Our local weather guy

Forums:

Screwed up on Friday and lost his job.  I saw this in local news yesterday, surprised it is on CNN today.  Was it an honest mistake?

Maritn Luther Coon King Park?

He called him Maritn?

Horrible....;)

I saw this story late last night...i guess Mike Greenberg did same exact thing years ago, sliding the "U" sound from Luther, before, and Junior , following King, they both tripped over their tongues. Greeny was not fired, obviously.

Reading through comments on Twitter from people that know this guy personally, it sounds like he made an honest mistake. But, he s getting canned. Guess thats the differance between a host of an extremely popular (and lucrative for station) morning show, and a weatherman.

While maybe not an overt act of "hate", it is likely a "Freudian slip"; that is emblematic of an extremely deep subconscious denial of institutional / embedded racism that runs deep in our country ... a remnant of Slavery / Civil War.

Not living in a black neighborhood makes one a racist.

^ are these issues really "black and white"; or, are there many shades of gray?

racism has many shades of grey, but this virtue signaling PC bullshit social media callout culture is pretty black and white

You live around a buncha pale heads, Slack?

Luther and Junior on either side of King can easily make this happen (especially if you're thinking about including the Junior and bungle the King part). This is ridiculous.

Out in the streets, it's a whole other number.

Times are what they are. Any body who presents a voice on a public airway or whatever needs to be 100% watchful of the language they use. It may be extreme and it may be awkward, but it's not as awkward as 500 years of slavery, racism, discrimination, segregation, etc. So you know, it'll take some time to balance things out, but people'll get the hang of it before too long.

Holy shit. He made a mistake, then owned it and apologized.

He didn't call him a big-lipped coon, he mixed up a syllable.
