hope fish and co are ok

^^^^ I just texted Garyfish and Mark D to check in.

Matanaska is up in the Emerald Triangle too.

Sounds like things were rocking and rolling.  Hope they get the power hooked back up fast.

The first three years I lived there, I was living in a tumbledown shack just behind the sand dunes on the Samoa Peninsula. A big 7.0+ quake with a tsunami was an existential dilemma.  They happen roughly every 300 years there, with the last one on January 26, 1700:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1700_Cascadia_earthquake

A quake like that (granted, it was at least an 8.4), would take out the Samoa Bridge and the smaller bridge across the Arcata Bottoms, essentially stranding the folks out on the peninsula, who would face being drowned by the tsunami.  I timed myself at about 5 minutes to run to the top of the highest dune, probably not enough time if the epicenter was just offshore.

Glad that didn't happen today.  Y'all stay safe!

I'm with family in Syracuse, NY for the holidays... and word I'm getting from Humboldt is, all is well on the home front. Widespread power outages, and a few road closures, but that is to be expected from a magnitude 6.4 quake. Coincidentally, a 6.2 shaker happened exactly a year ago, with that epicenter located much closer to where I live. Keepin' it weird...

Thanks to Llollo for the heads-up by text, and for all the well-wishes from you freaks.

Happy solstice to all

Westcoast gets all the shakes

Thanks Garyfish, good to hear all is good with you.

Matanaska and Ebeth are okay, with some breakage. (Facebook)

I got a phone alert but it was way north of me and I did not even feel it.

2 Killed Several Injured  WoW !

My sister in No. Berkeley was awakened a few nights ago by quite a jolt. Anyone else in the East Bay or anywhere around there feel it?

Hope everyone is well.

Governor Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency for Humboldt County...

here's a brief summary of the Humboldt earthquake event, mostly in layperson's terms, that was posted on Twitter:

A friend of mine in Fort Bragg's house was totally trashed. Just awful.

^^^ Thanks, Gary, that was well done.

I was just looking at the CalDOT map to see where roads are closed... as next week after Phil, I was hoping to stop in Arcata for 1 or maybe 2 nights of JGB on my way back north.

Now I'll wait and see, it looks like 101 is closed between the Ferndale cutoff north to the King Salmon area.

Sorry about your friend's house, Woz.  Love the Ft. Bragg area....there's a cool place to stay near there that used to be a commune: https://www.howardcreekranch.com/

Llollo, Highway 101 is presently OPEN in NorCal... you can check current road conditions at the following CalTrans website: https://roads.dot.ca.gov/roadscell.php

Thanks Garyfish!  Will there be any additional DNB warmups for NYE next week?

I don't want to go to River Theater but I'd love to see the band while I'm in the area.
