The name OG has nothing to do with ocean grown.

In fact it does my friend. What do you think it's original gangster?

Mom wants some marijuana for her nausea and lack of appetite.

OG was created indoors hydroponically  by Josh D and Bubba in 96. OG stands for the Original.

In fact it was 93. Read the link. ...is this mountain grown? No this is ocean grown, bro"

Actually looks like 95

OG Kush from San Fernando Valley definitely was not “ocean grown”. Early nineties OG for sure meant “Origiinal”.

It started in Florida and was perfected in So Cal.

If its LA county it's ocean grown according to seedfinder

Ice t's album OG original gangster was released before cypress hill's first album in 91.

SFVOGK is the best imo.

Leafly got it right. Check it.

According to Josh D, OG has nothing to go with ocean or gangster.

Says you.believe what you want. harold putz claims to have coined the term in 95.

was originally discovered in Southern California, where the term “OG” originally meant “ocean grown.”

The term “OG” has generated some confusion in cannabis genetics -- while many assume that the letters are an abbreviation for “original gangster,” they actually signify that a strain is “ocean grown,”

This may be one of those how many licks does it take to get the center of a tootsie pop situation.

If the seedleSs fam or Slightly Stoopid don't weigh in on this, we may never find out.

Thank you Timmy

We’ve already done this thread btw

Only an OG would know that.

Hoover, click the lineage icon of the true og strain.

How about you just post the link?

Since that day, a heated debate has raged in the cannabis community about what exactly the OG stands for in OG Kush.

Given the popularity of the strain in LA, many tokers think it means “Original Gangster” - homage to the hardcore hip hop scene in SoCal in the early 90’s. Close, but no cigar…

Others will swear to you that it means “Ocean Grown”, and that it must be cultivated within a certain number of miles from the breaking waves of the Pacific Ocean to earn the name.

Josh D is amused by the speculation, but definitively ends the debate here once and for all.

“We called it OG because it was authentic… the original,” he says.

Josh B. disagrees

Not sure how an anecdote clears anything up so I’ll refrain from posting the one about how it definitely stands for Ocean Grown

It's on the leafly link that that you posted.

The leafly link I posted says “True OG is a popular indica strain that was originally discovered in Southern California, where the term “OG” originally meant “ocean grown”

Glad we got this sorted out

The original og from 95 was indoor...having nothing to do with proximity to the oceans breeze but because it was created in Sunset Beach, CA.

when a strain from Northern California was crossed with a Hindu Kush plant from Amsterdam.

What was the Northern California strain called?

Scroll down the page and click on  the lineage Icon.

I already posted a link to the lineage above.  Seedfinder

Greg, I read your link. Check out the link posted above.

Forbes:  I’ll bet you have many great strains you’ve enjoyed over the decades, but how did you choose your specific strain of OG Kush?  What does OG Kush stand for?

JDR: "The “OG Kush” lineage starts back in the 1990s - as a local Floridian favorite known as “Krippy” or “Supernaut.”

For years, “Kush” remained a well-kept secret shared within the Florida growers community. OG Kush is not an easy plant to grow: It is sensitive to light and nutrient levels, and very susceptible to pests. I eventually shared these cuttings and knowledge with numerous friends and growers who would eventually spread “OG Kush” cuttings around the world. We chose the name "OG Kush" because of the aroma coming off the plant, the greasy oily trichomes that shine like diamonds. The tear drop triangle shaped nugs have a very low leaf to calyx ratio with a short flowering cycle. Once we tried the first plant, we realized it was something completely different - personally, it was the most profound high I had ever experienced. You can pick a cultivar after you have really gotten to experience it.

OG stands for Original - so Original Kush. It was meant to designate that this specific Kush was grown by our crew in a specific way.

Bubba > anything OG

I'm sensing some cultural inappropriatation going on.   Pretty sure Kush is native to the Afghani/Pakistan border.  And OG is short for Ogee which is related to smooth reverse bevels of 14th century architecture.

After awhile it all becomes GFW.  Good Fucking Weed.   My favorite is the kind in my hand. wink

There were a few years long ago when I smoked nothing but the krippy
