

I got three hats to wear today. FDNY, Green Bay Packers, and the NY Islanders. I just put all three on on top of each other and it's not a good look. What to do? What to do?

Earl, looks like we have a series. Pivotal game today, fer sure.

70% of the NFL is African American, seems to reason they support social justice, that and the fact that out uniform they get pulled over like the common man.

Go Bills!

Defense starts game by forcing a turnover. Ravens' offense first possession ...touch down!!  Auspicious.

Everybody have fun today. We can still  smoke, drink and eat snacks!

Jets losing 21 - 0 in the first half.
Another season has begun. Yippee!

Let's go J - E - T - S -!

smiley

heard the knuckle draggers were all kinds of butt hurt by the BLM stuff and booed. Not surprising at all.

Middle America. More votes for the decent folk.

Most of the early games pretty predictable, with a couple of notable exceptions.

The Football Team looking like they're going to beat the Eagles. I don't think anyone saw that coming. Side note - despite that name being a Fuck You from the evil bastard Snyder, that name is kind of funny and is starting to grow on me.

The Jaguars beating the Colts is a surprise, but then I've always thought that Rivers is an over-rated bum.

Raiders win a nice game. That offense is going to be good.

I'm nervous about my 49ers. It's hard to replicate the success they had last year. We'll see soon enough.

Despite all the BS and everything that's wrong with the NFL, professional football is such a damn great game.

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ravens win.... final score 38 - 6. All the parts were there. Rookies did great. Expectations are high.

Not a fan of piped in crowd noise. Lame as a laugh track.

Tom Brady ___ What A Tool and a Clown - Yep

Brady n Trump _______ Florida ______FUCK Off Ya _______TOOLS.

Yeah, the crowd noise is the worst. Fortunately I always turn off the sound anyway.

They should just do it like baseball, where at least the phony noise we hear is what's piped into the stadium, but for football the sounds are manipulated from the studio, just like a laugh track.

Amazing how many ways the suits can get things wrong.

WFT 1 and 0 and Chase Young is gonna be a problem for the nfc east for years to come

today was a good day

Seahawks win the super bowl this year. I've got $50 on it if anyone disagrees and wants to bet?

down go the nfc champions.  cardinals look legit

Baltimore Ravens 33 Houston Texans 16

Ravens took the the lead and kept it.  Tucker kicked 4 field goals to keep the Ravens out of trouble.

Next....

Bears are 2-0 but not feeling too confident over here.

Russel Westbrook - best NFL quarter back

I don't really follow the Bears at this point in the year, but 2 and 0 is 2 and 0!

Keep me posted.

A devastating win for the 49ers.

Multiple injuries, but Nick Bosa is irreplaceable.

They'll keep playing hard, likely winning more than they lose because they're a very good team, but Bosa is their best player, and more importantly he is irreplaceable at the 2nd most important position for a championship team.

Injuries are a central part of the NFL and every team has to deal with them. Last season injuries hurt the 49ers big-time, but they weathered them.

But without Bosa?

Trouble.

BIG trouble for my 49ers.

Fuck 'em all...

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Bills, top passer and top receiver after 2 games, who would have thunk that!

chargers rookie qb looked good. couple of bad mistakes but impressive overall.

they still choke(d) every damn time.

wish phillip r success

Next Monday Baltimore v Kansas City will be interesting. Have to say Baltimore looks like the best team right now.

Even though the Patriots lost I'm happy they look competitive against one the best teams. If Cam can stay healthy and with $36M in cap space they could be a playoff contender.

Surprised that it has been very Covid free season so far.

>>>  chargers rookie qb looked good. couple of bad mistakes but impressive overall.   they still choke(d) every damn time.

they were hurt by a non-call of unsportsmanlike conduct after T. Hill took his helmet off in the end zone after a touchdown.

that would have been a 15 yard penalty added to the extra point. they probably wouldn't have gone for 2 to tie the game.

that means they'd have needed a touchdown at the end of the 4th quarter to win it.

yeah, they should've won by a point...

i don't really like that rule so whatever.

the prevent D or wtf it is they do at end of games is retarded.

The NFL has been great so far. Yay for humanity.

>>>  chargers rookie qb looked good. couple of bad mistakes but impressive overall.   they still choke(d) every damn time.

they were hurt by a non-call of unsportsmanlike conduct after T. Hill took his helmet off in the end zone after a touchdown.

I knew it was over when the rookie quarterback decided to throw a goose for an interception, instead of running the easy 2 yards for a first down within field goal range. The nfl ain't college. Hope he learns from his mistake. He was fun to watch.

The Chargers look competitive, but what's the deal with Taylor? They thought he was having a heart attack or something?

The rookie did look good, but he's a green rookie while Taylor is a solid veteran player, and it looks to me that in a relatively weak division, if he's playing the Chargers will be interesting.

The 49ers seem cursed. They're not the only team besieged by injuries, but along with taking multiple serious injuries, things in general are weird with them right now. They were ready to leave San Jose on Friday for New York when a maintenance vehicle of some kind smashed into their plane and damaged it, so they had to find a different ride, which got them to the east coast in the middle of the night.

Then after yesterday's game they had six or seven players that needed MRI's and they're staying at some swanky resort back east because they're playing in New York again next week, so they ordered up a mobile MRI truck to meet them at their place, and the truck broke down.

Maybe it's good I can't go to the games this year. It doesn't seem very healthy to be around them right now.

Lance - what as the matter with the grass yesterday? (in the stadium) Too wet or something?

Apparently it's brand new fake turf in that Jets/Giants stadium.

The 49ers are whining pretty hard about how "sticky" & "spongy" it was, and the Jets took some injuries as well, but the Steelers & Giants didn't complain about it the week before.

The 49ers took their beef to the league, mainly because they have to play in the same place next week, and the league will have people checking it out, but what does anyone really think will happen?

Whatever the deal is with the field, injured is injured, and IMO it's a league-wide epidemic nowadays.

Right now the 49ers just seem to be like 80-year-olds exposed to COVID.

Why they had  to install fake turf in that stadium when it was built is beyond me - WTF  ??

They are even putting real grass in INDOOR stadiums now.

Bring back 3 yards and a cloud of dust.....      ( and mud).

Get that west coast grass vs east coast grass outta hear, constantly with the west coast grass bs.

Needles to say my sleeper of picking up Emanuel Sanders on my fantasy teams was a hella bad move now in hindsight

Some of these lines seem crazy to me.

Raiders +6.5 over Patriots in NE. I know the stadium will be empty but still a west coast team flying to the east coast.

Giants +4.5 over 49ers

Jets +10.5 over Colts just because Jets +10.5 over anyone seems crazy.

Packers only +3 over the Saints

Chiefs +3.5 over Ravens

These NFL teams are headed into Week 3 undefeated:

Las Vegas Raiders ∙
Baltimore Ravens ∙
Pittsburgh Steelers ∙
Tennessee Titans ∙
Kansas City Chiefs ∙
Green Bay Packers ∙
Chicago Bears ∙
Arizona Cardinals ∙
Los Angeles Rams ∙
Seattle Seahawks ∙
Buffalo Bills

Monday Night Football:  Ravens vs Chiefs - We are getting pretty excited about this matchup. If the Balto defense can consistently pressure Mahomes and the Balto offensive line can hold, it should be a great game.

Buffalo Bills still undefeated, but you can add the rams to once beaten.

go Bills

I loved the fake booing piped into their home stadium after the Giants failed on a 4th-&-1.

I suppose it's possible that it was played for the refs and their spot of the ball, but it had me thinking there were fans in the stands for a moment.

In the NFC Seattle looks like Seattle, ALWAYS so tough to beat, and Green Bay looks real good. If those two defenses can rise up and their QBs stay healthy they'll be right there at the end.

Even though they lost today, Arizona is rising fast, and the LAmbs are really good again. It sure looked like they got jobbed by the refs at the end of their game. What's new.

And the Bears? They have a good defense, which always gets overlooked in the offense-obsessed NFL, and now they have a decent QB playing. They'll be interesting to watch going forward.

The 49ers are still a very good, very deep team, and if they can get maybe just 10 - 12 of their starters back (that sounds like an exaggeration, but they played today without 11 of their 22 starters) they should compete for the playoffs again, but Bosa is a brutal, irreplaceable loss and even if they get healthy it's going to be a tough road for them in their division.

The AFC has some really interesting stories as well. The season is shaping up to be really fun all around the league. I hope they can keep the plague at bay and get through the whole thing. So far, so good.

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Eagles are buying up tennis ball machines to fire trash onto the field at random intervals.

It's on the internet.

Now.

If you need some diversion from fires, politics, and the pandemic: tonight 8:15 EST

"The upcoming showdown with Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson features two of the best players in the NFL, both still learning and coming into their own, both with accomplishments and accolades piled high in their houses, both who consistently put up MVP performances. "

I think the effectiveness of the pass rush on both sides will steer the outcome. Which sounds boring, as there will certainly be some big plays downfield. With all the flash and hype, it could come down to defense and the kicking game. Baltimore by 3.

And I hope both teams walk away injury-free -- the season is young.

newFile.jpg

3-0

(((Foles)))

smh

Oh hi, brian d.  Welcome to NFL talk.  Who is your team?

Foles definitely looked good out there. Congratulations. Let's see if they stick with him against the Colts next week.

As always my picks are perfect when I don't put money down. Whole different story anytime I actual add money to the equation

Go Bears!

That was embarrassing. I wasted a lot of good weed on the that game. I take full responsibility for the loss because I didn't wear my hat.

I get the Chiefs / Mahomes thing now. Good team / really good qbk.

Mahomes is really good, but so is Andy Reid, and maybe just as important, the Chiefs defense seemed to find something in the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl that they're continuing to use.

Still, just one game, and for the good of the league it's good to see that even the Great & Glorious Lamar Jackson still has room to grow. Not quite perfect tonight.

So, right now, maybe the endlessly annoying Russell Wilson moves into the early MVP lead?

But even with a few undefeated teams, right now NO team is Just Exactly Perfect.

BTW, I'm pretty much sick of Russell Wilson & the damned Seahags.

Can't SOMEbody SMASH that guy???

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!

one could argue the best third string in the league (ever?)

Here we go 8 positive tests for the Titans. NFL isn't like MLB. It's going to be interesting to see if they can manage missed games for covid along with all the other day to day injuries they deal with.

know its baseball but rocco baldelli just mentioned the GD and phish on my tv

Fucking Eagles.

At least Lamar will keep me interested in the rest of the season.

49ers with another bad loss against a midland NFC team.  those losses pile up when you play in Russell Wilson's division.

I dont think either team tonight is very good actually.  the 49er defense is totally different without Bosa and HC Shanny Jr loves him some passing, even when Nate fucking Mullens is the one doing the passing.  terrible game plan from Shanny Jr and a earned loss all around by the home team

Ravens beat Washington Red Football Team by 2 TDs.  But in all honesty, they only look like a playoff-caliber team when they are playing average or bad opponents.

Lamar had a nice 50-yard touchdown run, but most of the game he was busy avoiding being sacked and didn't have a rhythm going until the second half. Our offensive line didn't gel until then.

And the defense still can't seem to sack the opposing qb. One highlight this year is our seldom-noticed special teams ---- very solid.

But the Ravens are going to have to improve all around if they are going to beat the best teams.

TB12 getting comfy with 1st place TB... OJ Howard out for season should make for more Gronk targets.

Bills 4-0. Get offa' my cloud.

Came in to post when was time the Bills started off 4-0?

The 1-2-1 Eagles win puts them in the driver's seat of the NFC Least with the Cowboys and my Washington Nameless hot on their heels at 1-3.

The Seahawks and Packers aside, the AFC appears to be the far superior conference this year.

The 49ers are most definitely different without Bosa, who is one of the best players in the league, and missing him along with Dee Ford changes the way they approach everything.

Of course it doesn't help when they're also missing other key defensive players and are starting their 3rd & 4th string cornerbacks.

On offense it was surprising to see how bad Mullens was, he has never been that bad before, and that is what really sunk them. It's not surprising to see comments about "too much passing/bad play calling" from the cheap seats today, especially when they're also playing with their 3rd string running back and other than a few reverses their runs were stuffed all game.

Their game plan was fine, their execution of it was not, and of course despite how many fans love to think it's all like a video game, it's the NFL so it's never easy.

They laid an egg for sure, every team usually does, but they're in the toughest division in the league and their schedule is about to get much tougher, so their holes are going to be exploited and the 49ers are in trouble.

After Bosa got hurt I was thinking 9-7/10-6 and squeezing into a wildcard, but now with two losses already it's likely to be closer to 7-9/8-8; 9-7 would be a surprise now. It will likely be a long, tough season for the Niners and the haters will leap on that wagon, but their core is strong, their organization is strong, they'll keep fighting and they'll definitely be right in the middle of it again next year no matter how it goes this year.

Overall though the league is interesting, with some teams looking good, some looking great and a couple of surprise teams fighting early on. It's fun to see the perennial doormat Bills looking good, and the Raiders are close as well. In the end, as always the teams with the strongest defenses will rise and go farthest, but if they can keep the COVID at bay it should continue to be a fun season.

Fuck 'em all...

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Seahawks are better then all your pansy teams. 4-0 with the best quarterback in the league.  Wilson has always been a little too perfect and annoying for me, but have to admit that he is in the prime of his career and on the road to MVP.

That kid in San Diego played well again. Fun to watch.

My season was over before it began, Giants are roadkill

Did the Bears blow their cover last week?
Will the real Bears please play football tonight!
At least Big Ten football is here soon!

Foles is Brady's kryptonite.

Bears are livin right this year. Brady forgets what down it is...

4-1. Wow.

We'll take it!

Foles turns into Joe Montana for a night. Oy.

Well, the centerpiece of the  3 and 1 Raven's offense (Lamar) missed two days of practice this week due to some mystery illnesses (stomach / knee), which is very unusual.

We should roll over Cincinnati, but they also have a young QB who's looking pretty sharp.

They were calling for rain all day in Baltimore, which could mke things a little unpredictable, but the clouds are holding.

So we are looking for a pretty good game. I'm thinking the Ravens by 3 TD after some ups and downs.

Just please, no major injuries. Go Ravens!

"It doesn't get easier for a rookie quarterback dealing with wet balls." CBS

17 - 0 at half, just started raining

Ravens defense shut down Cincinnati 's Joe Burrow  27 - 3 (with the 3 coming in the last minute). Now 4 and 1.

Looks like Dak Prescott is out for the year with a broken ankle.

Football is a brutal sport.

Which is what makes it so compelling to watch.

And how about Alex Smith?

They're going to make a movie about that guy some day.

Atta' boy Alex.

I know I sit in the cheap seats but I think I may just know a thing or two about shanny jr and his team.

they both stink on ice right now.

from the cheap seats of course.  lance, tell me how it looks from your point of view?

The 49ers season was over the minute they lost Bosa & Dee Ford.

Things have gone from bad to worse because of all the other injuries.

Today they again played without their two top pass rushers and were missing five Dlinemen in all, and were also without all three of their starting cornerbacks as well as two backup corners.

They played with a 4th stringer & two guys off the practice squad at CB today, with no good pass rush. That is ALWAYS going to be disaster in today's NFL, and I honestly was expecting something like this on defense.

On offense, their Oline is struggling to pass protect. That was the one real question going into the season and was going to be an issue if they had been able to stay in the playoff hunt, so really the only truly surprising thing about today is how bad Garoppolo played.

He was getting blasted, and they're saying that his ankle was affecting him, but man he was bad today... FAR worse than he's ever been.

He's making big money and he's got big pressure on him to perform, and if he doesn't play better there could be real trouble there, but still, even if JimmyG was playing well, when a team can't generate a pass rush, cover receivers or protect the QB that team is going to lose more often than win.

They should get their quality CBs back which will allow the defense to be competitive again, the pass protection can be manipulated and with that JG has to play better, but these early losses, their inability to pressure/sack the QB along with the 49ers upcoming schedule means they're in big trouble now.

But to say that "they stink?"

Well yeah, they stunk today and they may well end up with a losing record this season, but Shanahan doesn't stink. His team is dealing with multiple issues, but the team don't stink either, they're just in hell at the moment.

On it goes.

Anyone have contact info for Key?  I would like to ask how he feels about the Jets being 0-6.

Ravens 5 and 1 but the offense looked like a high school team. 12 penalties?!  Lamar was playing no where near MVP caliber -- occasionally he was very impressive, but no consistency -- Defense won the game for them.

Go Niners!  24-16 over LA.

Keyshawn doesn't want to talk with any of us/I mean, YOU PEOPLE!

And a very nice win by the 49ers. They played super conservative, but with their backs to the wall they played with desire, and I for one was rather shocked at how bad the LAmbs played, but the Niners pushed them and a win is a win.

At this point no team in the league looks like a no-brainer. The Seahags are good, but their defense is suspect and if Wilson gets hurt they don't win another game.

It should be interesting.

from the cheap seats, I love the 49ers this week getting 3.  not impressed with Seattle's defense this season and I expect the 49ers to run the ball well and win outright

also love the  Vikings plus the 6.5.  that line is way too low and vegas is begging folks to take the Pack

"From the Cheap Seats" would be a good name for a sports blog.

And I'd like to be as confident as you drkstar, but the 49ers have been hot & cold this year. Even at the 49ers best, Seattle & that little fucker Wilson, who's playing out of his mind right now, have been a rock in the 49ers cleats for a long time.

If the 49ers can cover Seattle's receivers, and their offense (and Garoppolo) play really well they have a solid chance, but even against the Seahags leaky defense it will be difficult without Deebo Samuel & Raheem Mostert.

The 'hags are going to be uber-motivated for this one, and they have a way of winning even when they're being beaten, so I'm prepared to be doing a bit of screaming at my TV and freaking out my neighbors this Sunday. It should be a good game that could well be decided on one mistake (or ticky-tack penalty) here or there.

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like that for a podcast or a blog, Lance.  good call.

my message to Shanny Jr is run the damn football and get Mr Dreamboat out on boots and play action stuff.  if JG throws less then 30 passes the game is perfect for the 49ers.  truth be told, my deal with Shanny Jr is he should be coaching the team in DC now if the owner did not suck ass (I digress) and I am envious that my new home team has my first home team's heir apparent top tier HC and I really do like and respect Kyle's chops

The O/U for the SF/SEA game is 54, the highest one on the slate. Should be a fun game. I've adopted the Seahawks as my favorite team this year since the Bears suck balls. How can you not like Russell Wilson?

BTW has anyone told Jerry Jones that Colin Kaepernick is available? HaHa!

>>>How can you not like Russell Wilson<<<

I HATE that son of a bitch!!!

But he's so good, I can't help but like him.

Still...

Beat the 'Hags!!!

GO NINERS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't wait until tomorrow....

"The Steelers (6-0) are the lone unbeaten team in the league and hold a one-game lead over the Ravens (5-1) in the AFC North. If the Ravens win, they take over first place. But if they lose, they trail the Steelers by two games, which in effect would be three games by virtue of Pittsburgh's head-to-head victory.

Moreover, before the Ravens and Steelers meet in a rematch on Thanksgiving night, Pittsburgh plays the Cowboys (2-5), Bengals (1-5-1) and Jaguars (1-6), while the Ravens face the Colts (4-2), Patriots (2-4) and Titans (5-1). So this is more than a rivalry game; it's a game that has implications in the division and the race for the No. 1 seed in the AFC. With the playoff field expanded to seven teams in each conference, only one team will receive a first-round bye."

Many of the pundits are saying due to the fast pressure Pittsburg can put on a quarterback, Lamar is going to have to rely on his long ball passing game, which has been shaky.

I disagree on this one --I think the Ravens should rely on their running game, Lamar's ability to divert the defense, escape and gain a few yards, and a lot of short play action passes. Basically, I think they need to control the ball and avoid any interceptions which Pittsburg can use to change the momentum.  The Raven's defense, which has played pretty well so far, will hopefully stop Roethlisberger from completing his long throws. Or else....

The Ravens need their head in the game the entire time. It's going to be a tough one.

"also love the Vikings plus the 6.5"

who is this sage from the cheap seats?

God d*mn it.  28 Steelers  24  Ravens... back and forth edge of your seat game until last play. Ravens could have won but failed to score with seconds left on the clock (they were winning with 7 minutes left).

Sure enough, Lamar threw two interceptions that Pittsburg turned into touchdowns. When they were running, everything was fine.

Bad news --- two injured starters including our O line mainstay Ronnie Stanley who just signed a 5 year contract.

Despite a grinding & often brutal season for my team so far, I've still found the 49ers & the NFL to be a nice diversion from the madness of the real world.

But at some point it all blends into one.

So now, thanks to massive injury & COVID issues, tomorrow night my boys will be fielding an offense with their 2nd string QB, their 4th string RB, their 3rd string tight end, their 3rd string center, their 2nd string left tackle, and their 4th string & MULTIPLE practice squad wide receivers.

I think that's it, for now.

And their defense isn't much better off.

Right now they're the San Francisco Practicesquaders.

On the plus side, it will be very much like the preseason games we missed out on this year!

I'm not here to whine about it, it's way past whining time.

It's just gotten bizarre, and so consistent with everything else happening in the madness of the real world.

Still, fuck 'em all.

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not the nIners year obviously. - Garoppolo has a glass jaw - or leg or whatever. -Word is they may hit the free agent market next year for a new QB and deal him back to the Patriarchs. Who knows.

nobody is on the 49ers tonight.  almost 80% of the action is on the Packers which is why I am betting the 49ers plus the 7.5 for my limit

I missed on them last week as I did not see the inability to run the football coming.  I have no idea how the 49ers are gonna cover tonight but I know the house needs them to badly

from the cheap seats, give me the 49ers plus the 7.5 tonight

and if the Falcons go with a QB in the 1st round next off season and let Matt Ryan go, he would be the most obvious replacement for Mr Dreamboat at QB.  its coming too.  that HC and GM wont play around and dither at the QB position with guys like Ryan and possibly Cousins available to Shanahan to work with again

>>>Garoppolo has a glass jaw - or leg or whatever<<<

Yeah, that's a bad rap. Guys get hurt in the NFL. The one thing the 49ers didn't do well last year was pass protect, and JG took a massive beating all season, but he played every snap in 19 games. When you get smashed things happen.

And Shanahan knows way more than I or any of us do, but he can be stubborn with his ideas. Many fans have joined the Garoppolo haters club, but the grass is greener crowd, including Shanahan should be careful what they wish for.

Personally I don't believe that Ryan or Cousins, or really any veteran they realistically could replace JG with next season is any better overall. Better at the deep ball maybe, but Garoppolo is a very good QB who does a lot of little things well and makes many of his throws look easier than they are.

We fans always think we know what's going on... "Why did you throw that pass?!!? Why did you run THAT play?!!? Why did you blitz there?!!? This coach/player/GM SUCKS!!!!"

I remember getting pissed at Bill Walsh at times when things weren't going well, and then I'd check myself and think, "Dude. Bill Walsh knows what he's doing, shut up."

I like JimmyG and I hope they stick with him, but I like the 49ers more and I just want to see them win. Fortunately I do have faith that Shanahan & Lynch know what they're doing, which is really all any fan can hope for, so whatever they decide I'll accept that they're very good at what they do and that they know way more than I do.

Anyway...

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if Kyle Shanahan decides that he wants to move on from Garoppolo it wont be because of a glass anything.  sure injuries will play a part in the decision but it will be decided more along the lines of who Shanahan thinks can run his offense more effectively and who the team can fit into whatever cap complications and/or restrictions come with such a move.

I am no Bill Walsh (he gets way better seats then I do) but I have seen Matt Ryan and Kirk, dont call me Kurt, Cousins run a Kyle Shanahan lead offense.  I would take both in a heartbeat over Garoppolo and Coach Shanahan pretty much copped to the fact that his 1st choice when he went QB shopping was Cousins and not Garoppolo

all this to say that if I was a 49ers fan I would welcome a QB change in so far as Kyle is selecting that QB based on who will run his offense the most efficiently.  one thing is for certain, the offense does not have to be dynamic with that defense at full strength.  but you also need a QB who does all the things well that the offensive scheme requires.

I am not the 1st to point out JG throws with no anticipation.  he has an incredible arm and trusts it implicitly but he is a see it and throw it guy and not an anticipation thrower and that is what I believe Shanhan demands 1st and foremost from his QBs

time will tell...

Marquez Valdes-Scantling?!?  fuck me running I keep losing my shirt on the 49ers

The 49ers are absolutely fielding a 2nd half of a 2nd preseason game offense tonight, and half a defense. They have no chance.

And dstar has seen Cousins run a Shanahan offense well?

Whoo.

He's thrown 10 INTs already this year, and he'd cost almost as much in pay and more in trade to get him.

Ryan? What's he ever done without Julio Jones? Has anyone watched that this season? Not so much, and he's never achieved anything more than JG has.

Chicks dig the long ball, and both those guys rip the long ball, but there's way more to being a successful QB than deep shots.

The 49ers have issues to deal with next year. Those issues are manageable, but if they want to replace Garoppolo it will cost them, and he's better than most of us cheap-seaters love to think (he's definitely better than Cousins); I would be surprised if someone else is at QB next year for the 49ers.

Anyway, FUCK 'EM ALL!!!!

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^ RG3 wants a job. Ravens got a kid to replace him as our #2 qb.

Got any O line to trade for?

This week we have 7 guys out for Covid. All on Defense. Practices curtailed. Game with Colts on Sunday.

>>>Got any O line to trade for<<<

Sure. They all stink, but sure. Although I don't think Shanahan wants RG3.

>>>This week we have 7 guys out for Covid<<<

I feel your pain Allan. Good luck with that.

And just in case anyone in the cheap seats is interested, here's a pretty good take on the Garoppolo/49ers situation (that happens to jibe pretty closely with mine)...

https://theathletic.com/2177702/2020/11/05/kawakami-keep-jimmy-garoppolo...

If nothing else, it supports that my take isn't coming completely from left field. (Mixed metaphor?)

its an opinion based conversation, Lance.  of course your opinion is valid and not far fetched

that does not make it right but I digress

Ravens now 6-2, beat Colts today. It's still weird after all these years seeing those blue horseshoes on the other team's helmets.

If Ravens offense plays like they did 2nd half, they will be in the playoffs. It was like they were resurrected at halftime. They were quick and sharp. Another big injury, though.

Final score 24 - 10.

Big win for bills today, heading for 12-4 or better season. Josh had 417, threw for 3 tds and ran for one.

Outplayed Russ Wilson big time

I had not watched one minute of NFL this year until last night.

All this political BS spinning around in my head - I needed a distraction, I thought. I'll watch a bit of Sunday Night Football on NBC. Why Not?

I had heard that the Buccaneers were ON FIRE and headed to playoffs for sure, so I was excited when I saw they were playing in the Sunday Night game against the Saints.

Here was a chance to see if Brady still had it.

Then I watched the game.

WTF?

Well, that explains that debacle. The Sixer Jinx. Go back to knitting and indoor shuffleboard, PLEASE.

Earl?  You think I'm that powerful?

Well then, I've got that going for me. Which is nice.

Holy Cow! Brady looked like Trump in that game - a real LOSER!!!!!

Proving the universe is a little out of whack, Lance:

"Joe Flacco threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Breshad Perriman in the second quarter to give the New York Jets a 10-7 lead over the visiting New England Patriots. With the completion, Flacco moved past San Francisco 49ers great Joe Montana for 20th on the NFL all-time passing list with 40,600 yards."

The only thing I see that the two have in common is a calm tenacity they have in the last two minutes of play when the game is one the line.

The Raiders are going to run all over the Chiefs like Rudy's hair dye !

Ravens lose in overtime to Titans proving they are a mediocre team this year, a large part due to injuries.

No football tomorrow night. Ravens - Steelers not happening. Bummer.

"The NFL is losing its marquee matchup on Thanksgiving, as the two AFC heavyweights were set to be the primetime game on Thursday evening.

due to positive Covid-19 cases within the Ravens organization, the NFL said."

The wheels are starting to come off now.

More & more players (and the public in general) testing positive, more postponements, more games played with many missing players.

And now, Santa Clara County has REALLY battened down the hatches. Starting on Monday and for at least the next three weeks, along with the curfew there will be a county-wide quarantine for those coming into the county from over 150 miles and no contact sports for high school, college and professional, which means the 49ers have no venue to play their home games next week & the week after, and even more problematic, they can't use their facilities to practice.

At the moment it looks like they may try to use good ol' Oakland Coliseum for the games, but is the field even close to playable? Where are they going to meet & practice? Maybe they could play at Oracle Park (SF Giants stadium). Someone even suggested Kezar Stadium, which is still there but like a high school field. That would be cool, but again, no facilities to support two full NFL teams. It's hard to imagine how this is going to work for the 49ers.

As things get worse around the country & the league, it's getting more difficult to see this season come to it's full conclusion. I wonder what the league's contingency plans might be. Shut down and go with the standings as they are at the shutdown, and then play the playoff games in neutral "bubble" sites & conditions? Postpone everything and try to start up again in January? Cancel the season? Or just force it through and soldier on to the end, using whoever is left? I read today that the Broncos may have to start a running back at quarterback tomorrow. Sure, THAT will be just fine.

COVID numbers are spiking everywhere, hospitals are filling up and people are dying. Football isn't much of anything in the bigger picture, but it sure has been a good distraction.

Good luck to all of us, and pray for 2021.

Oh, and...

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder how Jerry Jones feels about all of this?

Broncos don't have any eligible quarterbacks and said they will not forfeit

Bears vs Packers tonight.  Of course I hope they kick the crap out of the packers but not too confident here.  Bears are a mess.

20 players out... I'm ready to throw in the towel

OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- The Baltimore Ravens placed six players on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday, causing some to wonder whether they can field a competitive team for Tuesday's game against the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers.

In the midst of one of the biggest outbreak in sports, the Ravens have now put 18 players on the reserve/COVID-19 list this week, including reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson. Baltimore has had seven straight days with at least one positive test, including at least one on Saturday, according to a source.

^ good luck Bears

They'll need it!

The Bears are a joke but I kind of wish St. Mark was still here so he could brag about the Broncos.

Giants are like fucking democrats,, even when they win they lose. Won the game to take division lead at 4-7 (oy fuckin vey),,

and, lost the starting qb to injury

Since there is no hockey and the Bears suck, as painful as that is to say, There is some good football still to be played
I caught the end of the KC TB game, good stuff.

The Phoenix 49ers.

Has a bit of a ring to it.

2020 just keeps getting weirder.

Stay safe everybody.

And...

GO PHOENINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Giants are divisional leaders. Jesus, the NFC East sucks!

Ravens might strike -- as in walkout, i.e., not play Pittsburg Tuesday night

"Such a maneuver, if it happens, would pull the pin on a potentially complex legal grenade. The NFL would argue that it’s an illegal strike, violating both the CBA and the agreement struck in early August to allow the season to proceed. The NFL Players Association would likely counter by claiming that the delays coupled with the refusal to let the Ravens properly prepare creates a physical safety risk sufficient to justify refusing to play."

Crazy

Breaking -- Monday night: "The COVID-19 outbreak in Baltimore has led to the Ravens-Steelers game being postponed to Wednesday....The game is scheduled to kick off at 3:40 p.m. ET.  It becomes the first game of the NFL season to get postponed three times.

Baltimore is in the midst of one of the largest outbreaks in professional sports. The Ravens have had 22 players test positive or get identified as a high-risk close contact over the past nine days. Right now, Baltimore has 38 players on its 53-man roster."

Football at 3:40 on a Wednesday?... feels really weird.... great excuse to drink beer on a weekday afternoon, though

Ravens JV team vs undefeated Steelers

Heidi 2020

you still watch football on SUNDAYS? that's so passe. Wednesday afternoon and Tuesday night games are where it's at.

After ignoring the NFL (and pretty much all pro sports) for quite a few years now - it was cold, windy and pretty raw outside in northern Vermont yesterday and I skipped my usual Sunday afternoon hike to stay warm and have a beer or two and few "hits from the bong" (cue Cypress Hill).

Instead, I sat down again (for just the second time in 2020) to watch an NFL football game - this time between my beloved NY Giants and the Seahawks. I figured I could just fade in and out and perhaps take a nice nap. Well, I'm sure you all know what happened.

Watch out - the Giants defense is apparently FOR REAL. Wow!

"Hits from the bong y'all

Gonna get high..."

Holy G Man D Batman. Best Giant game in about 7 years.

Jesus, Washington!

All of a sudden the NFC East is Upset Central.

Those old Dolphins that are still around get to pop the champagne one more time

How about them Bills! They got the steelers Sunday night, they will be 10-2 by the end.

Just finished the Janis biography and found another reason to hate the cowboys. Jimmie Johnson harassed the shit out of Janis Joplin in HS. Screw him.

He tells about it in his biography, thought it was a gas.

^ I hope the Ravens get their shit together and beat Jimmie Johnson's team tonight. Yes, Tuesday night football. We are certainly in bizarro world.

Anything to get the whole season in, must be weird for the players, no fans that is.

From past experience, Buffalo playoff home games are electric. It was like being plugged into a outlet. I saw four during the super bowl years.

Huge home field advantage, plus the snow, cold and ice. I was still in my 20's heading into my 30's.

After the raider blowout in the Championship game we stopped at every bar in every little podunk town, wild time. Almost went home with a couple of floozies at barbills in East Aurora.

It ain't Buff bro

It ain't Buff bro

Quick Bills story:

A few weeks ago in my little town I saw a guy with an old school Bills T-shirt on. It was the day after they lost the game on a last second Hail Mary.

I said, man rough loss yesterday, did you see that?

He shook his head and said yeah, I saw it.

I asked him if he used to live there.

He said, "I used to play for them."

"Really?" I did a quick judge of his age.

"Did you play with OJ?"

"I was his backup."

"Hmmm, I'm guessing you didn't get much playing time."

"Nope."

"Well at that point it's 'pay me don't play me', right?"

He laughed and said "you got it."

Turns out my friend knows him and his son was a couple of years ahead of my buddy in high school.

The son just died of COVID in his early 40's.

Very sad.

Dez Bryant was supposed to play for Ravens tonight as their saving grace receiver against his old team the Cowboys. But he tested positive right before the game. He's like the 21st guy who's been on the list. So he just quit for the year.

Fox Sports just played "Estimated" on the outro to the commercial after a missed field goal.

I'm not sure I like it when worlds collide.

I thought i heard a Cumberland some time at the end of the 2nd Quarter as well.

^ Scott -- and a St of Circumstance just now.. ha.. crackin me up..

I heard the Cumberland, and we got some good Phish early on.

And we don't get to see Baltimore much here on the west coast, but has Lamar Jackson's passing regressed this year? He looks... a bit "off" with his throws.

Dude can run like the wind though.

And yeah, Buffalo really handed it to the Niners yesterday.

Fortunately I've always liked the Bills so it wasn't quite as difficult to watch as it could have been.

Oh well. Wait 'till next year!!!!

Lance, that is spoken like a true bills fan for last 25 years, there's always next year

My daughter just met a good friend of Reuban brown former all pro tackle in Savannah. I sent her a pic of my bills flag out front with the snow on the ground here is upstate NY.

Yep Alan, thanks for the "heads" up

>has Lamar Jackson's passing regressed this year?<

Actually, he was never much of a passer... they were hoping he would mature into one and solve his persistent mechanical issues. He only throws nice tight textbook spirals occasionally; he seems to prefer dropping his elbow and throwing sidearm --- which is great when he is running around and needs some short yardage. But staying in the pocket and heaving a clean long bomb -- not his forte.

Neither are quick pops to the outside for first down yardage. He'd rather run it. The pundits are questioning just how well he can read the defenses and respond when a passing game is needed. He can sure run, though.

Add to that our "star" draft pick receiver is about three-foot-two and no matter how good the pass is, the big defensive guys covering him just swat it down. The awesome speed they drafted him for doesn't help him because he hardly ever catches the ball.

Everybody else that can help -- O line and tight ends.... are injured or have Covid. Lamar's leadership skills are suspect, too. He's a rap star when winning, but just sits by himself and broods when losing. He's still young and has a lot to learn.

Ravens need to win every game from here on out.  My purple fingers are crossed, but I'm skeptical they can pull it off.

If you're bored, catch the game tonight. It could be a fun game to watch. Probably see a lot of old school running attack and big defensive plays.

"Jackson and Mayfield will be linked throughout their careers as division rivals and Heisman Trophy winners who both entered the league in 2018. Jackson has already won an MVP award and has led the Ravens to two division titles. But Mayfield has taken a major step forward this season, cutting down on mistakes and coming off his best game of the season against Tennessee. Jackson looked re-energized last week against Dallas after missing a game on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. In a huge game for both teams, the outcome may be decided by which quarterback has the stronger performance."

Baker has had 4 or 5 offensive coordinators in his short time in Cleveland. Credit coach Stefanski for getting back to central division basics. The OL is pretty bad ass and that also is helping Baker. Harbaugh is one of the best coaches in the business imo. let's go brownies!!!

Fabes. I'm liking this game just as a good back-and-forth football game. Two average teams trying to prove that they are better than that. Refs and penalties are annoying and may determine the game.

tie game with a minute left 42 - 42

what a crazy game -- 4 TDs in the last 5 drives. Lamar and number 3 QB (2 is injured) get knocked out of game with injuries -- Lamar comes back from locker room to tie it up

Tucker kicks a field goal with seconds left for Ravens win

That was a great game, and I don't usually think non-stop scoring games are great because I like defense, but both of those teams have really good defenses and yet back & forth it went, to the final seconds.

After being injured and the game looking lost for the Ravens, Jackson running back onto the field straight from the locker room just in time to run one 4th down play and he throws a TD? That was pretty NFL epic.

Good stuff Maynard.

These are the dog days now. 14 weeks in with only one week off, every one of these guys is battered, beaten, broken and bruised in a hundred different ways that we mere mortals could never understand (unless we've been in a major car wreck or mugged & beaten with a baseball bat, and even then we don't go out and do it again a week later) and yet they go out there and play with such total aggressive abandon & intensity.

NFL players sacrifice, and they earn every dime they get.

NFL football has many, many flaws, but god damn it's a great game.

Big game for the Bills this afternoon. A win clinches the AFC East title for the 1st time in 25 years.

Back in the good old days, bills fans were spoiled with all the wins in the AFC and going to the Super Bowl 4 years in a row and losing.

Back in the 90's, the NFC was the tougher division, now it appears that the AFC is stronger.

Go Bill!

Bills win AFC East

weird seeing that written

Ravens steamroller over Jacksonville but don't advance because Dolphins probably winning over Patriots. dammit.

I bet after this year the 49ers are going to have some very good lawyers looking at how to get out of their lease. San Diego 49ers may be coming soon.

Best don't be sleepin' on dem Jets!

>>>>Ravens steamroller over Jacksonville

Jags are in a race to the bottom with the Jets to secure the first draft pick.  Got tix to see the Jaguars next weekend in their final home game against the Bears.

The niners are WAY better than their record

 Bad luck bears or not

i could easily select many players that need to go bye bye

>Jags are in a race to the bottom with the Jets to secure the first draft pick.  Got tix to see the Jaguars next weekend in their final home game against the Bears.

I guess no one told the Jets

The whole 'lets lose so that we can win' is the epitome of loser mentality.  I've been a fan of the Jets for 40 years. Losing so that their chances increase to draft the #1 pick -- ultimately to ruin that kids career ---  is plain old moronic.

Thank you 49ers for beating the Cardinals and opening the door for the Bears to make the playoffs!

If the Bears beat the Jags tomorrow they will be ahead of the Cardinals by way of tie breaker coming down to the final week of the regular season.

Cards have a tough match up against the Rams.

The Bears, well, get the Packers at Soldier Field setting up yet another heart breaking defeat at the hands of Erin Rodgers. Ugh. The Bears are playing well, though, and are overdue to beat GB. Waaaaaay overdue.

Go Rams!

The Cardinals really laid an egg today in a game they needed to win.

The 49ers defense did play really well against a very good offense, but the Cards defense, knowing the Niners were going with their 3rd string stiff at QB, allowed the 49ers to run all over them, never forcing the 49ers to have to pass the ball.

The 49ers are a good running team, but when you KNOW going in that a team is going to run the ball, any decent defense should be able to sell out enough to at least slow it down. Beathard WOULD have made mistakes if he'd had to face lots of 3rd & longs.

It was nice to see the 49ers play with heart in a meaningless game, and yet the win will hurt their draft position significantly. That will bother me later, but today it was fun to see a win.

Good luck to the Bears and all the other teams still in the mix.

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy cow.

It's uncountable how many times over the years I've been glad I'm not a Raiders fan, but THAT was a massive gut punch for the 3rd World Nation.

And they can't even blame it on their favorite excuse, The Grand Conspiracy.

This one will be added to their Silver & Black crown of thorns for sure.

I LOVE watching Chuckie lose. That Dolphins game was GREAT. What a finish. Last 10 minutes or so was wild.

Suck a dick Slick

Fitzmagic is real. They gotta start him next week vs Buffalo, no?

LOL. Sorry Sigmund, just dislike Chuckie.

Love watching Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh lose, too.

Lots of people questioning the $100 million dollar coach after his decision tonight to eat clock instead of score a TD.

"NFL fans rightly crushed Jon Gruden after the Raiders' wild loss to the Dolphins"

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/nfl-fans-rightly-crushed-jon-gruden...

That was a curious call. 3rd and goal at the 1 and opts for a field goal  when a field goal still beats them. Shoulda jammed Jacobs up there 1 more time then kick the field goal if he doesn't make it, or the dolphins need a touchdown in a minute if he makes it. Chuckie blew this one.

Oh come on. That's just ridiculous after-the-fact fan whining. Running down the clock and kicking the field goal was the right & obvious move.

The Dolphins got the ball with 19 seconds left and no time outs! There was no way they could pull that one out.

Well, I guess there was ONE way. One totally crazy, unbelievable, bonehead way.

Gruden has made some mistakes, as all coaches do, but that wasn't one of them.

The last series the Raiders had the ball 1st and goal. Jacobs ran into tthe line 3 times and fell down short of the goal line.

Not tackled, fell down, three f-ing times. If they score a TD it forces the phins to score one as well. If the phins need something a touchdown, with the amount of time left, they would have had to just chucked up hail Mary. The field goal.made it easier to lose not win.

Gurden must have been hit in the head too many times, what a stupid call.

>>>>>If the phins need something a touchdown, with the amount of time left, they would have had to just chucked up hail Mary.

To be fair, you have to remember Denny, that the time left (22 seconds) was 1:50 on second down when he stopped just short of a TD and 1:05 on third down when they took a knee. They ran off 1:30 by doing those plays so Fitz would've had way more time, like just over a minute, to go down the field if they went in to score on second down.

Gruden had the recent memory of leaving too much time for Mahommes to beat them in similar fashion with 1:15 left.

Sitting in an 85% empty stadium on the banks of the St. Johns River, drinking a $12 beer and waiting for kickoff of Jags v. Bears.

Nice, Ken. Have a GREAT time! Bears need this, and the Jags need Trevor Lawrence. Nice weather. "Look for sunny skies, six mph winds, and 60-degree temperatures." Unlike GB tonight.

Ugh.   We're No. 1 (draft pick).

Just as much orange as teal in the stadium and the Bears fans are much more vocal.

Ravens beat Giants and are still in contention for a playoff spot if they win next week.

The Browns, did what the Browns do

Fitz ain't mahommes, if he was he would still be playing for any one of the teams he worked his was thru during his career.. Didn't he start with the browns.

Don't get me wrong, I have great respect for Fitz.  Back during the year that he made the cover of sports illustrated, I'm up in buffalo going to a game. Waiting to go in with us is bunch of kids dressed like Amish swilling beer.

He had grown that crazy beard and earned the nickname the Amish rifle. He would always rip your heart out with a poorly timed interception, usually in the 4th quarter driving for the game winner.

There's a couple of throws he can't make consistently. All we need is for the patsies to sign him next year and he will have played for every team in the AFC EAST. That has to be some kind of record

My Pack looked good tonight.

I have been a Green Bay Packers fan since the early 1960's and always will be, but I also like the Vikings and the Bears !! Great game for the Packers today 40-14 against Titans ! Next weeks game should be good, Packers vs Bears !! Go Packers !!!

Wait.

Bruce, you're a long-time Packers fan, but you like the Vikings and Bears too?

Isn't that like being a 49ers fan and liking the Rams and Seahawks too??

A Yankees fan liking the Red Sox???

A Giants fan liking the Dodgers????

Damn you 2020!!!!

Up is down!!!

Black is white!!!!

Nothing makes sense any more.

This is a great Monday night game. The bills beating the living shit out of the patsies.

This isn't the same team that started this season. They were good, but their defense is starting to shape up.

A jets fan texted me asking " Do you think they are running up the score ?"

Sure fuckin hope so!

Yeah, I'd say that Belichick has definitely earned some payback.

Behind closed doors he might even agree with that, considering how he & his team have dominated that division and the entire league for so, so long.

And the Bills are looking really good. Allen has developed quickly into an outstanding QB. They have a real shot at getting to the Big Game, IF they can get past Kansas City.

In the NFC, the damned SeaHags defense has really come on strong and with that, along with their big game experience they have everything they need to go far as well, along with New Orleans & Green Bay.

My preemptive Super Bowl matchup is Seattle vs Kansas City, with KC going back-to-back.

I'm glad the league was able to get through the season, and the playoffs should be really good & interesting, but I sure am looking forward to the 2021 season, where my team hopefully will get back on track, and more importantly I can actually go to the damned games again, because watching football on TV is for the birds.

GO NINERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

poor phillip rivers.

Really Turtle?

I'd have thought that for the past 15 years or so you'd have always compared Rivers to Brees.

And IMO that comparison has always come up definitely one-sided.

Rivers has always seemed more pretender than contender to me.

Biggest mistake the Chargers have ever made?

>>>  Biggest mistake the Chargers have ever made?

one of them.

trading James Brooks for washed-up, coked-out Pete Johnson is another

Getting past KC does not look as hard as it once was, go bills

Philip River is the best quarterback at the almost came back category. They fall behind, Rivers brings them back to the brink and then throws the interception. Same story his whole career

also, Ryan Leaf

A Ravens win today puts them in the playoffs.

I hope they win so the season lasts a little longer.

Like to see Alex Smith and the Washington Team With No Name win and get in.  It's been a long, strange year, but between their resurgent Defensive Line and 3rd Round draft rookie halfback Antonio Gibson, the WFT found some young talent.  Ron Rivera is cancer free, and cutting Dwayne Haskins loose signals he's got more control of the team than Daniel Snyder, which is a good thing.  Alex Smith doesn't figure in their future, but his come-back from nearly losing his leg is a feel-good story.  If they beat the Eagles, it sets up a showdown with another veteran QB, Tom Brady and the Bucs in the First Round.

What a great story Alex has been this year. What perseverance. Class guy too. Been an Alex Smith fan since his days with the Utah Utes and an undefeated season in 2004.

Fuck Da Cowboys

Ravens rolled over Cincinnati  38 - 3, so they are in the playoffs. Rushed for 404 yards.

Lamar Jackson is the first NFL quarterback to rush for 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons

Atta' boy Alex.

It couldn't happen to a better guy, and he's finally getting some of the respect he's always deserved.

Go through what he's gone through, long before and especially after his horrific injury. What a stud that guy is.

And holy cow, I'm not sure I've ever seen a more obvious "tank" than what Philly did tonight.

How can that coach, who was Philadelphia's great hero just a few years ago, go on after THAT debacle?!?

The entire NFC East division is a joke, but still.

I'm glad I'm not a New York Giants fan tonight.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-6Tn0Ie-AQ&t=40s

Fuck Da Eagles

Bills end up 13-3, they beat the last three teams they played by an average of 29pts. They swept the AFC first time ever, hard to believe that the Kelly teams didn't do this.

Josh Allen is on fire, he picked the Miami defense apart on Sunday. Diggs is running around wide open, if hes not someone else is.

Here comes the colts, going to be cold in Buffalo and you know what that means, rivers blows. The defense will shut down the run game and put the ball in rivers hands.

Go Bills

rivers is hardly a mistake. he is a HOF player by #'s alone.

YES he has and does throw untimely picks, however pinning the chargers lack of success hardly falls at his feet.

at the time, brees had just started to play well and was significantly injured. so he was hardly the all-star HOF player he turned out to be. i've always really liked him and rooted for him.

but yeah, i don't know man....how you can not address SPECIAL TEAMS for 20 fucking years!!!@!&#^!*@&#^!@*&^

hardly blame phillip. was wishing him to get into the playoffs, as he deserves it.

Bucs move to the next round.    I assume Brady just beat some NFL record?

poor phillip.

A month or two before Brees took a snap for the Saints He was in front of me in line at the Lowes in Metarie. I didn't realize it was him at the time. That thing on his face is what stood out to me.

Big game for Ravens this afternoon against Tennessee. Should be a rumble.

Lamar is out to prove he is playoff caliber after getting knocked out of contention by the Titans last year. The dude has a big chip on his shoulder, cause he gets little respect as a "real" quarterback. And the rest of the team has to prove they can play with the top tier. I recommend you watching this matchup.

I'm debating about just getting some steamed shrimp from the grocery store (covered with Old Bay, of course) so I don't have to cook. I do have a pork chop in the freezer that I save for special occasions that I could start marinating now. I ate the wings last week, but could throw some chicken on the grill. Problem is, I'm cooking for one ---- no fun.

^ <... in Metarie. I didn't realize it was him at the time. That thing on his face is what stood out to me.>

Joy, you sure it wasn't Aaron Neville?

(kidding... Aaron is riding out the pandemic on his farm in NY)

1140-aaron-neville-gardening.imgcache.rev_.web_.450.600.jpg

very nervous game, but Lamar pushed them through. also the defense made a clutch play for an important turnover

I can now justify having eaten an entire bag of UTZ Old Bay Seasoning Chesapeake Crab potato chips

Congrats on a big win Alan. Nothing like a playoff victory.

I didn't see the game but it looks like Jackson rambled your boys to victory.

TD Saints

Lance - It was a great game to watch no matter who one was rooting for.  And the best thing about pandemic playoffs -- keeps the weekly entertainment going -- I'd be bummed if the season was over .

I don't think Ravens are better than the Chiefs. And the Bills would play to their weaknesses, So it will be interesting to see who they will play net week.

But the Ravens are very determined and the pieces could fall in place. They are certainly in the mix with Lamar.

It's snowing in Louisiana right now and it's 21-3 .

Against Chicago,  is rather bizarre.  I thought Chicago would dominate this game.

Bills......any good?  How are they gonna stop Lamar?

I'm thinking that if Ravens can mess up the passing game with consistent pressure on qb and our secondary can hold off big pass plays, we stand a chance of pounding them into the turf.

Sat night -- calling for snow

(I'm not a fan of night games in general, especially on a Sat night -- breaks the needed rhythm and fucks with the mindset, just for some tv ratings)

Bills advance and have the ravens. They played last year and kept Lamar in check. He hit on a couple big passes and they won. Allen missed on a chance to tie or win the game at the end.

This Bills team is a different animal than last year. The addition of diggs and the breakout of the rookie Davis along with Josh slinging the ball all over the field are hard to keep down.

Saturday, Rivers was on fire and the one pass he missed was the most important, the 4th down pass into the endzone. If he had made that what a difference it would have been.

The Bills took the ball and moved moved 96 yards in a 1:45 to score the go ahead TD. This something they have done repeatedly this year.

By the way, that was a fumble at the end, game should have ended right there.

Heineken played really well for us and should be in the mix to start next year. I don't think anyone gave us a chance and it turned out to be pretty close.

Can't believe Chubbs running all over Pittsburg like that. He has the same name as one of my backyard squirrels. Good games all weekend.

Another good weekend of games coming up.

Does Ohio State have a chance, maybe !

The Rams defense stuffed the Seahawks.  If they show up like that at Lambeau, the Pack are in for a tough game.

I was also surprised and glad to see Heinecke step up.  A weird year, to say the least, for the WFT.  They come out of the year with a clearer QB situation, 3rd Round pick Antonio Gibson establishing himself as a legit weapon, and a young and talented Defensive Line emerging.   With a Division Title, things are looking up for the WFT.  Hope they hash out a deal to knock down the old RFK and rebuild a  new stadium in D.C.  They need to be back in the District, not in the Maryland suburbs, and RFK looked sad and rusted out last time I drove by it on the freeway.

The Browns made a splash, but now get Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Brees vs. Brady will be a good match-up.  The Saints are my Dark Horse in this race.

I was really disappointed that Alex Smith couldn't play in that game. I think he'll retire now, so getting to play in one more big game would have been great to see, and a good way for him to go out. Still, what a story that guy has been.

The Rams have played very hot & cold this year, so which team will show up at Lambeau? The Rams have an excellent overall defense and a great pass rush, and those things are gold in the post-season. They also have a well-coached, dynamic offense, so I say if Goff can play and doesn't blow it on offense and their Dline pressures Rodgers the Rams will win. The Packers were excellent last year but the 49ers harassed Rodgers endlessly and he couldn't get anything done. As long as the amazing, unstoppable Aaron Donald is healthy, I can see the Rams doing the same thing. But I can also see Goff's thumb being an issue and him sucking/throwing a couple of killing INTs. That's going to be an interesting game to watch, and if Goff can throw the ball it should be close, but I'm taking Donald and the LAms.

The Ravens/Bills game should be really good. The Bills are just rolling right now and Allen has developed into a true star, but how good is their defense? If they can contain Jackson's running they should be able to outscore the Ravens.

On paper it's hard to see Cleveland beating the Chiefs, who are excellent and have the added advantage of KNOWING they can win big games, but that Browns defense is pretty darn good and the team is playing free & easy. I still would bet on the Chiefs, but after yesterday the Browns have a bit of Cinderella dust on them. Normally, if my team isn't involved I always root more for the fans than the teams, so in this case I'm rooting bigtime for the hapless Browns fans, who unless they're old enough to remember Otto Graham & Jim Brown have never gotten ANYTHING good.

And finally, I say never bet against the GOAT. If the Saints can pressure Brady they have a good chance, but if Brady gets protection... he's Tom Fucking Brady, and as much as so many seem to hate him and try to minimize him, that dude knows how to play big in big games. Brees & the Saints are great too, and both defenses are really good, but I'm taking the Bucs in that one.

I'm looking forward to all four games, and as long as the Untied States doesn't completely collapse into Civil War this week it should be a great weekend of football. And I LOVE nighttime football! As an attendee of games, night games are always so much more fun. The energy in the stadium is much more intense, and the game just looks so great under the lights. And when watching on TV, no matter how weird it might be for games to start at 8:00pm or 9:00pm on the east side, games starting at 10:00am out here absolutely sucks. Football is not meant to be played, or watched, in the morning. Bleh.

These are strange times, so keep your heads down, and good luck to all who care!

I think the Browns just scored again

suck it Pittsburg

I remember Jim Brown, second best back the Browns ever had. Marion Motley is the one, watch the film.

<Football is not meant to be played, or watched, in the morning. Bleh.>

Agreed. Spent more than one Sunday morning swilling coffee, reading the Chronicle and struggling to follow East Coast games after a late night show.

But night games remind me of high school football and the ones in Baltimore are often coooooold. ( I'm one of those guys who whenever they go to the game, it inevitably turns into a torrential rainstorm or a blizzard and I'm getting too old for that).

In other NFL news. Bill Belichick has snubbed Trump's offer of a presidential medal of freedom:

https://www.foxnews.com/sports/bill-belichick-declines-presidential-meda...

Coach B doesn't want to be associated with a chea--

Wait.  Never mind.

I was really disappointed that Alex Smith couldn't play in that game.>>>>

I think it was his call to make and the right one imo. The calf injury is the same leg. He was lucky to make it past the phili game. We suspect he listens to his wife and retires. Once he decides our QB situation will more clear. Totally agree about Ravens / Bills. Ya never know, could be a few surprises again this weekend.

I was also surprised and glad to see Heinecke step up.>>>

Yep, next year it should be Heineken and Allen then either a draft pick, free agent or possible trade.

Hoodie did the right thing!

Bump for playoff game tonight

Ravens vs Bills

Lamar Jackson vs Josh Allen

Should be a good diversion from everything else (Jorma is not live tonight, as I recall)

^ That's a funny post, Bluest.

Nice to see Belichick say and do the right thing.

Yeah, sad to see Alex go out not suited up. Must've been hard for him. A great career, an amazing and inspirational comeback, but more importantly, a great man who did things the right way. Been a fan since his days with our Utah Utes. I can see him coaching some day.

Some great football on tap this weekend. Enjoy everyone!

Go Pack!   (That behind this guy looks like Bart Starr.)

George Carlin would have loved that lady's halter top.

Speaking of the Pack, Furious E mentioned the demise of Bucky Badger in another thread.  Does anyone know what happened to him?  Guy was a big Cheesehead and a solid contributor here.  I don't recall seeing an R.I.P. thread.  Is he really gone?  I have trouble telling when E's being serious or just fooling sometimes.

Cleveland fans get two games this weekend, the old Browns versus the Bills today, and the new Browns versus the Chiefs tomorrow.  A Ravens/Browns AFC Championship game would be intriguing.

Wisconson's Toyah and Robert?

Erin Rodgers is the cheese whiz. It will be a good matchup with Brady or Brees.

Oh shit... everything is falling apart and Lamar is on the ground... not good

Yeah, I just now logged in to say...

Not looking good for the Ravens at the moment.

But...

Lots can happen in a 4th quarter of a playoff game, and at least it wasn't a safety.

But still,

Yeah, not looking good.

Also, how cool is it that, whoever makes it to the Super Bowl, for the NFC it will be an all-time great HOF elder going against a young gun in the AFC.

Old-timer against the new generation.

Whoever is involved, that bit will be very cool, and given how obsessed he is with youth vs age, I'd imagine that Timpane will have something to say about that.

I need a miracle

well that wasn't a battle of the offenses like they predicted... Bills pass rush threw Lamar off his game from the start and Lamar didn't get off any big runs -- so gotta hand it to the Bills' defense

good for the bills

Lamar's ability to throw the ball, and the receivers he has to work with clearly aren't enough.

It's an issue for Jackson going forward.

Condolences on the loss. Losing a playoff game is always so tough.

There's room to grow for Baltimore, but can Jackson develop as a quarterback the way Josh Allen has?

THAT'S the question for the Ravens.

On it goes.

^agreed....

It's my fault -- I drank wine for the game...who drinks wine for a football game? (hey, I had it for happy hour/dinner with the wife and didn't want to switch -- another reason I don't like 8pm Saturday night games) -- now I'm going to sulk...

I should have busted out the mezcal

I seriously doubt your drink of choice affected the outcome of the game.

Hopefully that choice helps you assuage the loss.

(Personally, I always choose tequila for big games)

Carry on.

And always remember the glory of...

WAIT 'TILL NEXT YEAR!!!!

In that vein,

go browns!

As a browns fan on the Team from Baltimore. I respect what Ozzie Newsome brought to that team and that city. A consistent backing of a great coach with character, and of all the quality moves that he made in the draft and thru trades, one of the best in the business, that never got the respect that he deserved outside of Baltimore. One of the Greatest Cleveland Browns to ever put on the jersey and a model person.

but fuck, Baltimore, and Ray Lewis

go browns

Really glad to see the long-suffering Browns in there, but Mahomes and Co are the defending champions, probably too strong. We'll see. Don't like Brady, and I like Brees.

I was 2 for 2 yesterday. Nice to see ex-Utah Ute Tyler Huntley in there. He was 8-1 in the PAC 12 his last year and is very capable.

If my Pack is gonna take it, I kinda would like to see them go through the Saints and the Chiefs. They will have really earned it if they do.

Have a great time everyone. Fun stuff.

A couple of weeks ago, ex-Ohio State Buckeye and Washington rookie DE Chase Young said he wanted to go up against Tom Brady. He came out on the short end, but had a nice exchange with Brady after the game and requested his jersey. Tom said he'd clean it and send it to him. He did, complete with a "Go Blue" dig. Nice to see respect, good sportsmanship, and humor.

Brady (494x800).jpg

Upstate NY is super happy, what a game. Wind blown kicks and passes, the difference came down to Allen and Jackson.

Allen has yet to throw an interception in the redzone in his 1st three years. Lamar forced one into all that traffic, but how do you not stop the runback. Taron Johnson won't have to pay for a beer in Buffalo ever.

The Bills defense made the difference and now we wait and see who the bills play next. Go Browns, if they win, Bills will host the AFC Championship game

what IS a brown?

that little elf dude?

Yes that is lil brownie

the team was named after coach Paul Brown, who also fucked us and left to own and coach the cincinati bengals, and it was the first chance they should of jumped at the chance of changing their name

Well, that'll about do it. The Browns really have no chance to win this game, but that stupid touchback rule just killed them for sure.

In a league that has many stupid rules, that a fumble out of the endzone goes as a touchback is the stupidest rule of them all.

I've always felt that's way too harsh a punishment that makes no competitive sense.

IMO a team should never be awarded a turnover if they don't actually gain possession of the ball.

The ball should just be placed at the spot of the fumble. At worst it should be a ten yard penalty from the spot of the fumble.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brownie_(folklore)

A brownie or broonie (Scots), also known as a brùnaidh or gruagach (Scottish Gaelic), is a household spirit from Scottish folklore that is said to come out at night while the owners of the house are asleep and perform various chores and farming tasks. The human owners of the house must leave a bowl of milk or cream or some other offering for the brownie, usually by the hearth. Brownies are described as easily offended and will leave their homes forever if they feel they have been insulted or in any way taken advantage of. Brownies are characteristically mischievous and are often said to punish or pull pranks on lazy servants. If angered, they are sometimes said to turn malicious, like boggarts.

I agree about that rule Lance, it's absurd.

With that missed FG, Browns have a shred of hope, but it will take a couple of miracles.

It doesn't seem like they have it in them today.

Did someone say hope...........

AHHH!

Tweet, tweet, tweet.

Mahomes knocked silly?

Almost certainly a concussion??

He ran off the field, but if they follow more of those many NFL rules and they keep him out...

The Browns have HOPE!

Hey Bucs

LETS FUCKIN GO

Tough way for Brees' career to end with three interceptions.

Looks like it's a Battle of the Bays for the NFC title.

Since Brees is still playing at a pretty high level and on a very good team, I wonder if his destroyed ribs earlier this season plays a big part in his decision to hang 'em up?

The level of sacrifice all these guys go through on a regular basis in the NFL is really unknown to us civilians.

If today was his last game, my hat is off to Drew Brees.

A winner, a class act, a true champion.

I was lucky enough to see Brees play in person on multiple occasions, most memorably in the 2011 playoffs at Candlestick, probably the greatest sporting event I've ever seen live. He was great that day, the 49ers juuuust a little bit better. It was always a thrill to watch him play.

A brilliant photo from that game...

justinsmith_0.jpg

THAT is NFuckingL football right there!

So now it's the old-time/all-time greats in the NFC and the young guns in the AFC.

I'll be rooting for the ever-wanting hard core Bills fans in the AFC, and I just love true greatness so I'll be rooting for the Bay Area-bred GOAT in the NFC.

May the best teams win, and good luck to those who care.

Oh, and...

49ers IN 2021!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the Bills end up losing the Super Bowl to Tompa Bay I predict there will be mass suicides in up state NY

hangover are worse when th teams you root for lose. Payton should have put Quinten in towards the end. Even if as a decoy

The documentary “Four Games in Fall” annihilates the NFL for the Deflategate scandal, showing it is highly unlikely, and certainly never proven, that the footballs Tom Brady used in the 2015 AFC championship game were even deflated beyond what Ideal Gas Law would dictate.

Rather than back down when confronted with the realities of science, the league used biased investigators, manipulated evidence and an effective, if pathetic, misinformation campaign to railroad Brady, who wound up suspended for four games.

The film is nearly two hours of scientists, lawyers and professors systematically debunking a story that is more about abuse of power than what did, or more accurately, didn’t occur.

https://sports.yahoo.com/documentary-takes-air-out-of-nf-ls-deflategate-...

Goodell was just looking for a way to distract everyone from Ray Rice beating the shit out of his finance in the elevator and then dragging her unconscious body back in -  all on video.

^^^Your boy, Tom Tom Brady, who used to golf with President Cheeto, won't have that scumbag, Antonio Brown, for the NFC Championship, bad knee.^^^

Agreed about Goodell's weak case, but the suspension was reinstated per the judge's reading of the NFLPA Labor Agreement.....

Writing for the majority, U.S. Circuit Judge Barrington Parker said that under the players’ collective bargaining agreement, Goodell had “especially broad” authority as an arbitrator to decide whether to confirm Brady’s suspension.

The judge basically said next time you have a labor contract to sign, read the darn thing first.....

Does everyone remember that time Thurman Thomas forgot his helmet for the Super Bowl !!!!!!!!! Ah those were the days of glory !!!!

The Bills are looking good. If Mahomes ends up playing it will be tough to win. Still a huge accomplishment for for Buffalo to be in the Championship game.

The NFC game should be good, don't really have a preference either way here.

Lance, how do you feel about Mayhew leaving? Lots of different opinions floating around WFT land, i'm taking a wait and see approach.

>>>Lance, how do you feel about Mayhew leaving<<<

In the position he had with the 49ers, it's hard to know exactly what he did or was directly involved with. He was in charge of scouting players at the NFL level and then advising John Lynch, but I think Lynch has built a pretty good overall team of front office people that work together in these things.

I don't think he did very well when he worked as Matt Millen's assistant and then replaced him as the Lions GM, but by all accounts he's a smart guy, did a good job with the 49ers and has been around a while now. It seems to me that Rivera has most of the control of the FT now, which seems to be working out OK.

And even though Mayhew has been given the title of GM in Washington, it sounds like he'll be working with a guy that used to GM in Carolina. Around here we were hearing that because of that other guy neither he nor Mayhew would get the GM title, which disappointed us 49ers fans, as nowadays if a person of color is hired with a promotion from one team to another, the team losing the employee gets a 3rd round draft pick, an incentive to groom coaching/front office talent of color. The 49ers are getting a 3rd this year and next year for losing Saleh (he's Lebanese) to the Jets, and now that Mayhew is officially the GM in Washington the 49ers will get a 3rd in 2023. All coming at the bottom of the round, but still, 3rd round picks are valuable so we're happy about it.

Ultimately, by reputation at least, I was glad it was Mayhew who left and not the other top Lynch assistant Adam Peters, who handles the bulk of college scouting and advising on the draft. Peters has been considered a rising GM talent since his time in Denver, and he almost got the Carolina job this year.

It looks like we are losing Kyle Smith over this shift in personnel. Really talented and well respected by fans here, most of us wanted him to get the GM job here. SF is one of the rumored destinations perhaps taking Mayhews old position. Lots of people freaking out over losing him. My opinion is we need to trust RR and give him a few years to complete his staff to his liking. Also word has it Kyle Smith bowed up at Snyder in the draft room about taking Haskins which was Snyders pick(hopefully learned his lesson). So he's out here unfortunately. Third round picks are pretty valuable. Could turn out being Kyle Smith for Martin Mayhew. If SF gets a third WFT should at least get a fifth for the hire.

Next up for us is QB. We are expecting Smith to retire hopefully or be cut. Smith would be a good front office hire for us. Matt Stafford in a trade keeps popping up.

Nice Cans, China Rider!

It's from Three Heads Brewery :-)

So is Brady heading for his tenth Super Bowl?

If Brady goes and looses he will be tied with Elway, Tarkenton, and Kelly for the most loses in a Superbowl.

No Ken, he's not.

Packers - Title Town.jpg

Packers - Bikini Girls_0.jpg

Should come down to the final drive this afternoon. I'm leaning Packers but wouldn't be surprised if Brady pulls it off.

Oh, man. First half was a mess.

...Tampa Bay.jpg

GOAT's gonna' GOAT.

Packers should have gone for it on 4th down.

Aaron Rodgers in the red zone is about as lethal as it gets, that was their best chance.

And even though as always in the playoffs the refs mostly tried to stay out of the game, that penalty at the end HAD to be called. It was way too obvious.

Good for Arians, who seems like a good guy, and Brady is Brady, what are you gonna' do?

And congratulations to zoner BOTB, who doesn't post anymore but as I recall is a big Bucs fan.

A happy day for her.

Not going for it ranks right up there with Seattle not running the ball from the 1

Fuckin A!!!!!!!

Tampa

GB coach blew it on the FG choice. - He's gonna have hell to pay.

Guy bet $3,500 on Tampa to win the NFC at the beginning of the season. Collects $288k

Looks like the bet was 8K, not $3,500. Maybe I'm reading it wrong. But still a helluva call.

Man, what a disappointment. Pack had opportunities, especially when Brady is intercepted 3 straight drives. That doesn't happen.

Yeah, that last PI call had to be called, given that shirt being pulled. But given the other calls that weren't called, that was tough.

Yeah, go for it on fourth down.

I want to go back and see, but it looked to me that Rodgers had a chance to run it in on 2nd and 3rd down (or at least to the 2 on 2nd down) on that last series. I wanna see those replays. He may have been too intent on passing and passed up the running TD. Opportunity missed. Looked like that right side had some room to run.

The last 13 seconds of the first half was sure costly.

Oh well, looks like another "See ya next year" for the Pack.

Brady was pretty good and I thought he was real nice about sharing the spotlight with his team post-game and hugging his son. I hate him a little less.

And Belichik doesn't look as smart as I used to think he was. He was lucky to have Brady making him look good.

The refs were letting most things go, as usual in the playoffs, but that penalty was just too obvious, and the ref STILL didn't want to call it, with the flag coming in so late.

Maybe it should have been defensive holding, not PI, but either way it had to be called. Pack fans can't complain about that one (but of course they will anyway).

Ultimately, if the DB hadn't of yanked that jersey the receiver would have been WIDE open, Brady almost certainly would have hit him and the guy could have rambled maybe all the way for a TD and the game would have been over right then, so he sort of HAD to yank the guy back.

And I imagine Rodgers will get criticized for not trying to run it in on the 3rd down play, and from the comfort of TV angles he probably should have, but he's a slow old man in the middle of craziness. Probably a bad decision, but in the heat of the moment he did his best.

The coach on the other hand...

Until he wins a Super Bowl, he'll never live down that field goal decision.

It's always easy to criticize from the cheap seats, but there really was no major upside to kicking the FG. If they didn't get the TD on 4th down they still would have had a chance, with the Bucs stuck against their own end zone. And the great Aaron Rodgers in the red zone? Oh well.

Condolences Slick. It always sucks to lose.

And Rodgers comes back to the Pack for one more shot next year, right?

Thanks Lance, but while I like to have fun having someone to root for, I don't take it too seriously. These guys make waaaaaay too much money playing a game for me to get teary for them.

Rodgers sounds pretty frustrated (pissed)  judging from the post-game comment I saw. I was just kind of noting the difference with the "changing of the guard" folks talked about this week.

Two old guys going up against each other while two young guys went against each each other. About those last plays,  I thought "If that was Mahomes, GB touchdown." That ability makes the difference between winning and losing.

Still hope to get to Lambeau some day. Maybe Rodgers will still be there, maybe not. 57 over/under for the SB. Hmmmmm.

>>>These guys make waaaaaay too much money playing a game for me to get teary for them<<<

Well, I tend to not get too teary for the players either, I'm always about the fans, but it's a hell of a "game" those guys play, and they earn every single dime they make. And it's only in the past few years that most of them have made even close to what they earn.

The level of physical & mental sacrifice each & every one of them make to play their game is almost unheard of in any line of work.

Drew Brees played important games after having multiple ribs broken and his lung punctured.

In the Bills/Chiefs game this past week, Cole Beasley played with a broken fibula... "There's no way I'm not playing in a playoff game."

And on & on & on.

It's one of the many, may reasons that I love the NFL.

There is no such a thing as a "slacker" in the NFL.

Not a single Barry Bonds in the bunch.

Not even in the same universe.

Watched a bit of the Bucs/GB replay last night- Rodgers definitely would've scored if he had run that 3rd and goal in.

Hey- ya' make yer' choices...

Yeah, kinda thought so, Earl. Even on that 2nd down play it looked like there was some daylight, maybe not a TD, but danged close.

Well, just shows to go ya, even the most seasoned pros can make mistakes under extreme pressure. They're humans after all.

If they hadn't blown that coverage on the last play of the first half, it would not have been an issue.

Congrats on your Bucs, Earl. Tampa Bay's been having a few good years now sports-wise. Hope you're having a good time with it.

Yeah- a Stanley Cup, a World Series and then a Super Bowl (home!) is pretty rare air... all squeezed into about 7 months.

Thanks, Slick- sports capital of the world- we'll take it.  ;-)

Ryan Leaf might be an exception.

Yes he may of been able to run it in, but maybe not, but like everyone else watching I am sure he thought he would have another play on 4 th down

as stated before I am a Browns fan, but I moved to Florida and I figured I had to find a team in Florida to pull for, and I also did not want to subject my future kids to possibly becoming browns fans. Miami? no they beat the Browns in the playoffs before, x'd them off the list, Jacksonville, not a chance they started off in the AFC central with the browns. So I settled into becoming a burnt orange bucs fan with the weird looking pirate mascot. They stunk so it also felt comfortable. Sunday my hatred of New England had me rooting for Green Bay. Just goes to prove there is only room in this heart for one team

go browns!

Maybe I should bump my Florida Foursome thread. Bucs would make 3/4 of that foursome and the gators the only ones without a ship this year

As a Bear fan and having endured Favre and Rodgers carve them up for Sunday brunch for the past few decades I admit I take satisfaction in watching the pack get sent packing, by a team the Bears beat this year no less.

What do you say Earl and Fabes.

Lets trip balls and stumble the parking lot for a couple of extras?

A few years back a dude was selling boomers in the lot
