Phil's playing in a cemetery?

Glad I'll get to see Phil in Portland... unfortunately it's at the Roseland. Not our favorite venue by a long shot.

4/26 Joy Theater, NOLA Jazzfest same night as JRAD late show at Mardis Gras World - which is a larger venue. Ouch.

But wouldn't the JRAD late show begin at around 2AM?

JRAD will definitely pull a larger crowd.

The Wolf Brothers will be in NOLA. that weekend too.  Further reunion?

If I had to, I would pick JRAD over Phil and/or Bob, but they don't start until 11pm or so, so I don't think they'll be any issues. Hope they compare setlists beforehand, though.

i'd maaaybe go for $25.

$70++, not so much.

I just paid $85 for Iron Maiden tickets, and feel pretty good about it after seeing the ripoff prices for TFB..

>>>JRAD will definitely pull a larger crowd.

Reminds me of that Simpsons Vegas episode:"Tonight: The Satin Knights-A Tribute to The Moody Blues.....Opening Act: The Moody Blues"

$65 for the Roseland? If RMFJ was out I'd be in. I really want to see Phil, but $65 for RMFJ at the Rose, with its sketchy PA and near strip-search entry?

Pass.

JRAD starts at 11 on 4/26, it would be cutting it close. i probably would not risk missing the first song at a jrad set for a whole phil show these days...even if it didnt overlap at all, it seems like such a waste to spend 2 nights you could have spent checking out local jazz and funk sets on phil and the kids.

their highest priced ticket at the joy is well over 2x what jrad is charging...remember when TXR shows were $150 to cover the costs of pulling big name guys into a small room? now phil is charging around $70-$120 for the kiddos in large theaters?

there are going to be so many crazy late night jazz/jam sets, tons of amazing local music, plus jazzfest...i dont see the family band fitting into that. it would be like taking a break from a crazy tasting menu full of luxurious ingredients and unexpected flavors to eat a hamburger. hamburgers are good, but i wouldnt want one in the middle of one of the most varied and interesting weekends of music all year. on the other hand tho, speaking literally, id be surprised if i made it out of a week of late night music in nola without eating a single hamburger. it will be 3am at the dirtiest possible place, its going to feel like having sex with an ugly hooker, and im probably going to enjoy it quite a bit.

I will probably end up biting the bullet and getting tix for at least one night at the Roseland.  Not my favorite venue either, but I will put up with that and a 25 minute bus ride to see Phil.

Thanks for the links

I rarely get the chance to see Phil, I will prob end up going...

>>>If RMFJ was out I'd be in.

If I don't go?...he's why

if i had to name one person as the reason why i dont go, it would def be joe russo

I want a hamburger now.

hamburgers are pretty good

Good for Phil for getting back to New Orleans.

What's up with Oteil and Mayer in early May?

What does sex with an ugly hooker  feel like?

And how much does it cost compared to the TFB

Maybe sex with a greasy hamburger sounds better

What's the inflation index  two or three bands at Winterland  was always three dollars

savage pricing

Portland Ken - 25 min bus ride? We'll pick you up and deliver you there in 7!  Keep me informed as to which night you'll attend. I vote for night 1!

How much will the Stones set cost and which will be better?

Fruit Loops have fiber in them.

I bet Phil wears a big hat like Don Was {was/is}

He's fashion trendy.

I have a few problems with this..

first of all, February is not a “spring tour”

second, family band are barely good enough to be called a bar band. $65 fucking dollars?!?! PASS.

third, why in the hell the roseland? Wonder or crystal would either be better choices.

You people are forgetting the guitar magic of MFRJ, Grahame and now AK Valet. Three guitars!

Would you be happy if Fam Band poached T-Ham from JRAD?

More teases please!

Pre-sale for the Roseland on Phil's website is already sold out.

Got to be ready to roll on Friday at 10:00 sharp.

Yeah, that pre-sale went fastl One buddy got a Friday night, but missed on Saturday and another friend got shut out. I missed the pre-sale details and didn't try. So Friday it is.

Ironically, DSO plays the Roseland Friday and Saturday the following weekend.

More like coincidence than irony.

I know it is a coincidence. Same thing happened last year. The reason I said “ironic” is because you go almost a year without any serious dead music in Portland (not counting JRAD and Dead Co in Eugene), then you get four shows in 8 days in February.

Like Joel Selvin said in his FTW book, Phil's trying to cripple DSO. Must be true.

More like a winter run ....w jazz fest....book his 79th at the cap as well...

These prices are sad. I'd get it if there was some VIP extras to be had, while the most tickets were at a reasonable price. Need that cash to feed that Jones. Same mentality that doomed Jerry. I guess if it still gets you off. Sorta more like laying out for an hour with an older overpriced porn whore.

>>>>>>Same mentality that doomed Jerry.

Are you saying The Family Band is touring to support their drug habits?

>>>>>> Sorta more like laying out for an hour with an older overpriced porn whore.

I don’t even have a guess as to what that analogy means.

More custies to sell rugs to at Dead and. Co anyway.  Amiright?

christian rock bands usually dont do drugs tho

Are you saying The Family Band is touring to support their drug habits?

No, I'm saying what doomed Jerry was that it became more about the money than the music. It's why Jerry hated the GD near the end, and withdrew into drugs once more. It's why Phil rarely hires top musicians anymore, and even when he does, rehearsing the music isn't a cost effective priority. I am sure Phil could deliver a top notch musical tour, if he were willing to cut into the profits to make it happen. It doesn't.

I don’t even have a guess as to what that analogy means.

Why pay more for an older declining provider in their 55+, when you can get someone in their prime for half the price or less?

Phil hasn't been to Seattle since the last Further show at Marymoor.  He was on retainer with Shappy so long that he forgot about us.  It's good to see that Phil will travel still.

It's too bad they never use the old Eagles Auditorium (now called something like the American Contemporary Theater) for concerts anymore.  The GD recorded parts of Anthem Of The Sun there.  It would be a trip to see Phil back in that space.  The Showbox will have to do.

Nice to hear that PDX has some interest in Phil & Family Band.

Went to TFB at Asbury Park last time around and they didn't attract much of a crowd.  It was fun and all,  but not inspirational or exciting.

Get to see WEEN in a couple weeks at the reconditioned Opera house in Phila.  Then Billy Strings will visit the Coast 12/19 at "The Saint".  Sixteen bucks and the venue is a tiny rectangle.

Those shows hold more novelty and Value (thrills per $) compared to TFB in my personal un-esteemed opinion.

If I could bring Hüsky that would be Awesome.  But he prefers outdoor shows or at least a flexible re-entry venue (so he can go out for a pee).

Timmy,

Jealousy, is the sincerest form of flattery.

>>>>>>>Jealousy, is the sincerest form of flattery

Are you suggesting I should be flattered?

Also, what do superfluous commas indicate?

Got tickets for Sunday the Masonic lodge. Hard to pass up seeing Phil in a tiny venue, even if the lineup isn't my favorite...

Got tix for both nights at the Roseland.  My contribution to the Phil Lesh Terrapin Family Band drug fund.

Got tix for both nights, so did my friends who were trying. Maybe it isn't a tough ticket after all. Or perhaps it just helped to be ready right at 10:00 AM

Also, what do superfluous commas indicate?

British roots?

They, are very, enamored of them.

Also got Portland tickets and I see they're still available.  Not the immediate sell-out.

Maybe they deliberately limited the number of pre-sale to create an artificial sense of scarcity and cause panic buying?   Glad everyone who wants to go is getting in.

Tickets still available for the Showbox as well. Seattleites have always been slow on the draw when it comes to advance purchasing. I guess no one's in a hurry to see this current lineup, either.
