Well gosh darn it.   Fucking cops.

Is the jury in the Chauvin case sequestered? I have to believe this new incident could influence their view of Minneapolis cops.

>>>>Is the jury in the Chauvin case sequestered?

From what I understand, the jury has been sequestered since the start of the trial.   Still, the defense moved the court for permission to bring the jurors back in and ask them if they had heard about this and whether that would influence their decision.   The judge denied the motion.

Oscar Grant all over again?

I was under the impression that the judge had not and, given the "recent developments", will not sequester the jury either - at least until deliberations begin?

Ooops is right...gun vs taser, after it was expired tags on the car...OR was it air fresheners hanging from the mirror (a primary offense in MN?!?). Fkn Mess.

Curfews being declared in the Minneapolis area. It's going to get harder to keep this under wraps.

I feel for the citizens of MN

Not a mistake, the officer who murdered the black man was a 25 year veteran cop. Last police shooting she was invoked with she instructed 2 other cops to turn off their body  camera

If the jury's verdict doesn't go Chauvin's way, I'm wondering if the judge's denial of that motion could form the basis of an appeal.

Apparently, these have been popping up in the Twin Cities.

I understand due to the current situation there in Minnesota how some cops might get nervous easily and make a mistake. But if you are the kind of cop that would be nervous under such scrutiny,  you probably should not be a cop.

Just a Pawn in the mistrial game

Shooter Cop has just resigned.

....and police chief as well. good timez.

Well, that was a blatant lie he told about a 25 year veteran of the force mistaking a taser for a gun. Guess it's back to 'just a couple of bad apples' instead of address systemic racism in policing.

Wow, just saw a post on a friend's page that might explain the shooting

>I’m convinced she’s a chaos agent and this was a deliberate attempt to force a mistrial in the George Floyd murder case. She’s too involved in the police hierarchy to be this naive. But a polarizing shooting blocks away from the site of Floyd’s murder might “prejudice a jury”. The defense sees how badly its going. Her actions were designed to help the murderer beat the rap!

That was my point with the pawn comment above

That's a pretty extreme attempt to force a mistrial, which would just kick the can down the road.

I'm about the same age Robert Hunter was when he wrote these lines, and I think I understand them much better now unfortunately.

Summer flies and August dies
The world grows dark and mean

"Not all cops..."

>just kick the can down the road

true. sadly, it was just another racist cop executing another black man. timing is awfully convenient though, so it's easy to see the conspiracy angle.

just goes to show how often these types of racist police  actions occur.

We haven't used Daunte Wright's name in this thread yet. It matters.

Apparently, the police chief who just resigned said at a press conference yesterday that the officer who killed Wright deserved due process. The mayor (I think it was) responded that Wright didn't get due process, so why should the officer?

And yeah, just another cop, racist or not, executing another black man. This darkness got to give,

I don't get how a career cop could confuse the two. I could be buzzed at midnight, in the midst of a savage jam, and still know the difference between my volume and my wah pedals.

The cop was either grossly incompetent or is lying.   Either way Daunte Wright didn't have to die and there will be consequences.

On January 30, 2010, Alameda County prosecutors charged Officer Mehserle with second-degree murder in their indictment for the shooting. Mehserle resigned from his position and pleaded not guilty. The trial began on June 10, 2010. On July 8, 2010, Mehserle was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and not guilty of the murder charge and voluntary manslaughter.

Though initial protests on July 8, 2010, against the jury verdict were peacefully organized, after dark there were incidents of looting, arson, destruction of property, and small riots. Nearly 80 people were eventually arrested. On November 5, 2010, Mehserle was sentenced to two years, minus time served. He served his time in Los Angeles County Jail protective custody, held in a private cell for his safety. On June 13, 2011, Mehserle was released under parole after serving 11 months.[1]

Oakland civil rights attorney John Burris filed a $25 million wrongful death claim against BART on behalf of Grant's family. BART settled with Grant's daughter and mother for a total of $2.8 million in 2011. It also settled with several of Grant's friends who had sued for damages because of police brutality. A separate suit by Grant's father did not result in a jury award, as it was decided that due to his imprisonment he was not sufficiently involved in Grant's life.

They arrested Officer Potter (the shooter) for second-degree manslaughter.
