STOP Right There Idiot

Anyone going to show?

Heading down from CNY. Wondering if there are any good bars or restaurants nearby for pre-game activities

Anyone know if Phil is doing two sets? Heard people talking at Summerstage who made it seem like there were would be several performances prior to Phil taking the stage..haven’t seen anything like that mentioned anywhere else..

I'm going to the show tonight. Also looking for a spot to pre-party. I don't know much about what's close to the apollo. Trying to figure that out now

I used to live right down the street.

Wow, have fun.

30 seconds in and its buffering already

sigh

buffer the vote!

Fail.

Just as well; too busy to actually watch. I'll catch the audio eventually.

Not working for me on phone or computer, Rob. It's making squeaky metallic-like sounds.

Relix is working for me.

Relix is loud and clear now

Memo to Nikki -

Your attempt to channel your inner Pigpen on Lovelight is a major failure. Don't do that again.

It's also rude to take a knee and turn your back to the audience while the gospel singing guests are singing although I hope you learned something by watching them along with the crowd.

Thanks Taper Rob!

Lighten up, Sammy. I thought NIcki did a fine job Improv'ing something that sounded NOTHING like Pigpen .

">Love The One You're With

I love Phil Lesh!"

I love him too, but that was the worst version of that song I ever heard and had to turn it off at that point.

Based on the negative feedback about TFB I've read here, I was often be surprised on how good some of the shows I've streamed have been.

Last night was not one of those times.

TFB has decided very recently to move quickly to the heart of the songs leaving out any of the subtle buildup's and even skipping multiple verses in a mad rush to get to the chorus's and jams. They want to be JRAD and RMFJ is the one setting the pace.

Phil (and to some extent RMFJ) is the leader of a cover band that covers a cover band that covers him.

May as well go see the real JRAD for 1/3 of the price.

I thought RMFJ was gonna crowd surf last night.

these lists just look terrible. phil’s just a baby sitter now for amateur musicians. weird stuff. grahame has no shame.

It's a bit disheartening when you're hoping for Alex Koford to sing soon.

Niki, the choir, and Erik saved this band last night. Talib for one song, and it looked like he was walking by to get a slice, hopped on stage rapped, and then exited opposite side of stage lol

If the choir and robert Randolph was on stage the whole show it would have been great. That was the highlight imo, shappy was coked out of his mind on stage when he did his intro..idk FAKE BILLING  No Phil and friends..

I don't get why they let RMFJ even take a vocal lead. He has absolutely no tonal range and just talks thru the song (he's no Lou Reed) - which is ok if you are a 78 year old bass player. Who would have thought Phil could sing better than someone less than half his age?

I don't mind his guitar playing and his enthusiasm hasta help this band (as Graham can seem lethargic at times), but last night's Tangled was not even a Dylan approximation (vocally).

People will always bitch & moan about every damn thing.  We are pretty darn Lucky to still have East Coast Phil,  something like 53 Years past Grateful Dead started out.

While I did not attend last Night's Apollo Theatre show,  I got to hear some of it,  and by set II they were sounding OK.

Also heard streams of Holly Bowling,  moe. , Billy Strings,  String Cheese,  and even 'Touch Of Gravy' from Fresno.

It was a Bountiful Friday night of Tunes after running the tractor all day.  The Tractor was built around 1962 (no shit) and is Still Alive.

All this Music comes from the Americana Folk roots that the Grateful Dead planted.  Or close cousins.

Be thankful for what you've got left,  and stop whining all the time.  smileywinklaugh

Low standards make for good living, sez Derpy Stu.

Since Phil moved to the Family Band meal plan, I've saved myself roughly two grand in tickets/travel/etc. For that I thank him.

I did tune into the webcast for a bit. Phil still has the chops and Crosby is OK but beyond them I have to quickly look away before it gets uncomfortable.

>but last night's Tangled was not even a Dylan approximation (vocally).

I have to guess that RMFJ is the only one who knows the words. There really can't be any other reason.

I don't question whether "Ateix"  was born an absolute douchebag,  or merely hatched upon a rooftop into a long line of douchebag families.  Perhaps s/he went to school for that.

My question would be,  with that sort of talent, will  s/he form schools to train others ?
Or is it inherited traits that determine the potential,  like a three - eyed Carp ?

Anyway,  the Apollo show sounded OK to me,  but cellar-dwelling internet troll has never attended an actual concert featuring Phil Lesh.

>>'Touch Of Gravy' from Fresno

Did my web friend TH start a new band? Thought he had to work last night.

Three-eyed carp, ftw.

Interesting article about Ross Jamss... I learned something....

https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/02/23/learning-to-love-the-grateful-dead/

Seven years ago, before Terrapin Crossroads existed, James was working 9-to-5 for an audio production company in Sacramento and playing in the Bathtub Gins, a country cover band. His life changed when he answered a Craigslist ad that said: “Looking for a guitar and pedal steel player aged 18 to 24 who likes David Rawlings and Larry Campbell.”

“It was like it was written for me,” he remembers. “I was 23 at the time, the only one in my age group who responded to the ad.”

It turned out to be from a group called Blue Light River, a band formed by Lesh’s youngest son, Brian. James drove to Marin for his audition at the Lesh home in Ross, one of Marin’s wealthiest enclaves. It was a pretty eye-popping address for a struggling young musician who grew up with a single-mother in Detroit.

“I’m not from here and I had never been to Marin County before,” he says. “So it was a bit of a shock just to be in that neighborhood.”

After being led into a downstairs studio furnished with a grand piano, James knew he wasn’t auditioning for your average garage band.

“I had never seen a grand piano in anyone’s house before that,” he says.

And then there were the photos on the walls of Lesh on stage with stars like ...

Two things

1 yes we are lucky to still have a lot of this still happening in our lives, some of it is fantastic, a blessing, some decent and some not

2   When I step on the piece of dog shit I almost always say oh fuck dog shit !

long live phil Lesh. A complete gift an blessing (for my whining I would say bring back the Q)

Free rebroadcast of the Phil show tonight at 6pm (eastern), enjoy!
