Oscars 2025

Forums:

Of the four I have seen I think Emilia Pérez is the best movie. The most interesting movie I've seen in a long time. I don't understand how people are complaining that it isn't realistic. I figured that out every time they broke into song with dancers.

Anora would be second on my list, but I don't think either will win. Probably Wicked or A Complete Unknown

Best Picture Nomination:

Anora

The Brutalist

A Complete Unknown

Conclave

Dune: Part Two

Emilia Pérez

I’m Still Here

Nickel Boys

The Substance

Wicked

Yet another year where I haven't seen any of the nominated movies. I know I'll see A Complete Unknown someday.

Well, yeah. That tends to happen when one doesn't watch movies.

I'm 8 for 10 of the Best Picture nominees. I plan to catch I'm Still Here next weekend (still pleasantly surprised that it made its way onto this list), and I will get around to Emilia Perez... at some point. I'll reserve sharing my thoughts on that one til I've seen it, but I wouldn't say its realism is the thing I'm hearing most complaints around it.

For my money, Nickel Boys earns it. That's a movie with something to say, and a unique way of saying it. But, I think you'll be surprised by Anora come the nite of. As usual, the Academy rose to the occasion with some of their nominations this year, and completely biffed it with some of the others.

For the first time in yrs I have actually sen one of the nominees.  I thought A Complete Unknown was very good. But all I ever hear about(except here) is Wicked. Whatever that is.

I've seen A Complete Unknown and I'm Still Here, and enjoyed both thoroughly.  Anora is next and I'm very much looking forward to it. Thanks for the list, El Nino.

>> I've seen I'm Still Here

This film doesn't get a theatrical release for another week (and even then in limited theaters).

^now I'm trying to figure out what movie it was that I watched...lol

Flow- Go Latvia!!

I am also pulling for Flow. That scene with the secretarybird...

Seed of the Sacred Fig was tremendous, and its production is an achievement unto itself.

Here is a list compiling all of the films which have been nominated (with the exception of the shorts): https://boxd.it/DiT5y

Live action shorts: https://boxd.it/Dj1yS

Animated shorts: https://boxd.it/Dj0SW

Excellent grammar, ateix.

Anora sweep.

Colson Whitehead's book Nickel Boys is a great read.  Look forward to seeing the film version.  Too bad it got shut out last night.

I had seen the winning Documentary Short, The Only Girl in the Orchestra. I liked it.

Of the six I saw Anora was by far the best. Based on some comments I've seen, not here, people think this is going to be some slow plodding movie because it won best picture, but it really isn't. It's funny and tells more than one interesting story. At the end of the day it's a movie about income inequality. Just don't watch it with your kids or your parents.

Anora

Conclave

Dune: Part Two

Emilia Pérez

The Substance

Wicked

Saw 6 of the 10 best movie nominations, but didn't see Anora...    but it's returning to our local indi theater, so going to give it a watch next week.

Didn't see the short films animation, but enjoyed the live action and documentaries.  I would have preferred to see the ICE movie win out over the BOT film, but so it goes.  I was cool with the Only Girl in the Orchestra winning.

I was rooting for Demi Moore from the Substance, and thought Brody would win for the Brutalist (but that gum tossing acceptance speech, meh!).

Tonight saw the Monkey at the indi,  was a pretty funny horror yarn, much better than I was expecting.

Flow supremacy. Capybara for president.

The last good movie was Porky's II and that was a long time ago ('83 to be exact).

You should try pornhub.com, lots of good newer movies for you on there.

So much same Judit lol
