Man they brought some Cros and that is awesome.

Looks fun - how were the harmonies on some of those Crosby numbers...

Some thoughts on Phil at the Mission in Denver 2.5.23

Thank you Zooey for your generosity. We felt very lucky to be there to experience the magic and the beauty that Phil conducts from the muse. That conduit extended through all the musicians.

The first set felt pretty eclectic and everybody had a chance to shine. With six singers, the vocals were shared and the horn players/singers brought new phrasing to the songs. One of the things I like about this band is that it frees Phil up to play bass without having to sing many leads.

He did sing The Wheel and dropped a bone shaking Phil Bomb during it as well.

Grahame on acoustic with Crosby open tuning for Laughing was sublime. Harmonies were spot on.

There was a projection screen behind the band and during the break they were showing various clips from the Grateful Dead Movie while the music being played was jazz fusion - maybe Herbie Hancock. The image changed to showing the band backstage laughing, hugging and then a group circle of mindfulness and intention setting and they came out and delivered an amazing set of music. Jen delivered Stella Blue and Phil gave us another bass massage. The horn arrangements for Let it Grow and Terrapin were awesome. Tasty nuggets.

Music is Love……. Indeed. The band really sent their love and appreciation to the Crosby cosmos.

The audience was there for the music and nobody near us was talking. The audience really came alive during the band introductions and showed each player some big love.

Just a note of concern for Phil. He looked to be walking very carefully as he came on and off stage. More than the "old man shuffle" The way a person in pain moves. I hope he is okay. Love that man. Viva La Zone!

He walked that way , very gingerly last summer also. Which actually paid dividends to me in Lafayette when he sat on a chair behind the speakers for a rest after the show. He saw my daughter and i standing there looking for a set list for her and came over and said hello. Got the setlist too, Amy gave my daughter hers

Agree with Stringtwang.

Harmonies were strong... a great night!

Hanging out in sunny Denver til my evening flight.

Now that's a show I can shake and dance to unlike that Wolf snooze fest on Saturday

Here is what's popular in Denver for girl fan giveaway -- complete with a miracle bracelet -- from a lady dressed in pink disco wear... the yellow powder looked suspicious but pretty sure it's glitter.

Agree, as well.

The only negative was Rick. He noodled a lot when the song needed BALLS (Scarlet jam comes to mind). Phil and Molo drove the music, and did a great job. Phil was clear in the mix.

The Crosby selections were great. Coincidentally, we dusted off If I Could Only Remember My Name a week ago on a road trip through NW Colorado to Utah. Such a great album. Phil matched that tone, and was worth the price od admission alone. Laughing was the song of the night.

nice nedb!

any of these chances to get to see our leader are precious.

and agree goose guy is not up to snuff. the horns more than make up for it kinda. wish they are incorporated more. ps. natalie is fine.

I went to both of these shows. Vocal harmonies were on point and improved everything they sang on. Their solos were fantastic as well. The Crosby tributes were all really well done except 8 miles high (I thought that was train wreck).

Transitions and jams were predominantly bad. Even Phil seemed off of his game and maybe that's why things petered out. This run didn't come close the excellent music that Phil brought 2 summers ago. Deep Elem was a highlight as that was given a New Orleans treatment and was the funnest one I've ever seen. Scarlet actually jammed out well and I thought was headed towards Fire. It was one of the better jams of the weekend. But it fell apart and they came back to the Scarlet coda. Theme for the weekend. Take a song. Have a non-coherent jam that goes to silence then start back up with the songs theme.

I usually love Phil and try not to miss an opportunity to see him. I had a lot of fun with friends and family but musically it was a miss.

Yep, both the Vail and Lyons shows were far superior. They achieved lift-off.....and I attribute that to Stu and Holly.

is there a recording of the Vail show available yet...?

The Grateful Dead suffered its share of ">" fail.  As has every post-Garcia endeavor.

At least one of those upcoming Chicago shows with Warren will be great

<At least one of those upcoming Chicago shows with Warren will be great>

Why's that?!  Is Warren doing something new we don't know about?!
