Phil and Friends Cap Birthday Run March

Forums:

http://www.ticketfly.com/event/1383283-phil-lesh-friends-port-chester/

Friday still showing as sold out. That is the link for thursday tickets.

Now back on topic, is this the longest they have waited after tickets went on sale to announce a lineup?

Not too sure, but it took a long time to announce the '12? GOTV and it was underwhelming IMO. Hope this is a different case.

was the lineup for the 12/04 themed run at warfield released at all before the shows?

>>>was the lineup for the 12/04 themed run at warfield released at all before the shows?

nope, band was not known until the curtains went up,  although there were plenty of rumors and speculation on the 2.0 Zone. Big fun...

Hey just booked my flight.got ada"s for my 89 yo Mom and I for Phils bday..would like to pre zone at the Philton... used to work there ! 2017 here we come

Good stuff on bringing Mom to the show.

so safe to say it'll be the kids?

>so safe to say it'll be the kids?

unless stanley picked up a new skirt

That's a solid surprise lineup there. Fingers crossed.

if it's the kids, then well, they know what we do.

it'd be embarrassing to announce that lineup for PLF.

some positive thought process here might help, just sayin

>some positive thought process here might help, just sayin

boy_dog_pray.jpg

Chances are the lineup has already been decided upon.

Don't think you can petition the Lesh with prayer, anyway.

It's definitely NOT the Q, so you have that going for you.........

Keith, any truth to the JK and Stanley possibility?

Thanks Eddie, have you met the guy in the bear suit or are you him?

As far as JK and Stanley, I have no idea.  Stanley is a deal breaker for me.  Besides, I just got tix for a real band 6 nights at Brooklyn bowl which conflict with these dates.  I'm happy smiley

Nice Doors referance, Surf...

Love the pic of the kid and his dog praying...

When the hell is this announcement???...ive already given in to Stanley, those rumors are too previlant not to be true...but, id like rest of lineup...

Should be a fun week , either way, w jrad at BB

>Thanks Eddie, have you met the guy in the bear suit or are you him?

you must have missed it fog. i was in the bag.

the guy in the bear suit i wouldn't know from adam without his costume

Not that i really mind Stanley either way, i'm  not sold on relying on hearsay at the moment.

Considering Phil & the family band haven't even sold out the 2 shows at BB in February, I wouldn't sweat tix for the Cap shows......there will be PLENTY come show days.

i hope shappy drops the price of the presidential booths soon.

id like to moon the family band if i could afford it

The surprise  lineup will B...

No wait...

If word about this gets around, it won't b a surprise.

Ok never mind then.

Presidential booths r sold out playa.....and usually for charity...might have to pony up for a floor ticket to moon..

In Phil I trust.

silly rabbits.

go see your local cover band.

I choose to go see Philip fucking Chapman fuckin' Lesh!

silly Rabbits...

Would love to see the Coney Island line-up for this run - big time

Phil + #whonow

Only soldier I've ever been..

I agree with Ro-J.

Phil celebrating his 77 birthday in Port Chester?

Ain't no place I would rather B.

Silly Rabbits

you fuckin guys dissin blood?

i heart phil

Rilly sabbits

Phil should play with JRAD while D. is on hiatus.

Phil should NOT play with JRAD.....he slows them down.  I'm interested to see Oatmeal with them.

>>> I'm interested to see Oatmeal with them.

It'll be good and different but not the same I don't think. Dreiwitz has gotten incredibly good and it's not the real JRAD sound with him.

So beside Phil , who else will be there March 15th?

1Me

2 My Mom

3. ..?.

So beside Phil , who else will be there March 15th?

4. Me

5. Me

6. Wife

7, 8 & 9 Central and Western NY phriends

Hoping the delay is because one of the Phriends is going to be Trey and they don't want to cause a ruckus!!  wink

A ruckus? You wanna cause a ruckus?  Well, do you??

Put some Phil tickets on sale for $99 and up, don't tell anyone the line-up. Now THAT might cause a ruckus. I'm telln' ya, it might.

Well thats eight of you for the 15th. Great start.

17th

Me and Mrs Fog

maybe phil will let ross james play wolf?

Some dude made a post on the Capital Theater website (under the 3/15 show) saying "I heard John K, Stanley Jordan, Jason Crosby, Joan Osbounre and Matt Levy on Drums...."

All of these people are available on those dates according to their websites.  For that matter, so is ALMOST everyone in the Q except Molo who has some DNB gigs then.  So, I guess TBD...

As always, take it with a grain of salt.  Also, I am quoting this, so any misspellings are not mine!

BTW, who is Matt Levy?

I will be there on the 15th and 16th with Shakedown and my buddy Andy on the 16th as well.

http://www.thecapitoltheatre.com/event/1383207-phil-lesh-friends-port-ch...

Add RJ to that line up and think you have it.  And who is Matt Levy is a good question.

Another lineup with 3 guitarists? I'm glad I passed and got the Trey tickets.

They probably are talking about Mark Levy from Circles Around the Sun (Neal Casal's band)

That's a good choice!  Beats the shit out of Alex Koford surprise

Alex will be on hand to check coats and swill Heineken

Levy actually wouldn't be unprecedented, he apparently played twice with Phil at TXR last year along with some other Circles Around the Sun members, which was news to me: http://www.jambands.com/news/2016/09/02/circles-around-the-sun-members-t...

Love me some 12 dollar hienekens...

>>>"I heard John K, Stanley Jordan, Jason Crosby, Joan Osborne and Matt Levy on Drums...." and Ross James ?

i'd be happy with that lineup. although i'd trade RJ and SJ for either WH or JH. With that lineup i think three guitars is fine, not so much if you have two dominating lead guitars.

I'm guessing they'll announce the Cap shows lineup after the P&P Vegas run this weekend.

Why do you think that?  They need to sell out the family band shows at brooklyn bowl in february first surprise

Around NYE, I also heard Stanley Jordan and John Kadlecik from a Bay area friend who frequents TXR.

I saw Mark Levy play with Phil (Neil, Jackie G, MacDougs, Cass McCombs) for the "Darkness" show last year at TXR.  He was green on some of the Dead tunes (he seemed rhythmically lost at times during MOTM and Terrapin Station), but he seemed to do well during the jams.  I bet that he'll do well this time around.

I'd check this band out if I were in town.

The important stuff.

I bet that he'll do well this time around.>>>

Hi Johnny. Musicians not up to snuff on The Dead catalog will not cut the mustard at the Cap. That crowd is very demanding with little patience  for experimentation especially on a birthday run. In "Phil We Trust" but Phil needs to pull rabbits out of his hat or he may get lines of protesters that will make the women's march look like a campus sit in.

cool

^^^

maybe on da zone....

Around NYE, I also heard Stanley Jordan and John Kadlecik from a Bay area friend who frequents TXR.>>>>

Ugh. Again I hear this ugly rumor. If this is the lineup for the Birthday run count me out of anything short of a free couch stream. Been there once ain't going there twice.

Haven't sprung for any tixxes yet or arranged lodging. It is tough to justify a month's utility bills ++ towards 'Unknown Lineup' Cap shows, as much fun as they always are.

Also I'm getting older and lazier all the time.

...March sees some shows pairing Kadlecik with his old friend Melvin Seals and JGB for at least two shows in the northeast.  Getting together with old friends and musician mates is a theme here with shows at the Cap with Phil Lesh and Friends to celebrate the bassist’s birthday in the middle of March....

http://livemusicnewsandreview.com/winter-touring-john-kadlecik/

Good work, Johnny D!

JK is confirmed.

Yeah, thanks Johnny D. I am going to the 3/3/17 JGB show at the Capital in Port Chester and I see John Kadlecik is playing solo Acoustic and Electric.

http://www.thecapitoltheatre.com/event/1393093-melvin-seals-jgb-port-chester/

Brooklyn bowl it is....

or , one of each....

Definitetly

Thanks Johnny D

i just purchased a tic for melvin with jk @ the cap on march 3rd. Great seat for $20!

i want to hear jk sing jerry tunes all night long.

Cats out of the bag, i'm fine with JK. So be it.

What are the chances Phil will do a Cap run between the birthday and Halloween shows?

^^^^

Memorial Day weekend at the Cap  and another Coney Island/summer stage shows in September ...seems to b da norm the past few years..

After seeing Phil last weekend in Vegas, I would say see him while you can.  He is getting OLD and the road does not go on forever.

fitzman, that is so true.  we take him for granted. long live phil lesh.

March 15th....I gotta hunch

>>>  I would say see him while you can.

I don't always agree with Fitzman, but when he is right he is right!

Thanks Dave smiley

After seeing Phil last weekend in Vegas, I would say see him while you can.  He is getting OLD and the road does not go on forever.>>>>>>

Agreed.  But am "seeing while I can", when ever I can,  live when I can, or streaming, and want the very best to compliment Phil and the  historic catalog of the Grateful Dead. Something to make the hairs on my neck and arms stand tall. Not everyone can fit the bill. I think we all want the same thing.

What are the chances Phil will do a Cap run between the birthday and Halloween shows?>>>

Wise you are!

Phil sat on a stool most of the night on Friday, Jan. 21.......shades of Bobby at the Cap.  Imho, Phil would be wise to stick to TXR now and let people come to him.

^^^^

what bout Saturday and Sunday???

and Bobby was wasted at the Cap...zero shades of Bobby ...

i can't believe phil still comes east.

especially with the amateur bands he travels with 99% of the times these days.

Saturday was smokin......sunday was a one set show with the kids. Was not expecting that; should have been specified up front.  Wondering if the Brooklyn Bowl in february will be the same situation.  And yes, shades of Bobby; Phil was teetering before Robbie Taylor brought out the stool.

>> Phil sat on a stool most of the night on Friday, Jan. 21.......shades of Bobby at the Cap

Jay Blakesberg posted on FB that Phil is getting over a bad head cold, hence the stool: https://www.facebook.com/108844062482118/videos/1418571261509385/?commen...

>>>>Not everyone can fit the bill. I think we all want the same thing. <<<<

I totally agree with you, K, but it looks like I'm in on this one nevertheless. I need to hear Phil, and I think a road trip will do me some good!

Hey now Fitz!

Thanks for the info and review!

I think I'm gonna get me a ticket for Phil's birthday show.

I'm listening to 2017-1-20 Las Vegas Bowl on Archive now. Sounds like a very good show to me.

Anyone at the show, I'd love to see what you thought of the shows. Thanks.

I'm in for Wed and Thurs.

Reckon it'll be hard to come by a couple Fri tix?

I was at the show bob.  It was OK; a bit uneven and certainly the band showed they rehearsed very litttle.  Attics was the best song of the night.  The next night was the true shit......give that a listen!

>>Reckon it'll be hard to come by a couple Fri tix?

There will be at least one ticket drop for friday. Tickets will be available regardless if you really want them I'd reckon a yes.

One of the Zoners is telling me it's that guy from Phish, what's his name, Trey or something like that.

The rumor that Trey is gonna join Phil at the Cap has been passed around every Cap run since it opened

Phil!

Joan's run in NYC finishes March 11th...looking more and more like Joan..Jordan...JK...Crosby..and Levy....according to the cap thru their Facebook we will know the band the first Friday in February...take it w a grain of salt...

Don't forget Ross James and Alex Koford........lol

And Grahame, of course

>>>.looking more and more like Joan..Jordan...JK...Crosby..and Levy..

This ^^^

It should be a hoot

Highly unlikely that I'll see ya'll in March, but still fun to bug the CAP! They can't expect me to buy tickets w/o a full lineup. Hoping for May or Philoween.

CAPFB.PNG

Should be friday and there will be tickets.

^^^^Usually about noon EST on a Fri.?

Tick , tock, tick tock.....

Can't believe its number 77.

Just checked and GA as well as Balcony are available for the 15th and 16th. No mention on Cap web site yet as who the band will be.

the word on the street is Boyd Tinsley and Stanley Jordan  along with the Fam Fam Band.

1 pillow w/every ticket purchased

> the word on the street is Boyd Tinsley and Stanley Jordan  along with the Fam Fam Band. <

This sounds like the most likely/credible rumor. Hard to believe the Family band won't be there. Phil has been working them hard at TXR.

Saw Phil with Boyd at the Cap once.  Not sure if he was having an off night, wasn't familiar with the music or just plain sucks.  Thinking it was the later two.

the word on the street is Boyd Tinsley and Stanley Jordan  along with the Fam Fam Band. >>>>>>

This would be disappointing and a deal breaker.  I would want a refund and I didn't even buy tickets.

Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band
Ring In 2017 In Hawaii - JamBase
...Phil Lesh was joined by the regular Terrapin Family Band lineup of guitarists Grahame Lesh and Ross James and drummer Alex Koford as well as keyboardist Jason Crosby and guitarist Scott Law.

then you have:

...when you come to a Midnight North show, you’ll find Elliott Peck, Grahame Lesh and Alex Jordan sliding into three part harmonies that are as comfortable as an old pair of jeans. You’ll hear bassist Connor O’Sullivan and new drummer Alex Koford making themselves at home in any groove from a stomp to a slow-burn or boogie. Settle in and you might find Midnight North writing a new page in the American songbook...

Mar 17  The Mint  Los Angeles, CA
Fri - 3/17  8:15 PM Buy Tickets
Midnight North / The Alpine Camp / The Mosaics / Cranky George see also:  http://themintla.com/shows.cfm

based on the above, i think i will not see the family band at the cap on 3/17 since midnight north is playing at the mint in los angeles for one night.  (but that premise does leave the 15th & 16th open for them to play - has phil ever spilt a run between two line ups?

Phil and sons?

John K is already confirmed to be there (http://livemusicnewsandreview.com/winter-touring-john-kadlecik/). I highly doubt it would be him and the Family band. I think that rumor is false.

I really think Stanley Jordan, I know a lot of folks don't care for him...but i like him as a friend :) He in the mix takes me ....places ;)

...anyway, it will be fun and it's Phil ...heart...heart...heart .

KadillaK and S. Jordan together will be an interesting lineup; maybe that has happened already at TXR ??

I can't recall every single ensemble over time.

Just wish whatever batch rehearses a taste before firing it up on stage.

In Phil I trust. I would be shocked if its the PhilDren/Terrapin family band.   Bring on the A team and I ain't talking Mr. T.

JK and Stanley were in the lineup at the Cap for the first half of the Halloween Run in 2015, along with Jason Crosby and Tony Leone. My guess is this lineup will be quite similar.

I've enjoyed the Stanley shows that I've seen, especially the TXR Valentines Day run a few years back. Wouldn't mind another Jordan/JK guitar combo.

Just bring a fucking roll and roll drummer please. That's all I ask.

Prob be Tony Bologna on drums.

I know this show with JK and SJ has appeared in threads before. I think it's a real good one.

Been listening to it all day.

Roseland 11-13-12:

https://archive.org/details/plf2012-11-13.plf2012-11-13

hey le hammer, i too have been listening to jk sj shows. imo the phil-o-ween 10.30.15 show at the cap posted above by unc sam is irresistible. "little wing" is a fine example of what those two can conjure together. 3oth blew away the 31st imo.

jk & jordan are a fine starting point for this 77th  bday lineup.

Molo...joanie...trey...stanley...phil...crosby...

I could live w that....maybe a cpl horns....

Larry and theresa....cmon, phil, announce the fckn show.....

Me thinks the reason for the wait is ppls schedules...if it was "family"...he already knows scheds...he writes scheds...lol

>>>I know this show with JK and SJ has appeared in threads before. I think it's a real good one.

Been listening to it all day.

I caught the two Roseland shows prior. Im not big into JK of Jackie but the shows were actually very solid.  Happy to have experienced the Roseland before it was demolished. It'd be hard for me to rationalize the trip for the family band.  If it s JK and SJ with Crosby  that would suffice... I just really want to go see Phil play again.

Here today, gone tomorrow.

Molo...joanie...trey...stanley...phil...crosby...<<<<<

Its on JK website that he will b one of Phil's friends...

is it ok to say here that the gay black dude is a waste of oxygen if he is?

whoa, now!

I'm hearing from a reliable source that it will be Phil solo, replicating the 2 early and late shows Jerry did solo at the Capitol Passaic in April 1982. Is everyone ready for a solo reprise of a Phil debut of Sing Me Back Home and It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes A Train To Cry? "Believe Me".

>>>is it ok to say here that the gay black dude is a waste of oxygen if he is?

edgy dude is edgy

"... replicating the 2 early and late shows Jerry did solo at the Capitol Passaic in April 1982..."

If so, who will be fake John Kahn ?? Or are those the two shows sans Kahn ??

As far as whether SJ is 'Gay' here's what one blogger said:

"... it’s pretty clear that he’s openly acknowledging being gay or transgendered or some combination thereof. (He doesn’t actually say this, but his appearance, affectation and shots of him performing in more flamboyant attire would seem to make it clear.) I find myself wondering whether the fact that he created a very unique a revolutionary guitar style is in some way related to the fact that he’s not tied down to a traditional sense of self. Like, on some level he’s innately so outside the box (gender-role-wise) that he feels free to throw the box out the window (in terms of his playing.).."

http://archive.org/details/phil2005-11-27.akg483fob.frank.31725.sbeok.fl...

Phil and Friends played Sing Me Back Home in Milwaukee 2005 Shadow of the Moon tour

Here's what SJ had to say, in a Jazz Times interview:

"...This was around 2010. This was one of the triggers that first got me moving forward. So I went in there and I told them that I was shopping for my girlfriend, which actually wasn’t a lie because I found her some stuff too. But I found this really pretty floral brocade mini-dress with open arms. I got it back to the hotel and I put it on over my jeans and looked in the mirror, and, oh my God, it was a life-changing moment. Because this dress in combination with the jeans created a look that was very feminine, on one hand; there’s a feminine aspect of my body, and it kind of highlighted my curves. And at the same time, because the arms were open, it doubled as a muscle shirt, and it showed my upper-body development. And I saw both the male and the female elements blended really harmoniously.

I was looking in the mirror, and for the first time-I was around 50-I saw me. It was not some partial version of me. It was the fullest representation of me that I had ever seen in my life. And in that moment I realized that my spirit transcends gender..."

https://jazztimes.com/features/stanley-jordan-my-spirit-transcends-gender/

If so, who will be fake John Kahn ?? Or are those the two shows sans Kahn ?>>

That was truly Jerry solo. Alone, exposed and naked. Phil is already the fake John Kahn. This is the Box of unbroken pride tour.

(((Box of unbroken pride)))

Just got confirmation its Phil  a cappella and JK on lead Pantomime.

Just got confirmation email its Phil  a cappella, JK on lead Pantomime and Toney Bologney on hard stool sample.

Larry and theresa are touring on these dates at least the 17th so is Molo

Joan, JK & Stanley Jordan all seem available, I wonder who the drummer and key slots will go to

^Someone above posted Crosby on keys  and Matt Levy drums from Circles Around Sun band,  as a possible rumor. Seems believable.

haha KK, jk lead pantomime crying hahaha

really tho, tony bologna would be baaaaddddddddd-show killler.

dude from the coney island shows did well on the drums-maybe phil could grab him if no molo.

john morgan kimock would crush it....i know, i know.

Ha JMK would be interesting. I see he has a gig in VT with Yacovone in March. ABB coverband. It should be pretty cool to see the two of them play together. Yacovone was also a young prodigy.

Any tips on catching the ticket drop for the 3-17 show?

Do these drops usually occur on Fridays?

My advice would be to avoid the St. Patrick's Day show! Last year, it was so sloppy on the floor, drunken idiots falling over each other, pushing, and not a fun experience.

It really is odd that they have not announced the line up yet. I hope it's the shit

This is exactly why we always get balcony seats, and the sound is way better up there :)

The drunken sloppy yak yak factor is crazy out of control there, sometimes I want to say " just go to a bar and put on the jukebox already" :(

CRB just did the BB shows in Vegas.  JK and the cross dresser are your guitarists for the Cap.

If Stanley Jordan's wants to wear high heels, then he is going to wear high heals..... and a long dress with a slit.

Dude holds it down like that.

See you on the floor, amigos, let's go celebrate Philip...and US. :-)

ummmmmmmm

lineup?

anyone?

XOXO

The skybox is for five people for the price of the cheap seats...having the couch like bench is way better than the seats...so it's the same price as the seats in front and cheaper than the ones to the side..

Jelly you got big ears. As you ascend row by row especially after the first five rows the sound gets noticeably worse and worse. And spreading out to the left or right it continues to degrade.  I have experimented and The sound in that skybox on either side is awful.   Worst sound in the house. In this cse you get wht you pay for. Cheap sound.

I must also say i am hopeful that having waited so long for the band to be announced I am hoping it is something special and not a retread from Halloween 2015 with JK and SJ.  That would Suck. Bring on Trey.

CRB would also suck.

Just freaking announce it already, wtf

Skybox also gets you floor access.

Tickets still available for the first two nights.

you can't smoke in the cap anywhere at all any longer.

You can eat marijuana.

very good, slacker.

Family Band.

I prefer to burn but I had some butter earlier.

>>>lineup?

anyone?

Joan..Jordan...JK...Crosby..and Levy..>>

This seems logical and nothing has been reported contrary, JK is confirmed bringing more cred to this original report..

Good to see Huck in here, she elevates the whole community.

Oh crap. Because Of my love for all things food  I am very connected within the community of waiters and waitresses near the cap.  They get the lowdown directly from Shappy but he has been extremely elusive regarding this run. They will not confirm anything yet but they said it might be  JK and SJ sharing duties on  lead mannequin.

The Grate Mystery of the Birthday Lineup Continues!!

We should know something by the time the birthday soundcheck comes along.

Maybe.

smiley

maybe the line up is to be a b-day surprise for phil.

phil won't know the line-up himself until he gets on stage   how's that?

>>> phil won't know the line-up himself until he gets on stage   how's that

With the amount they rehearse for these gigs, wouldn't be much different from other Cap runs

Lol

It has to be family band, JK, Stanley Jordan...

but why wait to announce that?!?!

Im not even going and I feel impatient:)

I was in a skybox for Phil bday last year

they don't let you stand up and dance

so I was not into it

spent majority of time down on rail with Zoners heart

Scott Law wanted to come hang in the box and security wouldn't let him

They roll hard upstairs at the Cap!

phil played again for free in bar at TXR last night, tonight at GAMH

then headed to Brooklyn, baby!

get some!!

Is the skybox way at the back of the theater where there's a bench instead of numbered seats?

Or is a skybox one of those little spots on the side up in the air where there's three or four people sitting?

Why you can't dance in the box?

>> Or is a skybox one of those little spots on the side up in the air where there's three or four people sitting?

No, they're couches in the top corners of the balcony. Those are the presidential boxes. First few rows of balcony is where it's at though -- sound gets bad up in the top of the balcony. I'm unclear why anyone would want to be up there.

My bad, it was a presidential box

Can't dance because they think you are going to fall over the edge

its quite low

hey hey Ro and happy Friday everyone!

so I've been feeling surly over this lack of announcement. no way i can make the trip now.

in my FB feed I just saw this:

Contest.PNG

....to which i replied with this:

CAPReply.PNG

Hoping there are some artistic Zoners who might benefit from this contest. Good luck!

Would it B ok 2 dance (in the presidential box) if 1 has a parachute?

I don't have a ducat 4 Brooklyn Phil next week, but am still thinking of going.

Practicing holding one finger in the air 4 a (paid) miracle.

smiley

I heard  surprise guests ((( Larry and Teresa )))...guess we'll have to wait and see ;)

How can you have surprise guests before you have guests?

An Announce of Friends.

Not at all like an Mooch of Wooks.

haha....very true Eddie :)

It's like everything else going on in the nation right now......Backwards !

Family band does not make a person want to spend money on a room and travel plus tix. Pretty lame all around....

Surprise March announcement?

>>>>Practicing holding one finger in the air 4 a (paid) miracle. <<<<

Which leads to my next querstion.

Is it assumed that one finger in the air means you are asking for a free ticket?

I never was quite sure. I usually make a sign that says "cash for extra", but sometimes I forget my crayons.

>>>>The rumor that Trey is gonna join Phil at the Cap has been passed around every Cap run since it opened<<<<

So it's overdue?!?

I'm with you Ms. Christine. Fafa too. I guess Phil and Shappy still assume we are an easy money target.

I think it is rather arrogant to sell tickets 5 months in advance for a "band" that has only one true member and not release the line up. I haven't missed a run in a few years, and that my friends is coming to a very quick end. Phil and Pete expect me to request time off of work, purchase a plane ticket, reserve a 200.00+ a night hotel room and drop a hundred bucks to get into a show when I have no idea who is playing? I'm not that rich or that stupid. (please no offense to the ones that already have tickets in hand)

Due to the revolving cast of characters over the years, we have heard some real clunkers and witnessed some beautiful magic but at least we were given the ability to choose the artists we wish to listen to and support. This just seems like musical blackmail.

Do I want to be with our fearless leader for his birthday? Yes, of course.

Do I want to feel like my wallet and loyalty are being taken advantage of? No, that's crazy.

It would be great to think they were going to drop a freaking whopper of a line up on us but waiting around to announce the players makes me believe that whomever is on the bill, it can't be all that fabulous. Kind of a bummer they have killed all the excitement.

I do hope it is a kick ass run and I will be sad to miss it and even more, to miss dancing and hugging all of you. I know we should enjoy every sammie and our times together are limited but for Phil to not release the line up to his deadicated fans that have, and are still helping him make a living doing what he loves to do feels kind of dirty and scammy. No thanks.

Happy Birthday Phil and to my lovely Zoner friends, eat a piece of cake for me. I'm bowing out this time.

I love you all.

...but why wait to announce that?!?!

yes, that is the million $ question.

no announcement is an unprecedented move. for what result?

it's b/c the lineup is trash (meaning the kids, ross and the dishwasher).

adding jk and stanley jordan won't help trash.

why would phil wait if the lineup was something we'd all drool over?

It's getting sad to watch. I hope Phil has the sense to pull the plug when the time is right. I would hate to see him become another BB King

>>>It's getting sad to watch.<<<

^^^THIS.  I said my goodbye in Las Vegas.  Would rather be on the JRAD train at this point; half the cost and twice as good.

Understandable here on the negative reactions, its a six hour drive for me and a day off work. Totally agree waiting this long to announce is total BS. Maybe they didn't want to announce JK and SJ without adding more of a bang for our buck, hopefully they are working on the bang.

Pretty sure you can count on JK and probably Stanley Jordan, Joan would help save the sinking ship imo. Larry and Theresa would save the day

All this Family Band talk is 100% worst case end of the world paranoid delusion and i'm holding out optimism this won't be the case. Nothing more than a couple songs sit in at best(well worst), i'd bet on it.

Hoping they are working on something special. Ultimately i trust Phil not to screw us. I'm not telling everyone to go buy tickets, just step away from the ledge a bit folks.

I'm with you Ms. Christine. Fafa too. I guess Phil and Shappy still assume we are an easy money target.

I agree with you 100%. The locals are throwing the dice and buying tickets no matter. Lucky them. Those who have to make serious travel arrangements taking on board big  financial commitments and the rest are screwed.  It does suck. Having said that Phil, Jill and Shappy understand this and I believe those in attendance will be well rewarded with outstanding players and I am not talking about JK and SJ.  Unfortunately that will add insult to injury and double suck. On that basis I am ready for a couch run.

family band recreating 6/7-9/77 winterland run

ross james to play samson and delilah every night.

Pretty sure you can count on JK and probably Stanley Jordan, Joan would help save the sinking ship imo. Larry and Theresa would save the day>>>>

Save the day?    Do not get me wrong as i am sure it would be played very well but still old players and old hat. Now throw in a Bob Dylan or a Trey  or a Jimmy Herring in that mix and we are going places.

Bob Dylan??????

Phil's shows are a rip-off. You pay two to three times the price to see the musicians play with Phil. Half the time, they don't rehearse. It's better when a group of well oiled musicians like CRB, or improv masters sit in, but still.

What hurts is it seems that the biz model is to sell tickets to generate the revenue that's then used to find a warm body.

Just doesn't feel like it's the music and fans being put first at those prices.

I sure hate to miss but I am in the Merrieweather Girl camp on this run.  I am not burning 3 vacation days for that lineup.

The Ogden> RR  JRAD weekend is more to my liking.

>> Do not get me wrong as i am sure it would be played very well but still old players and old hat. Now throw in a Bob Dylan or a Trey  or a Jimmy Herring in that mix and we are going places.

those would be special guests.

Shapiro is a businessman, and not a bad one at that. At this late a date, it's bad business to not have announced a line-up, now they're pissing their customers off. The only conclusion is that there is no line-up yet. And at this late in the game, things become more difficult. Just like anyone else, musicians have to make travel arrangements too. Last minute flights get more expensive, local hotels fill up.

If you have something great, you advertise it. If you ain't got shit, you keep your mouth shut. They ain't got shit.

And for all the ticket holders, I really do hope I'm wrong. But no matter what the line-up, I'm sitting this one out. And I'm about an hour's drive away.

>>>The Ogden> RR  JRAD weekend is more to my liking.<<<

Amen!  Definitely worth the effort and expense.  Most bang for your buck wink

ok i am now saying that imo this run is going to be an a- list tribute to phil.  it is a surprise.

I'm less then an hour away from the Cap. It's Phil's birthday so, I'm in.

I fully understand the lack of lineup announcement being a concern.

The thing is that no matter who is in the lineup, some will like while others will comlplain.

With so many past line ups, that's just the way it is.

In addition 2 questions about the lineup, people now have different theories about why the late announcement.

Some think it's cause it's going 2 B a swell line up, while other think it's gonna suck.

Anybodies choice.  Phil & Shap can hear your voice.  Or maybe not.

IMHO the lineup including special guests (if there are any & if they R special) is already known, but by (very) few.

Why the wait 2 announce, then?  Got me.

If only we could be less blind
If only we knew what to find
Everywhere and all of the time
It's bending our minds

Confusion's Prince is at our door
The crown we wear is the one he wore
He's here to bring us down some more
And bend our mind

If the core band is The Family Band, they may have a non-compete clause in the Brooklyn Bowl contract. If that's the case, there should be an announcement next week.

I believe it is TFB plus JK and possibly other special guests. The guests could include an A lister (Trey is doing solo shows in the northeast just before these shows, so it is possible he could sit in for a birthday song or two), or maybe not.

There was a birthday show at TXR one year where Chris Robinson appeared as a surprise gift to Phil. It is possible the lineup has not been announced because it is a surprise for Phil, as relio suggested above.

Que Sera, Sera,
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours, to see
Que Sera, Sera
What will be, will be.

as was said:   it is phil. it will be phun.  i'm in.

Zooey, I believe the birthday shoe where Chris showed up was the one where some scheduled musicians were very sick & couldn't play.

If memory serves me well (which is open for debate) Jackie G played but was not in good shape at all.

Without Phil's knowledge, Chris was contacted at the last minute.  He played the entire second set, & Phil was very happy.

Both Brooklyn Bowl & the Cap R Shap run venues, so I'm not sure any non-compete clause would B in effect.

In any case, Brooklyn is next week, so we shall C.

I agree with Relio's statement above.  It is Phil.  It will B phun.

smiley

Yes, NYC Dave.  It was 2014.  The 2014-03-14 show was the "Theraflu Crossroads" show, as Quinn named it.  I think it was supposed to be JGe and Anders, but they both got sick.  My iTunes says Danny Click, Tom Hamilton, Ross James, Emily Sunderland, and Phil handled the vocals that day.

Phil's birthday was the next day, 2014-03-15.  JGe was back that day, but not Anders.  My iTunes says JGe, Phil, and TH handled the vocals on the first half of the show. CRob came out and took it from there.  Emily Sunderland sang with CRob on the encore (Midnight Hour > Whole Lotta Love).  At the beginning of Bertha, Phil says Chris Robinson "came to surprise us" and Chris was "one of the top 2 birthday presents" he got in his life.  I think I remember hearing at the time that Jill had arranged the surprise for Phil's birthday.

If it's family band plus then I'm moving over to Brooklyn for JRAD.....JRAD is an awesome fall back and I'm good with that.

DEAR GOD The Nut Has Already Busted and That Was Several Years Ago ...............  Fuck Crusty Anything !

FAMILY BAND I Hate That TERM !  jeeeeesus freakin Christ  SHUT UP !

Pretty funky After Midnight opener on 3/14/14.   I love the Girl From the North Country from that show. Crosby on fiddle, beautiful rendition.

Not to get too off topic here, but I started listening back to this show... very unique UBC.  Crosby ripping fiddle with Tom Hamilton on lead at times.  MacDougal blended nicely.  GREAT version. Thanks for reminding me of this show.

It's not the family band...Midnight North has a show in LA on the 17th...might get Ross James but that's it...it's the band that's been on here for a hot minute...the zone always knows..either rage or stay home and complain (or see JRAD which I'm sure will b raging as well)..

I've had lots of Fun & Laughs the handful of times I've attended the P&F Cap shows.

However, I've avoided some of the 'Clunkers' and attended ones where I thought the batch O' musicians had great potential. Still, it's expensive for me to attend one of these. 100 for a ticket, 100 toward a 'rheum' , 50 gas & tolls, 50 Food & Beer.  That is reality, although twice some Very Kind Zoners have gifted me a free Ticket, and other VKZ's have generously discounted Lodging fees.

Every Discount has a Disco.  There is no 'Idi Amin' in 'Teamwork'.

I will probably attend the 3/15 & 3/16, IF I can get in touch with the nice Port Chester Dog-sitter lady AND coordinate with trusted Zoners for shared lodging arrangements.

Hüsky says "Dude for 500 thingummies, tha moany, ya'll can feed me Steaks & Lamb Roasts all month !! Stupid Humaindecision

My thoughts are "well, how many more times will I get to catch this ??????? stellar band of musical adventurers and "WHO ???"

It's Phil smiley...

I go every spring and every fall, no fail....ever !

See you there ~

Bump for the announcement.

Should be any day now after tonight's show...

In Phil we trust...

Hi Lyn!

At this time-period, a month prior to the shows, I have no idea what unrehearsed group that I might be purchasing tixx for.

But I know for a FACT that my laundry machine is heading South, and that  I can get a pretty nice replacement for about the same $$.

It could always go wrong, but there is that One-Year warranty.

lol....Stu  !!

Hi Bob ...:)

Skipped Brooklyn, I will go to the birthday show...the other 2 only if there's a major player in the lineup. I've seen JK and Stanley Jordan, they're not bad. Prefer that to the Fam Band lineup at Brooklyn Bowl this weekend.
