Phish New Years Run

Forums:

Lucked out and got tickets for New Years Eve on the lottery but ended up not going because couldn't leave our newer and very energetic dog.   But we did watch last night show, and it was rough.  Trey's voice was cracking and sounded like he had a cold.  Over all a low energy show that seemed a bit off all night.   Hope Trey gets some rest as he has three more nights to go.

Maybe a good excuse for the band to cut back on playing Trey's litany of awful songs. Hand the reigns to Mike.

I thought the show was amazing. Musical brilliance and rejoicing was rampant!

I watched 2nd set from Tomorrow's Verse taproom in Portland and all had a good time... but I too focused on more on Mike more than Trey.

I thought Mike was playing some excellent modal choices on the first set opener, some really original weaving around the melody

Good show last night. They are getting warmed.

Just returned from watching Phish stream at Tomorrow's Verse in Porrtland. Fun scene there and it's easy to run into long lost music friends.

I've been loving Mike's playing so far.

Missed last night's show.

Phish NYE gag description from PT:

set two its ice into cream (prince) and cold as ice on house music and hood opener set 3 with dancers in milk cartons and a massive milk carton from above with spock on it and "missing: spocks brain" text poured white silks onto stage and dancers shed cartons to dance in all white they're all milk now and also ice cream men in white coveralls danced around a massive ice cream cooler at front of stage and pulled huge ice cream cones out of it during 2001 and the milk dancers disappeared by entering the cooler before the presentation of the ice cream cones and then a rocket pop emerged from cooler about halfway and trey took over on drums seamlessly and fishman approached cooler, donned a donut helmet, and went down into the cooler, shortly after the rocket pop shot from stage to ceiling with pyrotechnics with fishman dummy affixed to one side, fishman returns to stage with donut cowboy hat on and they tweezer commences and suddenly a plethora of new dancers emerge, a mariachi band, german milk maids, and dancers from past gags, petrichor umbrella man, sloth, hot dog costume, lizards, a mime, and more and they all danced for a time to a peppy tweezer but when they all cleared the stage, tweezer and piper jams both got there and delivered"

Foam ice cream cones fell during show.
Ice cream and spoons given out at end of show.

That Harry Hood freezer extravaganza was epic!

Fun for sure.  Face melting rock?  not so sure.

Sounded good last night.  But dancing milk cartons?  Really.

Phish had dancing milkmen and WSP had Billy Strings.  Advantage: WSP

I fully support the Prince cover last night.

That was fun. My first New Years with Phish. IMG_4993.jpg

Enjoyed the stream and a fine prime rib dinner with some friends on their new 64" flat screen.  I liked the part where Cowbell guy walked  throughout the venue tailed by the MSG goombahs.  They all sounded great, although Mike looked under the weather.

More brilliance, fun and blazing music from a foursome like no other that has ever existed!! These guys are so far beyond anything else happening in the rock n' roll world it's almost ridiculous!!  4 virtuoso's with limitless musical boundaries, who are musically fearless with unbelievable genius sense of humor and can take a huge room from hearing a pin drop to complete maniacale fan mayhem in a few measures of music. This band is so much fucking fun to see it's just nuts!!  The amount of listening to each other as they're playing is what puts them on the absolute top tier of all time!!!  Happy Gnu Year!!

Trey's voice was definitely less than perfect for the run, but his playing was top notch as always.

As an old school Zoner said upon seeing the milk cartons coming out, "Oh, you're part of Alvin Ailey?!?  That's great!  Here, put this on..."   LOL

Cold, cold, cold!

Anyone going to Riviera Maya?
