No idea which phriends yet?

Oh man not this again

wherever  he goes the people all complain...

Logged in at 10:01. Got the usual AXS no tickets available TRY AGAIN.  So I keep trying again which is the way AXS system works from memory then I get the message that I've been identified as a bot. Sleeping in mall parking lots was way easier.

Just got a ticket in the upper balcony. Might try and upgrade, but hey I am in.

Memories of that GD show in 1983 when I scored a ticket out front in the last row in the middle and had a great time.

Then there was 10/13/80 when I got a seat in the front row center (remember when the Warfield had seats on the floor to the stage?)

Yeah I got front row center and second row center for Hartford October 83 sleeping in a parking lot in New Hampshire. Got to see Mickey and Billy eye each other during Stella Blue and then both loudly hitting the drum to bring Jerry out of his nod.

Goldenvoice Presale:  Anyone know code???

Frost per FB

Only upper balcony was available when I tried.

I just got Lower Balcony Row A. There was GA also available. Seems to be available tix on the Goldenvoice presale. Thanks for the password!

Think they have been releasing a few at a time.

Art released (like NYE 2 weeks later), but still no lineup...

IMG_7035.jpeg

Got two in the front row of the upper balcony. Thanks for the code, Zooey.

Just now picked up two GA and quick passes plus a room at the Phoenix.  Thank you Zooey

Thank for code.  Scored floor, yeah.

the no lineup announcement thing is wearing pretty thin, and im guessing its just going to be like this from here on out. i dont think it feels like a bait and switch, i dont think they are actively trying to foist the dishwashers on us, it just seems like they know it will sell anyway so they dont even bother solidifying the lineup before tickets go on sale. i dont think there is any intentional dishonesty or anything like that, it just feels a little bit lazy and inconsiderate. it would be a nice consideration for the picky deadheads that have been pouring money into this thing for years to just announce the lineups.

i would  have liked  to have been at the filmore shows, the lineup seemed decent for 2023 and especially the first night sounds pretty good, but after years of nearly all PLF lineups being bands im not interested in seeing, i still think i made the right choice by skipping those shows. all signs pointed to a lineup i wouldnt be interested in, and even now i feel the same about this one and will probably skip it.

>!t would be a nice consideration for the picky deadheads that have been pouring money into this thing for years to just announce the lineups.

U funny. Though looks aren't everything.

I still maintain that 2/18/01 at The Maritime is the highest of the highs of the post-JG era.

Maritime Hall was a great run. The Q was/are a phenomenal band. Those shows were musically better (in my opinion) than a lot of Grateful Dead shows, especially from the last years. The "Walking Antique" era of the Grateful Dead. In retrospect they probably would have been better off taking a long hiatus in the 90s ~ walking away from all that money.

Wow tix are easy even from France...only a Benji.

Too with fees the presale yesterday was already at 189 kind of wish I could go

I picked up a GA the other night as I couldn't resist.

Very cool Christine.  See you there.  Maybe a meetup before.  Lets plan...

Tom, Got you a floor tix if you make it this time.  Bring wife.

lol searchin for the sound.....

Thanks Andy.... will likely go straight to show... not partying.

I just tested positive for Covid... probably from my flight but it could be from Fillmore or Warfield.

Hope no one else got it.

Driving next time... i've gone this long without it, bummer!

^^^ oops, replace Warfield with GAMH

So sorry about testing positive, Christine. I hope you get through it with ease. Love to you.

Thanks Judit!  Love ya right back!

I'm staying in bed and sleeping till the virus leaves.

Fortunately I don't have any holiday obligations this year.

Sorry tonhear you got COVID Christine!

Thanks Woz!

LLOLLO

Sorry to hear you caught the Bah Humbug...

Hope there's plenty of great music streams to see you by while recuperating!

We're sending you our healing vibes

Thanks Walstib!  Hopefully this will last only a few more days.

Happy holidays !

Lineup research, COVID edition cheeky

  1. Members of Q all free but close call with Headband as he is finishing with DSO in Jamaica on 1/12 --- but if anyone wouldn't need a week of practice, it would be him!
  2. Krasno is free.
  3. Sless is free (Moonalice not playing in January)
  4. Scofield is free.
  5. DeLoian plays Ashkenaz on 1/12, so theoretically free.... but is he at the same level?  I've heard good things.
  6. Members of Goose are free.
  7. Members of JRAD are playing The CAP on same weekend.
  8. Members of Yonder  (ha!) play Sweetwater 1/12.

This begs the question:  Does Phil need a wider circle of friends?  ;)

Sless will be in Mexico with Bobby.

Is the TXR dishwasher free? devil

In case I missed any others:

Thanks Zooey!  Someone is not keeping up their website...

Barry is technically available on 1/13 but why would he want to leave MX?

Jason Crosby will be with Oteil.

I did miss another one.

ha! thanks..   this points to The Q or to The Dishwashers + junior.

Steve Molitz seems to be free.

i think molitz is always free these days, at least as far as preformance schedule. IIRC he isnt playing with particle or touring at all ATM and seems to mostly be working composing music for video games. the last few particle shows i saw were *amazing* musically but were all extremely undersold.

personally, id be shocked if phil throws down a better lineup than dead ahead with derek and susan.

> Does Phil need a wider circle of friends?

John K. is in Jamaica with JGB that weekend. Stu Allen is in Denver with Forgotten Space.

Kinda surprised Steve Kimock isn't listed with Oteil & Friends in Mexico. Maybe he needed that weekend for his long awaited reunion with Phil? /s (Acually, he's in Harrisburg, PA that weekend doing a Beatles tribute thing.)

Joan Osborne has shows coming up, but not that weekend, and the same seems to be true for Chris Robinson. Ryan Adams has nothing on his schedule.

> this points to The Q

It would probably be easier to get schedules to agree for a one-off rather than a run of shows.

Also, Billy Strings has nothing scheduled for January 13th.

Q Theory just crashed>  Oddly enough, Govt Mule plays Arcata 1/13 and Portland the night prior.

Oooh, good one, BMFS

Thanks for the additions.

Ack - now Government Mule tour page is updated!  Warren plays Jamaica Island Exodus beginning 1/14.

a week of practice<<<

Hahahaha.

Sorry.  Carry on.

....and Stanley Jordan?

^^^^ Treeflo I left Stanley off on purpose as why would Phil bring him back so soon?

I could see Phil bringing back most of the last ensemble, but who knows???

If the friends aren't announced in advance

assume a midnight north-ish lineup

^^^ aw, c'mon we need more positive lineup energy than THAT!  ;-)

I'm wavering on whether I should make the drive for this one. The lack of an announced line-up is not confidence inspiring.

We get this same discussion and hand wringing every shoe lately.

It's Phil Lesh.

@ The Warfield.

It's fucking 2024!

The Phans will be there.

^^^^  YES YES YES  ^^^^

heartheartheart

id usually assume no lineup announcement = the dishwashers, but thats not what it meant for the last filmore run. lineup seemed fairly good then.

regardless, im out unless lineup is announced and i dont see myself going to any PLF shows without a lineup announcement, probably ever. im sure ill miss some great music, but im also sure ill miss even more aimless boring roots rock.

Just got tickets, but did so only because I thought I had found really cheap flights.  Problem was that I had put in the wrong dates while looking for the flights and the airfare on the actual dates (next weekend) are cost prohibitive.

Looking into other options for getting down there, but might end up stuck with two extras.  They are will call.   Anyone know how to transfer tickets at the Warfield to someone when you got your tickets will call?

Looks like we will be going after all.  See you freeks there.

woot woot Oregon Zoner roadtrip!

On the 12th Day Of Christmas, Phil still hasn't announced a line-up.

Is Larry Campbell no longer part of Phil's line-ups?

Nice try, but Larry and Teresa are in Florida for a songwriting festival next weekend.

stanley jordan has a show the next day in SF on jan 14

https://stanleyjordan.com/en/tourdates/

No tickets here, but in any case the weather looks frightful. Glad I don't have to go, but wish I was there, if that makes any sense.

^^^ I was just checking Stanley's website earlier this morn, noticed that...

Surfdead, my friends in Weed say that they've received less than 3" of snow, roads are wet but clear... think the big snow dump is happening in the Cascades to the north more than than Shasta.   Thursday is road trip day -- between the precipitation days.

Paging Noodler for weather assistance, particularly highway 58 > Willamette Pass > 97... my fav route to Shasta.  I'm thinking I'll need to go i-5 though, as driving the route with most traffic in winter weather is usually safer

looks like adam mcdougall is playing jam in the sand on jan 13 with circles around the sun, so it cant be a total copy of the filmore lineup even if jordan is playing.

i dont know where to go to check molo or stu allens schedule. i'd guess that sless playing with wolf bros means moonalice wont be playing at all around those dates and molo will be free. no idea what stu allens schedule might look like, but id guess playing with phil is one of, if not the top priority for stu.

JK is also sacrificing himself for the fans at jam in the sand so no JK. i have not seen him in any lineups in quite awhile - wonder if he is on the outs for some reason.

Stu Allen is in Denver with Forgotten Space.

Maybe this show will be Phil solo acoustic, LOL

I'm guessing Krasno, Grahame, Molo, a keyboard player to be named at a later date (john Medeski doesn't have anything on his schedule), and maybe Stanley Jordan.

Lineup research update.... and discussion questions:
Are Rob and and Warren the types who would fly in/out of Jamaica on either side of Warfield date just to play with Phil?

  • DSO's Jam in the Sand ends on 1/12, and usually the final day of music finishes at an earlier time.  DSO also begins west coast tour 10 days later in AZ.
  • Mule's Island Exodus begins on 1/14, ends on 1/18.  Mule is only playing 3 of those nights + Warren solo.  Mule  begins west coast tour in early Feb.
  • I can't find performance schedules for either fest.

  1. Herring, Rob, Warren and Molo are free but close call with 1) Headband as he is finishing with DSO in Jamaica on 1/12 --- but if anyone wouldn't need a week of practice, it would be him!  ....and 2) Warren must play at Island Exodus, which begins 1/14.
  2. Krasno is free.

I'm going to the coast on Thursday the11th (Yachats Agate festival that weekend), doing a band retreat so we can work on the new originals, etc.

WEATHER forecast;  Yikes!!!

It's all over the map, as some of the models have us going into the deepest arctic outbreak in years (single digit lows, highs in the teens on Fri / Sat).  Other models have us in the 40's with lows in the 30's... but that's for the north Willamette Valley...    I'm leaning towards the warmer solutions since it's really hard to bring an entire arctic airmass that far west (usually it'll slide along the Rockies and stay east, though we'll get those gorge winds blasting!).  But enough models are sooo cold, that i'm not trusting the warmest models either, I think we'll be inbetween (snow level 500' in the north W Valley, instead of 1,500', but not in the teens)

Should get a much better idea after our next big storm on Tuesday (kind of last minute, but the models usually have issues seeing beyond a big storm).

To keep up to date, here's the National Weather Service discussion for the Medford region (Includes Shasta to Roseburg, etc)
https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=MFR&product=A...

Here' the Forecast for that area;
https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=MFR&product=Z...

Regional forecast info;
https://www.weather.gov/sew/forecasts

And an example of one of the colder models snow forecast for Tuesdays storm (Weds snow totals);

416299430_7031313073622675_5635186460568022799_n copy.jpeg

And here's the upper air map (500mb) for Thursday from one of the colder models, shows that extreme arctic airmass about to descend on the PNW (vs moving more east in the warmer models)

416320887_10231453627393554_6119125733649436028_n copy 2.jpeg

I'm posting the colder solutions since that's the problem childs that'll hinder traveling.  I didn't post the coldest solution because it's just tooooo far out there.  And while i'm leaning towards the warmer models, several models continue to lean colder, consistently, run to run, which is very unusual this far out, as they tend to change frequently, so i'm taking them seriously, regardless of my doubts!

So be safe Phil Phans,  this will likely be a last minute decision for distance traveling, as a simple 100 mile shift in any low center, etc, can have an extreme effect on the weather we get!

Big thanks Noodler... appreciate your insights and the links.

Worst case scenario = cut west at Grants Pass.

I've been checking Accuweather and their forecasts don't look terrible for Shasta, with high temps in mid 40s.

Most of the forecasts have been staying on the warmer side, but best to be prepared from the colder solutions...  either way, I'd avoid crossing the cascades!

Phil in his book talks about crossing the pass on the California-Oregon border to play their first show in Oregon (or anywhere outside Cali) in early January 1966.

The band drove up in the Furthur bus and a box truck, but the bus broke down in northern California so they loaded up everything and everyone in the back of the box truck and kept going.  Phil road in the cab of the truck with Cowboy Neal behind the wheel and everyone else stuffed in the back.  Phil said it was an incredible blizzard going over the pass but miraculously they made it and nobody got frost bite.

Here's to similar luck (or just mad winter driving skills) going down there next weekend.

^^^ Amazing story, never heard that one.

Have Fun it Is a New Year.

Lots of weather warnings going up for the next storm (m-w) from the Portland office this afternoon (High Winds, Blizzards in the Cascades, etc)

https://www.weather.gov/pqr/

Winds gusting to possibly 50mph

15089839469150324548.jpeg

And don't even think about crossing the Cascades!

12562621753877022038.jpeg

Likewise, many warnings out of the Medford office

https://www.weather.gov/mfr/

Thanks Noodler!  Hwy 58 route is off the list. I like that the red band of blizzard is well EAST of I-5.. and hopefully the storms don't extend into Thursday.

There's a chance of snow in the W Valley Tuesday night / Weds morning, right now Thursday seems to be more quiet, but a lot of weather to get thru before then!

417872992_10226854740468032_8207590009684746351_n.jpg

We shall see. ;)

Not even thinking about Siskiyou Pass - if we get more than a few inches of snow I'm not getting out of my driveway or down the hill. Be careful all you show-goers.

Poop.

Stanley Jordan's schedule makes it seem almost a slam dunk that his timid, hesitant, aimless noodling in the GD setting will once again be on stage with Phil, once again bogging down/stunting/collapsing the flow.

Give me local "dishwashers" every day who actually know the music and each other over these "names" who get the weekenders excited but who in the moment just bog down the music.

At least his guaranteed Somewhere Over The Rainbow or sloppy Hendrix song or other time-wasting look-at-me yawner will be an easy piss break.

And don't get me wrong, Jordan is a unique and excellent player and the shows he's playing on his own in the area will probably be really good, but him playing with Phil is just another waste of opportunity.

IMO.

^^^quality zoning right there!!^^^

" Give me local "dishwashers" every day "

A+ material

>>>>>Worst case scenario = cut west at Grants Pass.

Had to do that a few times when the pass on 5 was closed, but if it is open I wouldn't mess w/ 199 GP to CC - that road is pretty scary when it's snowy or icy. One time we had to take 199, but when we got to the coast we found out 101 was closed near Legget, so we had to cross back to 5 from Eureka to Redding.

That's a lot of friends guessing going on. It is missing one though who may be an obvious choice! Lance.... I'm with you bro on most all of your thoughts over the years. You're a wise old owl.

Will Stanley be wearing the chiffon or taffeta evening gown?

Any chance Weir will make a cameo?

D'oh, Ace in Mexico with Deadco Mach II.

John Mayer appears to be free, though.

Have fun kids, i am sitting this one out due to prior plans

and somehow I ended up in fuerteventura canary Islands... might try to stream it Have fun kiddos

Canary Islands would be a great place for a music festival!

Please Phil, tell us who your phriends are.

Inquiring minds need to know.

Just treat it as a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get.

After reading where you are, Tommy) I Googled and looked around - you're in a beautiful place. Like I'd like to be there. So lovely; beautiful colors, warm and calm.

was listening to S&R 2023 so I'm going to add the  Allman-Betts guys...

Betts is in Mexico with Oteil.

I have no direct knowledge but wouldn't be surprised if this show features the same band that just played the Fillmore.

Is Tay Tay available?

Woz don't even put that energy out there !!!

It will be fun regardless, but Phil can do better!

Quien es Tay Tay?

Yes judit It is a peculiar little Island ,yet another Amazing part of our planet. I will be missing playing in the sandbox with Llollo and Andy though .... PHILLER UP AT THE PHIL MORE!

all this hand-wringing. he's playing, he's old. if you are close, go. what's the worst that can happen, a txr show? ;)

See, Phil CAN do better, LOL

IMG_1191.jpeg

>what's the worst that can happen, a txr show? ;)<

 Fair enough Turtle.
I'd consider a TXR show a  definite win and

I don't think I ever went to a bad one there.

Anyways...who doesn't like a good mystery.

> Poop.

So, Lance, who would be your dream line-up for Phil at this point?

phil lesh, txr dishwasher, subway sandwich artist, starbucks barista, chipotle burrito wrapper, grahame lesh

phil, chicken bong, left for dead, buckle up kids, floeps, oh comet to papa

Looks like this show is not selling as quickly as usual.

Perhaps well heeled heads with disposable entertainment cash already had Mexico plans.

I've never had any "dream" lineups with Phil.

All I ever hope for with Phil Lesh bands is musical & group warmth.

If that makes any sense.

I like daylight's suggestion.

At least the Chipotle guy/ gal could add some Mexican flavor to the mix. (pun intended)

I also like what Turtle said.   Phil and many of us are up there. How many more sandwiches does he OR the rest of us have?  Im grateful for the streaming services available now and the reviews from zoners who were there.  Go enjoy!  I hope it's a Grate show.

God Bress, Phir Resh.

- Ping pong

> All I ever hope for with Phil Lesh bands is musical & group warmth.

That does make sense, but I'm kinda surprised you won't name any players who serve the music well, since you seem really clear about guys like Scofield and Jordan not being good fits, and, as I recall, you were never a big fan of the Q also.

And daylight and joy, that's some top-shelf zoning. Well done.

Looks like Stu is good for Saturday. He is suddenly listed as missing the Denver show he had on the 13th, but he's still doing the night before and after.

Just had a thought. What if:

This show is a warm up for Dead and Co at the Sphere except instead of Otiell, Phil

Instead of Mayer, Stu

think of the money they'll save not hiring Mayer

tickets will sell no matter what

Mickey and Phil back together? Heh, we'll see.

My guess:  Krasno.  He's playing LA the 14th

Or Jackie.  Playing Sweetwater 15th

Not Jackie.

My bad:  Jackie is 2.15 Sweetwater

At any rate, Stu seems to be on because he pulled out of his Denver commitment on the 13th and that is awesome. Love Stu with Phil.

If DeadCo had Phil and Stu I would see them.

>>>  All I ever hope for with Phil Lesh bands is musical & group warmth.

If that makes any sense. <<<

In some ways, that's all that makes sense, to me. It seems like expecting Phil and "group" to play psychedelic music, the music of many of your hopes and dreams, is old news. The weaving of sound can still happen, but it may not create a fabric.

Love to all of you going to the show.

Maybe I don't know what folks are hoping for, that was just what I thought.

Stu, Krasno, Grahame, Phil and Molo are all solid guesses

^^^^^This is a solid band.

We still need to fill the keys seat. Medeski, MacDougal or Particle Dude would all be good for me.

So no official word on the friends? I actually prefer my PnF that way but I have a feeling it'll be the same as the Fillmore band from last month. Which would you be fine with me, love some Stanley and Adam. Either way should be another fun night near the land of ruin...

Krasno? ughhh

bring back Soulive...

keys >Mookie?

probably pass on Phil and his noncommittal friends

I'm looking forward to some upcoming local shows:

Daniel Donato

Third Mind

Kitchen Dwellers

I heard it's Molitz on keys this time.

Stay Positive For A Good Dang Time ! Woohoo !! coolyes

Correct re: Molitz

Woz.... looking to be a good guess.

;)

hey zoners how 's things?

carpooling with Portland Ken and GF and sleeping in Weed, CA this eve.

Shasta + sauna = ahhhh

Noodler, the pass was dry w/ temps slightly above freezing ... so feeling fortunate on the easy drive.  snow accumulation = 6"

Fun to have roadtrip buddies

Awesome that you made it that far safely!!!  We made it to the coast just fine.  Now watching the arctic air mass work it's way south!  Bellingham right now is 9 degrees!!!  Seattle is 24 degrees, so that arctic air is working it's way south.  Tomorrow Portland goes into the deep freeze. Still hoping for snow on our little rental paradise between Yachats and Waldport.  Have a great show, and hopefully your drive back up north after the show is safe!!!

Well now, this has really become a Phil show thread.

Far out.

No one left for dead now, ya' hear?

>>>>>Correct re: Molitz

I mean if you have the list, share it.

I wonder if Phil is discussing the lack of a line up announcement over his eggs this morning

Or is he just watching the Today show...

Safe travels to your crew Llollo.  Seattle is currently at 20 degrees this morning.  Tonight we are forecast to get down to 13.  No precipitation though, so if my bum knee isn't barking too bad, I'm going to try to make it to the Crocodile for The Third Mind and Rain Parade show.  Hope the roads stay snow and ice free for your return trip and that you get a great show for your efforts.

Phil, Graham, Stu, Krasno, Molo, Molitz

Three guitars, Skynyrd style... I always find that overkill. In this lineup, Krasno seems like dead weight. Stu is a better fit, and of course we're going to have The Price We Pay on second guitar. Kras will be flab.

Molitz is good but not one of my favorites with Phil. Jason is really fantastic but he's in Mexico. Too bad Barraco could get over right after his Jamaica gig with DSO. But again, Stu and Molo will do the heavy lifting.

Too bad Barraco could NOT get over, rather.

Thanks Noodler and Herbal for the kind words and NW updates.

Made it to Bay area just fine this morn.

Just got an email from Coty of Portland that they sent employees home due to flash freeze situation!

Now I'm windering if on Monday (spending Sunday in Arcata)  we'll need to drive up the coast route, ouch!

Tonight I'm seeing G. Deloian band at Ashkenaz!

I'm not able to make it to the show tomorrow, and have two seats in the upper balcony I'd like to get face for, but will take any reasonable offer for them. They're digital, so I can transfer them. My email's in my profile.

Phil 'er up!!! Hope the pregaming is in full swing!

So wish I was going to the show tonight!!

well this is new to me....

Has a line up been confirmed? I'm psyched but still not sure who I'm seeing other than Phil and Grahame .

Let me here you say Stuuuuuuu. Have fun tonight friends!

careful llolol I think Andy's a member in Oakland, damn churches are popin up like mushrooms. Have A grate shoe

I just want to tell you both good luck, we're all counting on you.

Obviously no formal band announcement before showtime this time. Very ballsy, but I guess it sets a precedent for next time. They obviously don't sweat it.

I miss the days of posters that had the players listed on the artwork.

they'll probably print the Warfield poster on the back of the December Fillmore poster...

No stream?

I couldn't motivate to get up to the city so I gave my ticket to a friend.

I guess in 2024 it's..........

YOU GO TO THE SHOW!!!

(That other lead doesn't sound like Anders, and Krasno was in town last night so I'm betting a nickel it's Krasno)

Sounded like Stu singing Strawberry Fields & DTR & Krasno on Althea

our faithful leader

Guitar heavy jams and rearranging the tunes.

A little wobbly at first, but got their groove going soon enough.

Jack a Roses, sung by The Price We Pay.

St. Stephen

An interesting interlude between the streamer and a random woman.... a staffer? Or just a discontent patron?

Can't we all just get along?

Just a little rock 'n roll.

Molitz is mostly a nonfactor, but his discreet flourishes work well and sound great, especially on B3. Much better than Adam McD at the Fillmore, whose playing just annoys me and was a real detraction IMO.

Molo is as brilliant as ever. MVP

Stephen into Eleven, but it's a bummer they skipped the William Tell bridge.

China Rider, decent as it goes. I really liked the long jam in Stephen, some nice electric dixieland.

Molitz is excellent, as usual. He understands that at it's best keyboards in GD music is gentle and color, complimentary, occasionally with a subtle moment up front, always creatively involved but never dominating. Unlike many others, after and even during the Grateful Dead years.

Grateful Dead music is at it's best guitar driven, always.

And Krasno over Jordan, or Sco, every day & twice on Sundays.

And how 'bout this streamer? He's standing his ground! "I'm not a whiny bitch like you".

HA! Is that guy a zoner?

VERY entertaining. That little give & take made me feel like I was there.

LLPL!!!

Box. Wobbly vocal from Phil, for sure. But band sounds good.

B - is my grade . Some nice moments and always nice to see Phil especially at the Warfield. Born Cross Eyed was pretty cool .

 >>>>He's standing his ground!<<<<

Ostensibly, had someone placed a camera/tripod behind the streamer and was complaining that he was obstructing their view.

Of course, that's just my impression from the audio.

Not sure if streamer is a Zoner.

Unabashed Stu fan here, I keep coming away for these Phil shows, both live and streamed feeling let down that Stu has to hold back and share so many lead licks with two other guitarists.

in agreement that Krasno much better option than Sco and Stan (all 3 fine musicians), but even "the price we pay" steals leads.  More is less in these line ups, these other guys  are a distraction to me from potential blast off I know are possible  when Phil Stu and Molo are in the pocket.
Still love that Phil is up there deep in the catalog, playing masterfully in classic sf venues.

Now to the important part of the show review: I couldn't follow what the Tri- pod complainer's issue was or really who was who in all that interesting interlude on the stream but that dudes buzz was harshed for sure.  I'm selfishly taking the side of our heroic streamer not knowing any facts really but hoping the zone has some thoughts or can at least make up some interesting theories.

Im off to my shrink now to figure out why I found all that tense Tri pod banter so intriguingly entertaining to begin with.
VIVA LA LESH!!

Molitz is excellent, as usual.<<

That is one view.

Molitz is one up from the bottom of the list of Phil keys-playing friends.

There's another.

At least he's not actively irritating like the basement dweller.smiley

> The Price We Pay

Sounds like Grahame earned himself an entry in the Zone DIctionary.

i do not understand phil's need for 3 guitarists, like others have said, less is more.

i do not understand phil's need for 3 guitarists, like others have said, less is more.

obviously phil has done 3 guitars a bunch of times in plenty of pre-txr lineups, but in the post txr era, i totally understand phils need for 3 guitars, because one of those guitar slots will always be GL.

its to balance his nepotism with his desire to play good music.

"here are the 2 guitarists who should actually be in this band for the sake of the music and also here is my son"

> one of those guitar slots will always be GL.

Part of Phil's calculation has to be vocals too. That's been a consistent issue over the years, with non-singing players like Kimock, Trucks, Pevar, Herring, Sless, and Scofield, for example, and I think Phil probably sees in Grahame a solution to the problem of who's going to step up to the mic and sing.

I don't mind the Nepo Baby. His rhythm playing is pretty good, and while his lead playing isn't up to the level of Stu or Kras, it's not that bad and not usually too annoying. His vocals are decent as well.

As long as he knows his place as a supporting player and not a star.

i don't mind the kid. i mean, listen to most of the people's vocals that have been in the role...at least he knows the material. However, you still really only need ONE lead guitarist...

by the way, i am in the camp that basically stu is the best lead player that can sing...he won me over many years ago w/ melvin when i sam him play and sing rhapsody in red.

"B - is my grade ."

Glad I didn't have you grading me in school (or writing my job performance appraisals).

Seriously, what an intensely critical and often judgmental crew you all can be!

Love to everybody, and keep going to the shows. Don't want Phil ever having to worry about selling tickets.

Gotta say after listening my grade is more like a B+. It was clunky but it's 2024 and Phil is still playing the Warfield. Had Stu just been able to take the lead I feel this could have been really exceptional but he was hand cuffed . Stu should sing and take lead on every Jerry tune at least imho .

Show had its clunky moments for sure.  Especially the less than fluid transition between St. Stephen and the 11.  But overall good jam heavy show with Phil turned up in the mix and solid three guitar attack with Molitz keeping it trippy.  Could have used a horn or female vocal.

B+

First show at the Warfield.  Nice venue.  We were up at the way top.  Crowded and chaotic but found a little space with some dancing room. Beers are way overpriced so glad I snuck a flask in.

>>>Nice venue<<<

Sure, it's a "nice" venue. There are many nice venues, there are many like it, there are many better. The difference is the Warfield is a LEGENDARY venue. One with DEEP Jerry Garcia/Grateful Dead connections, but far, far more than just that.

The Warfield Theatre is over 100 years old, has been a live music venue for 44 years straight and is still going strong.

44 years is a LONG time for a venue to roll, which makes that old place a rare treasure, and that it's almost exactly the same as it was when I first walked in there 44 years ago makes it that much better.

What I truly regret about missing the show last night is not so much the music, but being in that great old room once again.

I look forward to another chance soon.

LONG LIVE THE WARFIELD THEATRE!!!

Nothing left outstanding on this Half-step outro

All accounts settled.

Business handled.

Why I love PL&Fs

My favorite nights of my life were spent in that theatre at Garcia Band shows. Quite a few Dylan shows as well.

I prefer the Great American Music Hall myself.

i told ya all i cried a year ago seeing phil there and james casey sing dear prudence...gives me the goosebumps.

I'm hearing rumors of Phil's birthday at the Warfield....

(((((james casey)))))   and    ^^^^ sweet

meanwhile my crew of 3 is traveling through a good ol' Willamette Valley ice situation... at least it's not snowing

Now an ice situation in the dark - good wishes. It's fucking cold and slick.

We drove back from the coast today, the ice in the trees was amazing looking near Toledo, but the roads were tolerable, until in town, the smaller the road, the worse, but the sidewalks and driveways were sheets of ice, even saw a few people fall on the sidewalk!  Glad you had a great show, hoping the cold winds blow you safely home!

Yep Yep... we are at a high speed of 35 mph now!

Portland Ken is at the wheel.

Thanks Noodler.  Glad you're home safe.

I wanted to stop many times to take photos of the 12-inch icicles but was voted down, oh well.

I wanted to take pics of the radiant sun going through ALL that ICE in the trees near the coast, just wasn't safe!  Truly one of the most destructive yet beautiful things i've seen (the first 15 miles of HW 20 were closed for over 24 hours, now I know why!)

Thanks!

Why would it be any surprise to have Phil's birthday at the Warfield? At this point it should be expected. It seems the days of Phil playing outside California are over. At his stage, why not keep it close to home? Fillmore and Warfield, both in the city, both historic. Makes sense to keep it there.

Rather, I would be surprised if Phil's birthday is NOT in the Bay Area at Warfield or Fillmore. I don't expect any more New York shows. Could be wrong, obviously.

Accidentally duplicate posted. Edit.

>>>ALL that ICE in the trees near the coast, just wasn't safe!

Made it back to Portland.  12 hour drive from Arcata.  Drive was ez-peasy until we got to just south of Drain.  I-5 was at a standstill so took the break down lane to the nearest exit and took the back roads up to Eugene.  Crazy.   Power lines and trees down everywhere.  Never seen anything quite like it.  Sure the folks in Cottage Grove will have to wait a long time to get power back on.  That place was a complete disaster.

Glad to hear the Portland contingent made it back safely. You made it in time for today's ice storms. Good times.

So many great shows at the Warfield. All the Garcia band shows, The five night Phil run with the Go Go dancers from the strip club next door, while they played Golden Road. David Bowie, Chemical Brothers, Yo La Tengo, The Cramps, Scissor Sisters, Big Audio Dynamite, Reverend Horton Heat, Ministry, and so many more I can't remember now. Love that building.

Glad everyone is safe.

Woz, not sure how BD run at Warfield when booked 3.13 and 3.15.  Fillmore booked too.  Fox booked 3.16.  Yet, Cap dates wide open.  Explain please.  Thx

I hope Phil ends his career at the Fillmore. Whenever that may be. Seems most cosmically appropriate with TXR no longer in the picture.

Glad everyone made it home safely. It's the big trucks barreling by that freak me out when driving in bad weather.

I know it's impossible, but I'm of the opinion that trucks should have their own roadways, separate from cars. In 8,000 plus miles of recent driving, our two near death experiences involved big rigs. One truck suddenly swerved across three lanes in thick traffic and missed us by inches, the other blew thru a red light at high speed. I saw cars driving like in video games at some points, but most just cruised along the highways.

Glad you all made it home safely!  Salem got destroyed by ice a year (or 2?) ago...   hope we get spared that kind of volume of ice this afternoon!

Ken, Llollo and J,

So glad you all got there safely.
It is sunny and the ice is sparkling, the birds are flying around looking for anything to eat, and it's the calm before the predicted ice storm. If they are right about any of that it will start in a couple of hours in Eugene. It's 22° and the day is predicted to end at 44 degrees.

Stay safe out there.

SOO... PHIL 84... AT THE CAP? .and you may find yourself.....

Bon Jour Tom:  I do believe it will be at the Cap.  Not 100% but convincing enough.  Have flights book, rooms reserved and ferry waiting for Italian on the Island.  You book yet???  Christine too?  Et al ???

Just passing on a rumor. Warfield is now booked 3/15 but the Fillmore is open on that date. Phil isn't playing multiple nights in a row anymore as demonstrated by the past Fillmore shows that had a day off in between. I really don't see him up for flying across country to play New York in the winter. What I did hear and seems likely, is that Phil will only be playing the Bay Area one show at a time.

Thx for clearing that up Woz.  Worst scenario, Drew (neph), can use plane ticket bos-sfo.  I can cancel hotels back east .  BTW: Local hotels booked too just in case.

Bill Graham Civic Auditorium

Andy: Thought I mentioned this before, but to repeat: Not planning on CAP.

Phil sounds so good on PITB on the YT/Deadheadland link Tommy posted.

Just like I hear Phil in my head.

Is it the best show in GD history. No, but PL&Fs is my favorite post-GD GD sound. It just is.

Can I get a little sympathy around this place?   heartwink

And everybody's favorite Doin' the Rag.

heart  Phil deep tracks!

Still waiting.....

That was a treat.  Totally rearranged with a groovy, jammy outro.   How does this song go?
