Phil & Friends -- Philloween at The Cap

Forums:

Not looking good as Trey is playing Garcia's at the Cap Halloween 8pm.  Come on Phil:  We want to do P H I L O W E E N at the CAP!!!

I wouldn't hold my breath

Trey is playing Garcia's? Looks like it's the Scott Metzger trio LaMP with two guys from TAB: https://www.thecapitoltheatre.com/garcias-at-the-capitol-theatre/events/.... Rumors Trey is going to sit in?

Cap is booked late October.  If Phil was going to play, tickets would have gone on sale months ago.

I gave up on the idea of Halloween shows months ago......

At Garcia's at the Cap 10/31/2023 8pm:  LaMP

LaMP is the project featuring Trey Anastasio Band/Soule Monde band mates, keyboardist Ray Paczkowski and drummer Russ Lawton, and Joe Russo’s Almost Dead guitarist Scott Metzger. In case it’s not obvious, the band takes its name from the first letters of each members’ surname. The trio debuted at a show in December 2018 at Nectar’s in Burlington, Vermont. They then reconvened last summer and held recording sessions with Roger Stauss at Sugarhouse Soundworks in Burlington.

"With Russ and Ray being so much of a team as they are, they’ve done who knows how many gigs together? It’s been a good challenge to join them to try and add something to their Vulcan mind-meld level of music-making while adding something to the foundation they’ve built. I’m in Brooklyn, and Russ and Ray are up in Vermont. We wrote everything via the internet. We figured out telecommuting and working from home before it was fashionable [laughs]. We’d usually start with Russ sending around a drumbeat he was working on, then Ray and I would put down ideas and we’d send them back and forth, editing everything as we went along. When we finally found some time to record, I drove up to Vermont, we took a day to flush everything out and rehearse, then spent two days recording." Scott Metzger Jambase

scared me Andy, Damn I wanna go back to that Itailian resto on the Island! give me the heads up when that deal goes down, Sometimes you can just feel it... What The Rock Palace Has booked Nobody for Halloweenie! hmmm tic toc tic toc

I saw LaMP a couple times this year at Nectar's.
I think they are pretty great, all instrumental.

I asked Metzger why they didn't go with LiMP or LuMP.
He lol'd and said LiMP was an obvious no, but LuMP kinda had some punk cred to it.

"Philloween at The Cap" was sure fun for me last year. I was real glad to attend. It is disappointing when a "tradition" however recent does not happen as expected. Phil looks to be in strong voice and good shape for a dude his age who has been through all he has been through. I respect that he continues to "follow his wyrd" and perform, or not, at his discretion. Being mostly, or entirely, retired to enjoy life with his wife and family is completely reasonable and understandable. It seems that Phil has genuine affection and love for his phans, but he owes us nothing more than what he has already abundantly delivered. God bless you, Phil, and god bless us everyone. Long may we run!

rumor has it .. The Cap is still libre Oct 30th, and 31st and theres a good cover band playin at garcias

Dates still open and NO announcements.  Come on Phil, let's all do PHILOWEEN at the Cap.

Ain't happening.  The old man is tired.

I suspect Phil is done traveling and will only make occasional local appearances.

Phil does own a place in NY, so he can comfortably do Cap shows...    I think he'd like to spend Halloween with his grandkids, who are likely old enough to go trick or treating, something Phil may have not been able to do with Halloween being a sacred gig like NYE.  Living in the real world doing real things he's missed as a player.  Just my 2 cents

I think the NY place is long gone.  Plus the sale of TXR.  He's hoarding cash now.

I suspect Phil is done traveling and will only make occasional local appearances.<<<

You also said Dylan was done touring a few years ago.

whatever Phil does is AOK with me

still would be sweet for him to come east for *something*

You also said Dylan was done touring a few years ago.

I said that because Dylan said at the time he sold his Catalog was quoted as saying "I am done with music."

I have more direct knowledge about Phil.

I do agree with Phil being done Woz. Just seems like time, given his recent appearances.

One final big whoop whoop at the Bill Graham Civic would be nice. Maybe a couple bands as openers and then a long Phil set (with real musicians) and requisite Bombs to close things out. A long shot but it's nice to dream.

> Dylan said at the time he sold his Catalog was quoted as saying "I am done with music."

When did we start taking Dylan at his word?

I do have to say, it’s curious that those dates are still open at the Cap. Oct 29, 30, 31.

I mean, isn’t that interesting?

If it’s not Phil, then something else is certainly in the works for Halloween at the Cap that hasn’t been announced yet.

That " Phil" chant from Portland Maine 82' chiming in bout now

I was there/  Shared a joint I believe.  Hahaha.  'P H I L'

Ahhhh, that was right before I went Down

PHIIIIL. PHIIILL,PHIIIIL

PHIIIIL. PHIIILL,PHIIIIL love the 'Phil, Phil, Phil, Phil' chant from the audience as the spanish jam is going into the other one

I mean, isn’t that interesting, still no Cap dates yet on Oct 29, 30, 31?

Midnight North has a gig in Venice, CA on 11/1. It wouldn't be impossible to play the Cap on Halloween and then do a show in CA the next night, but that doesn't seem ideal to say the least.

midnight north,, um in Cali phil could replace his son, ... where is Warren, molo,Rob barraco, Jimmy ?er um guess panic always plays Halloween ?

Tommy, I can't remember the last time Phil did a show and Grahame wasn't on stage with him. Probably the last time the Q played together, and that's been a few years at least.

>> last time Phil did a show and Grahame wasn't on stage with him

PLF last summer ('22) in Bridgeport, Connecticut: https://archive.org/details/paf2022-07-01.dpa4011.flac16

Although that date was the only one in a leg of shows where Graham was, indeed, in the lineup.

Wasn’t Grahame absent from the lineup in Asheville when Phil last played Warren’s Christmas Jam? I’m pretty sure there was no Grahame on that. It was noted and discussed.

That said, the rest of Midnight North could certainly be setting up for 11/1 while Grahame himself flies in for the show that day.

Either way... Isn’t that interesting, still no Cap shows on Oct 29, 30, 31? Still as of today on Oct 2, no listed shows at the Cap on those three dates.

I mean, isn’t that a little odd?

And yes, Phil indeed played Asheville last December 10, with Warren, Molo, Barraco, and with Scofield being the only one not from the classic Q. Grahame was nowhere in sight for that.

But Grahame could certainly hop a plane to CA on 11/1.

Hiya Hiya Kids,

just dropping in to stir the cauldron a bit..

Name 3 bands that are NOT playing Halloween shows this year..

1. Gov"t Mule

2. Dark Star Orchestra

3. Widespread Panic

Last Q Cap shows were 2021

tick toc

tick toc

tick toc

The Q should just recruit Dave Dreiwitz and call the band Almost Phil & Friends.

It's time.

I mean, 10/29-30-31 still open dates at the Cap.

Isn’t that interesting?

Monsters do lead such interesting lives...

Shappy is too much of a money grabber to let the advance sales for a Q show go untaken.

I guess, maybe.

But it’s interesting, those three dates still open.

TICK TOC TICK TOC TICK TOC.....

You're going to be tick toc'ing forever....

I always thought of Tommy as more of the Snapchat type.

Ha! Apparently not!

some say that I'm a dreamer,...but I'm not the only 1 , er um whats snapchat?

All joking aside... the Cap still has nothing listed for Oct 29 30 31.

That’s interesting. Just saying.

I mean, if we get to Oct 22 the week before and still nothing on those dates, then okay maybe they tried holding them and it fell through. But anything can happen in the next two weeks. I would keep an eye out. Sing it with me in your best Dylan voice: “Any day now, any day now, dates shall be released.”

That’s interesting. Just saying.

No it isn't.

No way are they going to announce Phil on those dates at this point...

If they do, I'll send Pride $20 so he can buy a beer...

After the last  East Coast Mini tour, Phil Looked very tired, I doubt we will see him again on the East Coast...  Sorry..

A good idea is to just rent out the Cap for the 31st and have a Halloween party, cranking an assortment of the phinest PL&F soundboards of the past 20+ years.

Somebody step up and run point.

Ok. I guess Pete Shapiro just felt like giving the Cap staff a few nights off before and during Halloween.

Right, got it.

Regardless of the reason, Phil ain't playing the Cap on Halloween.

good thing , I'd have a hard time explaining to my Boss why I'll need a little week off round the end of October, ohh No I wont, just like I said to my 95 year old PLF super Veteran..MA' if Phil Plays the Cap at Halloween, I'll fly in from Lyon to see you! hmmm still thinking Tic Tock Tic Tock, Ohhh and That Italian Restaurant on the Island ... With a few zoners...nahh I aint missin that lol, please send presale code

Now you have extra vacation days to use.

Hey Tom: Still have not canceled flights to see neph but looking more doubtful.  More like no Long Island Italian Restaurant this Philoween.  Boo hiss!  Not a total loss though:  Billy and the Kids at Mt Winery, Saratoga, CA the 31st.  Maybe start of new tradition or something.  Was looking forward to hanging out with you.  There's always the Birthday shows.  Keeping fingers crossed for that too. Hi to all. Keep enjoying France for the rest of us, OK.

I know Right Andy hope to see you someday soon , That stateline gig looked purdy sweet ..seein BMFSin Paris next month so stoaked

I would maybe wait another week or so before canceling anything.

Those three dates are still open.

And by the way, it is correct what was said earlier: Mule and Panic and DSO are all not playing on those three dates. Neither is Grahame.

I would give it a little more time.

And... even Moonalice is not playing any of those three dates.

So, let’s review: the Cap is still open on Oct 29-30-31.

ALL members of the PLQ are open on those three dates. As is Grahame.

I mean, that’s interesting. To me, anyway.

Until we see something else booked at the Cap on any of those three dates, I say Philoween cannot be definitively ruled out. Period.

There will be no Phil shows at the Cap this year.  Period.

How do you know that? Did Phil tell you that?

We’ll see.

I love your enthusiasm pride.  Me too hoping.  Really wish our man Phil would just finally say hay or nay.  Come on Phil:  Many fans have travel plans you do understand.

I mean, if someone here has heard directly from Phil or Grahame, or Shapiro, or any of the PLQ players who are ALL free on those days, that it’s not happening, then say so.

Otherwise, we’ll see, because you don’t know. You’re just assuming.

the sad news received from the box office today booo hoo" Phil's not making it here for Halloween this year, but we are hoping to bring him back as soon as possible!"

So I guess there's still a chance if the words weren't spoken by Phil himself

If the Cap told you that directly, okay. It’s not something that could be assumed with no information when the dates are still open. And they still are open. They must have been holding the dates for Phil and they were finally told no. Well, the Cap staff has Halloween off for a change. They can take their kids out trick or treating instead of going to work.

Something was held in limbo, unless Shapiro decided he just wanted to be closed on Halloween. And I guess Haynes, Herring, Barraco and Molo all wanted Halloween off this year, because not one of them has a gig booked on 10/29-30-31.

So with all those above factors, excuse me if I found it odd and wasn’t quick to believe any hearsay about it.

Hey Tom: Thanks for the "word of mouth" news that Philoween 2023 at Cap not happening.  Time to change flight reservations to March 2024.  Have a blast in Paris for Billy, know you will.  Party hardy for the rest of us.  Now I'm going to Billy & The Kids Mt. Winery, Saratoga CA 10-31-2023.

Sure glad I got to go last year. It was a lot of fun! My first and so far only East Coast show and at the Cap.

Thinking about great Halloween shows from back in the day.

My first "official" concert was on Halloween 1976 ~ The Tubes @ Concord Pavilion. Yes, I saw Vince before I saw the Grateful Dead.

Halloween 1980 you can watch the GD @ Radio City on the "Dead Set" video. That night I went to the Oakland Auditorium and saw The Police. There was a costume contest and strong drugs.

Halloween 1983 Grateful Dead at the Marin Civic

Halloween 1984 Grateful Dead at Berkeley Community Theater

Halloween 1986? Jerry Garcia Band and Kingfish at Henry J. Kaiser, Oakland

Halloween 1991 Grateful Dead, Oakland Coliseum Arena, Bill Graham's death loomed large.

Halloween 1992 Jerry's last comeback show with Vince and the Affordables opening, also a costume contest with Ken Kesey as MC, Oakland Coliseum Arena

Those are the ones off the top of my head.

I was at these and it was big fun:

> Halloween 1983 Grateful Dead at the Marin Civic

> Halloween 1984 Grateful Dead at Berkeley Community Theater

Anyone remember the Zappa Halloween shows in NYC? My first was 10/30/77, what a great band.

They were a lot of fun, Frank loved NYC.

Lets not forget 10/31/79 at Nassau and the after show in Amityville....

Saw Halloween 91 with GD

93 with JGB

97 with Ratdog

2012 with Springsteen

think that's all the Halloween shows I've ever attended
