Phil & Friends @ Lake Tahoe, July 22

Forums:

Look what just popped up. Looks like big fun.

epic

too bad this thing isn't still out at the shakespeare ampitheater at sand harbor.

Good Festy for Billy Strings as a  friend...

^....except that Billy Strings is playing yet another sold out show in Louisville that day. I do wonder how he may have gotten around the typical regional non-compete clause for the Chicago/Bridgeview fest with Phil by scheduling a (already sold out) gig at the close-by Metro club that is in the city (Chicago, Aug 27).

Holy cannoli this fits perfectly with my availability in July.

I haven't seen LOS in 3 years and miss them terribly, oh yeah, and Phil. ;)

Book lodging first as AirBnbs up there are very expensive.

Paging Andy Tahoe for camping recommendations!

See ya there...

Yowzer! Phil, Salmon and Achilles Wheel! And the Canyoneros,  HHMMMMM...

Hard Rock Hotel / Stateline, where the show is taking place, is pricing out at $450 - 500 per night, ouch.

On the other hand, it is evidently close to the only clothing-optional beach on the lake, LOL.

I know some more reasonably priced places to stay in North Lake Tahoe if anyone wants recommendations.

The closest paid camping is at nevada beach and zephyr cove, about 10 minutes drive. The closest free camping where you aren't gonna get harassed would be going out luther pass around S Upper Truckee rd.

secret cove / chimney beach is not really "close" to south lake, its 30 min drive with no traffic

just fwiw

Face value ticket $89 x 2
+ Good Vibez Fee
+ Live Entertainment Tax
+ Processing Fee
+ Service Fee
= $251.38 for 2 tickets!!!
So, an $89 ticket costs
 $125.69!!!!

^These days that is not very outlandish (unfortunately).

Sadly, that's true.  But I still remember when the BASS ticket fee went from 35 cents to 50 cents...

Marcy and I are in!

"+ Good Vibez Fee"

Somebody with amazing hubris thought that up. To whoever thought that up, two words: fuck you

If a ticket costs $125 bucks and change, just tell us. It's not a good start when you are asking us to "BRING YOUR SMILES AND HAPPY FACES" while dicking us around with add on fees. That's not Good Vibez!

I got a room just down the road on the California side. A lot cheaper than in Stateline, but there is an add-on $35 a day "resort fee."

How is it better to pad a bill with add ons, rather than just posting the full rate upfront? Then you buy, or you don't. I get it, that most everybody does it these days (and especially corporate entities), but I don't understand how that makes for happier customers. I just know, personally, that it makes me feel like the entity I am doing business with is less than honest, and that pisses me off.

Not a good way to make a customer feel when you are selling entertainment.

Honesty in billing on this one would be more like Buzz Kill Fee.

A bit off topic, but I went to the lumber yard the other day. Bought 20 bucks worth of wooden stakes - payed w/ plastic.. After I left I looked at my receipt and noticed they had added on a buck fitty and called it a "CAT fee". Didn't hear no meowing. WTF?

^Are you in OR? Could be a "Corporate Activity Tax" that, yep, gets incrementally passed on to the consumer/end user.

https://www2.deloitte.com/us/en/pages/tax/articles/oregon-enacts-corpora...

taxes are for peasants, not corporations.

...or maybe Credit At Transaction for the plastíc?

Use promo code DISCO to get 10% off

All those fees are charges the bands have no claim to. Screwing us and the bands at the same time.

> they had added on a buck fitty and called it a "CAT fee".

A number of businesses are adding an extra fee because of supply chain problems. Maybe it's something like that?

This show is tempting me, and I don't have any music on my schedule for July yet. It's a festival, so it shouldn't sell out, right?

Promo code works!  Total was ~ $114, such a deal, LOL.

can someone please tell me which shows john molo is playing?

^^^ Thanks...Didn't realize that Molo is with Monday's DNB lineup, sad I can't go.

I had CT PL& F on list until airfares started to rise...

Bridgeview Illinois at end of August? Will research that one...

thanks mike, wonder who is on the kit for shows like Maine and the orchard show?

and molo is no longer in the dnb llollo, that was clear from the ukiah shows. list isn't totally accurate.

is the cap lineups posted somewhere?

Looks like the same lineup for Maine and the orchard show: Stu Allen, Grahame Lesh, Jason Crosby, Amy Helm, Cody Dickinson. I don't think we've seen anything about Cap lineups yet.

CAP lineups have not been announced yet, Turtle

duh, i got my cody/luther mixed up...sorry i'm dumb.

am bored, on the mend from the 'vid.

my wv buddy wants to see a show or 2...

also by going to moonalice website, one could deduce molo may be at this bluegrass thingy.

also i like cody...

> my wv buddy

Bryen?

no, bryen's friend.

Has there been an announcement about the lineup for this one yet? I'm still on the fence about making the trip.

No announcement so far suggests a Stu/Grahame band is likely

Stu is playing with Eaton, Lane and others the same weekend of the Stateline show so it's not Stu. We had plans to be in Tahoe next weekend anyway so we're going. I suspect the band willbe made up other players in the bill.

I haven't heard anything-

but we are going for my early birthday!

booked a room on hotel.com - was $ -but I had rewards, so it was $71- says 15 minute walk to Hard Rock

we didn't see the promo code prior, bummer- fees suck

will be fun to party with Zoners in Tahoe! Phish was canceled due to fires, so haven't spent much time up there - looks to be gorgeous weather

Has anyone eaten at Trokay in Truckee?! Our friends own the place - going for first time on Sunday

I saw somewhere a reference to the "Family Band" in some of the announcements for the show, but I can't remember where.  So my guess is it's the dishwashers, maybe with Stu, but no 'special' friends like Sco or Helm or any Dickinsons.

I say go to the show anyway, Mike.  Hard to beat a beautiful summer day at Tahoe, and remember there are other great acts on the bill!  Phil won't be touring forever and this should be a fine time in the great outdoors!

Stu is playing with Axial Tilt next weekend in Rohnert Park is it?

last night -Grahame, Peck and Barry Sless played 10 minutes from our house - $15

didn't make it after long work day, but nice to have some local shows!

I miss seeing Phil and free bar shows every week at TXR!!!!

TGIF all!!!

Uncommon Kitchen in Tahoe City!!

Get the sushi burrito

Thank me later...

C~O~O~L.

Stu is playing with Eaton and Co on 7/23, not 7/22. I imagine he could easily play with Phil on 7/22. And even if he had to ditch Eaton if the Phil gig was on 7/23, I’m sure he would do so in a Terrapin minute.

It's going to be fun.

Lesh has Covid

Get better Phil...

Man, I hope Phil doesn't cancel... if he got it yesterday - he could quarantine for 5 days and hopefully still play.

Uncommon Kitchen looks yummy!

Noooooooo!

WALSTIB I hope you're joking- what's your source?  What do you know?

^^^ and while SCI made the announcement this morn, that doesn't mean today is Phil's day 1 of having COVID.

Fingers crossed for a positive outcome.

Or a negative outcome, rather.

“Think positive, test negative.” — Jorma

Or, as Oteill has been saying in jest, "Stay Negative!"

Agree with Llollo:  Fingers crossed.

ro, the show with barry and Elliott peck was darn good

that lady has ne hell of a voice....

^^^ agree!  i have grown fond of Elliott's voice too. Impressive talent.

Zooey sent me the announcement from SCI this morning

I don't know how to post it- I'll ask her

sorry I missed the show - she is very talented

Here is another copy of the announcement from SCI:

A great looking one day festival. I would so be there if I did not need to be in LA the next night for Craig Marshall's memorial.

More Covid in the Moonalice Tribe, cancelled the next two shows this week. Molo?

Heading up now!

See you kids there!

Have fun all that make it!! Any word of a stream? We were hoping to cruise up today but were dealing with a sick dog...

Have fun freaks. Wish I could've made this one, but the stars just didn't align for me.

LLOLLO shared a couple of pics of the scene.

Great shots.

I've had so many good times there, right on the other side of that stage, where the Harvey's stage is. They're basically back-to-back.

A great place for a party.

Whoop it up folks!

Great to see Andy, LOLLO, Roshambo and a host of others at the show! Phil was loud and on point while the whole band was tightand smoked!

Who's got the heady setlist?

Yeah what'd they play man?

Phans want to know

Mason's Children, Jack Straw, Sitting on top of the World, Let it Grow, Black Peter>New Speedway Boogie>China Cat Sunflower>The Eleven> Lovelight E: Box of Rain

That looks tasty.  Thanks Woz!

It sure was! These guys have played together a lot snd it shows!

Thanks, Woz. Looks like a real high-energy show.

What a great time!

gorgeous weather, amazing venue, easy to walk back to car and bring in drinks, axe throwing, cleanest porta pots I've ever seen- lol

tipped the guy keeping them spotless :)

Phil was great!

leftover and groove session jammed out

Loved Dirt Wire!

Phish needs to play there instead of Harvey's - the sound system was amazing!

20 minute walk to hotel after - good vibes!

Some more pics to share. From Roshambo this time.

Yes, last night was a special one.  Phil was surprisingly spry for just getting over COVID, but the band was just 'OK', IMHO. Stu was great, Grahame stole some leads but the interplay between the two was great most of the time. Elliot Peck was a great addition on vocals. Molo's a monster, and Molitz was fantastic, if a little rusty in the material.  The setlist lacked any deep 'bangers' like Dark Star or Unbroken Chain, but it was a solid set of tunes played well. Things really picked up from Speedway on. The 'Box' encore was touching and Phil sang it well, but it went off the rails at some point and the ending was a bit of an abortion, so to speak... But points for trying. It's always an honor to see Phil and the vibe and weather and scene was absolutely perfect. My kid (11) rode the rail the whole show and got his mind blown. I hung out back a bit and was able to join him for 'Box' which was a really special moment. The crowd was Tahoe cool and down to party. No chatters, boozers, fights, or drama, from what I could see. It was a crowd of pros.

The Festival itself was very well run, every set was on time, to the minute.  It was a little undersold, though, which makes sense because this festival only popped up a month ago.  That gave everybody space to groove, there wasn't a bad seat in the house, and it was not hard to get up front. Before Phil the front of house was only pleasantly populated, and it didn't get too much worse for Phil either.

The rest of the Festie was wonderful as well, it was a bright hot day but Dead Winter Carpenters, Dirtwire, and Leftover Salmon just killed it (Lil' Smokies, while one of the only true 'bluegrass' acts on the bill, was good but the crowd was hungry for weirder shit and so it was a little bit of a mismatch. Maybe next year change the name of the Festival...).  Short lines for food and beer, free water stations, some sod laid down on the parking lot/venue, and absolutely no hassles from Security. And, as mentioned, clean portos and plenty of them.

I hope they continue the festival, although without our Fearless Leader they'll have to bring in one of the popular "bluegrass" bands like Billy Strings or Greensky, maybe, but it could become a good time to freak in Tahoe in the summer.

All in all, it was really something to get a chill, local show (for me), seeing Phil on his victory lap play to an adoring and well-behaved crowd. So happy this came together and that I get to share this scene with the next generation. There was no audio recording allowed, but I can hope against hope that a tape pops up. It's nice in the mountains!
