Deadicated to Music. And a Place to have Fun....

FUN..

Ok ok

At that time there were hundreds of folks here. Now there are like 4.

Those guys all went to the John Mayer board

I disagree, Brian. There are five of us here at least.

It all went to hell when the dedication to music and the fun were left for dead.

What a travesty.

Now we're left to pick through what's left.

Oh well, it's better than nothing.

On it goes?

I do wonder how many people post regularly.  Is it like 30 even?  25?

the best part is that all 5 of us are real people

Kind of rose-colored lenses here.  If I recall, the OP got relentlessly trolled and called Cryotte on the old board.  Not much of that on Viva.

We're a good group here.  I'd guesstimate that there are 60-100 regular posters to this board.

39.7?

I'm at least .32 of that.

And that's why those ass clowns are gone

I'd rather be bored here than open up the screen with agida every time

Herbal Dave , I got called out over a Lie for, The left For Dead Episode...  I was vindicated by OG Zoners, who knew the actual truth about what went down, They remained silent on the board for a long time because of the nastiness and the personal attacks. ... Personally I never really gave a fuck..... I freebied tons of music and many many Tickets for years, I dont see that happening much here anymore..

> I'd guesstimate that there are 60-100 regular posters to this board.

Maybe we should do a roll call thread. Like a census.

Or like elementary school... and we're all kids on this bus.

> Or like elementary school

So we should arrange ourselves by height?

Evolution. Things change.

Real OG's never bail out

> So we should arrange ourselves by height? <

Ha ha, I'll be first in line if we start with shortest. (I've shrunk to 4' 11" from my previous tallest of 5' 1/2"), or start with oldest.

I Still have a Mountain of CDs Collected Freebies and or b and ps  tape and trade section

same people

I never left.... although I probably helped chase a few off

I still drop in from Time to time...

Never was a big poster, mostly like to meet up in 3D.

I pee'd on a squegee to amuse the zone ....

And I can't wash my windshield without wondering.....

"Miles, why don't you play like you used to play?"

"How did I used to play?"

Nice place to start he day.  Many great folks still here.  And on we go....

My password never works and when I try to reset it I always just get a one time link to log in sent to my email. How can I get a link to set a new password without knowing the old password? I'm guessing this happened to some others who used to post on here and now they just read the posts but can't reply.

jg8142, email [email protected]. They'll hook you up.

I'm not even a lurker, but I'm here now. What's up?

Walkers rule!

well, post some music and fun then cryotte....jeez

Yes, this >>> well, post some music and fun then cryotte....jeez

Floops, glad you're here for the moment (or however long).

Howdy folks!

Here's a little JGB for ya's....

Hello floopster. And Judit :)

How're you doing, nedb? Winter begins, we move through whatever we're dealing with...

Hope you're staying dry out there, judit.

We could use some snow.

I'm dry, the skies aren't.

Thanks.

FUN: Going to see Jerry's Middle Finger at the Troubadour tonight!

I'm not driving. Pretty stoked

Sounds like FUN, Turtle

What was the Other One?

"My password never works and when I try to reset it I always just get a one time link to log in sent to my email."

My password just checked in to find out what condition my password is in.

Mike I don't know but It trembled and exploded, left a bus stop in its place

Took me nine tries to log in this time

it's not the password

i just really suck at math

I'm thankful the Captcha math question doesn't involve calculus.   Thanks, Viva admin.

i feel like the zone has gone thru a normal and expected downturn in activity. AFAIK most of us regular posters are west coasters and east coasters - people who for the most part could at least occasionally drive out to TXR or the cap, even if it needed to be an overnight trip. east coasters have lots of other related shows to see at the cap, bb, etc, and west coasters have the DNB and the whole crew of local gd-adjacent players like kimock.

its easy for us to forget - there are tons of people in the middle of the country who get none of this. phil no longer comes anywhere near where they live, they dont have a DNB or interesting russo projects to see, and at best they get a bob weir show and a JRAD show per year. its easy for me to imagine how my activity here could have waned a lot more, a lot earlier than it did, if i was not able to see regular TXR and DNB shows. i know we still have some folks who live in the middle of the country and abroad, but still, its a pretty strong and understandable reason for gradually reducing your interactions with the zone.

there is also a big drop in activity for older internet forums overall, as the internet focuses more and more on centralized content aggregation sites like facebook, reddit and twitter. at the time i joined the philzone, i was also on several other forums, mostly dedicated to psychedelics. the zone has outlasted most of these, and these were not random inactive forums, these were tight knit communities where MANY in person meetups and illicit trades were conducted, which hosted absolutely huge amounts of informative content and all kinds of discussion. many things that today are standard all over the psychedelic community started on these kinds of forums, many of which are gone now and some have been gone for many, many years. the kind of reduction in activity we see here is sadly the norm for really any specialized internet forum. TBH its more surprising how active the zone still is, considering all the above factors, not to mention the original zone shut down and we're now using an offshoot board. there were even multiple potential offshoots, and a core group still managed to avoid a fatal fracture. thats pretty impressive TBH. the zone is also STILL superior to any other GD related discussion board.

Just got back from the JMF show. Sorry I'm 60 years late but the Troubadour is amazing. Acoustics are LOUD and clear. Like not normal clear/crisp. Ears are ringing. Anyone seen socal big bill?? Terrific show tonight. Wish I had a ticket for tomorrow. Band is A++ .

And people say I'm verbose.

Good to hear you had a good show turtle, and at a classic venue.

That's far out.

Keep on chooglin' folks, that's all any of us can do.

>>phil no longer comes anywhere near where they live

indecision

In the beginning there was only a black screen, even the stars were dark.

And on the first day God said, “Let there be a Jerry to emit sonic frequencies throughout the cold silent emptiness.” And the vibrations begat warm shining light, and it was good.

And on the second day God said, “Let there be a Bob to paint the remaining void with strumming.” And unseen colors were revealed.

And on the third day God said, “Let there be a Bill to add drums to space, so all my creatures may dance.”

And on the fourth day God said, “Let there be a PigPen, so man will take his hands out or his pockets and go forth and procreate.”

And on the fifth day God said, “Let there be a Phil, for my universe needs an all pervading melodic rumble, so it may be forever shaken, not stirred.”

And on the sixth day God said, “Let there be an Internet, so everyone may participate in the scriptures and record the glory of music and life in general. And you shall call it the Zone. And it shall live long.” And the black screen filled with white text scribbled by scribes with orange-sunshine-tinged names.

And on the seventh day God said, “This indica strain is making me sleepy. I need a nap. Go do your thing.”

And thus it was so.

Good to hear you had a good show turtle, and at a classic venue.  <<<

This !

Tonight JGB is playing at the local JCC. The venue, Gordon Center, seats 500 and sounds really, really good.  It's mainly used for student dance recitals, graduations, and battle-of-the-boomer-cover-bands (Stones vs Beatles sort of thing).

They've had Hot Tuna there once before and occasionally acts like Los Lobos and Bela Fleck -- but it's definitely not a get up and dance smoke weed hippie show type place.

It will be interesting to see who shows and what happens.

Turts, Every song JMF does, no matter who made the song famous, was done by Jerry w/ JGB at one point.

Does anybody remember laughter?

I copy/pasted from setlist.com markd

Well, Melvin and JGB was a vastly different band than when I saw them several years ago. I used to see him/ them fairly regularly but this may be the first time with the "new" drummer and JK.

It was certainly not a copy of the original Jerry with the Jerry Garcia Band at the Warfield-type show at all. More like a new Melvin and Friends variation (trying to stay relevant) than ever before. That part was disappointing, I was there for the nostalgia. So was the rest of the boomer crowd -- average age 60 - 70. At least people were standing and dancing.

Without the two female backup singers it really loses its Jerry-ness (my brain automatically kept putting the harmonies in). Add to that that they play a much more diverse setlist, including a long poly-rhythmic / electronica drum solo (shades of Jason Hann String Cheese), popular Dead tunes, and long jazzy instrumental jams. Music I never heard at any Jerry Garcia Band show.

For someone who likes the spotlight on him, Melvin was unusually reserved last night -- he barely said a word --- he didn't even ever introduce the band.  Lame. However, his organ sounded great in that small theater. Church-like. JK started out a little meek but by second set, acted like he was the star. He did ok, but with so many Jerrys out there, his expertise is diluted nowadays. Dummer was good but very "busy" -- definitely not David Kemper style. Bass player has always been solid but they have him singing a lot  -- which is weird if you are expecting a John Kahn. (It also seems like they put his voice through a doubling device or a filter of some sort to mimic female voicings -- I'm not sure what I was hearing.  It seemed a little gimmicky.) The musicians are certainly talented and the band is polished but I'd rather see this 4 piece band in a bar, rather than in a theater. They had a bar band vibe.

All in all, a good show but treading on "just another jamband" territory.

The amusing part to me was smelling so much weed burning in this "straight" venue where I used to attend arts and crafts summer camp "graduation" with my class of first graders.

Hey Turts, I was not disputing who wrote the songs, just throwing in a side note.

And yeah JGB has been disappointing the last couple times I have seen them. Too much Dead and not enough JGB. And I miss the girls.
