So for ages, I had dial-up internet here at the shack. Dreadfully slow, although I could upload images to PZ (usually) and view images posted there (go make a coffee & snack while the pixels squeeze through the phone wire).
I cut that landline a while back; there is no cable or fiber-optic or WI-FI.
Now I get by with a 'tethering' app called PDAnet. You install that on your iPhone or Android device, and the other half on PC or Mac. There's a free trial version throttled at one GB data transfer before you must restart. The paid version is 8 bucks. Not a bad deal.
It's been around for several years, but new to me. It actually works faster than dial-up (surprise !!) but is still pretty slow, as I'm in a dead zone for cel tower reception. However, it is yet another option if I want to get on the interweb with a large screen instead of the tiny fone screen.
Anyone reading this already has 'real' ISP connection, however it's a nice tool if traveling or away from any alternate connection.

MC / HNY to ya both.
MC / HNY to ya both.
I'm just stoked to have internet at home in some capacity. It seems like you can get by without it, until you need to find a Diamond wheel, get directions to Englewood Cliffs, or look up various Bacon-Wrapped Water Chestnut recipes.
I actually viewed some streaming video of Phil at the Cap someone posted a few weeks back. One of the Halloween run. I was all liek "Wow, modern people can do this all the time !!"
So I really don't miss the landline. Verizon kept raising the price for their antiquated copper twisted pair tech. The only way I could have justified keeping it would have been utilizing the electrical current for some low-voltage application (probably frowned upon).
