Phish, for academics!!!

Forums:

Looks like my alma mater is hosting it's second Phish conference...  may have to learn a few Phish tunes and put in a proposal to play, lol

<<Oregon State University is honored to host the second Phish Studies conference in Corvallis, Oregon on May 17-19, 2024. The conference will feature research presentations and community events about the improvisational rock band Phish, as well as its fans and culture. Like the inaugural conference in 2019, this gathering will represent diverse disciplinary approaches, featuring scholars from across the country.

The 2024 conference will showcase a number of special events including: community panels, an exhibition fair, a poster session, a Phishsonian pop-up museum exhibit, a pre-conference workshop for Phans for Racial Equity and GrooveSafe, and curated art exhibits. Over three days in 2019, nearly 200 fans and scholars attended the conference and more than 50 scholars presented. Our planning for 2024 includes a larger venue that will enable the participation of more fans and scholars in the event.>>

I noticed that too, Noodler. Thanks for posting.  I encouraged a Phish fan friend to submit a proposal....they recently went to 199th Phish show at MSG, only to miss the Gamehenge show in favor of Disco Biscuits NYE with old school friends, LOL.

I bet there are Zoners who have been to more shows than that and could come up with a cool proposal!  Close to the Oregon coast, too!

My first Phish show was in 92, so thought about putting in a proposal for our band to play...  I remember how to play one Phish tune, could learn a few more.  Perhaps play some of my new originals, and relate it to Phish.  We're doing a band "bonding" trip to the coast next weekend, so we can talk about it.  I'm curious to see if the snowmaggedon forecasts materialize!  It's the Yachats Agate Festival on Saturday and Sunday!  Should you go, should drop by for a visit and say Hi, be good to see you again!

A school of Phish

Good conference proposal, Noodler!

I would be interested in the agate fest for sure but i'll have to visit another time (King tide time?) as I have a Phil ticket next weekend and hope the weather aligns with my drive.

Have Phun at Phil...   i'll be forced to enjoy the Pacific while jamming out on Dead tunes, lol (when not in the hot tub anyway).  And be safe driving, the models are all over the place, with a 50 degree discrepancy on both the high and low temperatures between them!!!  If the cold one prevails, those passes could get nasty, so be safe!  (should be a blast, whoever is in the band)

beautiful !

yep i've definitely been studying the weather, but thanks... would love to take 58 east but there are already reports of black ice.. I use that TripCheck app with all the road cameras.

if it all goes well i'll leave Thursday PM and stop near Weed, CA for the night... Thursday seems to be in-between storms and slightly warmer.

...may have to learn a few fish tunes..

Back On The Train and Possum, please :)

Possum's the tune i've played for eons, lol...   Back on the Train has a great groove!  (Run Like an Antelope is a tune i'd love to learn, use to play Can I live While I'm Young)

^Lol.....awesome!  And, yes. BOTT has a fantatic groove!  Not sure which songs exactly, but Trey nails that 70s funk sound so well, too, imo. Sounds like a fun project!

cool

I always find it funny / interesting when someone pops into a GD (or Phish) message board and claims to be doing some sort of academic "thesis" about this or that aspect of the music or scene.    It's like a kissing cousin of a porn flick that has a "plot" involving a scientific experiment or some other educational purpose.
