Wednesday, January 23 & Thursday, January 24
Grate Room
Doors 7pm / Show 8pm
Ages 16+
Tickets: $79

I'll catch one of these on 1/24....should be fun and high energy! I also have tickets to see Sco with Lettuce at SF Jazz in March......

Scofield and Metzger together should be fun!
The midweek dates hurt, though.

Grabbed a pair for the second night. This is a nice core of Phil, Scofield, Metzger and Crosby.

I’m also looking forward to the SFJazz Sco-Lettuce run!

>> Alex Koford & Tony Leone

Together that's almost one competent drummer

Sounds like a pretty good way to celebrate my birthday...

Right on John!

Again with Alex Koford?  He sucks..............................

i think this one is going to be pretty great with sco and metzger, but yea i dont get the koford thing. i wonder what the more serious musicians honestly think about having koford and james on board so much...im sure none of them say anything, but im sure zoners are not the only ones confused by the koford situation. scofeild is a world class jazz musician thats played with the best of the best since the 60's...if most of us can hear how poorly koford plays im sure he can to...honestly its a little disrespectful to one of jazz's living legends to give him equal billing with a barely competent bar band drummer...i get it, not every show can have russo or molo due to logistics...but it seemed like drummers like jaz sawyer and erza lipp were coming into the terrapin thing, and while they are not mindblowers they are both well over competent, and now they dont even play terrapin at all anymore. dont get it.

Koford is a lifelong family friend of the Lesh's and will likely not be drumming but there to sing, and I doubt most musicians have much issue with that. Either way, I'm fairly sure everyone who plays with Phil, especially in his personal little playroom understands the situation.

As for Scofield, for me personally he has been a dud every time I've ever seen him with Phil going all the way back to those Warfield "jumper" shows, and this often used line... "He's a world class jazz musician thats played with the best of the best since the 60's" is IMO what scorekeepers say, who are more impressed with names or technical skill than with is actually played.

Obviously lots of folks disagree and our ears all work differently, but to me Scofield playing with Phil has always sounded like a guy fumbling around trying to find a way into a musical flow he isn't versed in and/or a guy speaking rigid mathematical quotations instead of actually participating in a live conversation.

I'm not sure I'll make either of these, and as always if I am there I'll do my best to leave my preconceived notions at home, but I'm not too concerned if I don't make these two shows.

But for those who do go I hope you love it and WHOOP IT UP!

I've seen Alex Koford more than a few times with Phil as a singer, no drums, and my guess is that he'll be there to sing and possibly play back-up rhythm guitar, not drums since Leone will be there. I don't like Koford's drumming but I do like his vocals.

I completely agree with Lance's post about Scofield, too.

>>>>>>honestly its a little disrespectful to one of jazz's living legends

lol

Right on Judith.

Alex sang beautifully and the other night and his drumming has improved I do miss Ezra and will admit to 100% agreeing with Lance's post    And judit's comments

perhaps throwing two different chemicals into the pot will work Someday   But is the myth or mystery ehy you think the two opposites attract and synergy happens

oh ya    He fucking always charges too much money when he brings in one professional

How long has it been since Phil played with Jeff Sipe? He was no Molo but he could definitely hang

Nepotism with a dwindling cast of friends

Phil sounding like Trump...

Does Mulvaney play the drums?

Fake Fat Donna on vocals? Pretty low.
