These guys!  Living up to the hype and bringing the goods.

I'm sure the in-person intensity level was off the charts... but this 3-night, living-room grooving was immensely satisfying.

What a run, with an amazing group of musicians. Phil shows how it's done.

That's a keeper!

I only heard parts of the previous 2 nights.

How do they stack up in order of greatness?

Wowza!

Just back to the hotel. Attended with my 30 somethng who came to watch Warren & Jimmy trade licks.

My unrealistic wish (discussed before the show) was for I Am the Walrus :-)

At some point in the 2nd set I told him:

"I can't say that this is the best band ever. That's a big boat. But it's the best band ever for me"

The reply: "For me, too. I can't think of another"

Then, they played Walrus(!)

A splendid time was had by all....

Just

Perfect

I love 'just got back to the hotel' immediate reviews, when the reviewer is still buzzing & bubbling from the show, the good time, the entire event, saying what's right at the top of their experience.

A day or a few days gives the reviewer time to think about what they want to say, instead of just saying what's burning in their head in the moment.

Sort of like good jazz improv.

Keep 'em coming.

Just Wow, so grateful to have been there for all three nites.

At one point I just stood there holding my heart and felt tears rolling down my cheeks !!   Big hugs from some long time not seen friends, Love was in the air <3

for anyone going to future shows:

hook and ladder company 1, who bestowed upon Phil that commemorative helmet, has a guy vending not only selling the kickass stickers from then, has added really really special shirts for only 20 bucks a pop.

Had a date there early in the day with my father, in Spirit, at the firehouse. For those who don't know; it is Grateful Dead through and through.... a must see. And he was a fireman, and even as I walked up to it (keep going past the cap away from the train tracks, same side) I began to vibrate. I wasn't even sure where it was. I felt it. Spent a good bunch of time taking a million photos and weeping with happiness.

Really; the Q is transcendent. If you don't know you never will. Lolololol. And if you forgot; they haven't (: (: (:

Very, very nice, and a good example of what I'm talking about.

Thanks.

Gears clicking. Imagine if this was just the beginning of a 20-show tour.

Well that's a keeper. Jelling complete. Love the sound of Warren's turbo SG. Attendees fully anointed.

Goo goo g'joob!

It was really goo IMHO even Medicated Goo

Everybody smoked pot, I assume? ;)

Why we do what we do!!!!

Splendid is the appropriate word. Truly.

Definitely a slipknot before LSD and it was a rollercoaster.

Also.   I would see this band.  Take it on the road one last time.  :)

Listening to that archive link now and it's crazy how the cshonka mixlr link streaming live last night was of better quality than this recording. I'll have to be on the lookout for alternatives

Like 100% better

My guess is the mixlr link is just a rebroadcast of the the paid live feed.

the archive link sounds better than the rebroadcast on the paid Fans stream IMO

BTW; was that the bassist for DSO on the rail Wednsday night? Just noticed during the replay of Franklin's.

>>> Listening to that archive link now and it's crazy how the cshonka mixlr link streaming live last night was of better quality than this recording. I'll have to be on the lookout for alternatives

Archive now has 10 (count 'em, 10!) versions:

https://archive.org/details/PhilLeshandFriends?and[]=date:2021-10-13%2A

My only complaint with the video stream is the compression of the audio. It makes everything the same volume and removes the dynamics. Phil is really good at pick dynamics but it gets lost in the mix because of the compression. My opinion, YMMV.

6 are from the same taper...some 16bit others 24bit

whats the differences? should I care?

Yes he was there in the second row during the second set standing next to me and he was beaming and so proud of his boy Rob

All in all he was indeed enjoying himself and who the fuck wouldn't

it was pretty cute

Oh, you mean my living room (:

voodoo i have always loved you

it ain't fun for me you are #guiltybyassociation

Hugs in real life, ya big so&so

Well, this all sounds exciting.

TBH, I gave up on Phil, during the downspiral of family band mediocrity.

I am thankful for the times we had, but it sounds like I should give these a listen sometime?

Or is this all just post-show giddyness? I mean, people post adoringly after Bro & Slow shows too.
Is there a standout jam, or song, or night?

3rd night is gold!

Unbroken Chain

I was not in attendance, but I thought all three shows were really good, and the third night was one for the ages.

Definitely a lot of post-show glow here, but meat of the second sets was really strong each night, to my ears. Dark Star > Walrus > Stella sequence night 3 was a peak, also Wheel > Terrapin > Dew night 2. If you go in expecting Fall 2001 Q you won't find it, but for these old guys in 2021, especially 81-year-old Phil, it's pretty killer.

The glow is not dimming one iota

Those flashbacks keep coming.... the 3rd show was THAT good

uncle sam: indeed !

each night was special for its own reason

but we all know that

3

is a magic number

and

also 5

Night one was pure sweetness to watch these guys stretching their wings, not jelling yet, but oozing pure talent and showing the depth of songbook they had at the ready!

Day two Phil must have whipped them into shape cause that St Stephen launched out of the gate into the stratosphere and set the pace for the whole show, no one could hold back it was cathartic from beginning to end.  Jimmy shined!!!

Night three Warren lost the slide and found his Jerry.  I heard they practiced Walrus at sound check for over an hour! Well it paid off for that Dark Star meal!  Unbroken was the peak for me. Totally un-earthly at the end too, after Patchwork Quilt the audience just stood there for several minutes craving for a second encore or more likely just totally stunned by the collective experience we all just had.

These are the moments to hang in there for! Viva la Zone!!

^ Love the review, Willytee!

It's truly amazing that Phil had 30 years of the GD, and now 20 years (on and off) with the Q, and there were 6 more years in between, and the man is still going. What a career.

^ Love the review, Willytee!

BUMP

I guess I'm going to have to give the 3rd night a chance. Thanks for the reviews.

Nice to hear that Phil and the boys brought the heat!

i bet the parties are raging!

this is why i am such a Willy T fan

From the opening note of Hunter’s Celebration to Warren’s patchwork quilt, this was Quintessential Q. All 5 were so dialed in the entire night. How do you even list the highlights, but will try: LSD set closer was electric; Phil bomb during slipknot; I am the Walrus was relentless; low spark reprise just exploded out of this multiverse and possibly most heartfelt Stella have ever seen. And didn’t even mention China cat, scarlet fire, unbroken, star AND HSF all in one shoe! God bless the Q!

I haven’t done any post show listening but the last two nights should hold up well.

I am curious to check out the first night again cause it floated by in kind of a blur...

24 bit, usually with a higher sample rate, gives you "high res" whereas 16 bit lets you burn to CD.

Looks like 7 unique sources.  I wonder if any will rise to the top as "the best".

Now if I can just live long enough to see the end of Better Call Saul.
