Obama as VP

Forums:

Biden should just announce Barack Obama has his VP in the 2024 race. Either Barack or Michelle, I wouldn't care which.  Maybe don't announce it for awhile, but I think it would close out any chance of Trump winning.  Not that he has much of a chance now, but any chance is too much.  Certainly Kamala Harris and her supporters would be pissed, but I think the reality of the situation would calm tensions over time.  If Trump wins the nation is done.  A Biden/ Obama ticket is as sure of a win as you can get and really nothing else matters.

I don't think that is constitutional for Barack. He could be VP but if Biden dies he couldn't be President. Also I think after two Bush's and Hillary people are done with dynasties.

The Democrats could put Jesus Christ on the ticket and Republicans would still ruthlessly attack him. I mean they are apocalyptic about milquetoast Biden.

I think we would all be better off not focusing on the person and focusing on the policies their administration will  enact regardless of who is in charge, and unless there is a blue wave next year which could happen because of abortion Dems aren't going to hold the Senate so not much will happen even if Biden wins. I think the Dems will win the House no matter what.

I know there are polls that show a Trump - Biden tie, but I don't put much value in summer before election polls. The undecideds are going to break overwhelmingly for Biden. Young people especially are pissed about his age right now, but no matter what people tell you there are only two choices in American general election and not voting for those choices is the same as not voting at all.

I'm honestly more worried that Trump won't win the primary which I think is still a possibility. His ideas are the Republican party now and someone else could be just as dangerous, but slip in because people don't think he or she is Trump.

^The Republican party has embraced Christofascist authoritarianism. I think most people discount the threat the Republicans are to democracy. Ignorance and apathy lead too many cynical fools to refuse to see the vast differences between the parties.

The 22nd Amendment restricts a candidate from being elected to the presidency for more than two terms. The 12th Amendment dictates that a vice president can not be selected if they are not eligible for president.

Thanks for the enlightenment Surfdead.  I wasn't aware of the 12th amendment restriction. So the ticket will be Biden/Harris.  I personally am ok with Biden, but seems the polls are showing many are not very keen on our President.

Get ready.

John Brown.

Even if Obama could run as VP, I think there's a good chance that would galvanize the loonies on the Right even further. In a way, I think it was his getting elected President that got a lot of those miscreants to step into the daylight after living mostly in the shadows for so many years.

Good point Mike.

case in point: "obama isn't a U.S. citizen, he was born in KENYA" circa 2007-ish

that ain't the worst idea I've heard
