Non-partisan "dead man's switch" re: elections?

Forums:

Could be one of the more interesting ideas I've come across, but wonder if in reality it all reverts to being House of Cards'd?

In other words, I think the temptation for politicians to embrace a thumb on the scale if they believe its in their favor is just too great.

However, if a non-partisan protocol is established with independent oversight power, then perhaps there's something to this idea.

There isn't an iota of evidence that one vote was altered because of any foreign interference.  This stuff has been going on for decades and we're as guilty as any other country.   It's getting a lot of attention now because Trump won, period.  If Hillary had won this "story" would never have seen the light of day.

And good luck ever finding a "non-partisan protocol" that could be "established with independent oversight power".

Thom it's getting attention because both the House and Senate committees along with a special console are investigating it.

Keep pushing the talking points though.

Rachel Maddow Reveals Why the Senate Is So Eager to Halt the Russia Probe 'in Its Tracks'

The MSNBC host suggests Republicans know the investigation will sink Trump's presidency.

Senate Republican are desperately trying to stop the investigations into President Donald Trump and his campaign’s possible collusion with Russia, according to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow.

The Wednesday opener to her show outlined the Senate Judiciary Committee’s task of investigating Trump’s alleged obstruction of justice.

“We’re now seeing Republicans on that committee kind of go after the investigation itself in a way that has really been picked up on, in a way that hasn’t been widely reported today,” Maddow said. “It’s happening in plain sight.”

Republicans are requesting the same documents the FBI got warrants for pertaining to Trump, the campaign and the White House.

“These Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee are now asking about why you started that investigation, what you have, what you submitted to the court, how you got your warrants,” Maddow explained. “What they appear to be up to is trying to discredit the FBI for having started this investigation at all. What they are implying is that the whole FBI investigation all stemmed from that dossier of allegations against Trump and his campaign that was published in Buzzfeed in January, the Christopher Steele dossier. They’re saying implicitly that the dossier of materials is unproven and suspect and that that’s what the FBI’s whole investigation is based on, and therefore, it’s nonsense.”

She went on to conclude that the Senate Republicans are “trying to stop this thing in its tracks before it comes to its conclusion.”

Yet Orange Man Child is still prattling on about the "rigged" election/voter fraud.  So I assume Thom believes in that conspiracy, but not any involving Russia?  Selective Dementia . . .

I'm a bit confused. If "Russia" or any other nation or person tries to "mislead" through statements or media or other actions or means (Hillary email investigation at 11th hour), I believe it is the individual voters responsibility to believe or not believe what they are being fed/told. I don't see that as 'interfering". Haters gonna hate and liars gonna lie. On the other hand, if the actual votes are or can be altered, that needs attention. Too much trust in automated systems in my opinion. Or am I just being misled by the article below that the voting systems aren't secure?

Full transparency-> I don't like nor trust either political party (or 2016 POTUS candidate). It's Kabuki theater if you ask me.

I know it's not quite the same , but didn't the banks lie about LIBOR rates for years before being caught?

>>>>>>> I believe it is the individual voters responsibility to believe or not believe what they are being fed/told.

Mmmmmm Kayyyyyy, if you believe that Sincerely in "individual voters" taking their "responsibility" seriouslee, I've got a bridge for sale, really great deal, only 145+ years old.

dear god, do you ever go to websites other than alternet? common dreams doesn't count.

this investigation has been going on for some time, nothing has been brought forward to prove any of the myriad accusations.

.......and what NealC said

>> god, do you ever go to websites other than alternet? common dreams doesn't count

I've seen him link huffington post.

Ironic that he rejected my editorial linked from Forbes yesterday for being too biased a source.

Mmmmmm Kayyyyyy, if you believe that Sincerely in "individual voters" taking their "responsibility" seriouslee, I've got a bridge for sale, really great deal, only 145+ years old.<<<<

Not sure I follow you Bob? Are you saying individual voters should be told what to believe? And by the way, I don't believe you actually own a bridge, but somebody else might and I can't really be responsible for them.

Besides, I think the Biderberg Group and the like has as much or more to do with how the world turns then the POTUS and Legislative branch. Doesn't Weir sing something like "enough money to but a whole god damn government today" in Throwing Stones. "You believe what you want to believe" and I respect it as well as what everybody else has to say.

No I'm saying that individual voters don't take their responsibility to be informed very seriouslee.

Ha Ha quoting Bob Weir, a Bilderberger/Bohemian Grover himself, now THAT'S irony.

Oh and I own some Bridges, they may be HO Scale size, but Bridges nonetheless . . .

Oh, BTW they haven't investigated or audited the vote. SO there is that.

So how about that iota Thom?

Here's something else... Take it with a grain of salt, it's just the Wall Street Journal... lol
