New thread. The first one went off the rails.

10.25 DC Anthem
10.26 Asbury Pk Convention Hall
10.27 Camden BB&T

10.31 Cap

TFB w Nikki Bluhm & Robert Randolph

ok we'll try again

.

I heart Phil

me too

I really wish Phil would play Long Island one more time "before he closes down the pop shop."

It's going to take a better lineup than that to get me to spend the money it takes to go to the Capital.

mid week one off and that lineup is meh, not sure on this one, gonna be a game time decision I think, even though I love Nikki Bluhm she was a bit underwhelming the last time she played with Phil

.wp-image-1434837875_0.jpg

I'm looking forward to Asbury & Camden. Def. plan to skip the cap.

Obviously the lineup doesn't thrill everyone but I haven't seen the family band live yet & Asbury is right in my backyard. I pretty much have a standing ride to Camden too, so that helps with the decision.

Wondering about weekend shows in the middle of the run. Seems strange to not play Saturday and/or Sunday with shows on Wed/Thu/Fri and the following Tue. Maybe jaunt up to Boston, or possibly stealth show(s) in the city?

Thanks Phil.  The Anthem is at the old wharf fish market which was the best of the best in dc, now gentrified, we will have to see how it turns out.

Never thought we would ever get a local show again.

Nicki is the deciding factor for us, makes it an easier decision.

YES !

Big thanks Judit for starting the new thread.

Was disappointed with the online battle last night.

10/31 is with Rob B. instead of Crosby.

Nice re headband! That definitely brings the band up a notch and adds a strong vocalist.

Don't know where you got that info about Rob. The Capitol email specifically says Crosby.

I agree about a better lineup to keep hiking up to the Cap. But I Asbury is right next door so I'll most likely hit that show.

The lemmings will surely flock to this schlock........

I won't even drag myself up to Camden.  I refuse to pay money to see Ross James play guitar.

"...I won't even drag myself up to Camden..."

I would kick in ten Bucks and loan you a nice slinky,  red-sequined cocktail dress if you post the drag photo in Camden wink

(Just kidding;  I don't want to go to Camden either.)

Crosby says himself online that he can't play the 10/31 show because that's when he starts a tour with John McLaughlin and Jimmy Herring that he's had booked for some time. So it is definitely not Jason on that Cap gig. DSO is off the week of Halloween and Barraco is doing that gig. Crosby is playing the DC and Jersey gigs, but not Philoween.

citi presale now for convention hall for those so inclined

 >>>>> I refuse to pay money to see Ross James play guitar.

Actually, his guitar playing has improved a tad; it's his "singing" I can't stand.

>> The lemmings will surely flock to this schlock........

Can't be picky at this point. I know there are birthday rumors but I still feel like every Phil show at the Cap might be the last, or the last I'm able to go to at least.

I feel that if Graham could hold his guitar just a little lower, things would work out better.

>>>Can't be picky at this point<<<

Yes, you can.  In all honesty, Phil is a shell of his former self; playing substandard music for way over the top $.  It's embarrassing.  Both he and Bobby should retire with dignity.  I get more satisfaction from a couple of local gd cover bands at this point than the old men.

You can quibble about line-ups or prices or venues, but the old man can still play that bass guitar like nobody else.

Perhaps but $100 to see Phil with the Family Band is outrageous in my opinion.

When was the last chest thumping bass bomb you heard from Phil?  What happened to the thundering intro into the other one?

bar band for $100. insane.

I think that I paid $35 twice to see Phil and the Family Band on a boat that cruised the Hudson.  It was fun, but I wouldn't pay more than that.  In fact I don't know that i would pay anymore than $25.

Sounds like Thom will never see Phil again.

>>>  I get more satisfaction from a couple of local gd cover bands at this point than the old men.

Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man

Thom will see Phil again when he brings a band worth seeing.  I understand that he wants to play with is kid as much as possible before he stops playing, but I'm, too old and have spent too much time (and money) doing this already (and seeing amazing shows) to put the effort into seeing him play with B listers.   If I've seen my last Phil show I can die satisfied, at this point it's pretty much all a pale shade of what it used to be.

And the Camden venue is a dump.

"When was the last chest thumping bass bomb you heard from Phil?"

Geaorge Mason University December '05, Big Brown on Caution.  Literally knocked the breath out of me at one point.

One more thought...

IMO, every show we've seen with Phil since 1995 has been a gift.  I remember thinking that I'd never be able to visit "that place" again, and the thrill I felt the first time I was able to get back there (Nissan 1998).  At this point in my life I feel like my cup runneth over, that I've been blessed with uncountable moments of joy over the past 19 years that I never expected to happen, and that rather than feeling the need to constantly want "more" I can simply feel gratitude for the amazing experiences that the man has already given me.  A lot of this has to do with where I'm at on a personal level and some changes that I've been going through. But it also has to do with a sense that, as I get older, I have a desire to simply appreciate what I've been given in life already.

I hope that I see Phil again.  Bu at this point it has to be under the right circumstances or it just isn't worth it.  And the Family Band in Camden isn't the right circumstances.

Good Morning!  Does anyone have Presale info for this show?  Thanks!

Believe it or not, I agree with Thom.

Although I will see TFB if that's what there is, but the trip down has to be worth the 600 mile drive - special guests. 2 shows, or whatever.

2 hrs to Asbury Park, 1 hr to Camden....see ya there!

If they were only playing the Cap I'd pass

Again, these could be the last "local" shows Phil plays.

Asbury park prices = $106 GA floor w/fees and $83.75 bleacher seat w/fees.  Like PT Barnum said, there's a sucker born every minute.

What a joke and what a ripoff.  I can see Phish for 65.00 still!  The Terrapin Family Band is beyond horrible, I was embarrassed just watching them at Lock'n.  They need to create a small side stage for the TFB at Lockn so they can play at 10 am if invited back.

Cap prices as follows:

Balcony Right / Left - $59.50 + fees (approx $77)

Balcony Right Center / Center / Left Center - $99.50 + fees (approx $115)

GA floor - $99.50 + fees (approx $115)

Loge front row - $179.50 + fees

Loge row B & C - $159.50 + fees

UNFUCKINGBELIEVABLE

>>>>>>Nicki is the deciding factor for us, makes it an easier decision.

Never really viewed her as an X factor but to each their own.

We'll see if they give her more than three or four songs, she was good at the cap just wish they would have let her do more.

Camden is a bargain......100 sections $103.95 with fees and 200 sections $81.75 with fees.

You've really got to want to see Phil to pay those prices for this band.

Phil's gotta invite Nicole Atkins as a friend someday. Loved her voice on Lockn Couch Tour.

^^^Keep dreaming.

wow, $200 to see tfb? that's crazy.

I've gotten comfortable with the AP venue this Summer, catching some of the free Thursday shows on the Beach (or indoors w/ inclement weather).

So tonight is the last one and it's a Talking Heads cover band.  I'll see if the box office is open, maybe I can get one without fees.

Or,  I can install a high-tech rappelling wire from the second story down to the Beach,  and scale the wall in late October.  My awesome Ninja skillz will save many $$ on inflatred ticket prices devilkiss

(Reminder to self:  don't forget Tungsten-Carbide Ninja wire & Laser drill)

>>>Phil's gotta invite Nicole Atkins as a friend someday. Loved her voice on Lockn Couch Tour.

Good call,

Well, that went fast. Guess some people do want to see the Family Band.

No surprise that a one night stand on Halloween in the NYC area would go fast.

Crosby says himself online that he can't play the 10/31 show because that's when he starts a tour with John McLaughlin and Jimmy Herring that he's had booked for some time. So it is definitely not Jason on that Cap gig.

Ugh. I have nothing against Crosby, other than I can't seem to see any bay area show without him on keys these days. I was not expecting him to be at the Herring McLaughlin deal at all, was hoping for some interesting additions to the lineup and IMO Crosby isn't very interesting. He's not bad or anything, but still...I want something different and new with my McLaughlin, not TXR all-stars and John McLaughlin. Oh well. I'm sure it will still be good.

Ross James can Shatnerize a song like nobody's business.  He's got Bobby beat by a mile.

Another Halloween show with Phil!! So pumped. Hard to beat the celebratory feel of a special / holiday type of show!
Phil 'er up!!!!

I'd like to see a link to where Jason Crosby says online he's booked Oct.31. The McLaughlin Herring tour starts Nov.1 in Albany. I can't see how that would prevent Crosby from making the Halloween gig?

Rehearsal?

Jason Crosby on FB

Thanks very much to you kind folks who provided links about Jason Crosby's online announcement about his attendance at the Phil shows. I guess Oct.31 is a rehersal day, since the Mclaughlin Herring tour is not booked to start until Nov.1. It would be nice to have Baracco on hand for the Halloween gig.

I certainly didn't mean to slight the ultra-multi-talented Mr.Crosby in the post above. I really like hime a lot, and very much enjoy his taste and energy with The Family Band. I'm also looking forward to seeing him with Herring on tour. I just meant to say that Rob will be a nice change up since Jason's not available, and will be a worthy sub.

I am def not a big fan of this band or Bluhm chic, but I do LOVE Phil and since he is playing in my backyard ( it's not really a dump ;) )...i will go l! Ya see , I adore Phil and any chance to see him nearby is a gift to me. My traveling days are getting fewer and fewer ( the MS is flaring more and more:( ), and I have this incredible gratitude in my <3 for what he as a musician has brought to me in the past. It brings a big smile to watch him play and when he smiles, my heart :)'s too !!

So I will go and dance and enjoy him in any line up ( except that horrid Dead and Co...shudder), the future is not promised and the day he is no longer here...,will be a very solemn day for me :(

And Super yeah for NOT having to drive to the Cap and deal with the traffic hassle !1077297.jpg

Camden really is pretty much of dump Lyn, especially when compared to the Mann right across the river. Personally, I'd rather do the drive to Port Chester and be in a nice venue.

Well, I worked in Camden for years ( Cooper) and yeah it is a bad area for sure, I used to volunteer and take women in recovery  to meetings there ( Frank's Place ) ...:)  Given the fact that I probably am 20 mins away down 42 , it makes for a local show for me and the venue isn't all that bad, I have been to worse !!!     I  call bullshit that you would rather travel tp the Cap  than go local...just for venue,  not even economical !!

But to each his own, it's your $$ .

Ohhh shoot... i forgot that you aren't even going... ;)

Philoween at the Capital is sold out.

I'm with ya Cumberlyn!!  An opportunity to see Phil with friends & fam and gig down to the music we love played by one of our heroes is not to be missed, imo. Phil is 77 and ain't gonna be here forever so like Mad River Glen says.... ski it if you can!  $100 for a night full of what Phil shows offer is a small price to pay in the big picture... Especially on a fun night like Philoween!

See you phaithful deadicated pholks there!!

Lineup updates --

http://www.jambands.com/news/2017/09/19/preservation-hall-jazz-band-join...

Preservation Hall Jazz Band at all shows on the run except Brooklyn Bowl, Barraco officially in for the Cap as well, which Crosby had confirmed on Facebook but hadn't made Relix/Jambands yet as far as I was aware.

That's strange. California Kind says Rob Barraco will be in Oregon on Halloween.

http://www.nelsonband.com/?page_id=3165

I noticed that too, Zooey.

Which one is correct? The California Kind info was only recently posted.

Wondering if I can fit in any of the Oregon shows.

Nice to meet you at Sound Summit, btw!

For those in the NYC area during Philoween, consider going to this new GD musical!

http://www.jambands.com/news/2017/09/07/new-musical-to-feature-music-from-jerry-garcia-other-grateful-dead-members

Wonder who will be there on opening night?

>> That's strange. California Kind says Rob Barraco will be in Oregon on Halloween.

That is odd. Maybe Mookie will sub in for him?

Think that I've located a Dog-sitter for AP show. She is right near the venue!  Ideally,  I could take the hound there,  attend the show and then retrieve H.I.M. after to play on the Beach.

See how the weather looks in six weeks.

Bump

Hey Now!

I have 2 Philoween tix for sale.  Had an accident yesterday and can't go.
Balcony Center, Row E, seats 107 & 108.

Please PM me if interested.
Hope it's ok to put this in this forum

Thanks!

Sorry about your accident, hope you'll soon be able to participate fully in life.

You might also put the tickets up in the Ticket folder for additional visibilty.

A few people I know went to that musical in NY and said it wasn't that good at all. They said the sets were cool but overall, they rated it a 3. Maybe in time it will get better?

Saw the Family Band Thursday and Friday. Thursday's show was meh, the sound in Convention Hall wasn't that good at all, but Friday, I thought was fantastic! That New Speedway was just fantastic and the UBC was the highlight. The intricate guitar work at the end was so sweet. I underestimated that band for sure. HAd a great time. Looking forward to Philoween!

Thanks Judit!  Yep, I put it in the Ticket folder as well.

I'm so bummed.  Ugh!
