The Perfect Song

Forums:

Lots of great songs in my personal book of music but I don't think this one will ever be topped.

Ok good choice....

there's a couple songs that are defined "perfect" imho

This one is about as perfectly crafted song as exists. It has dimension, depth, separation and every instrument is played perfectly. From Charlie's perfection to Bills incredible fuzz bass to Micks vox to Keith's low strung solo....

take a listen to the live take from Ya Yas and see how close this song is to Gimme Shelter... also featuring an amazing Watts intro and some awesome Taylor rhythm to maybe Keith's finest lead ever

here's a couple others on my "perfect" song list

All the above are excellent choices.

The odd meter changes of She Said, She Said with IMO Ringo's best drumming along with the harmonies that swirl like they do is what does it for me.

Ringos drumming really takes a lot of their music to the next level, imho. It's a common trait, even among those who should know better,  but those who dismiss Ringo and his contributions aren't really paying attention

Very true. Besides always playing exactly what was needed in a song, Ringo always seemed to be able to do it and look like he was watching the news from the dining room table. Hell, he was often singing as well!

My perfect song - always sounds like genius to me each and every time:

Gotta go with Blind Faith, Can't Find My Way Home.

No deadheads in this room.    ;)

Perfect GD songs? I'd say that UJB, PITB and Jack Straw are just exactly perfect.

"Christmas In the Trenches" by John McCutcheon  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9coPzDx6tA  Great story in this live version.

I prefer the instrumentation on this one.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZNr6LcZcpE

Thread over.  LOL

Perfect ? Ripple, Brokedown, Stella Blue , Friend of the Devil

Some great choices here. I think the thread is more about the perfect "pop" song, rather than one's favorite track. I mean, a 40 minute Dark Star isn't going to make this list (and neither, for that matter, is the 3-minute version). As far as the Dead, I think their best contribution here lies somewhere between Box of Rain and Ripple.

Here's a great one that only takes 2:15: https://youtu.be/ppEfGIGVteo?si=yWdCEQYooERTeHR8
