I have to admit I was really impressed with this bands interpretations of this music from only seeing the freeviews. They played complicated stuff like H/S/F perfectly IMO. Are these guys studio musicians? Being the first time playing with Phil they did a fine job!

I'd love to know the back story on this band.  I agree, they're tight, vocals are focused, hitting their notes...   still, not the virtuosity of some of the other friends, but it's pro sounding thru and thru.

They have played before though, here's a few vids;

and a few more;

Cool! Thanx Noodler!smiley

Whatever the answer is is that these guys know how to play and they're (Mikey) good players!

Keep dropping my name do little, and I'll keep dropping yours.

Damn. JRAD is a raging rock band.

The jam in Throwin' Stones from that clip is searing.

^

Loved the montuno

Guessing there might be a show delay due to a severe thunderstorm warning

...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 845 PM CDT FOR CENTRAL DAVIDSON AND WEST CENTRAL WILSON COUNTIES... At 811 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Bordeaux, or just northwest of downtown Nashville, moving southeast at 25 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

Phil should just stay at home. It's always nice here.

There's no water because it never rains anymore, and there's no air because everything is burning, but otherwise it's always very nice here.

Power is out. Bring on the acoustics!

> The jam in Throwin' Stones from that clip is searing.

"Searing" is the right word. I think that jam must have scorched more than a few heads.

Lights are on!!

Hopefully no digital oopsies from the power outage

Forgot about the beach ball. Dude next to me hit it into the guy singing. Oops.

What kind of tepid, cleancut crap is that?

Grahame Lesh and Friends play Grateful Dead hits with one member of the original band.  It's like Grateful Dead if acid never got invented.

Place probably smelled like Prell shampoo and deodorant.

^LOL

Music has too many edges and not enough flow. I can understand Phil wanting to mix it up with younger players, but makes it harder to achieve proper liftoff.

Shapiro: Jill, I need you to fly Phil out, my private plane, of course, and play my bowling alley in Nashville. They are going to foreclose on the place unless I can sell some tickets.

Jill Lesh: Peter, as his manager I’m very concerned about Phil’s health. And unfortunately, Stu Allen just hired away Phil’s band and he doesn’t have anyone to play with him anymore.

Shapiro: Did I say private plane? And did I mention that I have a few local musicians that will play for a pair of shiny new bowling shoes – you don’t even have to pay them out of your own pocket -- but more importantly, they have been genetically modified not to transmit Covid. They are fresh outta the test tube. As an added bonus, we engineered their DNA so they are incapable of complaining or questioning authority, so you will love working with them.

Jill Lesh: Can Graham come? We need someone with us who knows how to text. And can we bring a girl so people will actually watch the stage?

Shapiro: Sure, just get down to Nashville pronto – the suburbs are booming and I need to capitalize on this emerging market before Bob Weir steals the crowd.  How’s Phil look in a cowboy hat and sarape?

Jill Lesh: Not too good. But throw in another million and I’ll have him show up in his birthday suit.

can someone explain why there is always 3 guitar players?

Why does it require an explanation?

I listened most of what I heard with an excellent pair of headphones.  A lot of nice interplay and "counter-lead" stuff going on.

I really enjoyed the 3 nights, pro playing, great interplay, no skyrockets though...   similar to Bobby, it's a pop act, only a rock and roll band (vs a lounge act)

I think the difference that this band lacks is very effectively demonstrated with JRAD's sneak peek I posted above

But I still find it fun dance music as was Billy and the Kids,  even if the adventurous / exploratory nature isn't there...   for that bring on Dead and Co JRAD

> can someone explain why there is always 3 guitar players?

> Jill Lesh: Can Graham come? We need someone with us who knows how to text.

I guess it's all what you are comparing it to.

But Yale Bowl '71 Phil Lesh would never aspire to this level of average-ness.

> can someone explain why there is always 3 guitar players?

cause it's really hard to sneak 4 guitarists into the free breakfast buffet at the Corte Madera Best Western?
