So cool, thanks for the links.

Where's Bernie ? Wasn't he in this pic?

Wow. I know two people in that photo. One time one of them yelled at me, and I yelled back.

But we're cool now.

(That's a good story. I should have told that one in the GD stories thread that was going a while back. I may have won)

Here's a cool photo from that Warfield show. I'm visible in it, clapping in the front row of the balcony (zoner Emily is also visible, on the floor holding up a Deadheads For Obama sign).

It was a good show.

It brought people together. It reignited some things. It was the first time in a long time that Phil & Bob (and Mickey) had played together.

It was a fun night.

Listening to this show I'm reminded how good it was.

It gets lost in the mist of so many shows, but it holds up well (Phil sounds great!) and was damn good to be at.

It's definitely worth a listen.

Here are a few more shots from that night 13 years ago...

Had she not bedded the bass player of the Grateful Dead, Jill would have made a fine politician. Perhaps in the same vein as Pelosi. Dagger eyes and a black mamba constitution.

Poor form by Justin in the wardrobe department. Invited to the Oval Office and he looks he's showing up for work at a Metro PCS store.

"Here's a clip of the Dead rehearsing on Oct. 13, 2008 just prior to their Change Rocks concert and benefit for Barack Obama."

More like Sarah Palin......

This was such a special show.  Got turned on to the ticket drop from a poster on the Zone (his name was PaperPoster as I recall), and picked up the Max 2 tickets the second they went on sale. Due to the ticket drop details, and the lack of many "miracles", it was a more buttoned-up crowd than the usual Warfield show, but because this was one of the first "reunion" shows following the debacle of Dead '04, those who were there KNEW it was special. The taped Obama introduction filmed from his plane was a little weak, it's clear that somebody on Obama's staff knew the Dead but he could give two shits.  Everybody cheered and jeered when Obama said "So 'sit down', and enjoy the show"...

Musically this was more of an '08 Phil and Friends show than a "Dead Show", due to the Molitz/Molo presence, and Shecky (whom I never really had a problem with, YMMV).  First set was as good as one could expect, although the crowd totally flubbed and started the "Come Together" chorus way too early, which was wierd... But it was good.  Playin' had good playin'...

I thought set break would be ~45 minutes, per TD '04 practice, but after about 15 minutes, when I was in the beer line, they started an ACOUSTIC SET.  At the WARFIELD.  It was really special. I made it by the end of Deep Elem and creamed my pants for the next 15 minutes.

I loved set II, except Iko seemed a little too much of a good thing after Phil (and Molitz and Shecky) did it for 15-20 minutes just a week or two prior because it was the soundtrack song to the mardi gras parade at Bill Graham Civic... But that's a personal issue.  Also, I'm not a fan of US Blues, but it was apropos for the occasion, whatchya gonna do?

Anyway, the show, with Phil's musical direction, was tight and fine...  This reunion started the good vibes that brought on The Dead '09, which I thought, warts and all, was 10x better than TD '04, and one of the better Core 4 outings...

It was totally a special thing to be there.  And we all wanted Obama to be president.  And then he was.  And no matter what you think of the Obama years, well, we now know it could have been worse...

Long Live The Greatful Dead!
