This Old Building (Winterland Content)

Jarid's pretty proud of those shot's.

Yeah, that site is really just a variation on/a promo for his book.

Pretty funny actually, so much ado over one show.

But what a show it was.

It did have a lifelong effect on me.

So I guess it is worth a bit of ado.

And in honor of that, and this thread, I'll put up a couple of shots I took (with my friends camera) from that night that I don't think I've posted before...

And this one, which I didn't take but I've always loved because I was standing no more than ten feet to the right of the great Michael Zagaris when he took this shot. It always brings back memories...

I used to sit in those seats -

1st row in back of the stage

you could almost reach out and touch the drummers

I like seeing your photos, Lance.

Lance's shots>Jarid's shots.

Good work sir, thanks for posting.

I did enjoy hearing your story about getting tickets for this show; I think we were even talking

with one of your buddies that went with you.

Awesome stuff, storied venue, who's got the sign???????

Lance did you contact Jarid to relay your Winterland stories? There's a cafe on the corner of Steiner and Sutter  that I stopped in once and in the bathroom were some great photos of Winterland. At first I didn't get the connection. As far as  defunk skating rinks, there was one on 48th/Kirkham in the Sunset that we played broom ball hockey at. I couldn't imagine actually skating on that ice!

I know Jarid in a very casual way, and I did relay a story to him.

I guess it was too long.

Imagine that.

I have a brick. A part of a brick, actually.

We were driving by in 85 when they were tearing it down and there was a pile of stuff, and my friend stopped and we loaded up his truck with these big wooden beams. He used them to build a house near Covalo.

I always thought it was cool that there was a cabin house in the middle of nowhere whose bones "heard" some incredible music.

my bones loved it

and verbose one - work on it

>>>and verbose one - work on it<<<

Meh.

Full thoughts fleshed out are still a good thing, despite the common modern way of dumbing everything down to one-syllable, half-sentence gruntings.

Actually, it's been a long time since I've penned a long essay here, but it's my zone image and I like to play into the simplistic perception.

Shallow end of the pool stuff, but so much easier.

And perception IS reality, after all.

Anyway, here's another shot of the wonderful, legendary room, just before the wonderful, legendary madness began (I didn't take this one either)...
