Phil & Friends December 15 and 17 !!!

Forums:

Zooey tried to post this but viva isn't letting her - posted by the Fillmore on Facebook

2 more great nights with Phil Lesh & Friends just added on Friday, December 15th & Sunday, December 17th!

Pre-sale tickets available Thursday at 10AM with password BACKSTAGE at LiveNation.com.

Public on-sale this Friday at 10AM.

Thanks!

Working now...

No lineup info in advance is never a good sign.

Wow

very nice

> No lineup info in advance is never a good sign.

And it's pretty much business as usual anymore for Phil.

I might try to catch one of these. Kind of weird there's no Saturday show.

$97.00 / tix + fees.

Accessible Tickets Info:

The Fillmore is an all General Admission, accessible venue.

If you need special attention to personally accommodate your needs, please purchase a General Admission ticket, and call the venue directly at 415-346-3000 or email the venue directly at thefillmore @livenation.com.

No Saturday show: Playing more than one night in a row might not be Phil’s thing anymore.

Mother Hips are playing a 3-day run at GAMH the same weekend, so there's your Saturday filler. Their Sunday show is an acoustic matinee!

Getting in line now...

I read on Fb that the pre-sale password is BACKSTAGE. I didn't verify

>> Playing more than one night in a row might not be Phil’s thing anymore. <<

He just played 3 nights in a row at different venues, a couple months ago...
Actually, I guess that was July.

Hmm nothing booked on Saturday. Seems more likely the sell out Friday Sunday and then put Saturday on sale. That's how Live Nation does it.

First Live Nation Presale Begins:

Thu, Nov 09 1PM Eastern time

You go, Mo!

I'm in. Sunday. See you freaks there!

I haven't been back to the Fillmore for a long while. Probably to an Anders Osborn show 7ish years ago. Thanks Phil.

Any "recent" parking advice that wouldn't be obvious in the newly apocalyptic crime ridden SF ? Is the Japan Town garage still the best bet?

(In the past I've walked, taken the bus, parked in the neighborhood without incident, and gotten car broken into at various times thru the years -- even right on Geary practically in front of the place -- which is a bummer after a show.)

Thanks, j!

I kept getting the tickets are unavailable/sold out message. After many attempts, we got some. Anybody else experience this?

Mo, same here. See you at the show(s)!

Hope to see some of you rascals there!

Looking for 1 for each night!

Will try tomorrow, of course.

I got pulled into a work meeting last minute, grrr.

Scored 4 tix12.15 and 12.17.  Lollo might have extra, won't know till Dec, k

Nice Work, Y'all! laugh

Glad to see all of that success. Sorry that your work got in the way, LLOLLO. Maybe keep trying if you have the time. It took us 10-20 attempts for the 15th, and 5-ish tries for the 17th.

Thanks for letting me know that I wasn't the only one with all the failed attempts, Froggy. Thanks to j and Andy for the presale password posts, too.

(((((Go Team Phil)))))

I'm in for Sunday. I had no trouble picking one up just a few minutes ago, LLOLLO.

Is the Presale sold out? I can't access.

^^^^correct

...and thanks Mike, but I had a HELL day at work as well as a round 3 interview with EFF.org in the middle... only had a few minutes between meetings to try.  A seattle taper buddy has an extra Sunday ticket so I'll try for Friday tomorrow.

So Christine, late lunch early dinner chez maman:  Hayes at Gough.  MIke too. OK.  Anyone else?

Tom, I;ll hold a spot at chez maman just in case!

Andy, thanks, maybe I'll pop in for a pre-show espresso and say hi at the end of your meal...wasn't super impressed with their food, but liked the location.

Funny that it was across the street from Absinthe, a place I tried long ago, not sure if it's still the same quality.

A traditional Pre-Phil meet up spot has been Tommy's Joynt @ Geary & Van Ness.

The cool room way in the back before an early century show @ Bill Graham Civic, I was already on the Zone and that was the first time I met Zoners in 3-D. Actually, I mostly sat back and tried to figure which handle went with each of the weirdos there assembled.

10:01 = SOLD OUT

damn bots!

will keep trying

IMG_0754.jpeg

and like magic, it's on TM resale for double the price! grrr

I'll get mine at the show!  Not caving in to TM's tactics!

IMG_0755.jpeg

Yep

Looking forward to seeing some of you at the Sunday show!

I am now on phone with TM giving them several opinions about their company.

10 minute call so far, they put me on hold, ha!devil

Lambaste them lame ass bastards, LLOLLO. Give 'em hell!

$149 at seat geek

Tix now $130.00

guess Phil is silently done with the east coast

^^^ Not necessarily, Jilly.  Look how Eliot Peck responded to my comment on Midnight North's announcement of New England dates in March 2024...

In the past 2 days I've missed out on 2 tickets for Phil 12/15... they are beginning to show up in CashorTrade.org

IMG_0810.jpeg

Any one got an extra for both .. I just found a plane ticket 433 Euro AR lyon sfo...

Tom. if you make it to SFO Suzie will sacrifice her tix both nights for you.

Lol she can hide under my skirt lol The Zone is quite Amazing☆☆☆

Checkin now wit da boss

Excellent

Tom:  Fri $130 tix at stubhub.

And da boss said Y E S ?

boss say's" are you out of your mind?."

yeah, i am. is that a yes?

Know it difficult, but just think:  Once in a life time under $500.  Oh la la.  Grab da flight, boss vas comprendre, n'est-ce pas!

LLOLLO what i wouldnt give to share Phil's bday run with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Christine.  Flights booked.  Hotel booked Ferry to long island for dinner. Oh yah

Flights booked for CAP?!  You must have secret intel or a lot of confidence about an announcement!

Jilly I can't promise a CAP trip next spring but of course it's on my radar if it actually gets announced, as well as DNB Big Island and Phish @ Sphere .... lots of competition!
The Q's gotta do the Sphere before Phil stops playing!

Wish you could out for Phil @ Phillmore!

Yikes just read the other thread about ticket prices at Sphere -- nevermind!

giddyup kids, tickets are beginning to float on CoT!

just got this alert

IMG_0951.jpeg

Syill no rumors as to whom the friends are?

I'm surprised YOU don't know, Woz!

My research so far:  The members of The Q are not booked elsewhere.

Probably some version of the Family Band.

A coincidence or planned PR?

https://ultimateclassicrock.com/warren-haynes-phil-lesh-grateful-dead-rule/

...and tomorrow is Friday surprise announcement day, right? ;-)

Distraction lineup ^^   ;-)

I bet Phil will show up at that one.

I think that's the warm up show for the Fillmore.

Seems so!

What a drag.

I mostly sat back and tried to figure which handle went with each of the weirdos there assembled. <<<

Awesome ! totally awesome !! yescooldevil

Krasno is booked on east coast to play with Jen Hartswick @Brooklyn Bowl

Theory:  If the Family band is the lineup, there's no reason to hold the announcement this late.

I went to see Elliott Peck last night at Sweetwater. Fantastic show!

Theory:  If the Family band is the lineup, there's no reason to hold the announcement this late.

Actually there would be as the Family Band show at the Guild isn't sold out.

I heard Adam MacDougall, Stanley Jordan and Molo but that's just scuttlebutt and a rumor I'm repeating.

Anyone out there going to the Guild tonight just for shits and giggles?

That poster looks more Halloween than Xmas, but whatever.

...and last night's lineup better not be Friday's lineup! ;)

I wasn't impressed with the Guild. I can see it being a good venue for a sit down show for a singer songwriter, but for a "dance band" it ends up being a claustrophobic cattle pen with a shoulder to shoulder crowd squished into a box.

On paper it probably looks like a great design, but the usability is lacking. For instance, they purposely slanted all the ledges so there is no where to set a drink or place a coat. So drinks and coats naturally end up on the floor. And the tiered design also looks beneficial, until one has to navigate up narrow steps just to get stuck in another crowd and repeat the process. It's impossible to escape from talkers and every spot downstairs is a potential pathway for someone trying to get to the bar. No common sense traffic flow. There is no free space in the place and the lobby is just a glorified hallway where they discourage hanging out. Upstairs was just bunch of people siting down filming on their phones. The whole vibe was a struggle to see or to defend territory.

Not a joyful environment. 8 x10 in Baltimore does the small room thing much better.

The  Terrapin Family band has some talented musicians but they rely on the sound man to make Grahame's voice sound good. He's naturally not very emotive. In fact the whole band has no "personality projection." Kinda bland. I can see why they added Nicki Bluhm. Otherwise they come across as a backup band -- which  I guess is what they are. They were having fun though. For me, just another Dead cover band -- every town has one. This one just happens to have Phil's kid leading it.

The  Terrapin Family band has some talented musicians but they rely on the sound man to make Grahame's voice sound good.

Friday night at the Fillmore Elliott Peck was backed by Graham, Lebo, Jen Harswick, Burt Lewis, Nathan Graham and a trumpet player. Now that band had teeth. Elliott has stage presence and emotive vocals to spare. Grahame only sang back up which, frankly is all he should ever sing. Lebo and Elliott harmonize together beautifully. It was a really hot band.

Not a joyful environment. 8 x10 in Baltimore does the small room thing much better.

Rumors abound! I think the band is Stu, Molo, Grham, Phil and keyboard player to be named later.

and last night's lineup better not be Friday's lineup! ;)

Rumors abound! I think the band is Stu, Molo, Grham, Phil and keyboard player to be named later.

Why no support for my Q theory?!   :-)

well at least Stu knows the catalog and has some psychedelic chops...

Mookie? (I heard he had shoulder surgery recently?)

Mookie is recovered for the soldier surgery, he looked fine playing with the DNB last week.

Will say it again, anytime Phil's lineup is not announced, even four days before the show, it is never a good sign. It has all the signs of a money grab. Otherwise, why not announce the players, really?? I've never been okay with that. Just tell people who's in the band.

Unless you simply don't want people to know the lineup while the tickets are still on sale.

sat still unbooked at The Fillmore?

>It has all the signs of a money grab.<

I hope not as the Fillmore should be considered a sacred space at this point at Phil's life. Start there / end there sort of thing.

It doesn't seen too long ago (98) that he redefined his career there with various Phil and Friends.

Here's a good one: https://archive.org/details/plf1998-08-08.km184.137965.flac1644

(Lineup Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Steve Kimock, Jeff Chimenti, Dave Ellis, Prairie Prince)

I'm sorry I missed that Elliott Peck show.... sounds like a good one.

That's my point. Why not announce the lineup? In those days the Phil lineup was always announced. In fact, the announced lineup probably helped sell tickets.

Taking the opposite approach of no lineup announcement seems perhaps sketchy, but definitely lame.

^ Agree. Unless it is purposely intended to be a very special XMas surprise for his fans. I'm skeptical.

More like a "you'll take what you get and be happy about it, hippie." And I usually am.

Also, you'd think the other players, being professional musicians, would want the publicity, but maybe they have no management and/or clout.

well one thing about Phils friends they don't (need to ) rehearse

practice you talking about practice...

Face-value ticket drop by Ticketbastard now in play... just verified.

Act fast!

In Phil I trust.

>>>It has all the signs of a money grab<<<

Yeah, no it doesn't.

Especially given the fervor for all things Grateful Dead these days, Phil would easily sell out two nights at the legendary 1,200 capacity Fillmore no matter who is in the band, even it it was just the Family Band. These two shows sold out in five minutes/a few hours with no band listed, and it's not like the band that Phil used at last month's Fillmore show was stacked with high powered names and it sold out very quickly as well.

I'd say it's much more likely that they simply didn't know who would be in the band when the shows went on sale, and given the new grass-roots, low-fi Terrapin Clubhouse organization that's running Phil's small scene these days they probably either haven't really thought about announcing the lineup once it was decided, and/or since their website isn't up & running yet they don't have an obvious outlet to make the announcement.

Should they have announced the band whenever they knew who it would be? Sure, but the bottom line is that the shows would have sold out no matter what, and ultimately Phil will have a solid (if not fancy "name") band who will be good players who know the material and have experience playing with Phil.

At least in my opinion, that's generally worked OK and at this point in time that's all anyone should reasonably expect.

BTW, it's my hazy recollection that I was the first person to use the term "clubhouse" when referring to TxR, calling it that the first week it opened.

I should have copyrighted that shit.

I'll vouch for heathenton and the "clubhouse" trade mark from back in those early heady hoody mafia days

although, there are a million way beside their website to announce the line up and really wish they had.  None the less,

thanks for heads up LLOLLO on the Tbastards drop.  Grabbed one and fingers crossed Phil comes thru with  lineup that suits me

GTTS

Bret 2! The ORIGINAL Bret! Good to "see" you. I haven't forgotten that you came through with my miracle for the 2nd night of the original run of shows at Terrapin Crossroads. I still appreciate that almost 12 years later, thanks again.

>>>there are a million way beside their website to announce the line up<<<

I completely agree with that, so the question remains, why haven't they? There's no reason not to, since the shows sold out right away with no band details. There's no logical dark, conspiratorial reason to keep it a secret, despite what pride always seems to believe, so why?

Sometimes the explanation for something is the most basic, like they didn't know exactly who it would be when the shows went on sale, and then maybe they never thought, "Oh, we need to announce the band? Oops."

Or maybe they just think it's cool to keep it a secret. Either way, if it isn't the Hallowed Q some people are never going to be satisfied no matter who is in the band, and we all bought tix (or wanted to) even with no idea who the band would be, so I say everyone should just relax and enjoy the show/s.

Or sell your tix to someone who will.

I like your last sentence there.

My man Lance!!. Soo welcome and I'm sure you helped me get ticketed a time or two at the TXR (your trademark too perhaps)  clubhouse. we sure were spoiled back in those days. Free bar bands, now playing clubs, charging healthy ticket prices - well, I say good for those musicians. That's what Phil set the TXR incubator up for in the first place

ISSUES:

Da BAND: Phil rarely disappoints with musician selection, so I am optimistic. Personally, Imma hoping to see Phil and Stu reunite (simple pleasures) although the Q or the Goose guy would be a hoot.  if I really don't like the lineup, I'll offer my ticket up here on this board first dibs

Ticket Sell Out: I wonder if Ticket bastard doesn't hold back normal price sales and throw them up on their resale platform to dynamically Price scalp us? I don't think after fees, scalper bots are making all that much money on these shows.

Venue: OK it may be worth  going just to be in that amazing venue, one more time, regardless of the lineup, but I heard last Phil show was a bit of a shit show with regard to entrance line, and being packed in like sardines, oversold. Any zoners have tips on getting in easy and finding a comfortable place where I can move around a little bit and put the baseball cap down over my eyes, metaphorically speaking, of course

Id probably be on the zone more if I could ever figure out how to correctly reset my password -  probably user error or cache issue, but it's not intuitive.

GTTS!

Listen folks, Phil isn't bringing the Q or anybody close to it this weekend. Expect the dishwasher band that played at the Guild theatre last weekend. My guess is that gig was set up as a bit of a rehearsal, with Phil's participation optional, and he wasn't feeling like making the trip to Menlo Park. But if you think Phil's keeping some A-list band a secret just to surprise his super-innie phan pham at the Fillmore, think again.

Should be a fun time though.

Phil is going to be a blast:  2 nights in December with Stu.  Let's have a good time everyone.  It's the P H I L M O R E.

I'll head down on friday to scope it out. Virtual finger in the air...

Is Sless a wolf-packer on this current Bobby tour?

I see Ron Carter was a invited guest. Any intel on that sit-in?

Thereal (formerlybret 2) - I can help you reset your password, send an email using the "Contact" link on the left side of this page.

ISO Friday...

I think of all the guitarists ,Stu brings out the best playing from Grahame...

Tom:  Wife says; WTF G O ,  GET your arse TO SFO.  Vas, vas y maintenant, Ecoutes moi.  Tu ne m'ecoutes jamias comme d'habitude. Hahaha. S M I L E S

Mcdougal is playing in SD w Grateful Shred on Friday

ooooh good catch! the plot thickens. i messaged the Grateful Shred Insta account to verify... they posted about this show only a week ago...

just because a musician's GF announces a lineup in a very unofficial fashion doesn't mean it's true. ;)

I have the Hall Pass for Sunday and haven;t seen Phil in 5 years so I am going to hit Sunday expecting The Family Band whoever they are these days and just be happy to hear Phil bombs on hallowed ground. Just need to be back for work Monday morning. Tickets are $187 on SeatGeek including fees .

desolé, Andy.. mme a encore gagné.. curently in Champagne popoppppop...

triste pour Tommy crying

((((((((Phil bombs on hallowed ground)))))))

I want that on a t-shirt!

back to the McDougall:  Oddly enough the young deadhead baker who makes and delivers sourdough loaves to homes in Portland by moto is good friends with Grateful Shred! Follow him on Insta @Brainfood_bread. He is a clever entrepreneur.

He was able to confirm that McDougall will be with his band at the San Diego gig!

Maybe it’s Jason Crosby on Friday (he has a Sunday gig) and Adam on Sunday (he has Friday in SD and Saturday in LA but free on Sunday)?

That's a logical guess.

I'll be the first to call it DARKSTAR opener!

Zooey that makes a lot of sense . I am going to Shred Friday maybe I can ask him if he is approachable.

I'll remain cautiously optimistic about the accuracy of this lineup... don't want to have my heart set on Molo only to have it end up being the Nov 3rd [lost] guy.

aww just shut up and go!

It's 100% Molo.

oh I am going, just not allowing myself to have high expectations until Molo is confirmed.

Edit: OK now I'm gettin psyched!

I was on the fence for this for a few reasons, not least of which was the long unannounced line-up, but I'm all in for Sunday now.

80% Molo works also...

LOL! By 100% I mean he actually told me he was playing!

The ticket stock market is crashing.. just received several Cash or Trade alerts with prices below face!

The price is right, scoop them up and bring a date, Zoner dudes!

Is Saturday Night @ The Fillmore a Secret Show for Über-innies that we are not invited to?

I'm looking for 1 ticket to sold-out  Mother Hips at GAMH on Saturday if anyone hears of one.

I'm crossing the Bay bridge as I write this...

Hoping for a live stream!  Have a great show to those going, Phil!!!  Woot!!!

Thanks Noodler!

I'm enjoying the sunshine here ;)

If I see/hear of anyone streaming I'll post here .

Have fun, kidz.

>>>Is Saturday Night @ The Fillmore a Secret Show for Über-innies that we are not invited to?

My guess is a corporate Christmas party. Probably some AI company with start up money to burn.

Thanks for the link and the notes, Noodler. (Sorry you're not feeling well.)

Thanks Judit, i'm actually feeling fine, if I ignore the radioactive ickiness from the nostrils (ooh, yucky)

Thank you Druba for the setlist.

Pride of Cucamonga is one of my favorites.

And of course Any time Phil playing Dark Star?

Yes, lucky we are.......

Nice looking setlist, and what I heard of the first set sounded real good. I'm psyched for Sunday.

Lineup?

Amber was right...

IMG_2095.jpeg

Yep!

Loved the setlist. It took them awhile to optimize the audio mix... everyone's always told me to stand under the disco ball but I liked the sound at the back of the floor the best.

Way to represent, Zoners!  Fun to see everyone.

killer set list

Sugar Mag >dance-a-thon

never miss a sunday show

hope to make it back...

The Philmore is da place.  Fun to see zoner friends.  The music is still where it is and last night the music was certainly there.  Sorry to see Phil having to sit down in second set.  Recuperation today.  See you all Sun.  Enjoy your Sat.

Mts & UBC had some great psychedelic moments

And the My Favorite Things with the distinct eleven jam was pretty psychedelic too.

That was my favorite PLF show I have seen since "Before Times"

A lot of 12/15/23, Deadheadland video. I'm no audiophile, but the sound seems squashed or something to me

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCJZrMcDhnI1uYC13oopu65qVVGVpr3Et

My Favorite Things and elevenish jam was a highlight, for certain.

A couple questions about the setlist pic for folks who were at the show last night. "Dark Star 1". Did they only play the first verse? And did they play New Potato Caboose?

> A couple questions about the setlist pic for folks who were at the show last night. "Dark Star 1". Did they only play the first verse? And did they play New Potato Caboose?

Uh... wasn't at the shoe... BUT...
Yes, last night only the first verse was performed. Unless I spaced & missed V2.

With less then no knowledge I would hazard a guess that V2 will show up tomorrow night.

Also no New Potato Caboose. That may also show up tomorrow night. Maybe.

Never miss a Sunday shoe.

Probably intending to do Dark Star verse two tonight.

Looks like Caboose was dropped like a hot Potato. It would have been the rare show with all three Petersen/Lesh songs recorded by the band. Has any P&F show had all three?

I like how you think, Dave, and that's what I'm hoping for tonight.

That's the question:

Has there ever been a P&F show with all three Petersen tunes: Chain, Pride, AND Caboose?

I don't believe these has been. Would love to know otherwise.

If not, then 12/15 would have been a real coup in that regard, but it didn't happen without Caboose.

Hamstrung Blues, yes... Been a fan of that sole 3/27/86 version since it was played.

But as I said, the other three were songs that were **actually recorded** by the GD. Caboose, Pride and Chain.

P&F has done all three at various times (never Hamstrung, of course).

My question is: Has any Phil show had all three Petersen tunes that the band recorded: Caboose, Pride and Chain in the same show?

Hoping 4 a stream of tonight's shoe.
So far not seeing one, but it's early

Set 1

The Wheel (chorus) >

Viola
Lazy River Road

Me and My Uncle

Stream sounds good mix wise, but for fuck's sake please don't tell me they played Lazy River as a stand-alone song, then MAMU as a stand-alone song, then Jack-a-Roe as a stand-alone song. I mean, they could have at least segued MAMU and Jackaroe together as a cowboy medley, because they're both the exact same tempo cowboy groove, so why the dead thud stop between them? And another dead thud stop after Jack. Weak sauce, man.

Also, Adam Mac has got to be the most underwhelming and inconsequential keyboardist I've ever heard with Phil. Lots of wankery, little substance.

Set 1:

The Wheel (chorus) >
Here Comes Sunshine >
Viola
Lazy River Road

Me and My Uncle
Jack-A-Roe

Bird Song

Don't hold back Pride of Cupertino.

Tell is how U really feel.

Ok, I can do that.

Tonight feels like a snoozefest compared to last night. Just saying. Yes it's Phil and Phil is always awesome, I get it...

But I guess if Crosby couldn't do it, there are other keyboardists who bring more. I'm just getting nothing from Dougall. Sorry.

Stanley is also a nonfactor here, really. Some noodling on top of things here and there, but he also could just as well not be there. This show is mostly being carried by Molo and Stu with Phil. That's where we're getting the actual musical content.

No worries Murray

I mean Pride!

All good on the Hood!

All cool in the car pool!

(Music evaluation is a subjective process.)

That's why I love Viva!

PS: Sure... Personally  I'd rather Medeski on keys.
But... That's just MHO.

I guess with Phil I have some fairly high standards based on the GOOD shit that I've loved over the years. But yes, I still love Phil, and opinions are like you-know-what and all that.

This is the Stu and Molo show, with Phil. Still don't get the full thud stop between MAMU and Roe, though. Inexplicable weak sauce, fellas. Still love ya Phil, but come on brother.

Also hoping 2 hear more from Stanley in set 2.
Pretty sure he is there.

YMMV

Yes, I know Stanley is physically present on the stage. Just hoping to hear more actual playing from him. He's been a nonfactor so far tonight, but not as underwhelming as Dougall, to be fair. Dougall, it's just, "why?" Sorry.

I love what Stanley and Dougal are doing, precisely because it's now what the others do...   then again, I live for diversity!

"Poor plodding people, who other than name, try to remain exactly the same"

and that's not Phils thing, LOL

carry on zoners

Couldn't make it to the show tonight, gave my ticket to a friend.

Listening to the stream again tonight I feel strongly that any problem with this band isn't with the keyboard player or whether the songs are connected or stand-alone, it's once again the completely wrong addition of Stanley Jordan.

Like Friday night I'm not in the room, where you really know what's up, but I've seen Jordan with Phil many times and as always to my ear he's a 5th wheel, having no idea where to fit in or where to go, meandering/bumbling around the edges or staggering with his "chops" into a corner and completely blowing the flow, creating a hesitancy in the band while they're all looking at each other deciding who takes what where. As good as he is, he simply doesn't "know" the music.

IMO these shows would have been much better without Jordan, or if Phil really wanted a 3rd guitarist then a few locals (Lebo, Scott Law, Mark Karan...... oh, god forbid DISHWASHERS) who are intimate with both the music and the other players, would have worked much better.

Anyway, all that whining aside, more than a little has sounded good and I'm sure most folks who are actually in the room are having a fine time.

As well they should be.

Long live Phil Lesh!

LONG LIVE THE GRATEFUL DEAD!!!

BTW, I'm sad not to be there.

Set 2

Cosmic Charlie

Guessing Stanley will play either Somewhere Over the Rainbow or Stairway.

Every time I've seen Stanley play with Phil it just knocks my socks off!

YMMV. All good. 2 each his or her own.
so how's that 4 magnanimity ?

Jack Straw

Plus Stanley offers fashion choices that really enhance the moment

>>>I've seen Jordan with Phil many times and as always to my ear he's a 5th wheel, having no idea where to fit in or where to go<<<

>>>Every time I've seen Stanley play with Phil it just knocks my socks off<<<

Isn't Grateful Dead music just the absolute best???

Fuck yeah.

Set 2

Cosmic Charlie

Dark Star

What stream are people listening to?  The BusterDog?  I'd pay for an official stream with quality, but I can't listen to BusterDog.  No hard feelings, but the quality isn't there. Was an official stream available and I just missed it?  Thanks.

Nice Dark Star 2, but Dougall is just wankery, nothing more. Just, wow. I want his agent.

This is Stu and Molo with Phil, that's who's doing the work up there.

Minor point. Stanley first played with Phil on 11/11/11 at Roseland Ballroom in NYC.
12 years later he might just know the music. At least a little.
Just sayin...

2 each his or her own

Oh wait I said that already

ok never mind then.

Sounds pretty good from here (and better than the bit of Friday's show I've heard).

Stanley's pretty buried in the mix, even on a pair of decent 'phones. His guitar is coming across like the upper range of a harp a lot of the time

Molo slayin'.

Crazy Fingers, sung by The Price We Pay...

And a keyboard wankery solo as a bonus. Oy vey.

Revolution is not even on the list of my  mop top favs. Still considering what’s going on these days

it speaks 2 little old (ancient) me.

U know it’s gonna B alright

Uh I hope so

Stanley now playing Somewhere over the rainbow. Watched that movie last night.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops oh way above the chimney tops.

>>>Stanley now playing Somewhere over the rainbow<<<

One of the reasons I gave up my ticket, it was written in stone...... yawn.

Ha ha. U R alright Lance.
Funny even.
Do U like the wheel any?

Like it's Mo' of a Dead tune

or at least a Jerry tune

Which the boys even played sometimes , even

Wheel

I turned off the stream when Somewhere Over the Rainbow started, I don't like it when anyone does it, and not Stanley. I used to hope he'd be creative with it, but... it sounds the same every time, doesn't make me want to listen to it again.

Came back during the wheel.

Are you guys hearing that everything in the second set has been a little slow? Could be just the way it sounds to me.

I do love Phil.

>>>Do U like the wheel any<<<

I love The Wheel.

I'm just grumpy and looking for nits to pick.

Tonight is almost exactly 35 years since I first walked into that hallowed venue.

Ultimately, I just wish I was there.

LLTGD!!!

My steam cut off during the donor rap.

Perhaps I'll find out,

Perhaps.

Holiday season can B rough.  Difficult even.

Better to be here than nowhere.

Long live The Phil Zone/Viva la Zone!!!

And for sure......

LONG LIVE PHIL LESH!!!!!

Let me try again. No promises about it being correct.

None of our gripes here about any of this are "the end of the world," and it's great that Phil is playing etc. But, wow. Talk about slogging through a first set. If I was in San Fran for either of these shows and I only went last night and not Friday, I would be PISSED that I didn't see the Friday show instead of this snoozefest.

Friday better than Sunday. Personally I enjoyed Stanley's playing and thought he was more on point than ever with this material. The first set last night did kinda plod. And If I am going to be picky I think Phil can leave MAMU and LRR to the dustbin of history, but I had a good time. Phil is getting old and frail but even on a stool he can drop some nice bombs!

Viva la Phil lesh!

Last night had it's moments, and more than just a few, but I thought it was lacking in flow at times. Time for a re-listen to see how my memory compares to the tape.

https://archive.org/details/paf2023-12-17

Not sure what whining all about.  Solid Phil show.  I liked the MAMU and Jack A Roe.  The 2nd set was phantastic starting off Cosmic Charlie, wowie.  If you don't enjoy what Phil is doing, do not go and complain.  Just enjoy the moment while we can.

Just picky deadheads.

show could of used a first set Bertha and a second set Lovelite...

"Sorry to see Phil having to sit down in second set."

I was concerned on Friday seeing Phil call for the stool to sit down before the end of the 2nd set. Because that's the first time I have ever seen him do that in all these decades. So often I have marveled at him standing there playing for so many hours while I have found it difficult sometimes to stand in the crowd through the whole show, and I am a lot younger. It is often an ordeal being part of the audience and I am sure it can be work for the band too. Once it seemed clear that he was just fatigued and nothing else apparently going on, I relaxed about it. The stool on stage from the start on Sunday was an appropriate accouterment and if Phil needs to take a load off at times during a set, more power to him.

All nits aside, a solid band in two solid shows. The two nights were act 1 and act 2 of a program.

We are so lucky still having Phil playing for us. Proud to be part of the energy loop in the room. Me and my buddies all got lifetime here.

> Just picky deadheads.

Guilty as charged.

> Me and my buddies all got lifetime here.

And Amen to that.

It's funny, I seem pickier here than I really am. I'm sorry, I'm not really a Picky deadhead and have no complaints. I think my comments sometimes seem like I'm unhappy about the band. I'm not. I listen to streams through my old computer, or an iPad, or an iPhone, not an actual system, and the last 2 shows seemed really dampened.

Music (art) saves lives, Phil saves lives.

nelson sits, george porter sits. its fine.

love you phil.

> Just picky deadheads

Perhaps the times when everyone is "visited" don't happen quite as often, but I view it all as a gift at this stage of the game.

Having said that, I've become more discriminating as far as how far and for what lineups I'll travel for.

Phil turns 84 in a few months, every performance has always been a blessing, but not like it is now.  Whoever he brings in I think is Great!!!

Many a legend has been ripped apart in the blogospheres (John Scofield for ex), and that's just an immature part about blogs, nicky picky shit tossing, like caged baboons, LOL.

If Phil wants to add new (and interesting to me) flavors to his musical soup, i'm all for it.  As the representative of "improv" amongst the living members (Bobby more about arrangements), I say bring it!  I don't care how perfect or messed up it is...  if Phil wanted something closer to perfection he'd practice to the point of becoming the "Q", which will go down as one of the greatest Dead incarnations of all time IMHO, but even the worse shows since that era are still a blessing.  Do I need to hear Me and my uncle again, not really, but if that's what Phil wants to do, i'll be singing / slinging and dancing to it, LOL.   Can't have a Terrapin, Shakedown, or Help on the Way every single show, in fact, I kind of like the fact he omitted those (overplayed?) classics this run.  If anything, I simply wish there were more shows, and of course, official streams to document the occasion!

Peace out everyone, and long live Phil Lesh (in good health might I add!!!)

Blessings Every Single Way For PHIL.heart

Ok, I'll say it: I'm a damn picky Deadhead and damn proud of it. When Phil or Bob or Mickey do something these days that works for me, I know it and I say it. When I think it's wack, I'll say it's wack. I saw the boys with Jerry for too many years and collected classic shows on tape for too many years. I don't expect to see anything from the Survivors that approaches the level of Europe 72, or any number of the best Fillmore East shows, or for that matter Hampton 89 or even Cal Expo 93 in the final years. For solo Phil, I love lots of Q shows and some other lineups. Saw a few really great shows at TXR. But I'm not the guy who says it's all good no matter what, I'm sorry. I guess I'm harder to impress than some other folks. Being raised on the Live Dead Dark Star will do that to you. But it's a free country.

Last night was wack, IMO. Friday was definitely better.

and the poster was the same both nites

wtf

Blessings Every Single Way For PHIL.

Amen.

What I find amazing is that all these years in we would all do better picking the winning Power Ball numbers than predicting the two night set list.

I'm pretty biased as I had a very joyous time just being in that room listening and seeing Phil.

Musically I was a little disappointed that Phil chose this lineup. Adam Mc Dougal is a very swooshy keyboard player and his unrelenting fills combined with whatever Stanley Jordan does just obscured the "Jerry" leads I came to hear.  To much musical "color" in this band -- it made it more "symphonic jamband" music than dance band music. It worked in the crescendo tunes, but not for the rest. A shame really, as the crowd around me was ready for a Sunday night throwdown. Gimme a chair for this style of Phil and Friends.

Phil, Molo, and Stu were certainly the more interesting players to me. Grahame has definitely assumed the roll of bandleader. Phil seems to have relinquished that role. But after seeing him with the Family band, I'm still not that enthralled with his Bobby impersonations.

And I found the encore "It's All Over Now" kinda depressing. As Phil is looking quite frail (and even acts a little loopy).

I sure don't want it to be over now.

Parking went smoothly at Japan Center and had time for some Korean food. We arrived at 7 expecting a line but waltzed right in.

Socially I had a blast. I got to meet Mike E -- a fine gentleman in 3D. And I met about 30 tall guys in Giants hats while searching for Lance.

The craziest was that the first random stranger that I struck up a conversation with actually went to my highschool (graduated 2 years before me) and we had the same weed dealer back in 1974. I mean what are the odds that out of 1200 people I end up talking to someone that grew up in my neighborhood?

When I asked a hometown friend if they ever knew him (I didn't way back when) he said, "Wasn't he the guy that got arrested at Capital Center when he stormed the stage naked?" Funny.

Oh And I liked the poster. too.

^^ forgive the typos. I'm posting from a coffee shop in Menlo Park while my rear wheel bearings are getting replaced down the street from the Guild at Stress Free Auto Repair (they lie -- their quote only increased my stress). I've actually never ever sat in a coffee shop before with my computer -- boy do I feel old and out of it, as it is apparently the norm here. Very diverse crowd racially and everyone is well groomed and attractive. I can only imagine the amount of start up money that is being solicited around me.

If anyone asks I am a Phil-a-cologist researching the effects of low frequency audio bombardment.

>>>And I met about 30 tall guys in Giants hats while searching for Lance<<<

Sorry about that chief, I didn't make it to the show. By far the most disappointing thing about missing the show was not meeting up with old & new friends. I do appreciate the effort though.

Next time for sure.

(Oh, and......... GO NINERS!!!)

Lance, you said get in line early, so I did... landed me a spot on the much maligned (by me) rail for Friday's show.

"I sure don't want it to be over now."

Just for 2023. A new year will be dawning soon.

Walstib:  Did you notice that if you turn the poster upside down it is for night 2?  The date lines are difficult to read in that psychedelic font.

Alan:  I like your review!

If you're still hanging out in Menlo Park and need really good espresso, find St. Frank's coffee across the tracks from the train station. I'm a big fan of the Menlo Park swimming pool at the park nearby.

You may already know this:  It's fun to take a drive up to Alice's Restaurant on Skyline for breakfast or lunch, then drive south on Skyline to catch Hwy 9 to Santa Cruz through the backroads.  Great spots along Skyline to watch the sunset and fog roll in, too.  If you want hiking trail recommendations in that area, check out the trails on the open space preserves: https://www.openspace.org/where-to-go/visit-a-preserve

In case anyone here has any interest, here is a complete video of Sundays show.

of course I did. They at least could of changed the color!

That font is very similar to old posters from artists like Victor Moscoso.

Alan, it was a real pleasure meeting you. I only wish we had more time to hang out.

Oh, and the National Lampoon documentary I couldn't quite remember the title of is Drunk Stoned Brilliant Dead. It's the story of Doug Kenney really, who I knew little of before I saw the film.

And Dave, thanks for the video link. I went straight to the Jack Straw and it was just as good as I remember it. Some great energy there.

If possible, will someone please post a picture of this upsidedownable poster.

Would love to see that!

New Phil show going on presale tomorrow, by the way.

January 13 at the Warfield.

No word yet on the lineup, LOL

I scaled Zooey's pic way down and it seems to resolve better.

Thanks Mike! Unfortunately I had to roll up my poster to fly home... another benefit of driving down... now it's not even frame-worthy as the card stock they used crackled some of the ink, oh well.

Happy Holidays Y'all,

Glad to be in this thread. Lots of great zoners chiming in here is a good thing to see. Some of them lucky enough to be here and at the recent plf shoes. Exceptionally lucky, imo.

First, A BIG THANKS to PHIL!

The fact alone that he is still playing with us... I mean, come on. Really. Really? Really(?). It is borderline unbelievable in the best possible way. It's the end of 2023!!!!! He reconstructed our community in 2000 with the birth of the Q. There have been ALL TIME shows on either side of the Q project, as well. TXR was a THING. He has done GREAT things for/in/around the The Cap. And a week, or so, ago, PHIL brought the MAGIC to the Fillmore...

LLOLLO

HoHoHo

I have an extra poster for you...

Which nite's poster do you want? haha

Thanks Walstib!  Please save the poster for me, either night!  ;)

Hoping to drive down in January since it's a 3-day weekend.

((((((( ....the birth of the Q )))))))
