A New Jersey man is suing United Airlines, claiming he was urinated on by a heavily intoxicated passenger sitting next to him.

Daniel Card was on flight 1871 back home from Los Angeles when he says an extremely drunk passenger boarded the flight and sat next to him.

As the cross-country flight prepared for takeoff to Newark Airport, Card alleges in the suit, filed on Wednesday, that the inebriated man next to him in row 24 “took out his penis and aimed it at Card and proceeded to urinate all over Card’s leg, while Card was confined to his seat due to an imminent departure of the flight.”

Card said he tried to wake up the passed out passenger, who smelled strongly of alcohol, but could not. He then alerted the airline crew, who according to the suit, “refused [his] request to relocate his seat.” After several requests, Card says he was finally moved from the urine-soaked seat, but was “forced to endure the remainder of the flight to Newark/New Jersey while remaining in his urine drenched clothing.”

Once the plane landed in Newark Liberty International Airport, law enforcement was there to intervene. The FBI interviewed both Card and the drunk passenger once they were removed from the plane. The drunk passenger said he “had no recollection of the events on the flight, and only remembered being at a bar inside of Los Angeles International Airport, and then landing at Newark Airport.” The passenger also stated he had consumed at least four rum and cokes while at the airport bar in LA.

As part of United’s Contract of Carriage, there is an obligation of the airline to remove “passengers who appear to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs to a degree that the Passenger may endanger the Passenger or another Passenger or members of the crew.”

Card believes law enforcement intervention would not have happened if his father, whom he called to inform of the incident, had not alerted them.

Card is suing for assault, negligence, breach of contract and emotional distress.

In a statement shared with Fox News, United said, “We have not yet been served with this suit and due to the pending litigation involved in this matter, we’re unable to provide further comment.”

Face, are you a frequent flyer?

Definitely not a frequent flyer ... I try to avoid flying if at all possible these days.

are you like a watchdog group?

I fly frequently.

The only problems I ever hear about are the ones that FOM posts on a daily basis. If you don’t fly, why the obsession? Maybe start a blog about the daily atrocities on greyhound busses, I’m sure there’s a treasure trove of outrage for you there.

I'm just fed up with the industry and believe it's in severe need of oversight / regulation.

What would you suggest be done?

An interesting side note to some of the fascination with my fascinations:  most of these "news stories" have been harvested from:

https://news.google.com

... and specifically the "For You" link at the top.

Eventually, Google figures it out with respect to particular content that might be of interest based upon prior selections.  While it's definitely creepy in many ways, the functionality has gotten to be very good at what it does.

What is interesting to me (aside from getting "new material" for the zone) is how this sort of mechanism would seem to steer people to news that might hold a particular bias that they favor & ultimately reinforce said biases over time.

FOM thinks every passenger should be handed a $1M check when boarding a flight. The passenger can tear up the check upon deplaning if satisfied with the service.

Weird that this doesn't freak you out, but other's travel exxperinces do.

I'd answer your question, but not really looking to get into it with ned - "the defender and champion of the status quo"

would you have been peeved also if they had removed the drunkard before taking off?

It totally freaks me out, I'm convinced Google's in cahoots with the NSA ... but until men in black start going door to door in the middle of the night, United Airlines is far worse an "oppressor".

would you have been peeved also if they had removed the drunkard before taking off?<<<

Not at all and this is what gets me.  "Flight attendants" and airline staff are on such a power trip these days that if you look at them cross-eyed or don't say the right words, you stand a good chance of security yanking you out of your seat. Yet, when there's an apparently obvious issue with an intoxicated passenger, they totally miss the boat.

Either way they're getting away with something, Turtle.

Either way they're getting away with something, Turtle.<<<

Now you're catching on.

i don't see them as being on a power trip. people are fucking crude savages and should be regulated.

this is a judgement call. perhaps he seemed fine when he boarded?

basically you don't know.

How can you say this when you don't fly?

I have flown three times in the past 6 weeks. Was given a free round of drinks on two of the three trips (Southwest rocks), all flights were on time, bags arrived just fine, internet blazing the whole way. The flight attendants you try to demonize are humans, and some (not all) of the instances you cite are lame-ass entitled passengers back-peddling after fucking up their own trip (allergy girl, and middle-seat girl).

ps. here's how to make a fuckin' breakfast sammysammy.jpg

When have I ever tried to demonize flight attendants?  Have always maintained they've been put in an impossible situation by the bean counters.  For that matter, I say love the bean counter, hate the bean counting (and pitting everyone against one another).

KitchenAid appliance?!?

But wood re: breakfast sando!
