Phish NYE MSG Run

Forums:

In New York and will be seeing Phish tomorrow night and Friday at Madison Square Garden.  Never been to MSG before.

Didn't get tickets for tonight and got shut out for NYE.   Going to the Eggy after party at the Cutting Room tonight (hear good things about them) and going to play it by ear on NYE.  No shortage of things to do on News Year eve in New York City..

Any of you other freeks going?

DSO at the cap

I'm going to msg tonight and tomorrow.

how was Eggy?

I saw they got free tickets to Phish and stayed for the first set

wonder if it influenced their set

Eggy was underwhelming considering the hype. Sound like Goose or Spafford. Solid band but nothing Earth shattering. Did a good Benny and the Jets.

Two for nye...

Is it true they dress in diapers & drink out of sippy cups on stage?

They were REALLY good last night, best Phish I've seen in years. Go see them if you can.

Who?

Trailhead:. We are up in the 300 level skybridge way up in the high back right above Mike.  Amazing seats on barstools and all the room in the world. Let me know if you can come on up and I will buy you a beer from the stand that is literally 15 feet behind me with no line.

Aw shucks just seeing this. Maybe meet up tomorrow. What a fantastic show !

That Trey vibrato?  yikes

I get that for open pit scenarios at summer sheds but wouldn't some rich NY folks have those seats as part of their client engagement investment subscriptions? .

Nice to meet you and your  friends Ken.  Hope all the shows were a blast.

PHISH, SATURDAY 12/31/2022

MADISON SQUARE GARDEN

New York, NY

SET 1: Tweezer, Halley's Comet -> Set Your Soul Free > Rift, Cavern > Tweezer > Shade, Mike's Song > I Am Hydrogen > Weekapaug Groove

SET 2: Say It To Me S.A.N.T.O.S. > Also Sprach Zarathustra > Kill Devil Falls, Mercury > Light -> Waste, Drift While You're Sleeping, Backwards Down the Number Line

SET 3: Ghost > Bohemian Rhapsody > Ghost -> Jungle Boogie > Wilson > Auld Lang Syne > Carini > Theme from New York, New York > Tweezer > Prince Caspian > Crosseyed and Painless > Piper, A Life Beyond The Dream, First Tube

ENCORE: Show of Life > Tweezer Reprise

Trey teased Super Bad in Weekapaug. The second setbreak music was comprised of songs referencing past Phish New Year's Eve gags. Before the third set began, a barbershop quartet appeared with a singing telegram for Phish. The telegram said that at the stroke of midnight it would be 40 years for Phish and to make a wish. Trey wished he had a time machine so he could do it all again. A cube descended from overhead and a time machine was revealed near Mike. The quartet activated the time machine and the cube played audio and video from past years of Phish. Dancers from various past new year's gags appeared on stage as well as the little squirrel from Bivouac Jaun. The squirrel broke the time machine and Ghost began with dancers and characters (like Father Time from December 31, 1999 and the Famous Mockingbird from December 31, 1992) continuing to appear from the band's past performances. Ghost featured Meatstick lyrics sung from the band as well as by dancers in different languages in a nod to December 31, 2010. The first Bohemian Rhapsody since December 31, 1996 (850 shows) featured a choir singing on risers behind the band and Ghost quotes from Page and the choir with subsequent lyrics changed to reference Ghost. The first Jungle Boogie since December 31, 2003 (543 shows) featured a marching band along with the choir. The marching band and choir were also featured in Wilson where a platform above Trey that had appeared for the entire New Year's run descended and the clone that had been lying on the platform rose and was revealed to be a Tom Hanks actor from Castaway. Inflated Wilson volleyballs were then tossed into the crowd. During Auld Lang Syne, Phish briefly stopped playing and ate cake in front of the stage while the marching band and choir continued to perform. Carini featured several dancers in "naked dude" costumes emerging from a birthday cake in front of the stage and dancing and running around with security trying to catch them. The Theme from New York, New York was performed for the first time since December 31, 1997 (771 shows) and featured the naked dude dancers performing a kickline in front of the stage while adding vocals and Trey changing the lyrics to "if I could be naked there." Piper contained Crosseyed quotes. During Tweezer Reprise, the squirrel ran and danced across the stage.

Every show of this run was killer. I was at the 28th and 29th. Both great but the 28th was absolutely blazing start to finish. The boys came out locked in with each other and never let up. We had a private Suite the first night, needless to say it was a ridiculous throwdownof gigfest! I haven't missed a phish run at MSG since they came back in 2009. There's nothing like going to see these guys at MSG and hanging nyc! Similar to what it was like seeing the Dead there! These guys are so on top of their game and they're enjoying themselves so much it's palpable. Listen to the ending of Possum to hear and see how much fun they have spontaneously and just don't take themselves too seriously!

Just got back to town late last night and am tired, sore, and dragging, but what a fun time!

loved it !
