Phil & Friends Cap Run March 2017

Forums:

Reinstating the CAP Run thread.... who's got intel on the lineup, again? cheeky

Phil and The Family Band.

That neighborhood is hella dangerous. Too close to CT.

If I never have to return to that ghetto I'll be happy.

I'd rather see Phil at his private bar in San Rafael.

*toke*

Like LLOLLO said:

who's got intel on the lineup?

phil and the return of brian lesh n co.

Have you been there?  What's dangerous?  Seen at least 20 shows there.  I don't feel I'm in danger ever.

Zippy just want to be noticed Augest

He's trolling lightly

i really am unconcerned about lineup

signed,

bday lemming  (;

(in any case~we've got our patio room!!!)

I have have been there countless times over the years and recently. Port Chester is heroin central. Heads have been mugged before and after the show. One kid got his jaw broke there in broad daylight by a junkie. He told them to stop selling to young heads and they knocked him out and ran away. The Cap is located in a wasteland between Connecticut and NYC. More dope in CT. than you could imagine.

Why would I post that a hood was dangerous if I have never been there? If I wanted to troll there is far better bait. I've never drank water in Flint, MI. but I've been there. Does that mean people aren't getting sick?

Excuse me if I would rather see a show at a quality venue on the water with actual security to keep the fans safe.

FYI... I am reporting trolls to the moderators here to keep this place drama free. I am an unofficial moderator as it were. We could use your help as well. Thanks for your far fetching input.

PLEASE BE SAFE IN PORT CHESTER. Do not wander alone. Go to Garcia's and wait for your people there.

*toke*

That wall across the street where everyone vends is dope heaven. The cops are more concerned about directing traffic than keeping people safe. Fact. Screw the Capitol Theater. My honest opinion.

Halfway decent concert hall otherwise but not worth the gamble.

*toke*

Have been to the Cap for over 60 shows (live in Central NY) since it reopened in '12. Have walked in and out of there in virtually every state of mind, often alone and have never felt unsafe. Have also never seen anything untoward.

See you on 12/30 and 31 for JRAD!

Been to the Cap for many a Phil show...never heard or saw anything your saying....but thats just me

I once walked from Coney Island to Penn Station high on acid because the vending machines weren't selling metro cards at 3am. Saw some nasty parts of Brooklyn. Made it through unscathed. Does that mean Brooklyn is a safe place to be after the bars close?

>>>>>>> Too close to CT.

Yup dem Greenwich gangsta's be packin' for a take down.

Yes because the opioids epidemic is only centered around inner cities. *sarcasm alert*

What kind of blinders are you wearing?

*toke*

Zip I live near Willimantic, ain't no Sketchier place in CT than that . . . was Renown in the late '90's as the "Heroin Capital of New England"  Not much has changed . . .

CT you shithole

most, if not all of the folks that I've seen on that wall have been part of the jamband tribe vs. locals. so if you're seeing drugs there, they came with the music scene.

not saying the town is squeaky clean, but right across the street is a church that seems to have disco type lighting with latin music for the youth which is often still cranking after walking out of a Cap show. the restaurants on Westchester Ave and down on Main Street are heavily latin flavored (argentinian, peruvian, etc.)

again, 60+ shows with no concerns. most i've seen was a bit of wookie factor back when Furthur was playing and they were doing a little Shakedown on the side or in the parking lots. certainly have not seen cranking tanks of nitrous or anything.

>>>Been to the Cap for many a Phil show...never heard or saw anything your saying....but thats just me

No thats not just you, its everyone but Zippy.

Jill, we got birthday shows, lineup is not a big concern.

I've walked -solo- to and fro the Cap from the parking garage more times than I can shake a kitty at.  Never had any problem, never felt unsafe. I'm not saying that's everyone's experience, nor am I saying something won't ever happen, but I've never had an issue.

Can't wait to do it again in March!

maybe bobby can bring kimock back into the mix for 2017.

fucking stranger things have happened..........

Zippys gotta be trolling with that comment... You would have to be a complete candy ass to believe Port Chester is a shady neighborhood.

When all you do is walk from your car to the venue I'm sure you will be fine. For the rest of us that live in the real world Port Chester is a junkie capitol. Try to look outside of your bubble. As I say, if I never return to the ghetto I'll be very happy.

TXR is the safe place to see live music.

*toke*

There isn't a town in the country that doesn't have it's share of junkies.

I've never had a problem in Port Chester, and I've never just walked from my car to the venue. Hubba's for late night snackin'!

I am waiting for the lineup before deciding on going.  Philoween was a blast!

This thread is hilarious. I live in port Chester--about a 15 minute walk from the cap. Spend plenty of time walkin around town and I consider it very safe, and homeless-hard core drug free. Can't comment on what might go on at 2 am in the morning, but port Chester is an awesome place to live--even without the cap. Having Greenwich 10 minutes away is a nice perk too.

Sam

Coney Island to Penn Station,wow....what a walk .....through some pretty bad areas.....give you credit for that one.....phil at the beacon I walked to Penn Station down Broadway, Blizzard, shows just because I could walk down the middle of Broadway, got to Penn and all trains canceled.....

Never seen any problems with the neighborhood either. Personally, I like it.

>>>See you on 12/30 and 31 for JRAD!

Be there on NYE myself Mark. Like to meet up. First round's on me!

(((I am reporting trolls to the moderators here to keep this place drama free)))

All right Zip!

>>>>FYI... I am reporting trolls to the moderators here to keep this place drama free.

Yeah, Zip. Actually if you could just take a breather on that for now, we would appreciate it. We're very busy with the launch here.

Twenty seven emails for Zippy so far; various reported infractions include other zoners not understanding "the struggle", disagreements on basic geography, and Zippy's apparent inability to accept the Gregorian calendar. Pretty sure he was weeping during one particularly emotional email I received in the Viva inbox late last night. It was difficult to read.

Chuck, sure. Will most likely be at Inca & Gaucho's for pre-show dinner.

Going night before as well.

Hoping to go to BB too. Unfortunately got shut out on tix when they went live. Have picked up one so far, but need a 2nd to preserve marriage :)

The first P&F shows they had there (my only shows so far at the Cap) were chill. Both nights I slept in my car down the street (received a $20 parking ticket each night) and was never bothered. Also, wandered around the town by myself and didn't get bothered by any trouble. I think those who get harassed by crime filled hooligans are those who have a demeanor that draws hooliganism.

I heard jambone is going to be at every show.

Zippy has no idea bout port Chester...place is alive and raging..

When all you do is walk from your car to the venue I'm sure you will be fine<<<<

Yet you poo poo'd the threat of rattlesnakes @ Red Rocks for those who wander on the trails or into the bushes.

Been there many times, never felt anywhere near being unsafe.  But now... even miles away within the confines of my suburban home, a sense of fear is creeping over me.

"Port Chester is alive and raging."

I just spit coffee. That shooting gallery is nowheresville.

I will laugh when the first zoner is mugged. Don't say you weren't warned.

*toke*

^^^^

taking pleasure in another's misfortune?

Nope. I won't be laughing at the misfortune. I'll be laughing at the ignorance of those

who see no evil and think that everything is fine. If you actually paid attention you would know

exactly what I meant. Jambands have always booked shows in cheap areas to maximize profit.

This scenario is bound to bite us in the ass as it has countless times before.

*toke*

Port Chester has its fair share of dumpster divers as does NYC but that does not change the brilliant environment pre show and post show.  And just like NYC do not walk down those dark and outa the way alley ways.  Love the area for its great variety  of diners, dive inns and dives.  Adds to its own unique flavor.

No one is talking about dumpster divers or homeless. In fact I never saw any homeless people there.

Very few dark alley ways either. The crime is right out in the open in the day for anyone with perception to see.

I guess I have been away from the zone for too long because the blatant ignorance here is surprising.

I'm starting to remember just how blind some of you are.

*toke*

Yes some of the venues that jam bands play at are in neighborhoods that are run down/unsafe.   I would say that's more a reflection of the theatre being built in an area that was once thriving and then became depressed.  Plenty of places in nice areas.  If some of these venues are in fact unsafe, there must be some data to reflect this sentiment.

Either way I've said my peace. I could say that water was blue and people would argue.

Y'all enjoy any Cap shoes that come along. I ain't going anywhere near that shit hole.

I have seen the danger first hand. I'm 4,400 miles from there anyway...

*toke*

4,400 mile away, where are you?

don't not you know, port chester is like camden NJ!

bwahahahha. give me a fucking break.

Now Port Chester is running amuck with blind people.  Look out people they are dopers who mug deadheads!  This place is chock full of good humor!

Portchester is pretty freakin' cool.....walked everywhere, good eats if you know where to look.....never felt threatened, no panhandling....nothing...

The Captain is correct

I would love to say I am waiting for the line up, but in all actuality I know there is no way I am making it this year and am grateful to have made it last year. The Q was solid, and so glad to have made the effort. If it is the Q again, that would be pretty cool. Looked like Jimmy was having a blast, as was the rest of the band!IMG_6264.jpg

Sometimes people attract a bad element due to their demeanor or lack there of......

I've been to the Capital at least 25 times in the past four years and never once thought that I was in any danger.

And The Q would be a real treat and IMO has a real chance of happening.

Agree....and Agree again

This thread is hilarious. I live in port Chester--about a 15 minute walk from the cap. I am sue I saw you hanging out on that shady corner where they sell t-shirts and wicked stickers. Do be careful Sam.  Greenwich scum are tricky and waiting to pounce on the innocent.

Greenwich scum can be hardcore

Captain.....they are very cunning. I was in the taco joint across the street from the cap and in walked this shady character with a skull and roses T-shirt. He must have just came in from across the border (from Greenwich)  His accent gave him away but you could tell  He looked like a  dealer. He ordered a taco and a beer but you could tell he had ill intentions. An hour later he was on the dreaded corner dealing nachos, salsa, and hot sauce.  Very cunning.

>> ... a shady character... with a skull and roses T-shirt.  He must have just came in from across the border (from Greenwich)  His accent gave him away b He must have just came in from across the border (from Greenwich).

I think I ran into this shady character.  His price for the Taco seemed reasonable.  In retrospect I was conned by the skull & roses T.  Sure the taco was yum, but the hot sauce was kind of mild.  At the time I figured no head would water down the sauce.

Now some might say that one should not score hot sauce from a dark corner, that it's nobodies fault but mine.  Still who knew these cunning Greenwich ruffians could b so devious.  Ok no more late night dark corner nachos 4 me   Live & learn.

Now those last two posts said it all....can't stop laughing ....Live and Learn lol

congrats on getting the kids to play along with your "light trolling" zipstar

pssssst, pholks; your replies feed him lololol

(((Port Chester)))

Jill, stop trolling me. I want absolutely nothing to do with you. Never have never will.

Even when you tried to stalk me in person in Philadelphia. Or was that SPAC? Thanks in advance for complying.

Everything I said in this thread was exactly how I feel. That in itself is the complete opposite of trolling.

This will be the one and only time I ever reply to you on the new page. I ask you to do the same for me.

Have a nice life.

*toke*

Jill is just starving for a little attention, and can't accept the fact that nobody here really gives a rats ass about her 2 cents. Remember a whilee ago on the zone when you made  threads stating that u were no longer going to zone, yet to come days later? Very sad to watch. Sure u had a great many years ago but thats over, people saw you for who u really are in 3-d and on the zone. Run along now

She actually tried to pick a fight with me inside a concert with her small children in tow.

Every time I walked by she would shout incoherently at me and or throw something.

She was obviously a zoner but I wasn't sure who. I didn't know who she was

and just thought she was a drunk. One day I saw her picture on the zone and was

like OMG. There's that drunk chick that was slurring Zippy at me. Huge drinking problem

from what I could gather. It was disturbing to say the least. Either way I'm not playing her

games this go around...

*toke*

Is that a pin up on yer head?.....cap is good, truth is there's good n bad everywhere, I've seen a few junkies in San Rafael,  too . most of them are Dead

The Cap is an epic venue. No argument there. Try to follow along.

*toke*

^bump^

Wait a minute. I thought someone said I started this thread???

What What???

*toke*

The truth will set you free....

But someone else has a differing opinion than me! Wahhhhh... Mom! He disagrees with me!

*toke*

Your funny

That wasn't for you.....when your funny I will tell you

Either way, it's looking like you could brush up on your English. How hard is it to add an e onto the end of a word?

Is what it is

What is it? Illiteracy? Are you smarter than a fifth grader?

*toke*

Yep, now you got it, I'm just simple stupid

Study that list and educate yourself then. Illiteracy is a choice.

*toke*

We can't all excel.....obviously

Captain trips is going to hack your account.

tick tock tick tock

>>>> Having Greenwich 10 minutes away is a nice perk too.<<<<

What do you like about Greenwich?

Greenwich is pretty fancy.

*toke*

Bump!

So out of boredom, earlier today I wrote to the CAP  on their FB page to ask when they intend to announce the Friends for March. Here is their reply:

Hey Christine. We're sorry but we don't have the info on Phil's friends yet. We will let everyone know as soon as we can. It's Phil Lesh's 77th Birthday at The Cap so we hope everyone has faith that we will throw an awesome birthday for Phil.

###

I was trying to make the point that those who have to book flights to these shows might want to know the freakin lineup before buying! Is that too much to ask? Sheesh!

John Kadlecik in the lineup please

I hate when they do that....always

I would love to say I am waiting for the line up, but in all actuality I know there is no way I am making it this year and am grateful to have made it last year. The Q was solid, and so glad to have made the effort. If it is the Q again, that would be pretty cool. Looked like Jimmy was having a blast,>>>>>>>>

my last shows,Am doubtful to  ake any pkanled trips back east byt for the q would be hard pressed to pass up.

I really hope its the Q or preferably a lineup that spotlights Sless.  The last Q shows were easily the best Phil shows I've seen since 2007 and some of my favorite ever.  It felt like seeing an old missing  friend, that you never imagined would be possible.

It reminded me again how powerful the music can be.

Going to Stella blues band Friday I'll harass some peeps and find out more but the last time I was there they told me Stanley Jordon is definitely a friend for the run so it doesn't look like da Q but take it w a grain of salt...

I bet the Cap line-up is the Family Band, with maybe an addition or two.  Here is the promo for the 1977 show at TXR next month:

2017 promises to be an exciting year for Phil and the Terrapin Family Band. They have been studying the music, working on interpretations, building musical bonds, and writing new songs - coming from a special place, in a special place.

Next year Phil turns 77 and Terrapin Crossroads celebrates our 5th Anniversary. It’s the 40th anniversary of the legendary Grateful Dead shows of 1977, and of the seminal album Terrapin Station.

Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band featuring Ross James, Alex Koford, and Grahame Lesh along with many special guests will perform regularly in 2017, including shows from that magical year 1977, and a special performance of the album Terrapin Station at the 2017 Lockn’ Festival.

Join us as we seek to gain new insights into the music, community and tradition that is the Grateful Dead.

Phil Lesh and The Terrapin Family Band play 1977
Wednesday, January 25th, 2017

Ha, this morning, I found this message from the CAP in my FB private messages:

"Hey Christine. Just so you know tickets are selling quickly, and we would hate to have you miss out on celebrating Phil's birthday with us. We hope to see you there!"

John Kadlecik in the lineup please<<

That would make not going easier.

I answered the CAP w/ this... I wonder who's handling their social media...surely not Shappy?!!

"C'mon, would you pay in advance $600 for tickets and $1000 for transportation for 2 w/o knowing the lineup, really? There are certain friends, like Stanley Jordan, that I just don't value as highly as say, Barry or Jimmy."

^^^^THIS.

Excellent response

I'm not a fan of Stanley with Phil and I couldn't care less that he plays Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Big whoop-dee-do.

He probably gets paid on the cheap.

Thanks Fitzman! I try. ;)

Wish more people would write Shappy or the CAP or Phil to apply pressure.

Flights are going up in price every day!

They don't care about people's travel expenses and will sellout regardless if some of the out of towners don't buy tickets.

^^^ Evidently not!

^^^^^

they will sell out by March...

Stanley  and Warren?

I agree with LLOLLO.  Even if you don't have a large travel cost  just to get there, people still want to know who's in the band before buying tickets.

If it's Stanley and Co. then you all can have my tickets!

IMHO Stanley is as strong a guitarist as anyone Phil has played with, post Jerry.

If people R not comfortable getting ducats for any reason, then by all means, don't.

anyone,

Really, can you point us to anything on youtube that backs up this claim.

this is a birthday run, has Phil ever trotted out the B list friends for a birthday run, no right?

<<<Having Greenwich 10 minutes away is a nice perk too.

ewww. in what way?

Answering my own question, yes.

Stanley Jordon is not a B-list guest....imho

they will sell out by March...

Did any of the Philoween shows "sell out"? There were tickets for both Friday and Saturday available at the Box Office the day of each show.

Trey, Barry, Molo and Headband.

The first two nights of the Halloween shows were sell outs(always some tickets released at the box office) and the Monday 31st show was pretty close by showtime...March shows will b no different especially after the friends drop...Friday is pretty close without any friends announced yet..plus Phil's 77th...

Music (including guitar) appreciation is subjective.

Making music quality judgments based on youtube videos, shows a lack of judgement skills.

Whatever works 4 U.

You can't tell anything about a guitar player just by listening to a recording.

>>>>>this is a birthday run, has Phil ever trotted out the B list friends for a birthday run, no right?

Wrong.  Terrapin All Stars for 2014.

His best Birthday show so far was his 70th.  However that show had the worst poster of any Phil show of all times.

That show was the one that gave us "Its time to matter, bitches!"

>>>Wrong.  Terrapin All Stars for 2014.

Yes i already knew that, i answered my own question with a yes after doing some research. Look up. ^

Friday is sold out.

>>Making music quality judgments based on youtube videos, shows a lack of judgement skills.

I'm not judging anyone, i'm not bashing the guy at all, just asking for an example of what you think is quality work of his with Phil.

Don't ya'll ever get tired of listening to this shit?

>>>>Don't ya'll ever get tired of listening to this shit?

Sure.  I've been busy wearing out Pull Up Some Dust And Sit Down.

Sorry but I can not keep secrets. Phil Bday Dream Team will feature:

Phil

John Molo

Headband

Chiementi

Warren

Bob Dylan

>>Don't ya'll ever get tired of listening to this shit?

yes around 1993.

In Phil we Trust.

>> I'm not judging anyone, i'm not bashing the guy at all, just asking for an example of what you think is quality work of his with Phil.

First time I saw Stanley play with Phil was at Roseland Ballroom, NYC, on 11/11/12.  (he also played on 11/12 and 11/13).

From 11/11: Mountains > OO > DS > Stairway To Heaven > DS > Watchtower > Dew > DS.

I was also very impressed with the 2015 Halloween Cap Run.  The night B4 Halloween had a Little Wing that was all there.

Halloween second set was Sympathy > Cryptical > OO > Death Don't > DS > Voodoo Child > St Stephen > Fire.

That Voodoo Child smoked.

The next night had a High Time where Stanley's playing stood out.

For my money, Stanley brings so much to the mix.  Again, to each his or her own.

Phil Lesh

John Molo

Joe Russo

Rob Baracco

Jeff Chementi

Bob Weir

Trey Anastasio

Reminder: Unfortunately, Headband is booked in Alaska w/ DNB during that week.

How about Q-Lite.

Jimmy, Warren and Barraco.

Look up ^^

I'd bet it ends up being a few guys from CRB and a few others.  Sounds like Stanley Jordan is one of the others.

Actually i think Keith is trolling us with the Stanley rumor. Headband as in Sless headband, not Barraco headband.

Wrong headband ..

Well i think LLOLO meant Sless Headband although i thought Barraco was The Headband. I'm confused now..

Maybe I'm confused?  Who is the real Headband? ;)

Yes, I meant Sless = Headband.

He and Molo are booked in Alaska during CAP dates. Boo.

lol

Yeah it never crossed my mind why Barraco would be playing with DNB.

Sless is not Headband.  Rob Barraco is.

Ahhhh! Thanks.

I do have a photo of Barry w/o a headband, at the CAP.

Please keep it straight. You can't start calling everyone who wears a head band..Headband. Barraco is Headband and lets leave it at that. Bad enough everyone had to give the poor guy this nickname, let's not stick it on anyone else, please.

Will Phil spring for two drummers outside of TXR?

Barraco did play with the DNBs in Hawaii last year when Mookie was on paternity leave...

Headband is Headband but Sless also wears a headband quite frequently.

I hope so.

Oh my. Get out the BB guns we is a going birdie hunting. The Halloween Lineup in 2015 featuring the above mentioned were good shows but by the last night, in spite of good playing and a great song selection,  I grew very weary of them. SJ style  is very self absorbed and JK all to predictable.  I would be hard pressed to see one show by these guys not to mention a Halloween run. Did someone mention John Molo, or Joe Russo, Rob Baracco, Jeff Chementi, Bob Weir, Trey Anastasio, Bob Dylan, Barry Sless, Warren, Jimmy Herring, Larry cambell and Dave Neslon.

>>The headband brothers band

>>Thanks for clearing that up Fo6.

Two different ways to react to Fog's post. Can you tell the difference?

it'll most likely be a weak band w/ sloppy playing.

the pattern is strong. hope i'm wrong.

My buddy in HS was in a band back then called "The Expanded Headband".

Molo has been the saving grace and  the back bone of some of Phils best accomplishments over recent years. If Molo is not available Russo would be a great friend. But Phil  really needs to pull a rabbit out of his hat and more than one to get the Phans excited.

Q Q Q

Sorry 6, not taking the bait.  Not sure if you miss Dogman or something but I'm not playing the same game you, Bri, and Dogman have for the last year.

lol - It's not a game, Timmy. You have a different approach in responding to certain people here. I am pointing it out. You don't have to accept it. It's a box of rain.

But please don't post to me about "games" when you refer to him as "Fo6". Unless you really wanted to look like a hypocrite.

^Dogman or something but I'm not playing the same game you, Bri, and Dogman have for the last year.

That was a real shit show and boring as fuck to read. Bunch of grown adults acting like petulant imbeciles.

6, you fall back on I was just kidding, it was a joke.  I'm not really a whiny bitch, I just do that for kicks on the zone.  It's kind of your MO when people call you out.

There's nothing hypocritical about thinking you and Fo6 are huge whiny dorks.

I was not kidding, I meant that post.

It was not a joke.

Some people think I am a whiny bitch, many do not.

I wasn't not getting "kicks" by posting that you have a different approach to certain Zoner's posts.

I was pointing out a shining example of your hypocrisy.

>>There's nothing hypocritical about thinking you and Fo6 are huge whiny dorks.

Yes, you are right about that - but that has nothing to do with the fact you can be hypocritical.

I'll work on being less of a hypocrite.  Why don't you worry about being less of a huge bitch.

Hmm, that sounds rather barbed, but I'll do my best.

Ostensibly, tix are still on sale for Wed and Thurs, but I can't seem to pull up any tix on the cap site.

Why are people still screaming for Q when Molo is booked that week w/ DNB?

>>>> Ostensibly, tix are still on sale for Wed and Thurs, but I can't seem to pull up any tix on the cap site. <<<<

I had the same trouble when I went to the Ticketfly website; I couldn't pull up tix for any event, but I tried accessing tix through the email the Cap sent prior to the pre-sale, and I pulled up tix for the first two nights no problem.

If anybody else has the same trouble, try buying tix through your Cap email.

>>> Why are people still screaming for Q when Molo is booked that week w/ DNB?

Either not paying attention or doing a more general whine about bad lineups

They have been playing this game long enough now to know the way to maximize $hapstar profits.

If it were to  be some attractive lineup, we'd already have been told by now.

I'll still have fun at one of the random practice jams, but it's expensive for me to go over GWB, rent hotel, and pay Dogsitting fee.

Washer's starting to act funny, and the Stove is getting old...

If the promoter kicks me down a Groovy new household appliance, I will take that gamble toward 'Sold-Out' tix for unkown lineup.

>>>>>this is a birthday run, has Phil ever trotted out the B list friends for a birthday run, no right?
