Northern Exposure.

Forums:

good show.

Great show, especially the earlier seasons!

Great memories of gathering at my brother's place with a few friends each week to watch.  The earlier seasons were absolutely the best in my opinion and while I remained committed to the end, it just wasn't the same once Maggie and Joel got together.  I never liked Dr. Fleischman's replacement either, or MIke Monroe for that matter.  So many really great episodes though throughout the series.

One of my all-time favorites! Great quirky characters and well written story lines - damn I miss that show. Anybody else remember Crime Story with Dennis Farina? A great series ruined (and ended) by a writer's strike. It was a period piece (1950's) about Chicago and the early days of Las Vegas and the mob done in the 1980's.

The way I recall that one episode when the towns version of the running of the bulls was must see tv.

They ran naked.

and then the episode where the mania hit because of the spring melt when the ice broke....

Great show.

"Twin Peaks without the evil"

This.

Great show until then.

You guys get to attached. The other couple was fine. We got to see more quirkiness.

What about the wealthy Tribe dad. Total douche?

I actually searched hulu netflix etc,  but none of them had it, Now I have fire tv with kodi they have every episode

Great show, great writing, great characters.

I think the guy who played the radio DJ did the narrating for "The Wonder Years". I think.

Ed. He had my heart.

Chris in the morning was a crush of another kind.

I found a Northern Exposure calendar (can't remember what year) and a little N.E. notebook going through Greg's stuff. I wish I could remember where I put them.

I think Chris is the voice of Applebee's.

This was one of my favorite shows! I just loved it. Great characters all around. I may need to revisit this one soon.

A really nice former-Zoner and now Viva lurker corrected me. Thanks bud.

"The DJ was not the voice of the narrator on Wonder Years, that was Daniel Stern from Diner and Home Alone

The DJ is John Corbett who has always been busy in both tv and film most know for My Big Fat Greek Wedding."

Daniel Stern was also in City Slickers.

Holy S**t! I put this up and there's a Jen sighting! Yeah!

People say my town of Talkeetna was the inspiration for the show.  There are many similarities for sure.  But instead of a Jewish doctor from NYC we had an interesting one from Ohio.  He was about 5'4", always wore furs, carried a .45 long barrel that he loved to check at the bar, drove a Ford Fiesta, and had a sheep dog that would ride on the back of his 4 wheeler wearing aviator goggles.  He was much more interesting than Fleischman.  Unfortunately, he passed away a few years back.

That show had a lot to do with my moving to AK.  We have a local radio station too, but the hosts are not nearly as entertaining.  Most of the female pilots are more hard core as well.

Hi Slick!! :)

So nice to see you here, Jen!

Adam was a favorite character of mine and especially in the episode "The Big Feast"

I found the calendar and notebook (strange, I didn't look for them, they just appeared in front of me this morning).

The Official 1994 Calendar and Pocket Notebook, still shrinkwrapped together. I think there's another set of them, loose.

Funny how that works, Judit.

That 1994 calendar will work perfectly for you in 2022.

>>> So nice to see you here, Jen!

Thanks Judit!! I forgot my password and so gave up for a bit.

Happy Birthday, Slick! I hope you and the wife celebrated and had a great time last night!

I have a 1998 calendar (amazing little watercolor paintings of everyday things from the south of France ) that hangs always. It was accurate a couple of years ago - that was fun. 2022 isn't that far away.

Yes, Happy Birthday, Slick! And what Jen said.

I remember an episode where a relative of the Dr.'s secretary was a middle aged native medicine man/shaman who was having a mid-life thing and wanted to study "alternative" medicine with Joel, considering the allopathic model to be alternative for him. Loved that twist.

'98 worked in '09 and '15. Not again until 2026. But it's nice you have some favorite images to enjoy, no matter the day or year.

I enjoyed many of the characters, especially the Native American woman in the office.

Some pics to spur memories...

There was a bar 30-40 minutes from Seattle which served as the exterior shots for the NE  bar.  At least that is what a dude who lived in Seattle said.

Soo we did go there and have a pint,  and I can't recall the name of the place or Town.  It was 25 years ago.  Place had a lot of brick.

Some hardcore fan will know:  "That's the Mangy Moose in Snoqualmie !!"  but I really can't remember.

OK,  it was 'The Brick Tavern'  in Roslyn,  WA.  Link above has all sorts of info.

I liked that Holling character. In particular the way he gave up hunting with guns and moved to shooting animals with cameras instead. i like that idea. Might be why I take so many photos of wildlife!

I have to say that I've probably seen 2 1/3 episodes of NE over the years.  At the time it was current,  I did not have TV very often and was busy with real-life activities.  Either I was exploring the Pacific Northwest,  working,  or playing Music.

Maybe sometime I'll sit down & watch the first couple of Seasons.  Recently found 'First Season' DVD sets of "X-Files"  &  "Fringe" at the junque-shoppe.  To me they are the most amusing episodes,  with director & talent on full creative throttle.

Holling is in rut.
